Secure, Remote File Storage
I have a general architecture question that I wanted to pose
to everyone for feedback. I have an Extranet application based on
CF 6.1 Enterprise which is designed to provide basic document
management services by allowing people to upload and download
files. The application is designed with CF and IIS on the same
server, with a firewall, reverse proxy, etc. in front of the
server. I have a security concern with the application in that the
files that are uploaded are stored on the Extranet server. This was
originally done as it was the easiest solution and made the Verity
indexing of the document easy. However, I'd like to move the
documents off of the server for security reasons, but 1) still give
people the ability to upload and download docs through the Extranet
CD application and 2) still index the documents to allow user
searches. My question is how have others of you done similar stuff?
What is the best way to move the files (cfftp, mapped OS drive,
etc.)? Does indexing the files require a separate Verity K2
license? If I recall, Verity K2 is something like $65k, which
wouldn't be my first choice. Any thoughts?
Kim - thanks for the quick response. Indeed, I think that a
mapped drive is likely the easiest, quickest solution. I'm not
sure, however, how much additional security it affords if the
Extranet server was to become compromised. I suspect using FTP to
transfer the files may be more secure. What I'm wondering if there
are other ways (maybe more typical or more secure) and what can be
done to effectively index the documents for searchability without a
costly Verity K2 implementation. Perhaps FTP and Verity K2 is the
answer, but I'm interested in feedback from people that have
tackled this problem like you. Thanks again.

POA Losing Connection with Remote File Storage for Libraries
(Netware 6.5 SP8)(Groupwise 8.0.2 HP2)
Shortly after we installed Service Pack 2 users started reporting blank documents opening from the libraries. Couldn't see any errors occurring on logs or any server issues.
Running 4 separate libraries, largest has around 100,000 active documents.
Problem was fixed by restarting POA. Happens randomly everyday or every second day.
Have made no system changes or setting changes that might affect it. Have just applied HP2 hoping this would fix the issue, but to no avail.
Is anyone experiencing anything similar, any help appreciated.Check if the indexing is running well. Check the nightly logs.

I am not sure where I did the wrong thing.

To troubleshoot above error, please make sure the following things.
1. Use the RBS.msi file on this link http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=16978.
Do not download the rbs_x64 link given in TechNet article
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee748631.aspx .
2. Ensure that you run command prompt as administrator and then run your commands for RBS installation.
3. Follow the steps in this similar
blog to install RBS on SharePoint 2013.
However, if you still fail to install Remote Blob Storage, I would like to recommend you post the question in the SharePoint 2013 forum at
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=sharepointadmin . It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.
There is a similar thread for your reference.

Is there a way to reach remote files with KDE? [Solved, I hope]
I cant reach anything remote any longer. At first I noticed that Kate was unable to open remote files. But there is more, I cant even navigate on my own network. Before the update my network was almost as an internal disk and now its completely useless. The plasma 5 file navigator is a total joke. Network isn't even an option there, only local files.
Is there a fix to this or will there be updates with a solution? I have tried various tips and installed kio-xxx.
My current KDE version is 4.14.6.
Last edited by johane (2015-03-30 07:28:53)You wrote that you're on KDE4 in your first post. This would mean you currently have a mix of qt4 and qt5 apps running.
I know Kate was ported to qt5 already, as well as gwenview, not sure about others. Those won't be able to display the native dialog anymore, because they only include the latest version of the Qt dialog, while you need the older one.
I remember reading about Kate not being able to read from network files because it needs the qt5 version of the framework to do so.
The solution to get that and the native file dialogs would be to either
- update to kde5
- downgrade the affected apps to the last version which used qt4
Personally, I currently froze all my kde packages at their kde4 versions, because kde5 was running less that stable on my test machine. This is usually frowned upon, because you're missing out on any security/bug fixes the newer versions might contain.
But in case of kde5, I'd rather have a stable system that might or might not be vulnerable, than an unstable one.
Also, updating to kde5 actually reverses the problem from what I remember: you will get the native dialog for all apps already ported to kde5 and the generic one for all that have not yet been ported.

Sharepoint 2010 - how to move content database when RBS (remote blob storage) is enabled
Good day.
I have two Sharepoint Server 2010 instances - test and production.
i've turned on RBS(remote blob storage) on test. In future i want to copy content database from prod to test. What should i do, if RBS is not enabled on production?
And second question. After RBS is on, all new files moves to external storage. I want to move to ext storage files, that already exists in my content DB. I found that i need to create second filestreamprovider
and execute Migrate() for new provider. Can i do this for first provider without creating second? Why dont you plan to use Site backup then instead of database backup
In your case you will have to restore the backup to a RBS enabled SQL server. Then remove RBS from that database.

