Security Update 2012-002 Does not install

Every time I go to download this update I always get an error.  It downloads but then upon restart it bombs saying it cannot expand or there is a corruption of the files.
I have repaired permissions, I have updated the Safari update and remote desktop just fine.  Just this doesn't work.  I've also deleted the software.update pref file as suggested in other articles.  All to no avail.

10.5.5 is very antiquated.  10.5.8 as you read was just barely patched in the last week, and hasn't seen patches since before last July, where several patches for 10.6 have already been made available.  Remember 10.7.4 is the current operating system.    Last July was when 10.7 was released.  The only reason you should have 10.5.5 is because you don't need anything newer, or you aren't sure that anything newer will work with what you have, or can't afford anything newer.  Only 16% of the Macintosh community are running some version of 10.5.  To determine if you could use an upgrade, see these tips:

  • Security Update 2012-002 Won't Install

I have been attempting for some time now to install the latest Security Update 2012-002 on my Macbook Pro running OSX v.10.6.8.
Upon restart as the computer is about to fully boot up it simply shuts off. I have run Apple Disk Utility as well as MacTuneUp several times.
The machine seems to be in fine working condition and accepts all other software updates except this one.
Any suggestions or fixes out there?

    Hi Jonathan:
What's your hard drive capacity like? You should try to maintain at least 1-2 GB free.
Also, how long have you had 512MB RAM? Have you recently upgraded? Poor-quality RAM could affect software updates. If this applies, remove any recently installed RAM and try the update. If successful, replace the RAM (though I'd get the RAM replaced).

  • Security Update 2012-001 Will Not Install

When I try runnng Software Update to install Security Update 2012-001 I get "An unexpected error has occured." at the end of the installation process.  I tried downloading the standalone installer but that fails too.
    Any ideas?

Tried the above suggestions and none of them worked.
I tried an re-install of 10.6 from my system disk and upgrading that.  The combo update fails too.
I tried wiping the partition and doing a complete restore from a Time Machine backup.  Still same error.
When I have time I could try wiping the parition, reinstalling 10.6 and using Migration Assistant instead of a straight restore.
One more thing.  I installed a Boot Camp partition about a month ago.  Could that have something to do with this?
    Thanks.
Possible some  corruption occured to the MBR section of your GPT,  boot sector virus on Windows?
Bad Bootcamp updated the GPT wrong perhaps?
Could be OS X on TM is hosed too, can't trust that then.
Fresh install it is then, cures all ills. Follow on.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk, use Disk Utility there to select your entire internal drive on the far left (you got backups right? because all is going bye bye including Windows)
Next chose Erase and Security option Zero All Data, come back after lunch. this will check the drive really good for bad bits/sectors, takes a bit of time though.
Next chose Partiton and Option: GUID, format OS X Extended (J) and give it the same name, click apply. This will rebuilt the GPT in case it was corrupted.
Install 10.6, reboot and update to 10.6.8., c boot off the 10.6 disk and Repair Disk just in case.
Prefereably you should clone your pristine 10.6.8 install first to a blank external drive, you can always option boot off of it.
    http://www.bombich.com/get_ready_for_lion.html
You can then  try restore from TM or just go ahead and install programs from fresh sources and just use Migration Assistant to bring your user back.
If your problems continue after migration assistant, then option boot and reverse clone. how to cherry pick your files off a corrupt TM drive is no easy matter, may need DataRescue $99.
Far as cloning Windows bootcamp later when you reinstall it, you need the free WinClone on Macupdate.com.
you should be fully armed now.
    Good Luck.

  • Download notification for Security Update 2014-002 does not go away after update

I have downloaded the Security Update 2014-002 4 times tonight, it shows up in the downloaded and installed list, but it still is showing up as an update ready to download. I restarted my machine each time, but it still is showing up in the update notifications. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    George

Go to the command line of the appliacne and run "version"
That will show you the current version of the firmware.
If you have record of what was there, you can compare...
Otherwise contact TAC, they can verify that you have the up-to-date version and pull your serial from the distribution list so you don't see it any more.

  • Security update 2011 002 does not appear for Mac Mini

    Hi,
the latest security update will not appear on my Mac Mini. Does anybody know this issue?
    Thanks
    Oliver

    Hi Oliver,
Try to reset the local cache of the softwareupdateservice by going to:
    /Users/yourUserName/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/
Delete the contents of that folder and check softwareupdate again.
Perhaps that cache.db has become corrupted.
    Goodluck!

    Allan,
I have Avast virus checker installed, but I disabled file, mail & web browser checking and had the same problem.
I eventually was able to download the manual update DMG and that seems to have installed ok.
Now the Update RAW 6.03 has been installed, but continues to say it needs installing - galling.
Thanks to you and Linc for replying to my original post.

  • Security Update 2007 006 will not install!

I downloaded the newly released Security update (Intel) and tried to install it on my 24" Intel iMac. I was immediately informed that my volume "does not meet the requirements for this update" and it refused to go farther.
Has anyone an idea what is going on here?
    Griff

Here is what worked for me.
Run Safari 3.0 installer and choose uninstall. Then, after a restart, either use the Apple software program in Tiger or download the updater for your machine. Either should install.
Evidently, the Safari installer had already put the fix on my computer, but since I have a lot of time to kill, this gave me the peace of mind that the whole fix is installed.
Then you can reinstal Safari Beta, if you really want it.
Personally I am going to wait until Fall and get 10.5.

