Security switch needs to be admin'ed

Not sure if this is an old question, but here goes. under System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General Tab "Require password for sleep and screen saver", shouldn't this be under the control of the administrator? It seems that all users have access to the state of this switch.
Thanks

And have the admin have to come over each time the screen saver was activated?
The screen saver kicks in despite a user being logged in, so if one runs off and leaves their machine unattended the screensaver can lock it without logging out and deleting active files.

  • Deski Cache Server Security switch

    Hi;
I would like to know if there a security switch for Deski cache Server as it exists for CR Cache Server. We have problem with delay in right change in Deski. A similar case has been identified, and the solution was to add the (-securityCacheTimeOut 0) switch to the start command line of CR Cache Server and that has helped resolving the problem. I am asking if there is a similar switch for Deski Cache Server.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi!
First of all you can enable security constraints for +/mapviewer/*+ pages in you app server.

  • Game server, home network, SD2005 switch, need to add wireless...

OK, I have my cable modem going directly to game server (PC running windows xp as game host), PC has 2 NIC's. Second NIC goes to SD2005 switch to 2 home gaming PC's, printer, playstation 3. Goal was to have gaming server direct access to internet.... Allow our PC's to access games without going outside intranet.  How do I hook up WRT310N to the sd2005 and then run the Printer, Playstation3 off the WRT310N???   Or am I making this way to complicated???lol
I also have a ethernet hookup for a workbench too that I swap out connections on the SD2005 for repairing PC's...
    So, In a nutshell
    PC gaming host
    2 gaming PC's
    Ethernet printer
    Ethernet Playstation3
    Ethernet connection to workbench
Need to add the WRT310N v2 to get wireless
Need gigabit access to internet for all but printer & Playstation
    Have SD2005 gigabit switch
1 gaming PC needs access to website host for FTP without all the security problems (which has been a pain with Vista)
SO, WHAT WOULD YOU DO.... I know just enough to make a mess...lol

As you want the game server directly connected to your internet connection it must operate as your internet gateway for all other devices. For that, you have to enable ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the game server. Use the Windows wizard to set it up. Share the internet netconnection from the 1st NIC to the LAN on the 2nd NIC. Of course, with this kind of setup your game server must be up and running whenever you want to use your LAN.
Your game server will use static IP 192.168.0.1 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 on the 2nd NIC and provides DHCP.
Now connect the SD2005 to the 2nd NIC. Wire another computer to the SD2005 and it should get an IP address 192.168.0.* and should have internet through the game server.
Set up the WRT as simple wireless access point. Wire a computer to a LAN port of the WRT. Open the web interface http://192.168.1.1/ Now change the LAN IP address of the WRT from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.254 and turn off the DHCP server. Save settings. You'll loose the connection. Unplug the computer. Now wire one of the LAN ports of the WRT to the SD2005. Do not use the internet port of the WRT!
That's it. Don't forget to configure the wireless on the WRT through the web interface now at http://192.168.0.254/
Your LAN computers can access the game server directly on the LAN IP address 192.168.0.1 or through its public IP address.

  • Estimating Security Resources Needed for Support Organization

    Hi Gurus,
As our implementation winds down, I've been tasked with the pleasure of defining the security resource requirements needed for the future state support organization.
Some high level details of the environment:
-ECC 6.0, SCM SNC 7.1, BI, XI/PI; expected to be approximately 10 instances in stable environment between DEV, Q, Prod
    -10000 users
-100 business roles; 1000 single roles
-Custom security for one area that will require incremental additions of sales group/sales office across the BI, SNC and ECC systems in the roles (not too often)
    -90 day password reset enforcement
    -Manual access request forms
    -Use of SPM and RAR
I've done some searches and found a fair amount of forum postings, but I'm seeing all types of different responses.  While I understand it can vary, I am curious if any of you have (from your experience) developed a helpful equation that can help us deteremine whether 2, 3 or 10 resources are needed.
Please let me know if there is any more context I can provide.  If you are aware of another thread that already discusses this, please let me know.  Thanks in advance.
    Sincerely,
    Chris

Depending on your frequency of role changes, user changes I would expect a team of 3 (2 reasonably strong + 1 admin) to be able to comfortably manage that landscape with some capacity for performing additional project support work & holiday cover.
If you have low complexity/change then there is no reason why 1 or 2 people would not be able to cover the admin side once the solution is mature.
Unfortunately no equation for it but based on what I see clients operating effectively over the last few years.  Automation (position based assignment, use of CUP etc) can help reduce the administrative workload.
If you have metrics for expected user and role changes (difficult to come up with at the end of an implementation) then you can be more scientific about it.  There are many variables that have a material impact on the support requirements.
All the consultancies & out sourcers have models that they use for this.  Usually I find them to be a bit generous on the resource side as they have to provide contingency for the unknown stuff.  One of my clients has out sourced some admin tasks and the out sourcing firm applied their metrics to it and fell quite short due to the complexity of it.  This isn't a criticism of those firms, rather that even these companies who do this stuff for a living can miss many things.

