Search node value in XML

Hi All,
One of our requirement is that we get an XML file from Server, which will be placed in a local machine (d:\ drive)
We need to provide a html form,a text box and a search button. User may enter the search text as Ja%. we need to implement the functionality of SQL like operator.
We have used Activex object for reading and writing XML files. I tried to implement search functionality using XSLT contains() method, but its not working in IE and more over not knowing how to pass a value to XSL from html form. I even tried with JQuery, not able to read XML file in IE.
Please suggest any technology/solution, where I can implement this functionality. Unfortunately I can not use Java. Its purely client side - on the browser.
Please help.
Thanks | Kranthi

Please suggest any technology/solution, where I can implement this functionality. Unfortunately I can not use Java.Then why are you asking the question in a forum named "Java Technology & XML"?

We have used Activex object for reading and writing XML files. I tried to implement search functionality using XSLT contains() method, Start by learning the tools that you have available. To start with, unsigned code within a browser is not going to be able to access the filesystem. So you probably have to load the XML into the page somehow, perhaps using AJAX, perhaps using a Java Applet, perhaps using an ActiveX control.
Then: XSL (XPath, actually) doesn't use the same wildcarding as SQL. So you're never going to be able to find the text if you use %.

  • Delete parent node based on its child node value in XML

    I have an xml like this:

    Add a predicate in the XPath expression :
    UPDATE request_xml
    SET request = deleteXML(request, '/UPLOAD_REQUEST/CUSTOMER_DETAIL[NAME="Nikita"]')
    ;

  • Get node value from xml?

             listNodes(nodes.item(k));
       }Hope this helped,

  • BPEL assign count and node value from xml

    I have mapnames.xml in the project with nodes like this:
    <mapname>STATUS_DIMS_LOAD</mapname>
    <mapname>MOVEMENT_DIMS_LOAD</mapname>
    The xml of mapnames will be used for an input variable for a FlowN invoke.
    Trying to count the number of mapnames in the xml document and put in a variable.
    <assign name="getMapNamesN">
    <copy>
    <from expression= *"count(bpws:getVariableData('... ? " />*
    <to variable="FlowN_Dims_Count"/>
    </copy>
    </assign>
    Then use that in the FlowN
    <bpelx:flowN name="FlowN_Dims" N="bpws:getVariableData('Flow_Dims_Count')" indexVariable="Index">
    And then inside the FlowN, get the actual mapname using the index.
    <assign name="Assign_Dims">
    <copy>
    <from expression= *"bpws:getVariableData('... ? [',bwps:getVariableData('Index'),']') " />*
    <to variable="Invoke_Dims_InputVariable" part="InputParameters"
    query="/ns8:InputParameters/ns8:P_MAPNAME" />
    </copy>
    </assign>
    What is the syntax to
    1. Count the number of mapnames in the xml document?
    2. Use the FlowN index to assign the mapname to an input variable?

    That looked hopeful, but it did not show how to create the variables and I do not know the syntax for making an array variable.

  • Problem replacing Null nodes with real values in XML documents...

    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
    Our friends in Java land are insisting on passing data between Java and PL/SQL using fairly small XML documents (don't ask). I then need to extract the input parameter values and pass them, on to the stored procedures that actually do the work. These return a result which needs to be returned to the java layer in the output XML document.
    Here is a cut down version of the input XML...
    <ParameterList xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
    <Parameter>
    <Id>1</Id>
    <Result xsi:nil="true"/>
    </Parameter>
    <Parameter>
    <Id>2</Id>
    <Result xsi:nil="true"/>
    </Parameter>
    </ParameterList>
    and this is an example of what I am expected to return...
    <ParameterList xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
    <Parameter>
    <Id>1</Id>
    *<Result>SUCCESS</Result>*
    </Parameter>
    <Parameter>
    <Id>2</Id>
    *<Result>WARNING</Result>*
    </Parameter>
    </ParameterList>
    i.e. I am expected to replace the value of the Result node with a string indicating the succes or otherwise of the underlying PL/SQL process.
    I am extracting the input values using the DBMS_XMLDOM functions and naively assumed that DBMS_XMLDOM.SETNODEVALUE could be used to update the value in the Result node - It didn't work so I resorted to reading the documentation which revealed that it will not work for a null node.
    Am I going to have to use XSLT to generate the output XML from the Input and incorprate the result? Or is there a simpler way?
    I have used XSLT in Oracle before and still have the nervous tick...

