Security for subject area in obiee 11.1.1.6

Hi every one,
I have installed obiee 11.1.1.6 and applied the patches 13794002,13884769,13887566,13892934,13916045,13926409,13932572
Here the problem is when i am setting permission as denied to r subject areas for users, still they are able to view that subject area and able to fetch data.
For rest of the components security is working fine. But for subject areas it is not working as expected.
Do anyone else faced this problem or is there any other patch i need to apply to overcome this.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Devarasu,
Thanks for your reply.
I have waited for 3 hours and even restarted the obiee services.
But even then users who are denied with permission for some subject areas can able to access them.
Thanks you very much.

What's speciel about Financial, CRM subject areas in OBIEE? Isn't it just a bunch of tables with financial or crm data joined in their own ways?

There is a link to the Data Model Reference page in the OBIA documentation. You need a Metalink3 account.

  • Security on Subject Areas

    All,
I've seen a direct way to limit access on Sub Areas in the RPD....but is there a way to do this making use of external tables to set up security?
Or do you always have to create the groups in the rpd as well and limit access to Sub Areas that way?
    Txs for your help!
    Kr,
    A

If you want to make things easy then just follow the following rules:
    For subject areas:
    1) Create one group for each subject area in the security manager of the repository.
    2) Assign explicit access for the group on the subject area in the presentation layer of the repository.
    3) Set up a table which holds the relation between users and groups.
    4) Use the GROUP session variable to assign users to groups, by using an external table.
    For dashboards:
    1) Create one webgroup for every dashboard in the Manage Presention Catalog on the Presentation server.
    2) Assign explicit access for that webgroup on the dashboard.
    3) Set up (another) table which holds the relation between users and webgroups.
    4) Use the WEBGROUPS session variable to assign users to the webgroups.
In this case you have divided your security between subject areas and dashboards, but still both types of security can be maintained in external tables.

  • Creating subject area in OBIEE 11.1.1

    Hi,
Could anybody tell me which tools I have to use in order to create a subject area for using it in the OBIEE 11.1.1 ?
I have searched a little bit through the Internet & Oracle documentations and it looks like I could use Oracle Essbase, Oracle Datawarehouse Builder and Datawarehouse Admin Console (using the Informatica PowerCenter Server) ... it looks very difficult to me ...
    Thanks.

I think my problem would be fixed if I can get Oracle Business Intelligence Administration Tool running.
Could you tell me from where I could download Oracle Business Intelligence Administration Tool ? I didn't find it for OBIEE 11.1.1 :(
    Thanks.

    Sohail,
Check out the catalogue manager reports :

If you want this kind of thing automated, I personally am very fond of the ODI -> OBIEE Data lineage solution as provided in Oracle By Example tutorials :

  • Joining two fact tables for subject area

When I tried to use two simple fact tables joined by a dimension, I am getting the “ No fact table exists at the requested level of detail” error in the answer when I try to pull the columns from Fact 1 and Fact 2 tables. I have set the content in both the fact table to lowest granularity of dimension with CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID keys. We have one to many relationships between dimension and both the fact tables. Any feedback is highly cherished.
    Fact1: keys are: CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID, YEAR
    Fields are CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID, YEAR , Rev1, Transaction Date
    Fact2: keys are: CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID, YEAR
    Fields are CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID, YEAR , Rev2, CreationDate
    Dimension keys are CUST_ID, RAT_ID, ACT_ID

    Hi LC,
We have to add two fact tables F1 AND F2 to an existing bmm. These fact tables have history tables F11 AND F22 and we have to use partition logic for this. How you did partition ? you should be using Fragmentation logic for that any how you will add the F11/F22 tables to F1 and F2 LTS , so when you join F1 & F2 to the common dimension then it should work for the calucluated measures but dont forgot to create hierarchies and specify the content levels for the fact tables

  • Subject area security validating users and groups from external table

    Hi all.
I don't have practice to put question here, but there is one problem, that seems don't work correctly in OBIEE.
I'm trying to put users in groups within external table and this works fine.
I put security on the subject area level like this:
SA1 -> GroupA allow, Everyone not allow
SA2 -> GroupB allow, Everyone not allow
    External table:
    User----------Group
    A---------GroupA;GroupB
    B---------GroupB
Users A, B and GroupA, GroupB exists in the RPD, but I didn't put users inside them, I want this from table.
From the init block, external table I'm taking users and join them in the group. Same name users and groups are also in the presentation service.
When i connect with user A i don't see any subject area, when go to My Account i see in Group Membership/GroupA and GroupB, so it's readed from the external table.
Why in this case the subject area permission is not working?
It works if I explicitly put users in groups, in the RPD.
I have read this blog entry http://kpipartners.blogspot.com/2009/07/groups-webgroups-and-delivers.html and it is said that this works, but I'm interested how.
What should we have in the presentation part, administration, Manage Privileges -> Access within Oracle BI Answers option for those two subject area?
This doesn't work or something is missing:

What should we have in the presentation part, administration, Manage Privileges -> Access within Oracle BI Answers option for those two subject area?Yes, you should remove Everyone and add the relevant groups to each Subject Area. You don't need to set privileges in the RPD, in fact that's probably why it doesn't work for you. Leave your RPD Presentation Catalog as "Everyone" = Read as you will controlling access from the Presentation Services and it should work.

  • Cross subject area analysis in OBIEE 11 RPD

    Hi,
Its same as 10g, but when applying filters, you can hide or unhide the filters.

  • 11g-Multiple subject area feature.

    Hi,
I am new to 11g,In 11g we have anew feature like creating Analysis from multiple subject areas so,
1)Is there any limitation on this Multiple subject areas usage.
2)any configuration or settings needs to be done in RPD for querying related subject areas..
3)what is the limit of using this subject areas.. maximum from How many SA we can build a report..
any other limitation for this feature...
    please share your thoughts.

  • How to create Analysis from two different subject areas with diff models

    Hello,
I have problem with create analysis from two different areas with two different models (Model Star and Snowflakes) build in BI Admin tools.
First Model A = Subject Area A have one fact tables (with measures) and three dimensions tables (Model Star)
Second Model B = Subject Area B have one fact table (no measures) and five dimensions tables (Model Snowflakes).
I'm looking solutions how I can give good results. In this case I can't use UNION, INTERSECT etc., because this models haven't the same number column and data type?
whether it is possible to do in OBIEE?
    Please help me
    Kind regard
    robix

    Hi
One thing to understand is that if your are imagining having two Subject Areas (SAs) displayed and then dragging columns from each into your Request without any preparation, then no, that can't be done. You would need to do a join in the BMM layer and expose the column from the second Subject Area in the presentation layer.
But if you indeed interested in UNION (or intersect) queries, then do this:
Build your first query in the first SA in the usual manner. Note the number of columns and the data types of each column.
Now at the bottom of the Criteria workspace, there is a button called "Combine with similar request." Click it.
Select your second SA. You will note that the outlines of the columns in your first query appear. This is to remind you that the number of columns in this second query must be the same as in the first. It also shows the data type of each column for the same reason.
Once you select your columns and your filters, click on result. (Oh, you will also need to decide what kind of combination you want -- click on the dropdown.) The result will be a new Request that has data from both SAs in the query and combined in the manner you select (union, intersect, etc.)
That should give you a start.

    Award Points it is useful.

  • Not able to see all the subject areas with BI Author and BI Consumer roes

    Hi All,
Recently we have upgraded to OBIEE 11G and we have created new users and assigned groups in the new 11G.
Generally users sholud be able to see all the dashboards and subject areas with the default BI Author and BI Consumer roles.
But in our 11G system users cannot see all the subject areas with the above groups, only if we give the BI Administrator role the they can see all the subject areas and dashboards.
We cannot give BI Administrator role to all the users....Please advise.
    Thanks
    Praveen.

    Hi,
Check the application roles of BI Author and BI Consumer, they must be having BI Author and Consumer Groups. Check the privileges for Users and Application roles in Catalog manager for Dashboards and Check the Permissions for Users and Application in RPD for subject areas. Make necessary changes, restart BI server and Presentation services. Now users should be able to see  dashboards and subject areas,
    If it helped mark Helpful/Correct

  • Configure Subject Areas

How do I configure multiple subject areas in OBIEE 11G?
    Thanks,
    Akshatha

    Hi,
You said u r using obiee11g version right, in this if u want to change the RPD,Catalog you need to delpoyee via weblogic Enterprise Manager.
refer the below link for deployeeing.
    http://obiee101.blogspot.com/2010/08/obiee11g-deploying-new-rpd.html
    second think,
better to keep mulitple subject area in the same RPD. if you have mulitple RPD first merg it everything into Single RPD then it should work.
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/bi/bi11115/import_merge/merging_importing_11g.htm
