Search without case sensitivity??

I am trying to create a search function that displays a report based on the search. I have the following query:
select
date_participated "Date Participated:",
highschool_attended "Highschool Attended:",
attending_college "Attending College:",
college_attended "College currently attending:", participate_intercollegiate "Participating intercollegiate:",
what_sport "What Sport:",
what_position "What Positions:",
financial_help "Financial Help:",
financial_help_kind "Financial help kind:",
additional_comments "Additional Comments:",
name_and_address "Name and Address:"
from bcombine_survey where HIGHSCHOOL_ATTENDED like NVL(REPLACE(:P3_Highschool|| '%','0',NULL) ,'%');
My first question is:
1. How can I make that query so that it is not case sensitive.
2. Can i create a query that will search the database for any string that the client puts in? For exanple, if a highschool is named Athens and the client searches for "thens" I want it to pop up the Athens.

Hi BlackMamba11
Try something like:
WHERE UPPER(MY_VARCHAR_COLUMN) LIKE '%' || UPPER(:P3_MY_TEXT_ITEM) || '%'
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Patrick

  • Sort column by without case sensitive  using Comparator interface

    Hello,
When i sorted my values of a column in a table it was showing all sorted upper case letters at top rows and all sorted lower case letters on bottom. So i would like to sort values without case sensitive order. Like. A, a, B, b, C, c....
I am using Collection class to sort vector that contains the values of a column as an object and using Comparator interface to sort the values of a column in either ascending and descending order. It facilitates to compare two objects like.
    <class> Collections.sort(<Vector contains values of column to be sort>, <Comparator interface>);
    and in interface it compares two objects ((Comparable) object).compareTo(object);
Now Let's suppose i have three values say Z, A, a to sort then this interface sorted in ascending order like A, Z, a
but the accepted was A, a, Z. So how can i get this sequence. I would like to sort the values of a column without case sensitive manner.

  • BI BEx & WAD F4 Search: How to search non-case sensitive

    Dear Colleagues,
is there meanwhile a better and comfortable solution for this problem, or have'nt changed anything since "How to... Search non-case sensitive" paper from 2003.

    Hi Gerhard,
    I quote from OSS note 914303 :
The BI search requires the TREX Server as of 7.0 Support Package 06 or higher. If the search engine is not fully installed, you can still use the standard search that the system carries out in the database. However, as a result, the search takes longer, <u>it is case-sensitive</u> and it does not support the search for attributes.
    Hope this helps,

    Hi,
Is searching in portal content still case sensitive in EP7?  In other words, if you go to Content Administration -> Search -> iView and type in the name, is this type of search still case sensitive?  If not, how do I fix it?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • How to ... Search non-case sensitive?

    Hello,
prior to SAP NetWeaver 2004s we implemented the How to Guide "How to ... Search non-case sensitive" in SAP BW 3.5.
This solution is no longer valid in BI 7.
Does anybody know how to implement a non-case sensitive search in SAP NetWeaver 2004s BI?

  • Making search non case sensitive

    Hi,
I have implemented a search help which I have copied from standard help ‘PREM’. I have created a Database view, taking that View I have created an Elementary search help and I have assign the elementary search help in the collective search help ‘ZPREM’ which is copied from ‘PREM’.  In the search help I have two fields (NACHN, VORNA), which are case sensitive fields.
How to make it Non Case Sensitive?
    Regards,
    Jitendra

    Hi ,
without checking  "Lower Case" ,  any  case(upper/lower)  u are entering will be  converted to upper case internally and the respective data will be displayed .
With checking the lower case check box in domain  , u will get the  exact  case  data  in which u have entered .
but if ur requirement  is like ,   if u enter   a*  in VORNA  FIELD  and it should display
    a*
A*     - ie. all the names starting with the both 'a'  or  'A'   ,   then
You can go for Search Help Exit . Inside the function module catch the  entered  name and select  required records from DB as per ur requirement and insert  result  into  RECORD_TAB[]  internal table  , having  standard search help result  list .

  • Firefox CTRL+F Search bar searching with Case Sensitive

is this only for me or all ?
Fiefox search bar is working with case sensitive.. if i type in capital.. it is only showing the results with capital.
for example. Type "vishnu" in search bar. it will only show you the small vishnu below.
    VISHNU vishnu
is it a bug ? or is it a feature ? if it is a feature, i want to disable it :(

You can remove the check-mark on Match Case if you open the Find bar via Ctrl+F (Edit > Find).

