Seeking practical pointers for newb podcasters

Hey all --
I'd like to hear some simple, practical pointers from those of you who've been doing this awhile -- some of the common sense, time-saving and grief-sparing pointers of your workflow that come only from experience.
As a newb, I'm offering a couple such pointers below, as a result of having just spent maybe 90 minutes trying to figure out what went wrong with the upload to my third episode. It took me 2-3 days to get the initial xml just right, and then for the second I did simply add the new item, and it went up with just a couple of minor fixes and no real frustration.
So I figured all was well. Wouldn't need to validate again. From now on, I thought, I'd just update an item template, paste it in, and go FTP.
Then today, on this basis I uploaded podcast.xml with item #3, and suddenly, zilch.
Feedvalidator and W3C indicated something about the UTF-8 first line and high-bit characters (probably curlies). That didn't make sense to me, because the top part of the channel had been fine for two episodes so far; I hadn't made any changes to those opening lines. Growing more desperate, I even copied that very line directly from Apple's own Tech Specs document, to make SURE I had it precisely correct. No change. Exasperating.
Suffice it to say that I didn't get any more work done this afternoon. I did some more googline and foruming, none of which would quite answer the question.
It was just a question of trying this and that, going back and forth between, I think, eventually six different versions of the xml, getting one bit fixed only to find something else wrong -- like whack-a-mole.
In hindsight it SEEMS that the validators found something else somewhere and for whatever reason unknown to me, they both cited the UTF-8 bit. (If anyone cares to try figuring it out, I can probably go back to upload of those alternative xml's that had the problem; just let me know.)
Yeah, there's a lot to be said for learning by doing, but the things I was saying wouldn't be allowed in the Forum here
So the pointers I'm offering:
(1) It makes sense always, always, ALWAYS to validate xml before uploading -- I'm not going to take anything for granted. And even then,
(2) to prevent overwriting a nice clean xml, I plan to rename the existing, working xml each time before uploading the new one. Only once the new one has shown up properly in iTunes will I remove the previous version. Likewise, I'll keep that short-term archive on my local drive as well for reference, for at least a couple of further uploads.
I'm sure this seems like "DUH" stuff to those of you who've been at it awhile -- it's on the level of "save your work every five minutes" and "make backups" -- but in that context, would any of you care to share equally simple "obvious" tips that may in fact HELP others?
Thanks,
chuck bryant

I don't muck around writing my own XML file: I use Podcast Maker ($30) which does all that for you, posts it to a server or iDisk, and will make an enhanced podcast with illustrations. You just make the mp3 file to start with, feed it into Podcast maker and enter the Description and Summary, and that's it.
One other tip: if you are tempted to submit your feed to Feedburner, don't under any circumstances allow Feedburner to submit to the iTunes Store. Do it directly, submitting your XML file to iTunes. This forum is full of complaints from people who've used Feedburner and found it flaky. It's fine on its own, as a parallel way of subscribing, but not when talking to iTunes.

    Which is better for newbies, Jgrasp or Netbeans? I need something that explains errors more thoroughly than Jgrasp.

    Here's my code with 3 errors. Now bear in mind that my program has compiled completely and ran correctly up to this method. All I'm trying to do with this method is get the average of all grades in a multi-array. I researched and found some code that was similar to what I needed to do but it's not working out yet. All other methods in my program work perfectly but I can't get this one to compile.

  • Best practice guide for Batch Load utility in Oracle UCM.

    Hi,
    Is there any best practice guide for Oracle UCM Batch Loader utility.
    We are looking for information regarding batch size in terms of number and size of contents. Also is there any loading time standards considering the contents are uploaded in filesystem where filestore provider is configured?
    Thanks,
    Krishnendu

    Hi ,
    There are no specific set of steps / practices for batch loading contents to ucm . It would be very much dependent on how many contents does the user have to load to UCM and how well the server is configured in terms of performance .
    You can get more details from the following documentation link : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21043_01/doc.1111/e10792/c02_settings009.htm

  • Chnage pointers for a report

    Hi,
    I have a requirement where in I have to  modify all the  articles (MARC-MATNR)  which are specified in the selection screen of a report. This report would be running in back ground for every one hour. user would not be entering input in the selection screen, since report would be running as a bactch job. whenver the article is changed and new article is created my report has to get triggerred.But it does not mean that the program should be run at the very moment a new article is created or changed. It just means that program should  run for only those records which have undergone any of the below 4 changes  in the last 1 hour
    ( 1.Supply source field MARC-BWSCL is changed for a article
    2.vendorEORD-LIFNR is changed for a article
    3. new purchasing source list is added (EORD Records)  for a article.
    4. new article is created).
    Can anyone please tell me how to proceed with this requirement
    Thanks in advance
    Ram Devi

