Seem to be in mirror and pacman hell

Hi,
reinstalled arch, with 5/1/12 core 32 bit disk with KDE4 but despite enabling an Australian mirror could only get  [core remote  extra remote community remote] at first for the install.
However now this has all disappeared since upgrading and pacman seems broken plus the mirrorlist seems kaput also.
I wonder if anyone has any idea what to do or is it a reinstall again.
Here are the files and terminal comments  but no luck figuring this out to fix this.

El Zorro

    No.
I find it extremely frustrating that Apple does not care for such an obvious bug affecting one of the basic funcionalities of AirPlay. Unless, of course, if there's something I don't know - but I've done some research and it seems that plenty of people have same issue and no solution is settled.

  • [Solved] Localtime is messed up, and pacman doesn't work anymore

    Hi everyone,
I'm quite new to Arch Linux but I've succeded so far in installing the base system, setting up my wifi card (wasn't easy) and installing xfce4. When I first installed everything seemed to work fine (wifi, dropbox, pacman, etc.) but I noticed that my time doesn't reflect the current local time. I've selected America/Montreal in rc.conf and through "Orage Globaltime" in xfce4 but both return the UTC instead of the localtime. Also, when I try to get the UTC from Orage, it returns my localtime instead (Montreal)...
So there's definitely something wrong there. I've then had a look at the forums/wiki and found that a network synchronisation should be used to correct the issue (such as ntp) but now pacman can't connect to anything. It returns something like this when I try to install/update/search:
    $ sudo pacman -Syu
    Password:
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db' from mirror.us.leaseweb.net : Connection time-out
    ^C (keeps on getting time-outs if I don't interrupt)
    Some info on my system:
General info: as stated above, internet over wifi (wlan0) works, pacman times-out and the local time is off.

My first guess was that the localtime offset was preventing me from accessing pacman's repositories, but since it worked yesterday (when the time was already corrupt) it seems otherwize. Now I'm quite lost, especially since no one seems to report every pacman repository being down... could anyone please help me solve this problem?
    Thanks!

Thanks I'll look at that entry. Still I'd like to point out that this page clearly says that the timezone is to be set in rc.conf, which is a bit confusing. I must've followed this guide to get to my current configuration. I am dual booting with multiple other systems (xubuntu, win7, puppy, crunchbang) so from what I've read win7 might be the problem, but I haven't started it since i installed arch and my time has been off from the start.
Should I simply use NTP now that pacman is working again?

  • Airplay mirroring and external monitor

I have an Macbook Pro 15 that I just bought.  I am airplay mirroring to a external monitor.  I have a bluetooth keyboard and touchpad.  When I close the lid on the Macbook after I get the mirroring started, the external monitor goes blank.  When I open the laptop back up, I cannot get anything on the internal screen.  I cannot get it to do anything at all and then I just have to power it down and restart to get anything on the computer screen again.  I would like to know if what I am doing is possible?  Can you airplay mirror and then close the case on the laptop.  THanks

Here is what I just made work for me - and it isn't perfectly what I want, but at least my students will be able to see what I am coding.
In the Accessability Panel's Zoom settings I changed from Full Screen to Picture-In-Picture style zooming.
This works, but I would rather have a full screen zoom.
A side note: The cursor size, and grey scale work, but the color inversion and high contrast settings do not work on the mirrored display.
    It seems strange.

  • Mountain Lion, AirPlay Mirroring, and multiple monitors - how to choose display?

I have an iMac running OS X 10.8.1 with two external monitors connected via Thunderbolt.  I have a 3rd-gen Apple TV on the same network.  I can turn on AirPlay Mirroring and my primary monitor will display on my TV.  However, I would like another monitor mirrored instead.  I have looked but can't seem to find a setting to choose which monitor is mirrored.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

You can remove the Logmein sound driver.
You will no longer be able to hear your Mac from your remote machine.
    Start Terminal and paste:
    sudo kextunload /system/library/extensions/logmeinsounddriver64.kext
I did this long time ago because I was having sound problems on Lion.

