Segfault - error 6 in libcef.so

Last few days, system has frozen 3 times.  /var/log/sys.log reports <date/time> <hostname> kernel: [<Unix time>] Watchdog[<short number, differs>]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f<rest of address, differs but ends like>af6 sp 00007f<rest of address, close to but not the same as first, ending>650 error 6 in libcef.so[7f<more address, different each time but ending with>000+3cc7000]I'm not totally sure this is a Spotify problem, but it was the only application launched by me after login to a KDE Plasma 5 system when it last crashed. The mouse continues to be moveable, but the desktop is unresponsive to clicks or keyboard shortcuts. Alt-SysRq + R, E throws the user out to the login screen, where login can work. I havent seen it crash after this but the system dbus is no longer running etc, due to I suppose a partial emergency reboot. Restarting corrects problems with dbus, consolekit etc, but leaves possibility of crash again soon. I'm also using spotify connect to skip tracks from my phone etc (since no api for dbus anymore **cry cry**) - unsure if this is related, but a very nice new feature (and works perfectly on my Windows 8.1 laptop) Please let me know what I can test/check/do.

  • Segfault - error 6 in libc-2.13.so after GNOME3 upgrade::[SOLVED]

    Greetings archers,
Today I`ve -Syu`ed my system which is running Gnome 3 on it (64 bit installation of Arch). Everything was working just awesome but now almost everything is crashing with a very strange behavior.
For example, flash plugin is crashing when watching youtube videos in fullscreen, nautilus is crashing when trying to move/drag the icons, chromium is crashing when trying to type something in the address bar.
The following error message is being written immediatelly after the crash occures.
    May 5 15:53:54 localhost kernel: [ 2675.133040] chromium[6697]: segfault at 7fffece75fe8 ip 00007f6494808845 sp 00007fffece75ff0 error 6 in libc-2.13.so[7f64947a5000+154000]

I've searched on the Internet and I was unable to find any tip or something which I need to implement in order to fix this issue.
Also, I do not know what this 'libc-2.13.so' library is exactly used for? Can some one point me to some direction?
EDIT: I've found that 'libc-2.13.so' is apart of 'glibc' and 'lib32-glibc' (the GNU C Library), so I need to check which version is currently installed on my laptop once I get home and will try downgrading it and check if that helps.
Additionally, I've searched the Internet deeper and did not find anything similar to this except this ONE.
At this moment I'm not knowledgeable to narrow this issue down. Is some one else experiencing this behavior?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

When I select the Macbuntu Cursor scheme (the one I was using under gnome2, xfce etc ...) some programs are segfaulting as described in my previous post.
Once I switched the cursors back to the Gnome 3 original skin, everything is again working perfectly. This thread can be closed or something.
    Thanks.

    keycode 165 = XF86AudioPrev
    keycode 164 = XF86AudioPlay
    keycode 163 = XF86AudioNext
What gives?  The other xbindkeys work well.  What is causing the ncmpcpp segfault or how do I go about finding out more info?

Wow I feel dumb.  Seems like ncmpcpp changed quite a bit since I last used it (around last Sept!?). Looks like we use mpc instead, example "mpc next" "mpc prev" "mpc toggle".  Marking as solved.

  • POA Segfault error 4 in libtoolkit.so.1

    Hi,
We've got a customer that is getting this error regularly in /var/log/messages and their Post Office crashes everytime. 2 weeks ago we migrated the Post Office from OES2sp3 / gw8.0.3 to oes11sp2 (64bit) / gw2012, everything ran smoothly for at least 3-4 days, then our current problems started. It is the error message that gets written to messages after the POA crashes. We have gw2012sp1 on oes11sp1 (64bit) (4GB RAM, 2 CPUs around 250 users) and plenty of space. Top shows that the system is not lacking in resources, etc... We have two Post Offices running on the server one is for users and the other is a library. The POA crashes with 50, 150 and 200 users connected. The users connect via C/S and are using gwclient8. After doing some tests it appears as if the POA crashes when a user tries to send an e-mail an all users.... The POA crashed yesterday and it appears as if the GWIA also "died" after the POA "died". When the POA "dies" (crashes), sometimes we can restart it with the rcgrpwise start po.dom command and sometimes that does not work. When it does not work we have to unload the running instance of gwpoa (the library post office, there are 2 instances of gwpoa running) then start the User PO and then restart the Lib-PO....then it is running again. They were several old mails in the wpcsout/problem directory which Ive "cleaned out", but the system has crashed since then.
Normally a Segmentation Fault means not enough resources are available for the POA (seems unlikely, maybe update to 8GB Ram. threads look ok.), or there is a bug, maybe a corrupt email or user database? But our gwchecks show nothing dramatic.
There have been Netwokr problems, a switch died last week but unfortunately I have no more info on this. We've added a secondary ip address to the server and have configured the poa to use it.
    Any ideas?
Well, any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for your assistance.
    Mike