    Another way is
    Enable the change pointers for the 4 fields you mentioned for article master using transaction code SCDO.This will be create change pointer entreis in BDCPV tables
    then
       CALL FUNCTION 'CHANGE_POINTERS_READ'
              EXPORTING
                message_type                = gc_message_type
                read_not_processed_pointers = 'X'
              TABLES
                change_pointers             = lt_chgptrs_tab.
    if any values found you can run your report , then after that. then call the following fm to update the processed entreis in change pointer table to be marked as processed, so next time theses entries will not consider
              CALL FUNCTION 'CHANGE_POINTERS_STATUS_WRITE'
                EXPORTING
                  message_type           = gc_message_type
                TABLES
                  change_pointers_idents = gt_pointer_id.

  • CSKS, KS02 change pointers for Z fields

    Hi,
    I have extended CSKS with new Z fields. Also ALE'ed this to other SAP system.
    But this is not creating any change pointers for this new z fields.
    The changes are tagged in CDHDR, but not into BDCP2 table. Is there any settings
    which needs to be done by which it will create CP automatically when we change Z fields
    in KS02.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks

  • Regarding change pointers for HRMD_A

    Hi Abapers,
    I need to distribute changes to HR master data to a middleware system. hence i have activated the change pointers for the message type: HRMD_A. now my idoc is populating the infotype segments whenever it is changed with all fields.
    But a particular change (on an infotype) should be sent individually in two different runs of RBDMIDOC run to the middleware. Ex: Vendor A needs changes to be sent to it on a weekly basis whereas Vendor B needs changes to be sent to it on a biweekly basis. When an employee X has a change on infotype 2, this change should be sent to middleware in both instances separately in different IDOCS at different times when RBDMIDOC program is run (by capturing change pointers pertinent to the message type of the particular vendor).
    What are the changes required for ALE config.? Do i need to create a new message type for vendor B and  configure. Please help.
    Thanks.

    Hi sudarshan,
    Yuo need to create Z program to trigger IDOC.
    As you need to set read status of change pointer as X after yuo send it to both system.
    So you need to create Z table to keep track of this whether you have send to sys a or Sys  B..
    If you willl not update read status in will cause performance prob.
    Hope this helps.
    Dhiraj.

  • How to create change pointers for IT6 when custom table Z777A changes?

    Situation: We are using custom table Z777A (copied T777A and added fields) to store building locations. Employee's IT6 subtype 92 retrieves valid work address building locations from table Z777A.
    Problem: Whenever there are updates to Z777A, we need to find all IT6 subtype 92 records that use the changed building location from Z777A and create IDOC's The change pointer entry will need to be for the IT6 subtype 92 row that is affected.
    Question: Can anyone give me specific details as to how this can be accomplished? Thanks.

    Hi,
    MASTER DATA CHANGES DISTRIBUTION BY CHANGE POINTER TECHNIQUE:
    Step 1: Creating change document object in SCDO transaction.
    Step 2:Assigning tables to the change document object.
    Step 3:Specifying change document items in transaction BD52.
    Step 4: Activating change pointers for the message type HRMD_ABA in transaction BD50.
    Step 5:Activating change pointers globally.
    Step 6:Executing program RBDMIDOC  in SE38, Specifying message type HRMD_ABA.
    with regards,
    M.Sreeram.

  • Where does one find the Oracle Best Practice/recommendations for how to DR

    What is the Oracle Best Practice for install/deployment and configuration of ODI 11g for Disaster Recovery?
    We have a project that is using Oracle ODI 11g (11.1.1.5).
    We have configured all the other Oracle FMW components as per the Oracle DR EDG guides. Basically using the Host ip name/aliasing concept to ‘trick’ the secondary site into thinking
    it is primary and continue working with minimal (or no) manual reconfiguration. But will this work for ODI? The FMW DR guide has sections for SOA, WebCenter and IdM, but nothing for ODI.
    Since ODI stores so much configuration information in the Master Repository..when this DB gets ‘data guarded’ to the secondary site and promoted to Primary…ODI will still think it is at the ‘other’ site. Will this break the actual agents running the scenarios?
    Where does one find the Oracle Best Practice/recommendations for how to DR ODI properly?
    We are looking for a solution that will allow a graceful switchover/failover with minimal manual re-configuration.