Can't download remote files with Adobe AIR
Hi all,
I have an adobe AIR application that tries to allow the user
to directly download a remote file. Here's the current code:
var fileRef:FileReference = new FileReference();
// Bunch of Event listeners here
var urlReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest("
http://www.randomfilehere.com/hello.txt");
fileRef.download(urlReq);
Now, when I try to download any random file, let's say
http://www.example.com/buca-di-beppo.gif,
I will get a OS-specific download box that asks me where to save
the file; I choose desktop and 'save' yet nothing happens (but when
I trace the HTTP response through Fiddler I get HTTP/1.1 200 OK,
and apparently all data has been successfully transferred to the
host machine, it just is not saved as a file.
A worse problem occurs with getting a file through HTTPS, as
in https://www.example.com/secure-image.gif. Air will try to
initiate approximately 3,940 http requests (plus or minus 3), that
all return 200 OKs, before eventually stalling (and sometimes
getting a 502).
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve these problems? The
AIR application is of course not a browser-based application so I
didn't think the cross-domain.xml would be applicable here (and if
it is, I don't know where to put it). Any help would be
GREATLY appreciated! Thanks very much for your time.Hi,

Trying to create file storage space on Azure
I want to create file storage space on azure.
I am using Powershell software with step by step example of tamram . Here is the url: azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/storage-dotnet-how-to-use-files
After you created a storage account you need to create the storage account context with the following command.
$ctx=New-AzureStorageContext blackboxvideo KbG/0me7bFo/30iAjnqvs9DqKOcpIdEjfdOWE0ID7WBXykyys+PrEiJ8GlcryLg7DfMhI 7/spw59fhoRtOfrmw==
Then the next step is to create file share with the following command:
$s =New-AzureStorageSharesampleshare
-Context$ctx
When I do this I get the following error:
New-AzureStorageShare : The remote name could not be resolved: 'blackboxvideo.file.core.windows.net'
At line:1 char:6
+ $s = New-AzureStorageShare sampleshare -Context $ctx
+ CategoryInfo
: CloseError: (:) [New-AzureStorageShare], StorageException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : StorageException,Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Commands.Storage.File.Cmdlet.NewAzureStorageShar
E
The file storage is activated on my profile. What am I doing wrong?
GerdusOk so 3 things, first, NEVER share your account name and private key out.
Second, go to the management interface (management.windowsazure.com), go to storage, go to this storage account and go into the manage access keys and regenerate this key (that resets it hopefully before someone has accessed it).
Third, open azure powershell and do a Get-AzureStorageAccount and check your urls and settings for the storage account.make sure your endpoints are correct. -
MBSA 2.2 Cannot load security CAB file
Hello everyone!
I'm trying to run MBSA 2.2 with the following command but it ends with "Cannot load security CAB file" error in Windows 7 client. Windows XP works fine:
@ECHO OFF
mkdir %windir%\temp\mbsa\
copy mbsa %windir%\temp\mbsa\
%windir%\temp\mbsa\mbsacli.exe /xmlout /wi /nvc /nd /catalog %windir%\temp\mbsa\wsusscn2.cab >>
\\fileshare\MBSA_Reportsssssss.xml
rmdir /s /q %windir%\temp\mbsa\
MBSA folder includes all the needed files: mbsacli.exe, wsusscn02.cab & wusscan.dll. Remote Registry, Server, Windows Update & Workstation services are running + File and Printer Sharing service is enabled. This is a fresh Win7 install
with the latest Windows Update Agent.
If I run the command line without the variables (mbsacli.exe /xmlout /wi /nvc /nd /catalog wsusscn2.cab >> MBSA_Reportsssssss.xml) in the correct folder I get that same error. I've also deleted & re-downloaded/copied the cab file
just in case if it got corrupted during the first copy.
Are there any other requirements in Win7 to get this work locally with mbsacli.exe?
Thanks! Can you explain how you fixed your user rights to get access? I keep getting access denied when I run this simple script even as a DA
mbsacli /listfile <D:\wsus>\Servers.txt /n os+iis+sql+password -
What is the command for secure remote copy ?
What is the command for sucure remote copy ?
The remote copy is rcp, but it is not secure or is it?Andy of course is spot on.
scp -p /my/local/file [email protected]:/otherpath/to/remote/file
Will use ssh to securely copy a file if ssh is enabled on the remote "othermac"
rsync -e ssh is much more powerful, but in many cases scp is the best due to simplicity. -
Installing Remote Blob Storage (RBS) Provider on Active/Passive cluster
We are implementing RBS for our SharePoint farm and have successfully got it installed and working for all Content Databases.
I've read a dozen or so guides but none of them cover installing on a clustered SQL environment and I need to install the RBS provider on the passive node but cant see any guides that mention it although its stated Clustering is supported.
Can anyone tell the correct way to install it on the passive node?Hi Dr_Sanchez,
According to
this blog, it is supported to install remote blob storage provider on SQL Server active passive cluster. You could follow the installation steps in that blog. If you get an error like this:
Cannot use file 'c:\Blobstore' for clustered server. Only formatted files on which the cluster resource of the server has a dependency can be used. Either the disk resource containing the file is not present in the cluster group or the cluster resource of
the Sql Server does not have a dependency on it.
Then please replace 'c:\Blobstore' with the volume\directory which resides in the same group in the Cluster Administrator as the SQL Server resources.

