Seeking a solution for synchronization of sequences in expdp

Hi all,
When i am exporting tablespaces from a live database, first the tables are being exported and then the sequences. and while these sequences are being exported, as this is the live database, the sequences are getting modified because of new insertions. So i am getting a conflict with sequences not being exported correctly.
I am using Linux OS with oracle version 10.2.0.4
Please provide me a solution for this.
Thanks & Regards,
Ravi kumar

Sequences get exported before the table data. I find that kind of annoying too that the sequences can be behind the data after an import. To get around this problem I run the following to create a script that will regen the sequences. Do this any time after the export is complete and you will have no problem.
set linesize 300
set heading off
set trimspool on
set trimout on
set pagesize 0
spool regen_seq.sql
Select 'DROP SEQUENCE '       || sequence_owner ||'.' || sequence_name || ';' || chr(10)

       'CREATE SEQUENCE '             || sequence_owner ||'.' || sequence_name ||
       ' MINVALUE '                   || min_value     ||
       ' MAXVALUE '                   || max_value     || chr(10) || '      ' ||
       ' INCREMENT BY '               || increment_by  ||
--       ' START WITH 1'                 ||
       ' START WITH '                 || last_number   ||

  • Seeking LR5 Solution for Dolby 5.1 sound

Many AVCHD video cameras (including models from SONY and Panasonic) have the ability to record Dolby 5.1 surround sound.
These sound tracks can be played on any Windows 7 system with Windows Media Player.  They can be played and edited in Premiere CS6 and (I think) also Premiere Elements.
UNFORTUNATELY Lightroom has no codec for Dolby 5.1 sound.  Therefore any video recorded with Doolby 5.1 sound encoding is SILENT when played in Lightroom!  Furthermore, such video clips published from Lightroom are typically also without sound (unless publishing the unedited clip in original format).
Adobe seems unwilling to pay the licensing fees to Dolby Labs to include this playback capability.   Surprising, and disappointing.
This problem was there from the beginning in LR4.   It appears that LR5 is no better (for this problem).
Has anyone found a good solution or workaround?   It seems silly that it can't work better.  Is anyone offering a plug-in to enable Dolby 5.1 sound playback?

I'm facing exactly the same problem... I'm very disappointed since this problem has been reported to Adobe at the early beginning of LR4 and they haven’t change anything with LR4 RC1/2 or LR5. I see basically two ways for a workaround:
    1) Import the original files and find a way to enable LR to payback Dolby 5.1
    2) Convert the original files before importing them into Lightroom
    1) That is definitively the best way since we don't touch the original data, but I'm not sure such a plug-in exist. This way would even be better if we assume that one day Adobe will enable Dolby 5.1 playback within LR.
    2) That is probably the only possible way. I've done some testing; it is really time consuming and worst the original data will be changed.
    >> Does anybody have any good advice for converting files?

I guess my approach would be to use a transcoder like MediaCoder or Handbrake to copy the video (direct stream copy, no transcoding) while stripping the audio down to two channels.

  • My solution for the "Error -50" and/or "Syncing" problem

    Hi
After upgrading to iPhoto 5.0.2 I also had the "Error: -50" problem"
How have I solved this problem => also with the help and tips from other forums.
    • Before the upgrade all my pictures from iPhoto were available on my iPod Photo (30 GB)
    • After the upgrade of iPhoto to 5.0.2 I received the "Error: -50" every time I tried to synchronize my iPod. Strange, strange, strange, ...
=> first I detected that putting pictures on my iPod starting from a folder (in stead of iPhoto) worked fine.
Trying to change back to iPhoto did not work and no albums where available in the iPod Options view!
=> then I tried to create a new iPhoto library (press and hold Option(alt)-key while starting iPhoto), put some pictures and albums in it ... and even this did not work.
What did I do to solve this problem!
    1. I thrashed my iPhoto application (DO NOT empty you trash, because you have to put it back again)
    2. I used "Disk Utility" to repair the disk permissions.
    3. I put back my iPhoto application from the thrash (same location as before - Applications folder)
    4. and did again a "repair disk permissions"
    5. then I tried to sync my NEW iPhoto library on my iPod and EUREKA this worked.
    6. Then I switched back to my original iPhoto library (launch iPhoto holding the Option key).
    7. Tried to sync ... again the same problem => no pictures and albums available in the iPod - Optoins - Photo tab.
=> conclusion : the problem has to be in my iPhoto library
    8. after trying many things (such as eliminating albums => trail and error method) I found the cause for my problem.
=> I used KEYWORDS in my iPhoto library with strange characters and had SMART albums using it. In my situation it was the "&" character.
Replacing or removing this character solved my problem. All my pictures and albums were available in the iPod - Options - Photo tab
    9. Sync could be started ... Youpi!
After synchronizing my iPhoto library I noticed that not all pictures were available on the iPod. I start looking which pictures that were missing on my iPod. When I found them I wanted to know why they were not synchronized.
I found the explanation in the file "AlbumData.xml" in the "iPhoto Library" folder.
If you open this file with TextEdit and search for this missing file then you'll find that (at least in my case) corresponding path does not exist (any more). And that was the case for each missing file!
    How solving this problem?
    1. I tried rebuilding the iPhoto Library => launch iPhoto holding the Option and Command keys. This did not work.
    2. What did I do?
2.1. First I exported all my Pictures from the active iPhoto Library (Share - Export)
=> VERY IMPORTANT NOTE : all extra info such as "Key words", Albums, ... will NOT be saved!
2.2. I created a new iPhoto Library (launch iPhoto holding the Option key)
2.3. Then I imported all exported pictures.
=> if you check the file paths in the AlbumData.xml file, you'll see that this info is correct!
2.4. At least I recreated (manually) all "Key words", Albums, ... so I had a duplicate of my original Library.
I hope this also works for other people with the same problem.
    Greetings
    P@nt@ni

Here my solution for the itunes' "unknown error -50" and not showing any albums in the prefs' tab:
    1. All rebuilding options in iphoto didn't resolve the problem.
    2. I opened the file "AlbumData.xml" in the iPhoto-Library-Folder with a text editor. I figured out, that the problem wasn't in the Albums, but in the "Master Image List"-Section. They look like this:
              <key>1741</key>
              <dict>
    .. titles, filenames, ....
    </dict>
After making a backup of this file, I started deleting entries here (you know, the fastest way to do it is to split it always in halves and check in iTunes if the error still exists). After about half an hour I got the problem key.
    3. The problem was: Some (curious) white spaces at the BEGINNING of the comment! Curious, because they weren't visible in iPhoto's comment, but I could delete them in Iphoto! I guess they weren't normal space characters, but any special symbols (line feeds? whatever)
    4. After that, the -50 error was gone. Now I could see the Album Names. But the sync stopped after a while with a "... file not found...." - error.
    5. Again, with trial&error I found out, that 4 pictures in the last 3 months' rolls made this second problem: I just duplicated them in iPhoto and deleted the original ones. So I still don't know why they have produced this error... anyway,
    6. Now all of my photos sync well.
.. well, the whole story took me 2 evenings. I really didn't switched to Mac to play debugger for Apple. Do they read these groups here or do I better write them anywhere? They should get those problems fixed asap! As far as I read in the groups, those errors do exist quite a long time?!
    My versions:
    iPhoto 5.0.4 (263)
    iTunes 5.0.1 (4)
    OS X 10.3.9
    iPod Nano 1.0

