does anyone see a solution to search for ascertain string in all tables in all rows in the hole database :-)
something like
select * from all_tables where all_rows like '%MYSTRING'

I try to program some bar diagrams how log the backups are running.
Some information there are available in grid control I can not find in the database.
Maybe I don't know the right table !.
So I will search for e.G my system cluster name in all tables to find the relationship between backup jobname the hostname ( cluster node )and the clustername.

i love sqldeveloper. am moving from oraedit. however oraedit had a search database feature. it would search pl/sql functions, triggers, procedures,etc fort a string and return each occurrence and the line number of the module where found. you could then click on the line number you wanted and it would open the source into an editor.
not asking for all of that but would like to be able to search the entire database for a string.
is this possible?

I have yet to replicate K's buggy report search for text. However, there is a limitation in the current release that if you use the shipped report to find your text, in that it goes to the top of the code which contains your string. In the next release the report will go to the lin of code that contains your string. So that bug has been fixed.
In the next release we are also providing a more detailed search capability to allow users to search for columns in tables and strings in code, in addition to the current search which looks for objects in schemas.

Do you know a better way to get the data than Oracle can figure out?
What are you going to do with the data when you get it?
What if the computer crashes while you are getting it?
What if the definition of the table changes while you are trying to get the data?
What if the data is far away?
What if someone doesn't want you to see it?
What if you also need to get some other data too?
All these and more can influence what Oracle does internally. On some basic level, you can say Oracle will do a full table scan or a modified b-tree index search, but beyond that, it can go nuts.

Problem rename sharepoint 2010 search service application admin database

Hi all,
i have a problem that hopefully someone has an answer to. i am not too familiar with sharepoint so please excuse my ignorance.
we have sharepoint 2010 on a windows 2008r2 server. everything seems to work fine. but as you know, the default database names are horrendous. i have managed to rename all of them, except for the "search service application" admin
database.
the default is: Search_Service_Application_DB_<guid>
the other 2 databases (crawl and property) were renamed without a problem.
we are following the article from technet on how to rename the search service admin db (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-nz/library/ff851878%28en-us%29.aspx). it says to enter the following command:
$searchapp | Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -DatabaseName "new database name" -DatabaseServer "dbserver"
however, i get an error about identity being null. no big deal, i add the -Identity switch and the name of my search service application. but the real problem comes the error it throws:

when i look at the crawling content sources, i see "Local SharePoint Sites" and it's status is Idle. i even looked at this article on how to pause the search to no avail. (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee808864.aspx)
does someone know how i can rename my Search Service Applcation Admin database properly? or at least "pause" that service so i can rename it?

If you want to have no guids for your search admin db, i recommend you check out this script :)
just delete your search service application (assuming you have just started)

My iTunes keeps crashing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, including recreating the entire database, and it is still doing it. I recently upgraded to 10.5. Any ideas?

is it the way i called the information?

Moving a Entire Database

Does any one out there know of a easy way to copy a entire database from a working copy to a freshly installed copy. I currently have about 5 table spaces and about 5 users with all there schema and data, and I would like to move it from my windows server to a linux server, same version of oracle 10g. I know where alot of the files are and I know the ctl file will add the database, but I am not sure if it is really that easy or what is the best way.

Since you are using 10g, you may consider to use Oracle's Transportable Tablespace feature. It works now (some restrictions) even if the platforms are different.

Designer and Reverse Engineering Entire Database

Does anyone know of any good papers, books, articles, etc to help out with Designer. I really am having trouble finding anything.
What I am trying to do is capture an entire database into a new repository and I am plagued with errors. I'm a developer and really weak with Designer knowledge. I also want to find information on how I should organize my repository. Should each schema have its own application system folder if the schemas share/link information between one another?

One book that I have always found good is the Oracle Designer Handbook by Paul Dorsey and Peter Koletzke. Although it's a bit long in the tooth now (only goes upto v6 I think), it's still very useful.

What sort of errors are you getting? I presume you either have a live connection to the database or the DDL?
Without knowing the contents of your schema, it usually makes sense to group each one into its own application system, subject to the number of tables, etc. If you have tables which are referenced by other schemas, they can be put into one application system and shared to the other application systems as applicable.
Try and let us know a bit more about what you're trying to do.

Searching through a Large Database

There's a specialty program that I use all the time and it's built for windows only. This program pretty much searches through a big database of articles that this organization has published and you can read them.
I'm wondering, what should I do to redevelop the database? Is there a good program to use? and what language I should use?

