Searching Japanese Keywords using CGPDF

Hi All,
We have been working on an iPad application, which will render the PDFs with Japanese content and we need to provide a functionality for searching the Japanese keywords. We are using CGPDF APIs for scanning and the contents returned by the scanner was having ASCII character set or junk values. The search is failing due to this. We have tried encoding the scanner returned contents to UTF8 encoding, still it is showing the same results.
Any help/support is appreciated
-Thanks in Advance,
Sijis

Thanks Tom.
I tried with different set of Japanese PDFs am not sure exactly which Japanese character set encoding will be supported by CGPDF libraries. I am using the below method to extract text from the PDF:
NSString *data = (__bridge NSString *)CGPDFStringCopyTextString(string);
and it returns ASCII character set. Tried converting them to UTF8 encoding, still the same result.

  • Oracle iRecruitment: Keyword Search within Resumes using Oracle Text

    Dear All,
As per my understanding (and Note: 247064.1) simple Keyword searches can be performed in iRecruitment if oracle Text is installed. However searching for Keywords within resumes is not possible using Oracle Text and is possible ONLY if Resume Parsing is enabled via a third party (non-oracle) service provider.
Can you please let me know if my understanding is correct and if not provide further inputs on this.
    Thanks,
    Subrat

Got this confirmation from Oracle via SR:
Resume searching is independent of resume parsing and not required to search resumes.
Oracle Text is the text engine that allows you to search documents using content-based queries. Oracle Text allows you to upload documents, search documents, parse resumes, etc.
Hence to conclude - Installation of Oracle Text will allow Keyword Searches on resumes.
    Thanks,

  • How do I use search engine keywords?

I'd like to be able to define the search engine to use within the search box. For example, typing "google: firefox help" searches firefox help via Google, and "yahoo: firefox help" searches the same thing via Yahoo. Is this possible? I assume that's what the search engine keywords (in the search engine manager) are for, but I can't figure out how to use them.

I use the keyword on Firefox 4 address bar, not on the search bar. It works!

  • Searching iPhoto clips  using iPhoto keywords within iMovie ('09)??

Just returned to Apple after a 30 years (yes, 30 years) absence with a lovely refurb iMac.
Main problem now is moving over and categorizing my library of photos and video clips taken with my Canon g9 . iPhoto has got the photo end covered nicely, now that I figured out how to use Bibble to process the raw images.
But videos is another matter. I really do like the way iPhoto uploads and categorizes my videos out of the box, and adding in the same keywords as my pictures makes it a winner for me. BUT, I noticed when looking at the iPhoto clips from within iMovie, the keywords assigned to the clips from within iPhoto are not accessible from within iMovie. Yes, iMovie has its own keywords, but geez must I really go through ALL those clips and re-keyword (new verb ?) them all after already doing it within iPhoto at import ?? AIUI, the keywords are saved in XML files in iPhoto. Isn't there a plugin or something available for iMovie that would allow it to search iPhoto clips using the iPhoto assigned keywords ? it seemed a no-brainer to me, given that these programs are designed to work together at some level, but apparently not. Or am I missing something ?
iMovie has not impressed me as a stand-alone cataloguing program, so I've looked into iDive, Footrack, etc, but those are not accessible from Front Row, whereas there is a little tool that makes clips in iPhoto visible from FR (called Purre).
A compromise might be necessary, but first I want to be sure that what I am suggsting cannot be done.
your collective wisdom will be much appreciated

It might be worth it to you to keyword in iMovie. It is very different from iPhoto. For example, if you have a 30 minute movie in an Event, and you have 2 minutes of your child as part of the movie, you can keyword those two minutes and go instantly to those frames. In iPhoto, you could put a keyword that your child is in the video, but you would only know that it is somewhere in the 30 minutes and you would have to search for it.
See [this video tutorial|http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/#mark] for how to do simple marking of your video.

  • Reading Keywords Used in Browser Searches

I'd like to be able to capture the keywords used by visitors in their searchs that arrive at my website. I know the analytics packages all do this but I would like to capture it and store it with contact records within my application. Does any on know how I can access this data? Is it like a cgi variable?
    Thanks!