  • Pls help putting together the BEST SOLUTION for PP and AE CS4

    Hi guys
I was tasked to put together the best machine (machines) for video editing / rendering .. money is not an issue.
My client is a TV broadcasting network and they do lots of videos everyday .. They want to render their work as FAST as possible because sometimes they have tight deadlines and rendering and re rendering (if there are mistakes) has cost them .. so now they're serious about getting the best technology to achieve best rendering time possible, but in a bit of practical sense of course.. i mean there's no sense spending 1000USD or more for a piece of technology that offers under 10 second faster rendering only ..
    What they do and want
    - edit/put together/ sequence lots of videos constantly, under premiere cs3 (will upgrade to cs4 on the new machine)
    - use affter effects for some effects and 3D stuffs.. but not that much.. but increasingly as time goes by and their video editors get more affter effects training..
    - needs really really fast rendering!! Right now it takes them typically 1-2 hours to render stuffs, and what to cut this time by half or more..
    Existing Setups on work stations:
Intel QuadCore (Q6600, i7, Q9550, Xeon x3220, and the likes)
    4GB RAM DDR2 1066mhz
    Highend motherboards
    GeForce 9500GT , 9800GT, and GTX 260 216sp
GSKILL Falcon 64GB SSD Drive as primary
1TB Western Digital BLACK edition drives for storage
    Software:
    Windows XP 32 bit
Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 (80% of all their work done here)
    AE CS3
    etc..
    Running NOD32 Antivirus
I am an somewhat of an expert in Hardware and stuff, i build custom PC's machines most of my life but i have limiited knowledge on optimizing hardware for VIDEO EDITING stuffs.. so i turn to you all.
I do understand that w/ video editing CPU is the most important, followed by RAM, and ofcourse by HDD for disc caches and stuff.. and where videocard may come to an advantage as well. and normally i'd suggest the fastest components available . i7 , extreme processors, skulltrail dual quad setups perhaps? RAID 0 SSD Drive? etc.. but I do not know w/c gives the most advantage, and w/c is a waste of money..
I also read about quadro cards offering really big performance improvements using CUDA tech etc..
again im not the expert at this type of requirment.. so i need your advises..
with unlimitted PRACTICAL budget given to me to come up w/ a solution I initially thought a rendering farm would be the solution, but upon reading around it seems there's no rendering farm solution for PP CS4.. just the adobe after effects part.. so i had to go back to the drawing board and suggest really powerful work stations instead..and perhaps have them migrate to 64bit OS for that "extra" performance.. i myself am on win7 64bit and it's looking mighty good.
    1) is this the right move?
    2) is it still worth it to put together rendering farm for AE renders only? or might as well concentrate funds on the machines/workstations?
Also along the PRACTICALITY LINE, would it be practical to maintain all the existing machines, and instead build a manned RENDERING MACHINE w/ PP and AE (basically desktop or Server if they are faster at rendering w/ the best specs for the purpose etc) where they can just throw the workload to some guy there for rendering? Atleast the editors can continue using the workstations while the rendering machine guy is at work? and even perhaps setup a gigabit lan network where the RENDERING MACHINES can dynamically pull the work load via the network , not needing to transfer the files to the rendering machine first ? etc
as you can see im not only looking for the best machine, but the best STRATEGY for my client.
Good suggestions would be much appreciated.
    regards to all

in a nut shell no. if you do not have to "Share" then Avid is pointless Adobe is a far better answer.
Avid solutions still need a computer. The Mojo.Nitris are a joke and Avid no longer provides computers even the Symphany comes with your choice of Apple Mac Pro or HP 800. (Dual Xeon)
there are better "hardware" answers that what Avid sells for Adobe. Decklink, Aja to name a few.
if you have to share then you have no choice. this is the one area Abode does not lead.
renders have to do primarily with 2 things CPU power (Xeon will render faster than single i7)
and Drives. the faster your drive set up the faster the render. Memory does play a part and so does the video card depending on what codec and to what
it also depends on WHAT you are rendering and from what for the HDDs.
without knowing your work flow format and codec its impossible to suggest something.
    in terms of rendering
    Core i7
Dual Xeon (faster unless still doing DV/HDV thru firewire)
    Sonnet raid array

  • ARIS - Solution Manager synchronization limitations

    Hello,
I made simple demo and I noticed that there are several limitations in ARIS<->Solution Manager synchronization. Could You explain me some issues or tell how to solve them, that would be very helpful.
    1. When I make model in SolMan and then import it to ARIS I have all elements and connections between them, but when I make changes to this model in ARIS, ex. Adding new element with connection, and export it back to Solman I have my old model with new element but without connection. Could you tell me how to export connections from ARIS to SolMan? What I might do wrong?
    2. Where SolMan keeps all data about connetions between elements?
    3. How can I do tree connection in ARIS (one element is connected to more than one element) and then import them to SolMan?
If You have any tutorials or documents about ARIS in SAP, please sent them to me, I will be grateful for Your help.