Michelle Li

Not Working: BlackBerry Link Remote File Access Remove Old BlackBerry from BB ID
I have: removed my blackberry q10 from blackberry link, wiped my q10, uninstalled and reinstalled blackberry link, have link version 1.1.1.32, blackberry q10 os version 10.1.0.2309 - which whenever I plug in the q10 after removing the device from link, says there is an os update, so I update it, and then it does nothing apart from rebooting the q10, or gives an error saying 'updates not available. Please check internet connection and retry.'.
Also, I have Logout/login on blackberry link, I know my q10 is activated as I have purchased items from app world, and on the computer the app world site shows that I have a q10 when I sign in. I am using the same BBID and have changed the password on my q10 to see if that made a difference, then signed out and back into link on computer with updated password. I have administrator rights on my computer.
I can access the q10 from my computer over the same wifi network, and it syncs files fine with wireless sync turned on. It is remote file access not giving the option to connect to my q10. 'BBID *email* isn't associated with a device running Blackberry 10 OS or an error occurred when trying to retrieve your information from the Blackberry ID servers.'
The problem is that although I have the same blackberry id for link and my q10, no devices show up on the remote file access screen, and I cannot access my files on my computer from my q10, yet I can sync them on my computer over the wifi network. How can I enable Remote File Access?
A problem could be that I have a Curve 9300 on my BB ID account, so if I could disable this (which I have no idea how to do after a lot of research), this might rectify why link cannot set up remote file access.
What I haven't done is wiped my q10 and uninstalled all user data from link at the same time, as then I would have to manually reload everything on my q10.
My q10 shows my computer in the settings\blackberry link\paired devices , but I 'cannot view files on *computer*'. Also, link does not show in the file manager. I set up my q10 as a permanent link not a one-off connection. No one cares because it's not a z10 (I know because I am having the same problem and no one knows how to fix it and no threads for q10 fix)

Error reading Remote file when the connection is slow
I have a program that reads a file from a remote server. The file is an xml file.
This uses URL inputstream.
This works just fine but when the xml that it reads grow in size, the content of the file is not completely sent to the variable string.
I have come to a conclusion that slow connection to the server could somehow cause this. The error is intermittent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I hope you guys could help me tune this code or if you have suggestions like other ways to read a remote file. Which will work even if the file grows bigger.
Thanks
public String readRemoteFile(String fName)

Hi
I have an uploading problem to the server. The problem is when I try to upload a file it goes through the correct proceedure,
but does not change the remote file i.e.Index.htm, or three stages1.htm.
My Localroot folder is C:\Gods Plan Web\
The site map layout is C:\Gods Plan Web\Index.htm
The folder for the remote site is /public_html/
Should the local root folder mirror the remote site, i.e./public_html/
if this is so, what should I put into the
(a) Local Root Folder box?
(b) site map layout box?
The FTP is performing well other than changing the intended file. You should be uploading only the contents of your local root to the public_html folder (remote root).
The index.html you use as your site's home page needs to be in your site root. If you look at your Files window in DW, you should have something like the following...
Site - Whatever you named your site
index.html
images
pages
page1.html
page2.html
If you have any folder between Site - and the index.html page, like...
Site - Whatever you named your site
mywebsite
index.html
It will upload to the public_html while still in that folder, so to find your page online, you would need to type something like...
www.mydomain.com/mywebsite
public_html should NOT appear within your local files and if it existed there, would cause a redundancy if uploaded. You would need to type www.yourdomain.com/public_html to see the uploaded pages.
If you could post a screen shot of your expanded Files window while connected to the server (just connect and click the Expand button in Files, don't drill down into any of the directories), we may be able to see the issue.