Heh.  It was the W3C who can't spell, actually: it's wrong

just a "IT people are very often poor spellers" thing.
Even the ones at the W3C.
As the expression goes "Not for nothin", but you guys are just figuring this out now? Has it not been around for over a decade?
Well I've been in the industry for about eight years and I've known about it for about eight years.  Not sure I can do better than that.

  • Search Option? and Are iPhoto keywords used?

Once our website is setup, is there a Search option?
I'd like to import photos from iPhoto into a photo album webpage, but I need to have the keywords also. Are the keywords automatically exported also, or is there a way to add them to the photos afterward. Then, of course, I'd like to search for keywords.
    Thanks so much!
    Terri

    Hi terri,
It looks like the images do not pull the keywords with it. You can check by control-clicking the /Users/<your name>/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites file. you will then see all of the photos that have been copied to the iweb pages. Open one of the photos in preview, go to Tools->Get Info... You can then see the keywords that are associated with the photo (or lack thereof).
    Hope that helps, Rusty.

  • Search on Keyword not showing correct results

I tagged all 5k of my images keywords. Basically people's names of who is in the image.
I then ran a search by person's name, but a lot of the results do not contain the keyword I searched for.
In the results I checked the metadata tab under Keywords: and my search term is not listed.
    Am I missing something?

Yes, I added the keywords using 'Batch Change....'
The Keyword HUD shows all my keywords listed right there at the root. ie. My keywords are not under any other keywords. ie. iPhoto/Raw or Personal/Backyard

  • Assigning "hierarchical" keywords using Batch Change or Metadata Preset

Part of my keywording structure looks like this:
    Men
         Basketball
         Golf
         etc.
    Women
         Basketball
         Golf
         etc.
I know that true hierarchical keywords don't exist in Aperture. But when I assign keywords using the Keyword Controls or dragging from the HUD, the parent (men or women) is "attached" so you can search for the one you want.
I want to be able to assign the proper keywords using Batch Change or in a metadata preset during import. But I have yet to find a way to do this. Is there some hidden syntax for this? Or is it one of those impossible things in Aperture's current (and rather limited) keyword handling?

    You're welcome.
A second copy of the iPhoto library on a second drive is always good. I once lost my backup drive and the system drive at the same time, because a lightning caused a power surge that killed both my macs system drive and the connected backup drive. I was lucky to have a bootable clone of the system drive as a second backup.
I like this version of the quote you cited:

there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,

  • TOC problem; lost Search and Keyword boxes

I inherited a Robohelp X5 project that was originally started
by a person very familiar with these types of programs, then
ultimately messed up by someone who knew nothing about them or the
content. I spent most of my time re-writing and updating the
content using X5, then upgraded to 7 this morning. I have learned
quite a bit about the program, not obviously not enough. I'm sure
these are things I've messed up, because they worked before; but I
don't know what I did or how to fix it...
First, the TOC is built, with books and pages are in the
order I want. The books are linked to a page - presumably, so that
when a user clicks on the book, it defaults a particular page, and
from there they can move to other pages in the section. However,
when I view the results, you have to click on the book, then click
on the individual page to get the page to open.
Next, I have 'lost' the Search boxes for the Index and
Keyword searches. When I look at the skin, they appear there, but
when I view the project, they aren't - the index and keyword lists
    appear instead of the boxes.
If anyone can give me some direction on what I need to do,
    I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks so much for trying to help me - I apologize in advance
for being suce a novice, and I promise I'll try to learn more about
this program and not bother you guys so much in the future. Right
now I'm just in a bind with needing to get the file posted.
I right-clicked on each of the books, went to Properties, and
confirmed that the Book with Link box is checked, near the bottom
of the window, in the Link to: box is the page that I want the book
to open with. However, when I view the project, that isn't what
happens. For example: I have a Book named Getting Started, under it
are several pages related to initial set up of the software, one of
which is named Getting Started. The Book is linked to the page; but
when I open the project in View, I click on Getting Started and it
expands to show the pages; I have to actually click on the Getting
Started page to open it. Before, whenever I clicked on the Getting
Started Book, the Getting Started Page opened to reveal the
contents of the Book. On the Book Properties window, there isn't
anything in the Available Variables box, and if I go to the
Advanced tab, the Frame reads Default (none) - should the Book or
the Page be designated as a Parent Frame?
With regard to losing the Search and Keywords boxes - I have
an Index full of words; went through yesterday and cleaned it all
up, then generated Webhelp. When I open it to View, the project
opens to the TOC, which is good, but the Search button that usually
appears at the top of the Help screen is not there. Then, when I
click on either the Index or Search tabs, what I see is the
alphabet where the Search box should be, with a list of all of the
index words below. If I open the Skin that was used on the project
and View it, the Search boxes appear there.
I looked at the website that Peter directed me to, but I
don't really see anything there that addresses either of these
issues. Under the Tools menu I did locate an Update DHTML Effects
in Topic; but when I click on it, it returns a message that tells
me that after the conversion the topics cannot be opened by
previous versions of RoboHelp HTML. I've answered No to convert all
of the topics, because I'm not sure that's what I should do.

