Search Option No Longer Working

We discovered today that the Search function is not working
for a compiled Help build. The Search feature worked on builds done
in the past (I tested this with a completed CHM Build done 6/2007),
but no longer is functioning on builds completed today. Any search
returns a "No topics found" result.
I see that others have experienced this same issue recently.
We have the TC Suite, recently updated to include Acrobat 9.
So far, this TC Suite has been nothing but a headache for us
here in my company (but that's another story entirely).

Found the fix to this issue from another posting. Ran the
utility to "re-register" three system files provided by MJs Help
Diagnostics.

DVR Search Option No Longer Works - After The Crap Upgrade

The new software upgrade is crap. DVR search option no longer works. I can't use the search option to find my favorite programs and set the DVR to record them. It only lets me put the first letter in the search field and then nothing. I can't enter any more letters aftet that.
Verizon sent me another DVR but it has same issues. They sent a technician to my house and he basically told me, the upgrade is crap and lots of people are having technical issues.
He gave me another box and said it is working. Now I have three DVRs sitting in my house and I have to return two. After he left I tried to search and I have the same exact issue so basically he just lied and didn't fix anything.
I called tech support over and over, and they just told me that they can't do anything. They basicaly admitted that the upgrade is crap and the are clueless on how to fix it. So I'm stock with 3 DVRs that don't work. Billing department told me they can't give me any discounts either.
Anyone else is having these issues?

Same issue here. Sent me another box, same model as the old one. Same exact issues. Called Tech support back, they admitted it was a known issue, and nothing he could do about it. Was told I had to talk to someone in SALES to get them to send me a newer box.
New box is here, and now i have no option to record. Oh, and last time I called tech support... I got 'disconnected' (after being on hold for 30+ minutes). They are really dropping the ball, and I will not be renewing.

Have you tried going to System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy and dragging your hard drive into the box then drag it back. That will trigger a re-index.

Nokia Maps - Postcode search is no longer working

Please help!
The is a post on the navigation and GPS section but I wanted to see if anyone on the main forum has experienced the problem, because we cannot find a solution.
Up until the last few days whilst online when I searched for a post code on Nokia Maps the result was the full post code location. When I did the same search offline the result was truncated. ie bp11 4re became bp11 4.
This is pretty useless in trying to locate anything using a post code.
Today I noticed that whether I was online or not, the post code search always produced the shortened result.
I have now searched on line and found nothing save for the post mentioned above. I have performed a hard reset and have the latest firmware for my phone (v12) I also have the latest version of maps v1.2.
Please can someone shed some light on why this search facility has changed. Could it be something to do with the Nokia Server?

The last one suggests that a full postcode search needs an internet connection.
This lead to a solution!
In Maps, under Settings / General / Connection you have a choice of Online or Offline. If you have Offline then the search is limited as described, with the last two postcode characters ignored. If you have Online selected, then it works properly.
So even though Nokia Maps are offline maps, the full postcode search is done on their server.

It shows just 4 always as an option in the "open with" lsit. Also I haven't downloaded any apps for a while so why would it start now?
Do you know how I can estabilsh how many apps are counting toward this 10 and what they are?

Summary :
We are using SharePoint 2010 Ent edition and users were able to checkout Pdf files similar to local drafts folder like any other office file without any problem when they used office 2010.
i.e
Unfortunately ever since their machines upgraded with office 2013 recently , this functionality completely stopped working for PDF files. This has now become a big problem for the users when it comes to check out and replace PDF files.
All browser plugins required for this functionality (i.e SharePoint OpenDocuments Class ) are all available and active. All document libraries are configured to Checkout is required for editing files. Browser version
used at the moment is IE9 (32 bit) version with windows 7.
Can anyone please help with this issue and any help to get away with this problem is much appreciated.

Based on your description, my understanding is that the PDF files cannot be checked out to local drafts folder after Office 2013 is installed.
Did this issue occur with Office files?
I recommend to check if the Office files can be checked out to local drafts folder with Office 2013.
And it is recommended to use Office 2010 with SharePoint 2010 for best practice.

I recently downloaded 6.1.2 and am regretting it...for one reason...the search function no longer works correctly. !!

I personally and professionally rely on text messaging extensively. Since upgrade, the search function doesn't work correctly. It only returns partial results. This has never happened with previous upgrades. All the old texts are there but it does not search the entire history. If i compose new text and duplicate the recipients from an old text, it will bring up string...just cant search for it. PLEASE HELP SOMEONE.

Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. This can be a little time consuming re-entering all of the device settings again.