  • When I try to buy any app or song from iTunes app or app store on iPhone 5 it seems to start the stops and goes back to baseline in a second or two

When I try to buy any app or song from iTunes app or app store on iPhone 5 it seems to start the stops and goes back to baseline in a second or two.
It did it with my old iPhone 4 in last month or so, and it I hoped it would go once I updated to new iPhone 5. The problem has transferred to new phone too.
I can't sign in to iTunes account on iPhone. It takes the password then resets to baseline. No error message comes up. On the base computer (pc) it will allow me to sign up and buy songs, apps etc. I can then sync the phone and put them on it. It just won't let me buy direct from the .
As there are no error messages I am at a loss what to do. I have updated the payment details on my account, and my husband has an iPhone 4 and has no such problems. We share the same wifi. I have tried with 3G as well as wifi, with no luck.
I am pretty much out of ideas, and have tried searching forums but there is so much overlap between queries that I can't find a similar problem from someone else, but I am sure it exists!
    Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks in advance
    Sarah

    I figured it out!
I read a solution for something that sounded similar.
    Anyone in similar position:
Open iTunes app on iPhone, and pick an option from bottom, such as music. Then scroll down to bottom of page and where your iTunes ID is, press on it, and pick sign out.
Then return to home screen, and double press home button and press and hold on first icon showing, until a minus symbol appears in the top left of icons present. Press on each minus symbol on each app in turn, until all app icons have disappeared. Then Restart the phone by pressing and hold the home button and the on/off/standby button at top of phone, until the apple symbol appears in centre of blank screen.
Swipe to turn phone fully on and open settings and scroll down to iTunes and apps option and tap that. Pick sign in and put in your apple ID, it will accept it and then return to home screen and open iTunes a you'll find it works fine
Simple really, but some like me won't think f this themselves!
    Hope that helps

Try doing a level reformat of the iPod's flash storage instead to see if that kills the restore loop using the instructions in the article below.

  • Database Mirroring and Replication in SQL Server 2008 R2

I have configured the mirroring and replication between 4 servers (A,B,C,D).i.e, Mirroring between A to B and C to D, Replication between A and C. The configuration was a success and I am able test the replication(B to C) when I have failed over the mirroring
dbs(A to B). The replication works fine after the mirroring fail over but I am not able to check its status in the Replication monitor. When I am having any insert in a table which is replicated in B, it is reflected back to C..it means the replication is
    working fine.
Any thought on how I can view the status of replication from mirrored server. I tried adding the publisher in the monitor, but no luck. If I check the snapshot agent status, it says could not retrieve the info, same with the log reader agent status.
    Any suggestions on this please.
    Thanks, Siri

    For example in your case...
Server A is principal and Server B is Mirror with either Manual or Automatic Failover.
    Server A is replicated to Server B ( publisher & B is subscriber )
In Server A Database named Test_Mirror_Replication is configured for both mirroring and Replication.
Now you have failed over your Database 'Test_Mirror_Replication' from Server A to Server B.
After the Failover Server A will act as Mirror for DB 'Test_Mirror_Replication' & Server B will act as Principal for DB 'Test_Mirror_Replication'
Hope my understanding is correct ?
If yes then have you tried monitoring the replication after registering in other instance with current principal database sql instance name ? I mean current Publisher database name sql instance ? not your old sql instance name which was before the mirroring
    role change or failover...
Hope you are trying with mirror database server name ?

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using Dr.Web Light from the App Store. It's free, and since it's from the App Store, it won't destabilize the system. If you prefer one of the better known commercial products, then Thomas recommends using Sophos.(Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.) If you already use Sophos, then be aware of this if you are using Mavericks: OS X Mavericks- Sophos Anti-Virus on-access scanner versions 8.0 - 9.1 may cause unexpected restarts
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

    Hi There!
The camera is a Panasonic Lumix. I don't have a USB card reader. I did try and different port although not a different cable.
I did remember one additional thing. I plugged my camera in at work to a PC. It was after that, when I came home, that the iPhoto wasn't working when I connected my camera to our iMac/iPhoto at home. I think this may have caused the problem.
    Cheers!

Maybe this is relevant: I bought iphoto from the German apple store but I now live in Italy. I have tried German credit card with German invoicing address and Italian shipping address. And I have tried Italian credit card with Italian invoicing address and Italian shipping address. The phenomenon is the same: shipping address appears in red and I am asked to fill in the mandatory fields (which turn red whatever I enter).

    KarinavD,
what is the setting for the Print Products Store in the Advanced Tab of the iPhoto Preferences?
The country you select there has to match the billing address. And your billing address should match the country of your AppleID and credit card used with the AppleID.