    Hi,
Thanks for your help. I'll be presenting the customer with this info and see if we can't get them updated to sp2.
Although, it seems as if I've solved the problem without sp2. Here's what I did.
The POA had 25 C/S threads and 10 Message Handler Threads for 150 users and I changed these settings to 12 C/S Threads and 6 Message Threads. My understanding is that for every 25 users (connections?) that you need one C/S thread and that Messages Handler threads should be no more than half the C/S threads. They have consistently 150 users and my entries seem ok. I also checked and/or made the neccessary optimizations to /etc/opt/novell/nss/nssstart.cfg, to the /etc/opt/novell/ncpcserv.conf and in Remote Manager. The customer also had Postfix running with the gwia. Of course I deactivated that. Finally the VM had 4GB RAM and 4 CPUs... this I of course also changed to 8GB RAM and 2 CPUs.... There were also 3 curropt messages in their GWIA and a couple of hundred in the POA directories. They were also "removed".
Since changing all the above mentioned settings plus a couple of other settings and a restart, it seems to be working fine. According to the customer that since the migration / upgrade when a user sent a mail on all gw-users the poa would crash. We've tested this and now it seems fine.
Nevertheless, I will be trying to convince the customer to update to sp2 ASAP.
Once again, thank you for your assitance and it is still possible that this "case" (thread) will be re-opened. Only time will tell.

  • Firefox won't run - segfault error

    Hey guys.

  • KDEmod 4.3 crashes with segfault

So, wanting to use something different, I installed KDEmod 4.3, but it crashes and slows down my system to an almost inoperable speed. It may be a Pentium M laptop with only 512 MB of RAM, but I am sure this is more then adequate; even Ubuntu runs smoothly with compiz running, let alone Arch.
When I load KDM as a daemon, it is just a black screen with and cursor that looks like a watch.
Seeing that it does not go beyond that, I disabled the KDM daemon and used 'startx' to start kdemod (I already added 'exec startkde' to my xinitrc.
The splash screen loaded, but it never got beyond the first icon, and after quite a while it crashed with a segfault error 11.
The packages were corrupted at first with powerpill, but I reinstalled it with pacman and installation went without a hitch. Is there a step I forgot in configuring X or what?

Firepower wrote:Is there a step I forgot in configuring X or what?
    Yes, most likely.
Ps. more info gets better answers. Try to follow the wiki for starters, both arch and kdemod.
    After that we can troubleshoot.

after search the forum, I found a post last year
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=833711
I only have the file " install " in /var/lib/pacman/local/filesystem-2011.08-1/
    ls -l /var/lib/pacman/local/filesystem-2011.08-1/
    total 4.0K
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1.6K Aug 10 07:41 install
I checked another machine which also installed Arch Linux,
    it's package number is filesystem-2011.04-1
    ls -l /var/lib/pacman/local/filesystem-2011.04-1/
    total 12
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 287 Jul 23 12:49 desc
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1804 Jul 23 12:23 files
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1623 Apr 8 18:08 install
Should I just copy the " desc " and " files " to my computer, then run `pacman -Syu` again
    or
Upgrade that machine's filesystem to 2011.08-1, then copy the files to my computer to fix it ?
( I am afraid of upgrade error again)
    Thank you

I just upgraded filesystem to 2011.08-1 on my VM
then copyed the " desc, files " under /var/lib/pacman/local/filesystem-2011.08-1/
to my computer, and reinstall filesystem and kernel
$ sudo pacman -S filesystem --dbonly
    $ sudo pacman -S filesystem
    Running 'pacman -S filesystem'

    upgraded filesystem (2011.08-1 -> 2011.08-1)
    $ sudo pacman -S linux
after edited /etc/fstab,  reboot the computer
During booting I got some filesystem error warning
system automaticlly checked and fixed those errors on root partition and reboot again
Then I can boot into X now
in  /var/log/error.log  I found something similar to previous booting error

after searching on the web, I found that maybe an old harmless problem related to kernel ?
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=293179
also found an error in  /var/log/daemon.log
Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.Avahi': timed out
there is already a post about it, but not having a conclusion yet
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=124485
Every things seen to work fine now
After few more test and reboot, I would mark this post [solved]
Thanks to everyone for replying m(_ _)m
    P.S.
There is still a problem when using virtualbox 4.1.2-1 after reboot, but I think that may not related to this post
If I try to upgrade kernel of the VM to 3.0.2-1  ( currently 3.0.1-1 ), will cause VirtualBox and my computer crash
generating some assert error, produce segfault when I tried to type any command in shell
unable to launch any program in X, but if I switch to tty*, I only got
INIT:Id "x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
So I have to push the reset button to force reboot
after restore VM to previous snapshot, not having any problem so far

  • New glibc hits testing

it's a major update - glibc2.7 is now in testing for both architectures. timezone datas has been splitted out into a new tzdata pkg.
give it a try. look out for typical segfault errors when starting programs or found in dmesg. there have also been changes to some locales. file bugs if you find something broken.

