Second GWIA for routing to Exchange?

I know there are ton of threads about coexistence between Groupwise and Exchange and this maybe answered in one of them, but I havent found it. We have coexistence setup between Groupwise 7.02 and Exchange 2010. Simply using SMTP routing via GWIA route.cfg file that points our internal Exchange domain (exchange.domain.net) to the Exchange hub transport server. Since Groupwise is the authoritative domain still, we have single a GWIA that routes all inbound/outbound internet email for Groupwise as well as routes mail to/from Exchange. This configuration has worked well for months until we've had major issues with that GWIA server (Netware) randomly hosing up recently. Of course, when that happens SMTP mail flow is broken not only to/from the internet but also internally to/from Exchange. What I would like to do is setup a secondary GWIA (on a seperate Windows server) that handles ONLY the mail routing to/from Exchange. This way, if our primary GWIA server is broken at least internal mail will flow between the systems. I am unsure of how to do this, or if this is even a feasible solution. We are going to be in a coexistence state for several months during our migration, so I need to ensure internal mail flow between GW and EX is as stable as possible.
Any input/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Upgrading from Exchange 2003 Bridgehead servers to Exchange 2010 Transport Hub servers for routing SMTP only

Our company moved from on-premises Exchange 2003 to Office365 and only have 4 Exchange 2003 servers on-prem that we use for Routing email from application servers to Office365. We need to migrate these servers to Exchange 2010 then to Exchange 2013 and
only route email only. Is it possible to upgrade to Exchange 2010 by installing the transport Hub & Mailbox server options only? Our OAB and EWS services come from the CAS servers located on Office365 so we should not need a CAS server to set up Transport
rules or route mail would we? Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated! - Thanks, DWB
    Dave

Since it is not internet facing we will not have to worry about configuring an Internet Domain Name when installing the first server, correct? in my planning I was going to
install the Exchange 2010 CAS/Mailbox/Transport Hub roles on one server, then upgrade it to Exchange 2013. Once this is completed I'll then install the 2 mailbox role servers in one Datacenter, and 3 more in our DRP DC. If something happens to the
primary Datacenter I would want it to fail over to the other site. For this I would have to install another CAS/mailbox server in the secondary DC. Would this plan sound about right? Since we moved to Office365 in 2010 I have not had a chance to deal with
actual servers except for the Exchange 2003 servers we still have on-premises. Each of these are located in 4 Regional offices along with single Windows 2008 R2 servers using only the IIS SMTP service for routing mail from on-prem application servers
and print/scanners which email back to the users. The plan is to move to a routing system which will provide both MTA and redundancy if one has an issue.

  • GWIA and Route.cfg

My customer is currently moving away from GroupWise to the Google Cloud email solution, that said they have a question regarding how the GWIA can be used to forward mail messages to team members from sources such as routers, switches, etc,.
    Situation:
Status messages, and alerts are currently handled through the GWIA which is used to forward those messages onto their respective parties. With the introduction of the Google Cloud email service, there is no such method for forwarding those alerts off to these respective parties. They would like to have the GWIA be used to facilitate this process. Basically they would like to maintain a GroupWise GWIA(s) to forward emails to team members. Is this even a workable solution, a GWIA forwarding out to the Google Cloud?
    Additional questions from Customer:
1.) Currently they do not know exactly how the GWIA would handle internal addresses (nxxx.xxx) messages?
2.) There are currently 20 or more white lists (smtp relay(s) to GWIA), if these white lists send email to the internal address or nxxxx.xxx domain how would the GWIA handle this?
3.)Google Applications mx records change every ten minutes, what is the best way to configure the route.cfg (or is that the best way to handle this request)?
4.) Can a DNS name be used in the route.cfg or just IP address? (I currently am under the impression that route.cfg can only handle IP addresses)
    Thank you,

Your customer has the need for an internal SMTP service which forwards everything to Google? In this case just enter the hostname or IP of the Google SMTP service as a relay host and make sure Google accepts whatever comes from the GWIA's IP.
If using the GWIA for such stuff is a licensing issue, I don't know. Check with Novell.