  • Searching by keyword doesnt work Outlook 2013

This seems like a weird one everyone. Searching in outlook by keyword doesn't work. Searching by sender and subject does work however. It should be noted that the user can search by keyword at other pcs and on the owa.
    Heres what I've tried:
    Reinstalling outlook
    deleting users mailbox and recreating
    repairing outlook 2013
    repairing pst/ost files
removing directories from index and putting them back in
    and rebuilding the entire index.

Sorry for my delay. If the issue persists in safe mode but not in other computer, please create a new Windows profile to have a try. Outlook uses data that is located in several different registry entries under the HKEY_CURRENT_USER key and in data files
in your local Windows profile. Therefore, you can test Outlook by using a new Windows profile to eliminate many of these settings and files as the cause of your problem.
If the issue persists when using a new Windows profile, I suggest we can try to perform a clean boot in your Windows for more troubleshooting:

  • Search of forums using global portal search (TREX) finds no results

    Hello,
we are running EP 7.00 SP 12, and have installed and configured the forums application.
According to [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/47/17904a21fa3696e10000000a11466f/content.htm], it is also possible to search the forums using the global portal search.
After the forums installation, the index and queue were automatically created for the forums. TREX Delta indexing of forum object is enabled in  System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Repository Managers -> Forum Repository. As I understand it, this should be enough for TREX to be able to index forum objects. There exist some simple threads in the forums, but when searching in the portal for some keywords that exist also in the threads, I get no results.
I looked at the queue of the forums index, and there have been only 6 entries, so I performed a reindexing and got now about 24 entries, but still the portal search returns no result.
Is there anything that I've missed or any further suggestions to test for?
P.S. I am quite new to the SAP (NetWeaver) domain, maybe I missed some mandatory settings or configurations...

    Hi Martin,
    thanks for your reply.
Till now, I didn't manage to solve the problem. I was away the last week, so I didn't had any time for working on this issue.
Currently I am not able to test your suggestions, because there is a new problem with the index. The index has now the state "pending". Because of this state I am not able to perform any further actions like re-indexing and so on. On help.sap.com there is only little information about this state. But for me it looks like, that there has to be performed some actions in the TREX Admin Tool, so that this index can be used again.
I tried also the following on the portal:
    - Delete this forum index
    - Disable TREX delta indexing in the forums repository manager
    - Enable TREX delta indexing in the forums repository manager.
This caused the creation of a new index for the forum. This new created index had however the initial state of "pending"...
Has anyone further suggestions on this topic?
P.S. Has someone successfully implemented such a scenario in his portal? (global portal search for forums)

  • Aperture 3: search child keywords only ?

    Hi all,
Since a few days I am using Aperture on my iPhoto11 library. That library already had a lot of keywords, which I now have organized in Aperture using the hierarchical keyword feature. Now I would like to remove the keywords that have become parent keywords from the images (they were put there by an iPhoto plug-in) in order to keep only the lowest level keywords physically assigned to the photo's.
My idea was to do a keyword search on any of the parent keywords and then remove these keywords from the selected photo's. Unfortunately searching on a parent keyword also selects photos that do not physically have that keyword assigned to them but have it assigned implicitely because of the hierarchical structure.
Suppose I would have the following keyword hierachy:
    Nature
         Fauna
              Bird
                   Duck
I would like "Duck" to be the only keyword actually assigned to a photo. Because of my legacy iPhoto library many "Duck" pictures have the other keywords assigned to them as well. To remove them, I did a keyword search for "Nature", the idea being to then remove "Nature" from the selected photos. Unfortunately when I do this keyword search, it will also show pictures that do not actually hold the Nature keyword but have it implicitely assigned because it holds one or more of the child keywords.
What I would like is to show ONLY the images having the Nature keyword actually assigned to them. This option seems to be missing from the keywrod search dialogue, although the user manual suggests it would be possible, but in my opninion the user manual is wrong here. Under "Searching by Keyword" it states that the option "are applied" would show all images that have THE SELECTED keywords. This is not true: it will show all images that have ANY keyword applied. It is not even possible to select a keyword if you chose this option. All other options show the behaviour as described above.
So, does anybody know how I can select only images holding a particular keyword that is actually assigned to those images and ignore the hierachy ?