  • [Solved] Update broke some things

Okay, I just ran pacman -Syu and among the kernel and ndiswrapper updates some important stuff got broken.
    1.   When I try to boot up it gets to the file systems spits out a bunch of stuff and gives me this error
    /etc/rc.sysinit line 271 5915 segmentation fault /bin/mount -o remount, rw
What do i have to do to that line to let it boot normally?
    2.   This isnt a fatal error, just an annoyance.  but in that same file on line 350 it says: /usr/bin/kbd_mod no such file or directory.
    Can I delete this line?
    3.  and finally once again, these updates broke the wireless.  When I run netcfg2 mynetwork I get a wireless association failed error.
    Any help on this?

Well right now I can boot using the fallback option in grub.
    Here is fstab
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
    none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
    /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0

    /dev/sda2 / ext3 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sda3 /home ext3 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
I did an pacman -Syu update a few days ago when I first posted this thread, installed about 18 packages.  Then when I tried to boot up again, I started getting the segfault error.

  • Segfault in glib amidst rt2x00usb errors causes freeze.

I left my computer on overnight. When I woke up the next day and checked it, I saw it had frozen overnight. I could get no response from it whatsoever. These are the last entries in my system log before the freeze:
    Jun 16 11:41:01 vault kernel: ieee80211 phy1: rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset 0x308c with error -110

I have no idea what happened, but apparently, it had something to do with my wireless USB adapter (rt2x00usb) and glib, and it was bad. If there was a kernel panic, would that information be recoverable? Where would it be? How about a core dump of glib? Would that have been kept anywhere?

surfatwork wrote:I have had a similar issue twice recently, now that you mention it. Didnt have time to poke around and find out what went wrong.
upower is enabled on mine as well.
will do some more tests and report.
and I dont think it is your video drivers - I have onboard intel, using the xf86-intel-video driver
Thanks, I've changed the title to something a bit more informative, maybe we can get some extra help on this. My motherboard has an inbuilt Intel card, but it's disabled in the bios and lsmod doesn't show any modules for Intel graphics being used.

  • Weird error message from aplay

Got a new system this week and everything is set up and working, except a few weird audio glitches.  Audio goes through the onboard HDMI thingie, but I'm not using HDMI; my monitor sends the HDMI signal to a different computer and VGA to my problem child.  So HDMI audio is inactive.  I finally got alsa and all the other audio apps to stop trying to use the nonexistent HDMI by default (resulting in a segfault) by simply deleting that module from libs/modules/{...}  I set up /etc/asound.conf to identify the analog PCM as the default (card 2).  But there's a further complication.  I also have an external sound adapter plugged into USB for my podcast work, and it shows up as card #1.
Anyway, thanks to the default settings in asound.conf I can get most programs to send output to the analog onboard card and external speakers.  But when I try to play a wave file with aplay, I get
aplay: set_params:1081: Sample format non available
That message came up in another thread in 2007, and the solution was to install an updated set of alsa-plugins... but pacman says mine are up to date and I assume any problem with them in 2007 is no longer an issue -- at any rate, aplay worked fine with wave files on my old PC.  mpg123 plays mp3 files fine, and mplayer handles wave files (et al) fine... it's just aplay that's giving me grief.
I do *not* run jack, except during my podcast because idjc requires it.
Anyone else familiar with that error and can recommend a fix?

    gday Andrew -
I believe that this is caused by setting the attribute exclusive-write-access=false in the orion-ejb-jar.xml file for your EJBs.
This is a known OC4J problem: a bug has been logged and it's been fixed here. The next minor release of OC4J will contain the fix for this.
In the meantime as a workaround removing the exclusive-write-access=false attribute from the orion-ejb-jar.xml files for your beans should get you going.
    cheers!

  • RE: (forte-users) 3J= 3M new to me error

    Hi Thomas,
Thanks for your email but I think it will be interesting for Brenda not me.
It is exactly what I have expected from Forte Support: detailed information
about bugs and workarounds. But what I cannot understand is that #53398 was
released without any information about possible reasons for this problem or
suggested workarounds. My first reaction after reading this bugreport was to
open a new case at CallCenter to get more information about it. Please
release more information with your bug reports !