Also some OS X seem to have shipped with OpenBase installed and some don't. I'm not sure what the process or license is on that but it is much friendly and GUI operative than MySQL. If you have it it's worth looking into if it'll work for you.

Just want to update the os from 32bit to 64bit with Oracle9i. Sinece the data amount is very large, to export and import is quite time consuming, so Is it possible to copy entire database? Or any other suggestion?

Restore entire database..why RESETLOGS

I have a consistent RMAN backup.I wanted to restore it to another server.my goal is replicating exactly what i have on my server to other.I dont require duplicate command..its just a question of asking why what i have done is not working .Rather why this procedure is not working.
Steps follwed are Restored entire database.
Now I have verified checkpoint_scn in controlfile and datafile headers are exactly same.So no Media recovery required.While recovering databsae is is asking me to use backup controlfile and while opening database it wants me open RESETLOGS.
When Checkpoint_SCN is in sync everywhere and i dont change db_name ,why it asks for RESETLOGS.Rather how it or where from it come to know that controlfile is restored.
I thoght may be REDO log files are not present so it might have identified.I have REDO log file copies so i copied and tried but same thing happened..RESETLOGS
if i copy datafile,controlfile and REDO logfile with OS command,i a
was not aked for RESETLOGS or backup controlfile while recovery and open database.
But in case of RMAN why and how it asks for RESETLOGS.I have everything in place as it is but why shoul i do RESETLOGS.

Now I have verified checkpoint_scn in controlfile and datafile headers are exactly same.So no Media recovery required.RMAN doesn't backup Online Redo Logs. RMAN wouldn't then, be checking Online Redo Logs.
Say you have this scenario :
At Time t1, cold backup of datafiles and controlfile
Current Time is t3 and Online Redo Logs are available
What is restored is the datafiles and controlfiles from t1 and the online redo logs from t3.
Is such a scenario possible ? YES.
(eg. your database crashed at t2 and all datafiles and controlfiles were lost, but the online redo logs are available -- probably because they were mirrored).
Can/should Oracle do an OPEN without a ResetLogs ? Obviously not ! A ResetLogs is necessary here.
But what if you had restored Online Redo Logs of t1 with the database of t1 ? If the controlfile is not of the same point in time, Oracle still cannot be sure that the Online Redo Logs are the "current" ones. Oracle has to assume and do an Incomplete Recovery. This has to be followed by an OPEN RESETLOGS.
While recovering databsae is is asking me to use backup controlfile and while opening database it wants me open RESETLOGS.RMAN wouldn't be "asking .. to use a backup controlfile". It seems that you are using the SQL RECOVER DATABASE command. If a BACKUP CONTROLFILE is used, an OPEN RESETLOGS is required. That is mandatory because Oracle cannot trust the controlfile (which it , by definition, would assume to be not "current") to have the latest information.
When you do a non-RMAN backup and Recovery, the ALTER DATABASE OPEN is issued from SQL. This checks the Online Redo Logs. If it finds that the Online Redo Logs are as of t3 but the database files, even consistent, are as of t1, then it will complain and require an OPEN RESETLOGS.
if i copy datafile,controlfile and REDO logfile with OS commandIf this is cold copy, then it doesn't require Recovery. If all three sets of files are consistent, than an Open ResetLogs is not required.

If you intend to DROP the Databases, and if these Databases were created by DBCA, you may use DBCA to DROP them. If the Databases were created manually you have the DROP DATABASE statement as follow:

About the Software, the answer depends on the Oracle Release.
In Oracle *11.1*, OUI let you deinstall the Oracle installation.
In Oracle *11.2*, you need to use the Oracle De-install Utility (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows.

how can i clone the entire database and import to another oracle database but in different server by using software of SQL Development? (include table structure & package)

It's also not clear what you want to do. At one point you say "clone database" and in your follow-up post "clone table".
Using either conventional or data pump export/import to clone a table or schema can be pretty easy. But cloning a database using those utilities is much more difficult. There are tonnes of things in the database that even a FULL exp/imp doesn't pick up on and move. I've posted a list of that in the MOS community.

Gathering Entire Database Structure

Hi Geeks,
I want to gather the entire database structure for our client database, which is outside of our country and it is impossible to send the export dump file since so many formalities are there. I need to gather the information, but not through export dump file. I don't need the datas, but only the structure from A-Z.
Is there any possible way to do it.

If i understood your question correctly then can use RMAN if you have the access. invoke "show schema" command to know the structure of your Database; Eg in my case:
