Seeking advice - Walk-in purchase of iphone 4?
Hi All,
I currently own the iphone 3G and when I got it, I waited in line at my local AT&T store for a couple of hours and ended up having to order it, but received it in a few days. That being said, I haven't had much too much experience with huge launches and being a walk-in customer hoping to purchase an iphone on the 24th.
I was hoping you all might have some advice about where you think I should try. The closest Apple store is 1.5 hours away, so I wasn't really planning on going there. I have a Best Buy, 2 radio shacks, 2 Walmarts, and 2 AT&T stores. I plan to call each of them on Wednesday to see if they have any idea if they'll even have phones available for walk-ins, but where would you all suggest trying to obtain a phone on the 24th? I know it's a long shot anywhere I go, but I was hoping people might have more experience or even some educated guesses about who would get more of the product? There has to be some kind of rhyme or reason, right? LOL

IPad virgin seeking advice for first purchase
Been a long time Apple snob but haven't broken down to purchasing an iPad until now. My 6 year old MacBook Pro is losing steam quick and I feel like I'm going blind constantly searching the web on my iPhone. Overwhelmed by all the reviews on the various iPads and now the new iPad mini and just really looking for some insider opinions for what might best suit my needs. Love editing pictures and videos, surfing the web and playing music. Don't stream many movies or play with a ton of apps at the moment, but feel like the kids will hijack my device at times so need to consider that for memory. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
While there are some photo editing Apps, the iPad is not really suited for deep Photo editing or video editing. Like the iPhone the Apps are nice an friednly, but don;t really offer the control of a desktop Application.
Your better off doing that on a PC.
The iPad Mini would work is you don't have high resolution pics or if you can live with an almost 8 inch screen.
Personally I like the larger screen of the regular iPads as it makes reading things much easier.
The iPad is at its core a media consumption device. You may not think you'll use a lot of memory but it can quickly add up, with photos and videos. Even if you don;t expect to use it. the syaing is its better to have it and not need it, than to not have it and need it.
So personally I'd go for the 32GB as 16GB can become very confining very fast. -
Seeking advice regarding the purchase of an external hard drive for audio

Two questions:
1. I have 2 firewire ports on my iMac. Currently I have an Edirol FA-66 plugged into one of these and the other is free. These ports appear to be identical. Can I plug a firewire 800 hard drive into these or am I limited to firewire 400?
2. Is there any practical difference between a firewire 400 aud a USB 2 hard drive?

That's a toss-up, depending on your future plans and current budget. My iMac is FW400-only, but I just ordered a USB/FW800 external enclosure. A little future-proofing, and the price difference didn't break my budget. OTOH, an essentially identical unit with USB/FW400 costs $30 less, and will have exactly the same performance on a FW400 machine (or on any iMac connected to an FA-66).

I have just purchased the iPhone 5s and my previous phone was backed up on iCloud. However when I restored this on my new phone my photos are still being restored after 4 days. Shows the amount there but no pictures? Is there anything I can do to get them back as my other phone has now been cleared. On my iCloud storage it still shows that my previous phone had all the info still?? I'm confused!
Many users have lost photos while preforming a restore from backup or upgrading the iOS. Recall, only photos in the camera roll are backed up to iCloud. There is a way to turn backups for camera roll on/off, perhaps these users had camera roll turned off.

Settings>icloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage, tap the device's name and on the next screen, be sure Camera Roll is turned on.
IMPORTANT...
Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream. If using Photo stream, but sure to move the received photos to a permanent album. If you have been doing that, then you can sync those photos back to your device.
Or, you can find other apps in the app store that send camera roll photos to a service like Dropbox.
If you haven't been saving photos except relying on iCloud to store them in a backup, then that is risky, as many users have discovered. I'm afraid I have no advice in this case - there is no "cure". -
How to create "Purchased on iPhone" smart playlist?
I lost my old iPhone Larry but the "Purchased on Larry" playlist was still active. My new iPhone Ploobie's purchases were automatically added on it, but as soon as i synced my iPhone to my computer, the new songs got deleted from it. I ended up deleting that playlist in order to create a new one for my new iPhone. However i have found you can't create a "purchased on iphone" smart playlist from neither my iPhone or my computer. Could someone please give me some advice on how to do it?
Thank you.I am having the same issue. I tried merging two "Purchased on iPhone" playlists. I created a new playlist and copied all tracks from both playlists into the new playlists. I then deleted both "Purchased on iPhone" playlists. I purchased a new track on my iphone hoping that when I plugged in my phone to sync a new "purchased on iPhone" playlist would appear so that I can then paste all the tracks in the playlist. The new "purchased in iPhone" playlist was not created and now I have no idea how to add it back.

I was helping my grandma put something into the car and placed my iphone 4 on top of the roof so I could use both hands. As I put it down I thought to myself I can not forget to pick it up again but what did I do, I forgot about it. We went back to look to the house that we were at looked there and walked up and down the street there is a roundabout at the end so we figured it would have fallen of by then. I want to buy a new iPhone but I would prefer to have the same phone because I have to pay for it myself and I am a teenager without a job. My grandma insists that she pays for it and I really don't want her to so I would like to buy it before she tries to. So basically can I still purchase an iPhone 4 and if so where from. Thanks you

iTunes and iCloud and different accounts, you will need to delete both accounts from your device before adding the new details in their place.
For iCloud go to settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit the delete button. You can then sign back in using your correct details. For iTunes go to settings >store, tap your account ID and then sign out, you can then sign back in using your correct Apple ID. -
I have been using one apple ID for my family as it makes it easier to manage itunes purchases/rentals on all of our devices. Now that my kids are getting old and my wife has recently purchased an Iphone, I can see that I need to change my strategy. I plan to add a few more iphones to the family very soon. What is your recommendation to manage all of our devices (iphones, itouch, apple tv) for my family? Can I continue to function with one apple ID or is it time to take the leep into attempting to manage multi-apple ID's?

My ipod nano will no longer sync with itunes since i purchased an iphone 4s and synced the phone with itunes. When I plug my ipod into my imac, it does not even read or recognize my ipod. What do i do?
Are you using the original cable that came with Nano and not your iPhone's cable? Have you worked through the troubleshooting in this Apple support document?

Will I need to purchase iWork for my iPad if I purchase an iPhone 5s? Everybody knows the iPhone 5s with IOS7 gives iWork for free. I assume that if I buy an iPhone 5s (or 5c) then iWork would be listed as a "purchased" app in my itunes store under my account. My iPad retina is in the same account... or are keynote, pages, and numbers completely seperate between ipad and iphone? I know they would be a seperate purchase for my Powerbook. Hello, guys. My problem is that I want to purchase an iPhone app that is not available in my AppStore(s). I am registered in the Japanese and Russian AppStores, and the app I want is available only in the American AppStore. Do I have to change my AppStore for this? And how can I do it? Or do I have to create a new Apple ID for the American AppStore? I tried to do the latter, but it requires a billing address located in the US, which I don't have. What are my options?

You might want to contact the developer of the app in which your interested and suggest they offer it in your country. There may be reasons they can't but if they can and they know there's interest, they just might.

Everyone that has or had a iPhone, if they did not buy from the dealer, they purchased it from a individual...in most cases, the phone has to be unlocked unless it's being used with the same carrier as the seller. My question is, when you purchase the phone from a individual and it has been unlock and has the seller's information...e-mail/Apple ID information for iTunes..so I can't purchase anything from the apple store because I don't have his password...I was wondering how do I change that without resetting it to the original settings, is there any way I can purchase from the iTune Store with my own Apple ID. Since he does not own this phone anymore, there should be a way to change that....I am just wondering...HELP?
I sold my first iPhone, it was unlocked, and the guy that purchased my phone, set up it so he could use his own Apple ID, but, I never asked how he did that, because I did not think at the time I would purchase another iPhone... anyhow, does anyone have the answer...please advise...thanks in advance...Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in using your ID.

My daughter has an iPod touch using my apple ID, I just purchased an iPhone with the same ID. Is there a way to keep my stuff seperate from her ipod but still share the iTunes account? I was looking through the photo section on my iPhone and found pics my daughter has taken from her iPod. I do not want my pics, emails, etc to show up on her iPod. Is there a way to stop this from happening or do I have to create a different Apple ID for her to use instead?

Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old

Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
Settings>FaceTime
Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases. -

You can then use that account on the phone (Settings > iTunes & App Store for the stores, Settings > iCloud etc)
All of your downloads from your existing account will remain tied to that account. If you want to use the same computer for syncing then you can do do, you can have more than one account authorised on a computer's iTunes (Store > Authorise This Computer menu option), but only one account can be logged in for purchasing/downloading. But if you use iTunes Match, automatic downloads or redownload an account's past purchases then you may tie that computer to that account for 90 days : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627 - so you won't be able to do any of those three things on a different account until the 90 days have completed (it shouldn't affect being able to make new purchases) -
I purchased an iPhone off eBay and the phone isn't stolen or anything but it has the activation lock on it where it says "this phone is linked to an apple account (****@****.edu) I tried contacting the seller and they thought restoring the phone would remove that but its hasn't any idea what I can do or am I screwed and I need to get my money back
The iOS activation lock is a new feature that will be introduced in iOS 7, and is currently only something that can be used as part of the iOS 7 beta. The activation lock is exactly what the name suggests, it's a lock to prevent activation. This is done so that if the device is stolen, it can't be used. There is no work around you can do on your end, the only way it can be done is for the original owner to remove this device from his "find my iPhone" settings, which he can only do by giving you his appleID login details.
As activation lock is part of iOS 7 developer preview beta, you might get more information at the developer forums however it's more than likely you got ripped off