    Good day,
Sorry for not responding sooner to your answer. Further I apologize for any confusions. Basically the second point you brought forth is what they are looking for.
1.) They want an internal SMTP server to forward everything to Google.
The question that they had was in respect to placing a DNS name in the Route.cfg, or would they even need to do that in the case that you described above? Looks like they can just use the DNS name or IP address of the Google Device, and as long as the Google Device is able to accept it as an incoming relay they should be alright. Is that a correct statement on my part?
This is going to be a temporary solution, until they are able to stand up another solution (most likely Postfix) I have spoken with Novell anout licensing and that has been answered.
Thank you for any further assistance that you can offer.

  • Routing not Exchanged

    Morning all,
I have two rev D MI424WR routers connected to one another via LAN Coax. I can obtain NTP successfully from the router that has the broadband connection, however the secondary router says its still waiting forresponse from NTP server. This tells me that routing between the two is not working properly, as the secondary router should be able to send traffic to the primary router, and then it would be passed out to the Internet.
Do I need to configure the secondary router to allow for routing information to be exchanged successfully?
    Thanks,
    Steve
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Here's how I see this issue. If the second router is able to allow other devices to transfer data across the network via the main router, there isn't anything wrong with the second router. I don't know how the ActionTec is set up when it comes down to NTP, and if it spends time trying to find other routes to an NTP server but I'm pretty sure this is just a problem due to the fact that it might be trying to use the MoCa WAN or Ethernet WAN port to search for an NTP server. Since those interfaces (OS-wise) are clearly down and that router technically isn't holding any sort of IP address besides it's own, the process is ultimately failing. I've seen it happen on many routers repurposed as access points/switches that attempt to search for NTP servers over the WAN Port.
You'll want to try messing with static routes to allow only the second router to reach an NTP server if at all possible, while having the second router not perform any form of routing function. Something like telling localhost traffic to go out on whichever interface the router is connected to the main network, and tying in information such as IP and Subnet mask of where it needs to go might work.

Now it's time to set up the second AE for my Hometheater using another AE. I'm just as puzzled as I was setting up the first AE. I have followed some directions, but most are explaining from their Mac computers, not PC......Help please !

A further note I have the latest version of Airport utility. Seems I'm suppose to have a drop down box allowing a wireless network... I saw that on a Mac screen shot of Airport utility....

  • Core layer switches IP address for routing

For routing process I add a IP address of each Vlans subnet that active on each Access and Distribution switches (Have a port with that Vlan on the switch) to the corresponding Vlan Interface of them.
Which IP address should I add to the Core switch for routing?
Should I add a IP of each vlan that in the LAN to each vlan interface of Core layer switch?
I want run OSPF routing protocol on the LAN.

    Hello Reza,
    >> Which IP address should I add to the Core switch for routing?
if you want to implement a L3 routed core every link betweeen core device and a distribution device is a L3 link with its own IP subnet.
For example if you have 16 distribution pairs and two core switches:
    10.10.10.0/30 dis11 to core1
    10.10.10.4/30 di12 to core2
    10.10.10.8/30 dis21 to core1
    10.10.10.12/30 di22 to core2
    10.10.10.128/30 disF1 to core1
    10.10.10.132/30 disF2 to core2
this under the idea to have not a full mesh between core routers and distribution devices
then you need also a L3 link between the two cores (at least one)
Each L3 device should also have a loopback interface to be used as OSPF router-id and for management purposes (telnet and so on)
you can use /32 loopbacks taken from same block for example
    10.255.254.1/32 core1
    10.255.254.2/32 core2
    10.255.254.3/32 dis11
    10.255.254.4/32 dis12
to make the routing function the core switches have to talk OSPF on all links to distribution nodes
    router ospf 10
    router-id 10.255.254.1
    network 10.10.10.0 0.0.0.255 area 0
    network 10.255.254.1 0.0.0.0 area 0
network area commands work like ACL statements and first statement starts OSPF on each interface whose ip address belongs to 10.10.10/24 space
Second command is used to advertise its own loopback.
router-id command allows to define the OSPF router-id.
Distribution nodes have to advertise client Vlans and to take part in OSPF communication on point to point link.
if you use a L2 access layer design client vlans are served by distribution nodes.
if you use a L3 access layer design the access layer switches take part in OSPF and have to advertise their own client vlans.
    Hope to help

  • Retrieve mails lost for routing fail in distribution list

    hi
I read mails from external provider with a pop connector and write them in exchange 2010.
(message tracking: EventID : RECEIVE   Source: SMTP)
I wrote a wrong internal distribution list, so I got no mail delivered to the list
(message tracking: EventID : FAIL   Source: ROUTING)
anyway, exchange gave me a MessageID for every lost mail.
tracking goes back 30 days ('cause or retention period?)
    question is (you can imagine):
    - are the mails somewhere in server ?
    - as and administrator, can I retrieve them (by EMC, powershell, etc...)
    Thanks
    Roberto

    Hi Ed
    it's not in this way.
As i said in fist post, mails was "received" by exchange
in tracking tool i can see them as
EventID : RECEIVE   Source: SMTP , with the WRONG address, that caused the routing to fail.
on the SAME line in tracking tool, i anyway got a MessageID, so i imagine they are "somewhere" IN exchange...

  • Advance Rules for routing in Oracle BPM Human Task

    Hi,
I am working on SOA 11.1.1.5.0. I have created a sample SOA application with a Human Task.
following are the Assignment details for my Human Task.
    1. Created a stage1
    2. Created a participant with following details
    Type = Single
Build a list of participant using : ApproverGroup
    Specify attribute using : Rule-Based
    List Ruleset : SampleRuleset
I have created some Advance Rules for routing as specified at http://www.orastudy.com/oradoc/selfstu/fusion/integration.1111/e10224/bp_hwfmodel.htm#BABGJGBD .Routing is perfectly working in my application.
But when I login into WorklitApplication via weblogic user and accessed Administration link, under Task Configuration > Data Driven tab these Routing Rules are not appearing, however I can see this SampleRuleset there.
I want to know whether these Routing Rules will be appeared in the WorklistApplication or not?
    regards,

    Hi,
Concerning your first question the answer is yes, you can share the same UI with various Human Tasks. Assuming that your discriminator flag is the human task type, then you can create for example a taskflow parameter, pass this value and based on this value hide and show fields. You will have to bundle your UI project as an ADF shared library and attach it to each Human Task project that you would like to use it, drag and dropping the taskflow as a region (please have in mind that your taskflow pages definition should be set to fragments).
For you second question, again the answer is yes. This is an out-of-the-box functionality provided by the auto-generated human task. There is a section called history that holds and displays all this information.
For the third point, again the answer is yes. What you can do is that you can enable the OnTaskCompleted event so that whenever a participant complete their task to generate an event. Then you can have a mediator or a BPEL process that can subscribe to this event and process the notification.
For question 4 i don't think that is possible (out of the box). You will have to write like a proxy service that will fetch this additional information from your LDAP server and map it to your participants list.
Question 5, the organizational chart allows you to define the structure and hierarchy of your organization (users, groups, application roles) which can be used in your business processes to define your various approval types.
For you last question, the shared flag is used for to define whether your logical roles (also called application roles) should be specific to a process or can be shared across processes.

  • I have an ipad and just bought a second one for my daughter and she wants all my music on her ipad.  We both have our own itunes accounts and music match wont let me put music on hers. how do i get around this?