    Hi Pawel Tomasik,
What you identified is correct. The connections are not syncronised with SAP Solution Manager. If you have Busienss Publisher avaliable in your organisation you can sync in such a way that the Process Model link is added as a documnet in Solution Manager.

  • Solution for OPML error in SOA suite Startup (Win Vista x64 and older)

    h1. Hi Folks!
When installing SOA suite on Vista 64 bit I encountered lots of problems. One of them was the following upon starting the SOA suite:
At 33% in the progress bar, the starter gives an error, returning a question about OPMN.
Caused by: oracle.ias.opmn.optic.OpticBadConnectException: Error connecting to OPMN (is it running?): Connection refused: connect
Being a newbie in this field, I resisted to learn everything (Oracle as part of a course of Busines Process Integration Laboratories at the University) about the works behind the package. Unfortunately, OPMN drove me crazy for days!
The main problem for OPMN is the unability for the system to handle certain issues.
One of the issues: When in a testing environment that is unstable (i.e. a laptop) some issues occur:
    * sleep resume is not supported
    * hibernation resume is not supported
    * restart is not always working for all processes
    (tested this with XP32 & XP64 SP2; SP 3; Vista 32 and Vista 64)
The main issue is with OPMN and the services that are started and controlled through it.
A solution for our workgroup has been made:
    -create a reset.bat file
    -use the following code:
    +@echo off+
ECHO Step 1 in the server reset is running: Shutdown OPMN processes
    D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\opmn\bin\opmnctl shutdown
ECHO Please continue the reset sequence by pressing any key
    pause
ECHO Step 2 in the server reset is running: Restarting OPMN processes
    D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\opmn\bin\opmnctl startall
    END
The commands regarding ECHO and the pause break can be omitted, but for supervision it is better to see if all processes are started in working order.
Please note the absolute paths, these are from my personal setup as they are the default from the manual. Adjust if necessary.
As User Account Control (UAC) does interfere a lot with programs in Vista (32 & 64) and from SP3 also with XP, please assign administrator rights to the reset.bat file.
This solution should take care of the "OPMN (is it running?)" issue, without rebooting or cold restarting the server.

  • ERROR MESSAGE - "no applications are set up or enabled for synchronization blackberry"

I own a BB Bold 9700 and have recently changed laptop using Windows 7 64 bit and Outlook 2010.  Since upgrading to the new desktop software I am unable to sync my BB. I have gone through the configuration settings, but no tick marks appear having configured each of the areas e.g. calendar, contacts etc.
I followed advice on another message about uninstalling and reinstalling, but am still having the same problem.
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks.
    Craig

    Hey Craig,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
When you put a checkmark for contacts, calendar etc.  Go through the setup does it keep the checkmark?
Try moving the synchronization folder and then configure the setting.
Go to Tools>Desktop Options in BlackBerry Desktop Software.
And change the "store organizer data to:" to a new folder and press OK.

  • Hardware options for synchronization

Was wondering if someone could help "rank" these approaches for synchronization.
    - TCXO with shared references/PPS (i.e. - MIMO cable or OctoClock)
    - OCXO
    - OCXO with GPS
The "standard" TCXO models require extra stuff (MIMO or OctoClock or external sources) to phase lock and time synchronize.
The OCXO gives you better accuracy...but it is unclear the degree to which this has an effect on phase coherency (and over how long a time).  Presumably, you'd still need something like a PPS to time synchronize?
With the GPS disciplined devices, are you basically getting the phase coherency and time synchronization from the GPS signal rather than external 'stuff'?  Or are there instances where you'd still need something like the MIMO cable or OctoClock to further nail down timing and synchronization?
    Brandon
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Brandon,
Thank you for the extra information! I have been looking further in to this issue, and a lot of your question depends on your hardware and system setup. JamesB, awesome post! This is great information.  To add to this, for our GPS USRPS (NI USRP 293x) unfortunately you cannot use the Ref In inputs, so splitting out the external clock is not going to be an option on this hardware. With this in mind, option (c) will likely be the easiest since that is exactly how our USRP's work. Are you using an NI USRP? If so and you're trying to sync up 8 of these USRP's together, GPS might be the only real option.
As far as direct cabling vs. GPS for accuracy, direct cabling is more accurate if you are using an external clock that is is more accurate than the onboard clock and if you're using a USRP that can use an external reference clock
The NI USRP 2930 and 2932 both have OCXO's which alone are more accurate but there is no way to extract the 10MHz source to another device, except for a MIMO cable which is only good to use for 2 devices. Therefore the direct cabling method only exists for specific scenarios:
    1. Using MIMO cable for up to 2 devices
    2. Using an external clock, and a splitter.
However, the internal OXCO does not do you any good for more than two device synchronization. Using a GPS antenna, clock disciplining and a clear view of the sky will let each USRP utilize it's own OXCO and still be synchronized. So it is not just GPS, it is the act of using GPS information to adjust the already great OCXO time reference which required each device to adjust it's own clock. The following document shows the specifications for a USRP without a GPS antenna (just the OXCO accuracy) vs. the OCXO accuracy in conjunction with the GPS disciplining in section 4 (Synchronization with GPS Disciplined Oscillators on NI USRP 293x):

While I was looking in to this, I also found this forum post that had a similiar question:

  • Simple solutions for cinematic look with 60i video?

I'm sure this questions pops up over and over but I'm getting a huge headache trying to sort everything out through my searches, especially as a beginner to the film making world.  I'll get right to my questions, but first here is the equipment I am working with:
    Camcorder = Sony HDR-XR500, shooting in 1920 x 1080 60i AVCHD format
    Software = CS4 Creative Suite
I recently threw together a 10 min movie of a trip I just arrived back from using Premiere Pro, and while it was a lot of fun putting together I really have no idea if I went about it the right way.  I want to practice taking a clip of mine and converting it to that cinematic look, and hope someone can help guide me through some steps.
Here is what I want to achieve:
    - 2.35:1 pixel ratio
    - 24p or similar effect (trying to figure this out makes my head spin)
I know color correction has a lot to do with the cinematic look, but I realize there are many ways of going about this so I'll refrain from asking any questions in regards to this for now.  (I did find using the Fast Color Corrector and setting Saturation to 75%, and Input levels to 20, 1, 220 gave a nice film look)
Step 1: What settings should I use to create my new project?
    Capture Format = HDV?
For the sequence presets should I use AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) non-anamorophic?
Step 2: If I want to create a 2.35:1 aspect ratio, should I simply crop my clip?  I think I read somewhere for 1920 x 1080 video, crop 14% from top and bottom?  Or should I crop when I export out the movie?
Step 3: What would be the simplest/quickest way of getting that 24fps look using Premiere Pro or After Effects?  I know shooting in 24p is obviously the easiest way, but should I simply deinterlace my 60i video by right clicking clip>Field Options> Always deinterlace to achieve similar effect?
Step 4: Exporting video....again so many options I'm not sure what to do here.  Basically, could someone provide me with the best exporting options for the format I'm trying to achieve for:
    - Posting on Internet
    - Viewing on computer
    - And viewing on blu-ray
I really appreciate any help to the above questions.  Big thanks!