  • Can anyone help.  For security reasons I reset my admin password on my Macbook Pro a few days ago and didn't write it down.  Now I've forgotten it.  I didnt receive an installation disc when I purchased my Macbook Pro online - it didn't come with one-help

Please see question above, but also note, I have the Applecare Protection Plan but am unable to get through to anyone on a weekend and I desperately need to use my laptop this weekend.  I can't log in at all now as I've forgotten my admin password.  A few weeks ago I also changed the password on my husband's new MacBook Pro and again forgot the password.  I spoke to someone at Apple and they helped me to reset it within minutes, by restarting the computer holding Command+something else (I can't remember what it was). A black screen with writing came up and I had to type in something like "password" (not sure exactly).  Anyway, this was a very quick and efficient process but I didn't write it down unfortunately.  Does anyone out there know what to do?  Thanks in anticipation

  • Can't start laptop - problems with automatic repair, need acces to admin account but there is none. HELP! :(

    Hello,
I'm having problems with my windows 8 laptop.
This afternoon I shut it down, and went to work. A few hours later when I came back home I noticed the little blue lights on the keyboard (showing me that the pc was charging and that my wifi is on) were still on. Normally these are off when the pc is turned
    off.
I tried starting the laptop but nothing happened, the screen stayed black. I held down the 'on' button to force it to turn off, and turned it on again.
I then got a textmessage on the startup loading screen that there were problems with my C drive (only drive the laptop has), so it went to automatic repair.
*my laptop's language is set to Dutch so I'm translating everything :)*
    It gave me 2 options:
    1: Restart computer
    2: Advanced options.
I tried option 1, didnt work ofcourse, it just restarted and I got back to this screen, so I checked what option 2 had to offer.
I got to a screen with 3 options:
    1: Continue to windows 8
    2: Solve Problems
    3: Shut down
When I tried option 1 the computer just restarted and went back to the same screen.
When I tried option 3 it shut down as it should.
Option 2 gave me 3 other options:
    1: Renew PC
    2: Factory reset
    3: advanced options
Option 1 just restarted my pc and took me back to screen 1.
Option 2 I havent tried yet, because it erases all of my files. This is a last resort.
Option 3 gave me 6 other options:
    1: Systemrepair
    2: Repair with installationcopy
    3: Startuprepair
    4: CMD
    5: UEFI firmware settings
    6. Startupsettings.
I can't use option 1,2,3,4 because I need to log in to an administratoraccount.
The bad part is: the laptop doesn't have an administratoraccount.
It was my parents laptop, and theyve set it up. I always assumed the account was an admin because
I had acces to everything and didn't need a password to run things as admin and such.
    Turns out it isn't.
I get this message (translated) when I try to acces one of these:
'You have to log in as administrator to continue, but this pc doesn't have an administratoraccount'.
I can't believe microsoft added a check to see if the pc has an admin account on it, and even added a specific message to show when it doesn't, but they didnt add the option to just use these tools when there is no admin account present? What were they thinking!
Option 5 I havent tried yet, when I click it it says I have to restart to acces these settings, but I dont want to mess with something I know nothing about.
Option 6 gives me a few options like run the pc in safety mode, run windows repair and disable auto-restart after something has gone wrong with windows. But when I select one of these options it doesnt work. It just takes me back to auto repair. It just doesn't
    doe anything.
There are no other options. Nothing I can do. My pc is stuck like this. The only thing I *might* be able to do is a factory reset, but I havent tried, and that could also just give me an error about me not being admin.
Some backstory of what I think caused this problem:
I believe the problems started a week ago, last friday.
I'm using a program called 'AVG TuneUp'. This program gave me a message telling me it was 3 months since it had checked my C drive for defects or anything. And it asked me if I wanted it to do so. Unknowing of the problems that would follow, I pressed 'ok'
    (or whatever it was).
I had to restart my pc for it to begin, because it could only check the drive during startup. It went to 12% and stayed there for like half an hour, after which I decided to google (on my phone) if that was normal. It turned out that that option doesn't work
well with windows 8 and that lots of people's computers got ruined after using it. I stressed and I tried to shut it down, but since I was still in startup the only thing I could do was force the pc to shut down, so I held down the power button and it shut
down. I restarted and managed to abort the proces. The laptop started fine and everything worked.
A few days later a game/program I use called League of Legends started to act weird, because I could not log in on my account (for the game) anymore. Some error with IE settings, which I was unable to fix. For more info about that go to http://boards.eune.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/help-support-en/8Eoz315J-cant-log-in-to-lol-and-cant-log-in-to-steam-either-weird-coincidence.
Although I doubt it will help.
That forum post also contains a link to a post I made on the Steam forum about not being able to log into steam anymore. (Steam is another program I used). I wasn't able to log into steam anymore about 1-2 days after I wasn't able to log into LoL.
Also at the same time my Norton sortof stopped working. It showed up as active in my task manager and AVG TuneUp program manager, but it wasn't in my task bar and I couldnt acces the control panel.
Then yesterday I checked my pc for errors with AVG TuneUp's 1-click maintenance tool, and it told me my C drive was fragmented badly, so I defragmented it using the tool. Laptop still worked fine after that.
And then today I got the error on startup about my C drive having errors.
Long story shot: Problem is probably caused because I stopped the repair of my C drive with the avg tuneup tool before it was done, however its weird that I'm only experiencing (big) problems a week after that happened.
    Hardware info:
It's a Samsung Ativ book 6  (google it for all the specs :) )
    RAM: 8 GB DDR3
    CPU: intel 3230M @ 2.60 gHz
    GPU: AMD Radeon HD 8850M
HDD: 1 TB S-ATAII hard disc
    I've found this page:

But I don't really understand what the answering person is saying, and my laptop doesn't have a CD drive..
I really, REALLY hope someone can help me with this, because my laptop is basically 100% 'destroyed'.
    Kind regards,
    Christian Collaert

    Hello,
Perhaps the operating system is incorrectly powering down or shifting the wireless adapter to a low power state in order to improve run time while on battery?
Try going into the Device Manager (filename: DEVMGMT.MSC), locate the wireless adapter under the Network Adapters tree, view its Properties, and on the Power Management tab, disable (un-check) the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option.
Please let us know if that makes any difference (or not).

  • To many security approvals need to use my Google maps! (Running KitKat)

Now that my Verizon S3 phone has been updated to KitKat the number of security boilerplate approvals needed to use anything related to maps or GPS is unacceptable.
I can't leave the GPS on as it drains that battery. So here is the problem:  I'm driving along and I need to see my maps, before I would just hit the map button and I would see the map in the approximate area, no GPS required.  Now when I do the same, I get a box for settings, I click on that and it sends me to a Location page where I need to turn on the GPS, now I need to Agree that I have turned on the GPS, now I get another box to Agree that Google apps are collecting my location info, at this point I need back step out to the map app to see where I'm at.
Most users of the maps app will use it while driving (even if you don't think it's a good idea).  I don't think going from 1 step to 5 is making the situation any safer, it's now takes many more seconds of not looking at the road to getting the app working then it had before.
If you have a fix for this, that would be great!

Thanks for it, I was too looking for the hello world example
of using externalInterface to load a Google Map into Flash using
AS2, I had asked this question many here, but did not get proper
answer, when I had googled I had got this page, I got the answer.
Thanks again & hope I will get more info from this forum.

  • Help needed restricting users admin access to devices using ACS 4.2

I have users that access the network via a VPN client to a PIX 515 which authenticates to the ACS (using the default group for unknown users) which uses an external Active Directory Database.
The problem I have is that as the ACS authenticates these users, it now allows them admin access to the PIX. How do I restrict access? I have looked at NARs using the 'All AAA clients, *, *' approach but that just stops their VPN access. ( I have a separate group called 'PIX ACCESS' which will contained only defined users for admin access).
Incidentally I have other devices on the network which are AAA clients, in particular Nortel switches. I can set the group settings for that RADIUS set up to 'Authenticate Only' (RADIUS Nortel option) and that works fine, I was expecting the ACS to have a similar setting for TACACS+.
So how do I allow the unknown users to authenticate to their AD database but restrict them admin access to the AAA clients?

Very common problem. I've solved it twice over the last 6 years with ACS. I'm sketchy on the details. But here goes. First option to explore is using RADIUS for VPN access, then TACACS on all the Cisco switches and PIX firewall. That would make it alot easier. I think that with TACACS, you can build a NAR based on TCP port number instead of IP address....
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2086/products_tech_note09186a0080858d3c.shtml
So you'd have a group with 3-4 Administrators that can access PIX CLI, and another group of VPN users that can't access the PIX but can VPN in. So on the VPN group, put a NAR that restricts access to SSH/Telnet TCP ports?
This comes up everytime I install an ACS server, (every 2-3 years), and it's always a trick.
Please let me know if this works for you. And if it doesn't, let us know how you fixed it. I think I can get back into the ACS I last did this with and take a look, but I'd have to call up and make a special trip.