  • Default Search is Case-sensitive

I go to contributor mode and try to choose an image. A window that contains alll the image content items show up. I type the name of the content item (an image) in the small search text box on the top right side of the window.
It seems that when I enter a value in the text box, it performs a Case-Sensitive search. Is there a way I can make this case-insensitive search. For eg; Let us assume that we have a content item called 'IM_ABOUT_US_ICON'. if I enter 'im' in the text box, I do not get any result. But, if I enter 'IM', I get all content items that starts with 'IM'
    Thanks

  • Search help case sensitivity(ZKREDI)

    Hi Gurus!
I would like to add a new field KVERM (Account memo)
to the elementary search help ZKREDI.So I added the
field KVERM to the search help parameter and added
that field in teh selection method Z_KREDI too.
The search help is showing me the selection criteria
and when I put the value it shows as per teh selection also.
The only problem is with teh case . When I put in my selection
any lower case character it says no values for this selection
but at teh same time when I put the upper case chaarcter
like N and do the selection it displays the output list.
Is theer way I cane make this field selection in my search help
also case 'INSENSITIVE' if possible .
    Thanks

Not unless there is another filed in LFB1 which is an upper case translation of KVERM. (That's how some of the other search helps work.)

  • Nokia 2630 contact search is case sensitive... is ...

    Hi
I have a Nokia 2630 since last summer and I find it really annoying that I need to manually toggle between upper-case (for the first character) and lower-case (for the rest of the word) when typing a search in the contacts. Do you know if there is a way of avoiding this? I know that it would work if all my contacts were written in upper-case but that is not the case (and don't want to change that) moreover when the standard entry for a new contact automatically toggles the first letter in capital and the rest in lower-case....
    Thanks for your help, experts!!

  • Business Partner search (case sensitive)

I create a Business Partner with the following details
    FirstName - Vikram
    LastName - Chandna
When i search the created Business Partner via Tcode-FPP3 by name, the
search is case In-Sensitive(i.e Font case doesn't matter)
But, when i search the same in the Database table-BUT000 directly or in
the SAP Query/Reports , the search is Case-Sensitive.
    Why?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Gagan

    Hi Gagan,
The field BU_SORT1 in Table BUT000 which is for search option has data type as Character without Lowercase. If the Lowercase option (in the output characteristicks)  is ticked in the table, the sytem will allow you to search based on Lowercase as well.

  • How do I make search case sensitive

I created a search region of type "query" using a simpleSearchPanel. The instructions say the search is case-sensitive when running the page but it appears it is not. Can anyone tell me how to make the search case sensitive?

Please check if you have followed these guidelines
Rule 2 : If your view attribute is of type String(VARCHAR2), and if the item has the Selective Search Criteria property set to false, then OA Framework generates a case-insensitive simple WHERE clause based on the CRITERIA_CONDITION and the CRITERIA_VALUE.
Rule 3: If your view attribute is of type String(VARCHAR2), and the item has the Selective Search Criteria property set to true, then OA Framework generates a case-insensitive WHERE clause using a four-way join to ensure that the index is used.

  • Can Search help in Web Portal be made so that it is NOT case sensitive?

We have a number of reports that users access via the web portal.  Most of these reports have a variable selection screen that appears so that users can pre-filter the report before executing it.  When the user selects search help on any of the variables and attempts to search the text values, the search is case-sensitive. But we have some data stored all caps and some data stored mixed case, so this isn't very convenient for the user.  I would like to be able to set up the search window so that the searches are not case sensitive.  Is there a global setting that can accomplish this, or can the search page be customized?  Any guidance would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I have the same issue. There was a fix in 3.5 using function module RSA_CHA_BUILD_QUERY however this doesn't exist in 7.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

  • Search User Page - Case Sensitivity Problem

    Hi,
While searching users according to the criterias like user's firstname or lastname, the search is case sensitive.
Is there a way to make incase sensitive search?
    Thanks.

I would say a no for it because at the back-end the findUsers() API is getting called for which the value is a String Object. So its always case insensitive according to me.

  • Case sensitive filed in DB table, Filter needed ignoring case sensitivity

    Hi,
Therse is a DB table with one of the fields marked to recognize case sensitivity. I have to do a filter on this field with a wild card pattern such that irrespective of the case, the record should be extracted as and when the pattern is found.
One way of doing this is TRANSLATE field to UPPER CASE after extracting all the records to an internal table.
But I see that this can be an expensive call as there are tons of records to be processed. Is there any performance efficient way to handle this?
    Example:
    Filed Name: XML_LINE.
Field Content can be in any of the following formats:
    Format 1: break.
    Format 2: BREAK
    Format 3: BreaK.
    Format 4: breAK.
    Format 5: breAK-point.
    Format 6: breAK-POINT.
The wild card pattern I would like to use here is on the word "break" irrespective of the case and extract only the relevant records.
    wild card pattern1: b*.
    wild card pattern:B*.
Can count of the number of letters help here for the words "break." and "break-point." along with wild card patterns or is there any better way of doing this?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ranjini

    Hi,
a solution is to create a second field without case sensitive ans stored word in UPER CASE.
If you see in SAP (f.e. Customer or Creditor), SAP store NAME in a search field (in upper case). Make the same.