    First, back-up your Library.
Second, repair your Library -- instructions are on the Apple Aperture Trouble-shooting page.  You should, imho, _always_ repair your Library after every crash.  (Force-quitting is a user-initiated crash.)
You should be able to batch assign and delete keywords without hanging your system.  Changing keywords for ten-thousand Images may take several minutes, but it should never crash Aperture or your system.  That problem should be addressed before you attempt to pare and clean your keyword tree.
What is your set-up?  Aperture & OS versions, RAM, free space on system disk, location and size of Aperture Library, location and number of Referenced Originals, etc.  Has it been stable in the past?  Made any recent changes?
Third, confirm that your system runs Aperture well, and specifically that it runs your Library well.
Fourth -- strictly my personal suggestion -- adopt a keywording system that rigorously differentiates between "keywords as groups" and "keywords as tags".  So instead of "Nature; Fauna; Bird; Duck" use something like "=Nature=; a.Fauna; a.Bird; DuckMallard" where keywords bracketed by "=" are top-level groups, keywords prefixed with "a." are _groups_ and -- this is the rigorous part -- don't ever assign any top-level or grouping keyword to an Image.  Assign only "bottom-level" identifying keywords.
With such a system, "DuckMallard" and "DuckPinTailed" and "DuckCanvasBack" are assigned to Images as appropriate, and each Image so tagged will be included whenever you search for any of "=Nature=", "a.Fauna", or "a.Bird".
In this example, I suggest using the prefix "Duck" before all ducks so that when you sort an alpha list of keywords all your ducks are in a row.  If, instead, you preferred to group your ducks, make a group called "a.Ducks" and then you wouldn't need the "Duck" before "Mallard", "Teal" etc.  I found it helpful to include keywords such as "DuckUnknown" and "DuckGeneric" and "ID_Me"
Converting your current system to this system shouldn't be much work once you have your Library working well.
There are some refinements hidden in plain sight in Aperture's use of keywords, but let's make sure your Library is working first.  On my machine, I can filter for, say, "Fauna".  As you see, this will include both Images with "Fauna" assigned, and any Images with keywords that are children of "Fauna".  I can still select all and remove "Fauna".  The result is that none of the selected Images have "Fauna" assigned -- even though, if I filter for "Fauna" I will still be shown all the Images that have keywords that are children of "Fauna".
    HTH,
    --Kirby.

  • Searching with keywords

Is there a maximum number of keywords allowed? For my purposes I have used many across several events. When I go to search by keywords, the window that appears with the keywords only has the last 176 keywords; only those beginning with "p" through "z" for instance. I'm not able to see names beginning with "a" through "o". There is no scroll bar to access the others.

No there isn't a maximum allowed but the developer's seem not to have considered that people may have more than a screen full of keywords.
    Workarounds:
Use Smart Albums: Keyword -> Is -> Whatever, and of course you can have as many keyword conditions as you like.
Use Keyword Manager which gives you an alternative interface with your keywords that makes assigning and searching easier - among other features.

  • Searching photo keywords with spotlight

Hi - I have been adding keywords to my photos - through Photoshop. Spotlight does search these keywords. The problem is, I also add "Author" data to the photos and I want to be able to search just by keyword - is there any way to narrow the search, or is there a third-party application that will do this. I can search within Photoshop's File Browse, but I am not crazy about the interface.
    Thanks

Assuming you're using the ⌘F interface in Finder - you can select Keywords as a specific criteria option - click on Kind or Last Modified to change. If you give it a few seconds, it generates a list of all the keywords in the index allowing you to pick them from the drop down menu.
Entering the term in the standard search oval, or on the menubar Spotlight offers some ability to narrow the search but its limited.