There is no way to export Faces information.
I'm not sure why you would do this:
If I copy a folder from iPhoto on to a hard drive, then delete it from iphoto then import it again,
If space is an issue then move the whole Library to an external drive:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Output Video Is Ghosted, Mirrored and Upside Down!

Posted this in the Media Encoder forum since I don't know where this fits best....
Not sure if this is Media Encoder or Premiere...
I made a videdo, about 4 minutes long. It's transcoded ProRes, on a PC, version 5,5 of the suite.
Basically when I was finished, I made a duplicate of the sequence and added some Magic Bullet Looks to all the video clips. I sent that to export. I also exported what I duplicated from, which did not have any colour correction, but a few clips had some denoising. Sent both versions to Media Encoder. The Colour corrected version shows a ghost image of the video, mirrored and upside down. Very strange.
Settings for export were the same for both, .h264, vimeo settings. Changed the framerates to 23, and set to render max quality, as well as to a CBR of 10Mbps.
Any idea what could be causing this?
    My first sequence exported fine.

Apologies for using 23 and not specifing.
Not ashamed to ask - what exactly is pulldown?
What are you talking about with the 3:2? I just changed the preset
framerate from 29.9 FPS to 23.976. Vimeo has never given me trouble when
doing this. From this thread in the Vimeo forums, changing the framerate
    should be fine. http://vimeo.com/forums/topic:34581
Or maybe there's some confusion? The weird mirrored, ghosting, glitchy
video was what happened right out of Media Encoder, so obviously I did not
    bother uploading it.
I usually changed the framerate in export to match footage and had no
problems. Is there any reason I should NOT do this? For example, I would
also do this when I export DSLR footage to MPEG-2 DVD, in the export
    settings I change to 23.976

  • In Lion, Time Machine seems to be perpetually running - and running slowly

Up through Snow Leopard, Time Machine did its incremental backup every hour quickly and stopped.
Since upgrading to Lion back in July, Time Machine seems be be running almost all the time - and very very very slowly. There doesn't seem to be any exessive Spotlight indexing going on anymore. That was long ago. So I don't think that's it.
Preparing for backup takes a long time. It take hours to eke through the backup itself, even if there weren't many changes, and finishing backup takes a long time.
I would say each backup, no matter how small, takes more than three hours.
At these forums there seems to be lots of discussion threads about this, and help pages linked to, but the suggested solutions seem to be a jumble, with some people saying they worked and many saying it didn't.
I did do a disk repair on the Time Machine volume just in case. And there is nothing else on that drive except for Time Machine backups. The drive is directly connected to my iMac (3.06 GHz Dual Core Duo, 12 GB RAM). While not vital, I'd rather not reformat the drive and lost all my old backups, which go back over a year. If I knew for sure that was the solution I'd do it. But in the discussions here there are people who seem to have tried that and reported back that it didn't help.
Right now it says it's backing up 3.5 MB of 132.9 MB - and taking forever to do it.
I know that since the last backup I haven't changed anywhere near 132.9 MB of data. Unless Lion is making massive behind-the-scene changes.
Something definitely seems to be wrong with Time Machine in Lion.
Have there been any additional thoughts on this? Is Time Machine just buggy in Lion?
    Thanks,
    doug

I feel ya, dawg, as they say. Right now I'm running a backup that has taken 43 minutes thus far. On an idle machine, it backed up 29.8 MB (17,949 files) followed by 19.5 MB (17,256 files). 12 min. for the first batch, 11 min., for the second. 13 min. of "Finishing backup" until it transitioned to "Cleaning up," which just completed after 12 min. Each backup typically goes 70–90 minutes. So backups are running for 65% – 80% of the time, if I leave TM running. I don't; instead, I turn on backups before going to bed, and turn them off on the first happy occasion when I notice that TM is idle.
TM backups have been behaving this way for about 2 months. Before that they were as speedy as Snow Leopard, for a couple of weeks. Before that they were taking 3 hours with the dreaded "Waiting for index to be ready" messge repeating for on hour or more. I fixed this latter problem by "trying everything" from http://pondini.org/TM/D2.html (a fine resource but, as you say, all over the map as all of the suggestions are).
TM in Lion is hosed. It's as simple as that.