  • HT204413 Security Update 2015-002 1.0 install hangs.

An attempt to install Security Update 2015-002 1.0 reproducible hangs for me. The machine reboots, installation starts, quickly goes to "Less than a minute" and then sits there forever. I tried this multiple times, once left it in this state for 8 hours.

Try insstalling the update via Sae Mode

  • Security update 2014-002 won't install, stuck on gray Software update screen

My mac mini has been trying to install this security update the past week.  It asks for me to restart, when I do it gets stuck on a Software Updater page or gray screen.  The only way I can proceed is the shut the computer down by manually holding down the power button.  When I restart it shows the update not applied.
I've tried downloading the update directly and applying and no difference.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

The worst of these background programs, MacKeeper requires you remove it with third party instructions:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3036
You should not use cache cleaners on any system other than a backed up system.
You should not multitask while attempting to back your data.
Open the Activity Viewer to determine what other processes may be running and determine if one of those is one you recognize that is third party.
Antivirus and firewall software are not essential, unless you practice unsafe computing in the first place.  In those instances ClamAV and Sophos are probably the best bets about being the least intrusive.

  • Security Update 2007-009 will not install

I ran the Software Update utility and found Security Update 2007-009. When I tried to install it, it gave me the following error message:
The update "Security Update 2007-009" can't be saved.
You do not have appropriate access privileges.
The Installer package has been moved to the Trash.
To try again, open the package from the Finder.
I am logged in as an Administrator level user, and I tried to re-run the updater, but got the same result. This also happened on my MacBook.
Anyone else having this error? Any resolutions?

    Which version? 1.0 or 1.1??
    It may already be installed.
Go to Software Updates in SysPrefs and check the list of installed updates.

  • Security Update 2008-003 Intel not installing

I installed MacOS 10.5.3 update successully but the security update2008-003 did not work. I downloaded the intel update and it starts ok until the HD chosen to be installed apperars. Even the Macintosh HD apperas with the red and X circle. What could have happened? Is there an error with the installer?

Security Update 2008-003 is included in 10.5.3. If you have 10.5.3 installed then you have all the contents of the 2008-003 security update already.

  • HT1222 Why has Apple not either removed Security Update 2012-002 or updated it?

It hosed my iMac and a Mac Mini; kernal panic on the first, freeze on startup on the second. iMac is a 2 ghz Core 2 Duo, the Mac Mini a 1.83 ghz Core 2 Duo. I get tired of getting notices to update when I know my system will be brought to its knees if I do.

It had no such effect on mine. There are always some problems with updates that hit some users randomly. And sometimes Apple really screws up, but I don't remember hearing too much about this one here. Seemed, for the most part, rather problem free.
See my recommendations for updating. You could try re-applying it. Might help.

  • The update to 26 does not install, the box just stays up, how do I fix it?

I keep getting reminders to update to 26, I click on the update, and the dialog box icon continues without installing anything. I have a MacBook Pro with a 2.4 chip, and am running Mac OS 10.7.5. I also can't get new Flash player installed, and assume it's because Firefox is not updated.

    Please try manually updating Firefox.<br>
To do so, please download to most recent version from [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ our website].
Do this fix the updating issue and the Flashplayer issue?

  • Latest update to iTunes does not install

Installed update to iTunes today. While installing I received message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priviledges to start system service." When I opened iTunes got  - "MSVCR80.dll not found". This was corrected and reinstall attempted. I then got message Windows error message 7 and proceded to correct via instructions at (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3074?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) After completing this, I reinstalled iTunes.
I still get the same message R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the applications support team for more information." When "OK" is clicked the box Window's 7 (1114) is opened. This leads back to correcting the .NET Framework as described above.
As of this time I have no iTunes and cannot sync with iPod or iPhone.

This happened to me on windows XP trying to update iTunes as well today. Here are the steps I went through to fix this. I hope it works for you as well.
I was getting the error ASPDaemon.exe missing MSVCR80.dll. If you aren't getting this, skip to the next sections. To fix this from popping up I did the following:
    1. reset computer, hit F8 to restart in safe mode.
    2. restore to system settings from anytime before you tried updating.
When I started the computer the error was gone but iTunes still wouldn't work. From here I did the follwoing
(Start here if you're not getting the MSCVR80.dll error)
    1. Download the new iTunes from itunes.com and save it to your desktop or download folder whatever, don't install it yet.
    2. Go to Start --> Control panel ---> Add or Remove programs, then remove the following programs
    3. Remove iTunes
    4. Romove Quicktime
    5. Remove Bonjour
    6. Remove Apple Application Support
    7. Remove Apple Software Update
    8. Remove Apple Mobile Device Support..
I had an issue removing this because of the MSVCR80.dll error. So I clicked "change" instead of remove            and did a repair on the Apple Mobile Device Support. After it was repaired. I removed it from add/remove            programs.
    9. After removing all of those I reset my computer.
    10. Click the iTunes set up on your desktop or wherever you saved it and install it.
    11. After it installs and loads plug in your devices (iphone ipod, etc) to makes sure they sync.
That seems to have worked for me. Hopefully this helps you and any others this has happened to.