    Hi,
    I've got some xml:

        <imageID>second child node value</imageID>

    var imageID = new Image;
    var labelID = new Label;
    getNodeValue(buttonID); //the value here is set dynamically

    trace (xmlData.nodeName)                      //doesn't work
    var str:String = "xmlData." + nodeName;
    var xml:XMLList = str as XMLList             //doesn't work
    I'm don't know how to get the value when node name is dynamically changed.

    use:
    getNodeValue(buttonID); //the value here is set dynamically
    private function getNodeValue (nodeName:String):void {
    trace (xmlData[nodeName])

  • Read a XML node value/attribute value from a CLOB

    Hello,
    I can write SQL/ - PL/SQL "straightforward" but now I have a problem what is to big for me.  I hop that someone can help.
    We create by code a xml structure and write these into the oracle database CLOB field. I'm sorry to say that a xml text structure is written into a clob in stead of a xmltype field. (it's a design failure?) It's a large xml structure. I believe I can't attach a file so I put at the end of this discussion a light example of the xml structure.
    It's a xml with quartervalue's, so there are 35040 detail rows (24h * 4 * 365days). I want to accumulate the the attribute Amount value 9. The amount value is in the Detail node a attribute but at the end you can see that for the DST are also 4 value's, but these are not attribute value's but node value's. (In this case it are four value's in some cases there is one DST amount value.
    Can somebody help me how to accumulate all the detail attribute value Amount with the node value Amount of the DST tag?

    From what I know, extracting the "Amount" values in the Details section and the "Amount" values in the DSTS section would be two different SELECT statements.
    Both of these will use XMLTable() to extract the values.
    BTW - If you need more information on this, post up in the XML/XML DB forum section for more complex help.  (eg getting YEAR with the DSTS Amount values)
    as far as XML size goes, I've seen oracle handle a 100MB XML document without problems.
    (just understand, it will be 'slow')
    This one will give you the Amount values from the DSTS section:

  • Getting Node Value of an XML element in JAVA.

    Hi,
    In my application, I have got the exact node that I want by parsing the document, but the node value returned is null as the node is an element and the Java Documentation does specify that it will return null. I would like to know if there in any alternative way by which I can parse the document and get the specified value of the node or element. Kindly help.

    Hi,
    i am using the dom parser. My code is as follows.
    Document xmlDocument, outputDoc;
                   DocumentBuilderFactory dbfObject = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
                   DocumentBuilder dbObject = dbfObject.newDocumentBuilder();
                   xmlDocument =  dbObject.parse("IPD_Response.xml");
                   Element dd = xmlDocument.getDocumentElement();
                   NodeList ItemAttributes = dd.getElementsByTagName("Element Name");
                   System.out.println("element" + ItemAttributes.item(0));
                   Node ss = ItemAttributes.item(0);
                   NodeList bb = ss.getChildNodes();
                   Node cc = ss.getFirstChild();
                   System.out.println("element sibling1 "+bb.item(0));
                   System.out.println("element sibling 2"+bb.item(1));
                   System.out.println("element sibling 3"+bb.item(2));
                   System.out.println("element child "+cc);
                   Node aa = bb.item(0);
                   NodeList qqq = aa.getChildNodes();
                   System.out.println("element sibling1---1 "+qqq.item(0));
                   System.out.println("element sibling1---1 "+qqq.item(1));
                   Node fff = qqq.item(0);
                   Node aaa = qqq.item(1);
                   String value1 = fff.getNodeValue();
                   String value2 = aaa.getNodeValue();
                   System.out.println("1st value "+value1+" 2nd value "+value2);What my code does is gets all the elements within a particular tag. After that i look for the child nodes, which i have done successfully. But when i get the value using getNodeValue(); method it will be null as per the Java Docs. Is there any other way by which i can get the node value. Kindly help.
    How do you parse the XML Document ?
    Are you using a DOM Document ?
    Which parser do you use ?
    How do you access the Element ?

    Well, there are not many mind readers on this forum.
    You do not tell us how you are parsing the document, and so it is difficult determining why the node value is returned as a null.
    There are two main styles of processing XML -- DOM and SAX. Dom (and its variants JDom and I think Dom4J) build a tree structure that is memory-resident. There are ways to walk up and down the tree, and locate arbitrary nodes in the tree.
    The other style is SAX, which is much less intensive from a memroy perspective, but puts more work on you to keep what you want as the data goes flying by.
    So, how are you "parsing the document" and what method is returning a null? That may give someone enough information to guess at your problem.

  • Accessing XML node value

    Hi,
    Is there any method to get node value other than getTextContent() in org.w3c.dom.Node?
    Here is my XML
    <data>value<data>
    Hoe can i get "value" using java?
    Thanks
    Shagil

    The text "value" is a child node of element node "data". So, by following the tree structure of DOM, you'll get this text by asking for the node value of the (first) child node of the element.
    Node data = ...;
    if (data.hasChildNodes()) {
      String text = data.getFirstChild().getNodeValue();
      // use text
    }