Search function no longer works when Mail folder is encrypted

This problem is a result of my attempt to put my User/Library/Mail folder onto an encrypted disk image, so that my mail images would be encrypted without having to encrypt my WHOLE Account with FileVault (rendering Time Machine virtually useless). Like many, I had to create a symbolic link from the terminal rather than use the Alias...that wasn't a problem. I can send/receive/read/write email all while it stays safely encrypted on the Sparse disk image that I created (by the way THANKYOU for making creating the sparse BUNDLE image an option, this makes it useable for time machine so it doesn't back up the whole thing)...Mail appeared to work perfectly with my folder in the new location
HOWEVER...I quickly discovered that the search tool in the upper right hand corner of the Mail View no longer works...It will allow me to search the "from", "to" and "subject" lines like any old mail program would, BUT the "Entire Message" option returns on results. There must be something special about the Library folder in my Home folder, because I haven't restricted my spotlight settings. In fact with the disk mounted, I even re-indexed my WHOLE computer just to see what would happen. Spotlight is able to search for FILE names on my encrypted disk, but the search "Entire Message" still doesn't work...are there any solutions? I've spent a great deal of time searching the internet for a solution to no avail. I feel like this question requires a real mac genius, but there are other people throughout other forums posting the same question with no answer. I'm no genius, but I'm not afraid of using Terminal if I'm told the basic gist of what should be typed there. I would love to see his answered fully. Thanks!

I strongly suggest that you report this to Apple. Send Feedback and send bug reports and enhancement requests via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

Finder's 'Search Contents' no longer working

I used to be able to use this to search for keywords in text files. Not the file-name, but the actual contents within the text file. It's no longer working. I'm wondering if perhaps FileVault is the problem? Can anyone else cross-verify this, or suggest possible solutions?

Unfortunately extensions alone are not always unique file type identifiers, especially short ones that may have had origins in the "dot plus three" restrictions of DOS. OS X uses multiple criteria to make a 'best guess' at the file type, including filename extensions, Finder info, & even OS 9 style type & creator codes if present. I wish I could be more definite about this, but perhaps someone else with a better grasp of the topic can suggest the best way to go.

Bing location and other search functions no longer working

Just updated system software to v.5.0.0.973 and bing the local searches and direction searchs no longer work. I have deleted and reinstalled bing several times with out any luck. Any suggestions that would help?

Check that the app is designed to work with the os?
When you reinstall, are you downloading a new version or reinstalling the old one?

The clear history in the google search box no longer works

I'm using firefox 3.6.16. Suddenly the clear history link on the google search bar is not working. I can clearch history under tools but not within the search bar ,I don't know how to correct the problem. Can someone tell me what to do?

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
1. Clear Firefox's Cache

On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"
2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here
While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
Also, I think the Ask toolbar (add-on) has been reported to create problems with the links in Google search results. You could try disabling it here:

Hierarchy Search Option is not working

Hi i have an Orgunit hierarchy ,
when i am searching a node which is of particular hierarchy using the search option in BEX i could not able to get the node. For your info the query def values are selected as from the infoprovider at the infoobj level.
If i selects selection as value range it works fine but when i select the selection options as single value it is not diplaying. The data is availabe in the infoprovider level so please can anybody throw light on this if you come across these kind of situation

I believe that Spotlight only performs its "indexing" function on internal hard drives. So it would not know the contents of attached Servers.

Search function no longer works after upgrading to 10.5.6

After upgrading to 10.5.6 I noticed that the search command no longer finds anything on my connected AFP Server (OS X Server 10.3. 9). When I start a search in the finder, even though I can see the item on the screen it gives a result of zero. Is any one else out there experiencing this issue. Is there a workaround?

Is the search feature no longer working?

I have been trying to search the KBase for answers to posters questions but no matter what text I type in I simply get sent to a page that asks me to select a country, when I do it simply takes me to the main forum page. The same thing happens on the main forum page also. No matter what you do it won't work. If you are in a specific forum and use the search feature it will work within that forum but I cannot get it to work using the advanced search or on a search for a particular Kbase article. Even some of the links to kbase articles that I had return me with the same error. In fact, all of them do.
It seems a shame that all that knowledge is going to waste!!
Is there any idea what is happening and a timetable as to when it will be operational again?

I've experienced this, too. I don't know the cause, but a work-around is, when you get that "select a country page," simply hit the "back" button on your browser so that you're once again on the search page and then hit the search button again.
It's worked for me in the past and I just tried it again just now to make sure and it still works.