I have an ipad and just bought a second one for my daughter and she wants all my music on her ipad.  All the music is under my itunes account yet she has her own itunes account so she can have her own apps and purchase apps with gift cards (She's only 9)
I subscibe to music match under my account but it wont let me put my music on her ipad under hers or even my itunes account.  I get some sort of 90 day error message.  How do i get around this so I can let her have my music on her ipad?

iTunes Match is not sharable across Apple IDs. The best way to get the music on her iPad is to leave hers signed into her Apple ID on the iTunes Store and sync via USB.

How can i use my smart TV as a second monitor for my Power mac (2010) via HDMI cable? i've made the connection but no options show in system prefs display.
    the computer:Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.9.5), 2 x 2.66 Ghz 6-Core intel Xeon
    the TV: LG Smart tv

The Mac uses a highly-parameterized universal Driver for every display. The parameters are set at certain times when a query is sent to your display. The display MUST answer with its name and capabilities, or the screen stays dark. A TV set that is off or "not paying attention" because it is set to a different port when the query occurs will rarely answer, and so will often remain dark.
You can use tools in the System Report to see whether your display has been detected at all. If it has, the report will look something like this, but its name will appear:
The times when the query is sent are:
    • at Startup
    • at wake from sleep
    • when the Mac-end of the cable is inserted
    • when using the Option ( Detect Displays ) button in displays preferences

  • How to use an iMac as a second monitor for an iMac

I have two 21.5 inch iMac's (late 2009) and I want to use one as a second monitor for the other. I have a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort connector but when I connect it to both computers, nothing happens. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong once they're plugged in or if I have the wrong cable all together. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Not going to work, the ONLY 2009 / 2010 iMacs that supported Target Display Mode were the 27" models, 21.5" models simply will not work. Please read Apple FAQ on TDM and you will see I am correct.

While Neil is correct, Screen Recycler's performance is not that good so the user experience probably will not be worth it.

  • What is the most efficient way to use my 2006ish iMac as a second screen for my MacBook pro?

    Hello.
My line of work really requires the use of two screens, and I have a macbook pro from 2010 and a white iMac from 2006, I believe. My editing software lives on my laptop, so I'd like to use my iMac as the second display. I can't seem to find any male mini dvi to male mini displayport cables online, so I have a feeling they don't exist. Should I just get a mini dvi (male) to dvi (female) for the iMac and a (male) dvi to (male) mini displayport for the laptop? Is this going to cause latency if I'm running videos? Help please!

Your iMac (from 2006) does not support Target Display Mode, that functionality only became available in Late 2009 with MiniDisplay Port. Even if you were to find a male-to-male cable the iMac isn't going to accept the video from the MacBook Pro in a method you're hoping to achieve (extended desktop mode). I've use ScreenRecycler and the lag is barely noticeable, I think even calling it "lag" is overkill.
If you need a second monitor for work that is apparently an important accessory, why are they not supplying with a second monitor? Even if you were to find a valid connection solution, it's response time would still be slower than a direct link from the MacBook Pro.

  • Can I use My Ibook G4 as a Second Monitor For My Mac Mini G4

    Hi
I wonderd if theres any way of being able to use my 14'' Ibook G4 as a second monitor for my Mac Mini G4? I already have a Samsung SyncMaster 913n. Is there any way of doing this by firewire using both monitors, if not what cables would I need?
    Thanks

There is a application called Synergy which you may find useful. It allows the keyboard, mouse and clipboard to be shared across computers, and even different operating systems. It's not strictly what you have asked for as each computer still runs it's applications (and operating system) separately, meaning you can not drag windows between the screens, but by allowing you to copy and paste between the computers, and seamlessly slide your mouse and keyboard input between them you may get the effect you desire. Oh, and it is free and open-source, so why not give it a whirl?
You will need to connect the machines with a TCP/IP network, which can be done either with an ethernet patch cable, or alternatively as you suggest, using FireWire - these two articles may assist you in setting that up: IP over FireWire in Panther and Tiger.
As a point of note, a commercial program, MaxiVista allows exactly what you are looking for under Microsoft Windows.
    Hope that helps.