Step 1: Capture settings are irrelevant for AVCHD on that camera.  Just copy the entire folder structure intact to your hard drive.  Pr will find the copied footage through the Media Browser panel.  You may even be able to edit directly from the camera's HDD.  You should try it and see.
Step 2: 1920x816 produces a 2.35:1 aspect ratio.  Assuming all of your action occurs in the exact vertical center of the shot, then you should crop 132 pixels from top and bottom.  Placing your 1080 footage into a custom progressive sequence of those dimensions should get you what you want, as long as you don't have Default scale to frame size selected in Preferences.
Step 3: This is the tough one.  To get 24 fps out of 30 fps, one frame out of every 5 needs to be dropped.  This will produce perceptually jerky playback, especially if any motion at all is present.  So the remaining frames must be blended together in some way to smooth out the bump where the missing frame is.  Using AE to accomplish this is, IMHO, the best solution for an all-CS4 workflow.  In AE, you have 2 choices: Frame Mix and Pixel Motion.  PM produces better results, but FM renders faster.  If you haven't done any editing of the clips in Pr yet, then the best idea would be to convert all of the footage in AE before importing it into Pr.  If you've already got edits in place in Pr, then you can select all of the clips in the sequence and choose File | Adobe Dynamic Link | Replace with After Effects Composition.  Either way, each clip in AE must be individually interpreted to Separate Fields/Preserve Edges.  The comp settings must be set to 24p.  Then Frame Blending must be enabled for the comp, and finally, each Frame Blending Layer Switch must be set to either Frame Mix or Pixel Motion.  If you do use Dynamic Link, be sure to turn *off* Frame Blending in Pr, because AE has already taken care of that.
Step 4: Because rendering will be so intensive and take so long, I recommend exporting an intermediate file from Pr, then re-importing that file to be used as the source for the various export formats.  Otherwise, you'll have to render all over again for each individual export format.  For web, I recommend Flash.  For computer viewing, it depends on your delivery method (CD, DVD, Download, External Hard Drive, Flash Drive, etc.).  For Blu-ray, either H.264 Blu-ray or MPEG2 Blu-ray.

Hi sir im using fcp 7 for video editing in i mac, how can i edit mts files in fcp 7 without log n transfer, is their solution for fcp 7?

    >No, you are not right.
Going to question the biggest contributor to this forum?  (Yes, my ego is talking).  OK then...
    >Install the QT-Plugin, restart your Mac and you will be able to import and use .mts files in FCP 7.
Sure...yes, that makes it POSSIBLE to read the files natively in FCP...if they come from a Panasonic camera. BUT...just try working with those files.  Right away the system won't be nearly as responsive as it would if they were ProRes. First...there are no sequence settings for that format...so you'll have to use ProRes and have a green render bar.  BUT, that's no big deal.  The big deal is trying to work with the AVCHD format, which is VERY processor intensive...inside an application that doesn't like to work with much outside of the FCP editing codecs.
Is it possible? Sure? Will it work well...will you be as zippy and error free as if you converted to ProRes? Not by a long shot.  OH, but don't just take my word for it.  Go ahead...try it and see.  No skin off my nose...no waste of my time.  See how well this works.
I'm just here to relate real world working solutions to issues.  And yes, I did try that plugin, and boy, was editing a pain.

  • Use smartphone camera in labiew for timed image sequence - No need to stream realtime

    Hi all.
I'm working with labview 2009, vision acquisition,  and an android smartphone (I have several models).
What I would like to do:
    - Grab a timed sequence of images with the smartphone camera and save them into the pc. I have a "schedule" (e.g. image 1 at time 0:01:123, image 2 at time 0:01:876, image 3 at time 0:02:464 ....) and I would like to shoot an image at every predefined time and save it in the pc. The time interval between two images is always higher than 500 ms. During the acquisition the camera is moved by a pan tilt unit. I just have to store images for postprocessing, I don't need live feed.
    What I have already done:
    - Connected  the camera to labview (with IP webcam following these http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/3D9CEA3E7B26FA4586257A56004E4507)
    - Created a labview VI where i have the time schedule
    - Tried to use some example VI to grab images
    What happens:
    - The camera has a poor frame rate (max 10 hz) and looks like is not able to focus fastly while moving and acquire the images in time. I must be sure that when I choose a time the image should be acquired. I don't need high frequency acquisition, but I need precise timing.
    What I don't really need:
    - I don't need the streaming video. Therefore if there would be a different system architecture where I don't stream a video but I just send to the phone a command and the phone gives back to the pc a single image that would be the best solution for me.
I thought that this could maybe feasible with android devices but I have also windows phones if needed.
Thanks a lot for your help.

    Dear Licia,
thanks for your answer. I'm using labview 2009, as you can read in the first post.
The result are described in the section "what happens", what I'm asking is in the same post just two lines below.
Maybe it is not clear, so I'll try to explain better.
I already tried the solution linked with ipcamera and labview, the results are not really good, I would like to have something better. I did not mention it in the previous post, but with the same vi (like snap o grab vi, as you suggested) and another usb camera (not a smartphone one) if have a higher framerate that leads to better results.
Anyway the main issue is that the ipcamera+mjpeg streaming solution is based on a thing that I don't really need (video streaming) so I'm asking if it is feasible a completely different approach where I can just shoot and transfer images without streaming.
This is the real core of the sentence.
    Thanks again

  • Solutions for slow boot times?

I got a custom-built AMD Phenom II X3 710 system (2.6GHz, 8GB DDR2 RAM, no overclocking), Win 7 Ultimate x64. It's got a truly annoying boot up time. I measured with a stopwatch, and it took 2:08 minutes to boot from start to the user logon. But it doesn't
stop there, even after getting into the user account, there is still further boot up going on, and the hard disk LED basically remains on full for 5 minutes (since boot) before we see it first flickering down. The system is somewhat heavily loaded with hardware,
it's got 4 hard drives internally, and a couple of more externals attached via USB. The boot drive is a 1TB Hitachi SATA.
The same machine dual-boots into Ubuntu Linux in about 1:30 minutes flat from the same physical hard disk (different partition).
I've been lately trying to optimize the services, by changing some of the automatic startup items to the new "automatic (delayed start)" method, but it hasn't made much difference. In the event logs there are various warnings and errors that show
up constantly during the boot process, which I think are relevant here:
One warning is from Wininit, event 11, "Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application".
One error is from Volsnap, event 25, "The shadow copies of volume C: were deleted because the shadow copy storage could not grow in time.  Consider reducing the IO load on the system or choose a shadow copy storage volume that is not being shadow
    copied."
Can anyone explain these above two messages, and what I can do about them?

Well, okay, I've gone through your procedures, it's certainly helped a bit, my startup-login time has gone down to 1:49 minutes (down from 2:08 minutes). And the startup-disk flicker time has gone down to 4:43 minutes (from 5:00 minutes). But unfortunately,
I still can't say that this is fast.
My feeling is that the disk seems to be doing a lot of seeking during this time, without doing a lot of transferring. It seems that the heads are so busy going back and forth, that it prevents actual work from getting done. Shouldn't the system disk cache
be preventing this from happening? I got 8GB of RAM, so there should be plenty of room for disk metadata to get cached.
Whoa! I've been able to get back another massive chunk of time by solving the Wininit, event 11, "Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application" warning message mentioned at the beginning. My startup->login time has gone
down to 1:11 minutes (down from previously optimized 1:49, and unoptimized 2:08); meanwhile, the startup->disk flicker time has gone down to 4:01 minutes (down from previously optimized 4:43, and unoptimized 5:00). Plus the system has gotten much more responsive
    during boot too!
I found the solution to that warning on a thread from the
Microsoft Answers forum here . According to the solution there, when I change the registry value of HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\LoadAppInit_DLLs
from 1 to 0 , I immediately got back those massive chunks of time. I'm still not all that highly impressed with the actual Windows 7 boot times, but at least I'm able to click on stuff during the boot process and get
some response out of the system: I was not getting any responsiveness before, and that annoyed me about the boot process. Since that event was listed as a warning, I was inclined to let it be, since it not as serious as an error. I'm glad I didn't wimp out
and sought out a solution for it, otherwise I wouldn't have discovered this very simple solution. It looks like Windows 7 was loading a whole bunch of unnecessary DLLs for every program it was starting, and this stopped it from doing that.
Thanks to Andre's boot optimization techniques, and this DLL load issue being solved, I got a much more responsive system that boots a lot faster too! And for the first time since I can remember there's no errors at all during boot-up on this system.