    Hi Zenon,
bug #53398 is not a bug which will likely get fixed, it's an informational
    bugreport.
You might see an errorstack like Brenda has reported (and described in
    informational
bugreport #53398) probably when you are doing something illegal that is
    possible
via Forte Tool but Forte is not trapping it for performance reasons. Hence
    you will see
the error coming from your illegal operation only at runtime, probably
    only
    while
running interpreted in the Forte IDE, but in worst case it might be even a
    segmentation
    violation.
Technotes 12448 'Sudden client partition crashes at runtime' and 11225
    'Don't reparent
mapped Widgets between UserWindows at runtime' explain this matter . See
    attached.
But maybe Brenda is much more experiencing a problem as described by Forte
Technote 11398 'Read Only Workspace Errors using ListViews or ActiveX
    control'
that might get easily resolved via setting of FORTE_YIELD_THROTTLE=0.
Good Luck and Best Regards !
BTW: I've logged bug #53398, so I've felt responsible to explain its real
    background.

Technote 11398 Read Only Workspace Errors using ListViews or ActiveX
    control
    SCENARIO:
Getting some unusual interpreter errors that result in an error stating
    that
the workspace has been set to read only. Please see Enclosures for the
    two
most common error stacks that have been encountered. The abbreviated
    versions of the errors are:
    - Can't read record (record size = -1)
    - Id in index does not match id in record header in data file
    - Recursive deserialization attempted.
    - Unknown Mark type in deserialization
    - Could not read record (64,74615) from repository data file.
    Header
    is corrupt.
These errors can be happening in either the development environment when
running from one of the development workshops, or with the deployed
    application.
The bug outlined in this Technote may be the culprit if the errors above
    are
seen when running a client on Windows NT or Motif and the user interface
incorporates ActiveX controls or ListView/TreeView widgets.
    CAUSE:
Basically what is happening is that in rare circumstances Forte may invoke
    a
nested copy of the interpreter while the first interpreter has yielded.
    This
is not a problem in and of itself, but in the case where the original
interpreter was in the middle of a repository fetch when it yielded, and
the second interpreter needs to fetch code as well, we will get one of the
errors listed above, depending on the exact timing. The reason for the
errors is that the repository code at this level is thread-safe but not
re-entrant. It is protected by a mutex that is already owned by the
current task. Which, given the scenario outlined here, where the two
interpreters are running inside of the same task, results in the nested
interpreter being allowed to change data out from under the first.
While for every fetch one or more calls to WindowSystem.Yield will be made
(this is there to prevent the semblance of system lock-up on Win 3.1,
    where
Yield is the only way other applications can be allowed to run), there is
a parameter which controls how often to actually yield, which by default
    is
set to one out of every 100 calls. This is the reason the problem is
intermittent--you need a yield to occur during a repository fetch
which starts another interpreter which also needs to fetch code from
    disk.
The reason this has only surfaced recently is that the nested interpreter
scenario can only happen in 2 cases that we know of:
    - ActiveX controls which respond to events/Windows messages
    - Outline fields/ListViews with column(s) mapped to virtual
    attributes
In all other normal cases, the yield can process the message (typically a
paint message) without starting another interpreter, so regardless of
    whether
the first interpreter yielded during a repository operation or not, there
    is
    no conflict.
    SOLUTION:
The workaround is to prevent yields altogether by setting the
FORTE_YIELD_THROTTLE environment variable equal to 0 in the client's
environment. This should have no detrimental effects since the yield code
is in place solely for Windows 3.1x clients.

Technote 11225 Don't reparent mapped Widgets between UserWindows at
    runtime
It is sometimes tempting to unparent a widget from one UserWindow and
    reparent
it into another at runtime. However, this can cause crashes if the widget
    (or
its decendants) are "mapped" to data. Here's why...
Suppose you have two UserWindows, UW1 and UW2. UW1 contains a DataField
    (DF1)
which is mapped to a TextData. UW2 contains a RadioList (RL2) which is
    mapped to
a scalar Integer. At compile time, every mapped attribute is internally
    assigned
a "Map ID" (a small integer) which is used to tie the Widget to its
corresponding attribute. These Map IDs are used by the Widget to look up a
pointer to their data in a "Map" which is maintained by the UserWindow.
    Each
UserWindow is assumed be to independent of the others, so there is nothing
    wrong
with Widgets in different UserWindows being assigned the same Map IDs.
    In
    this
case, let's assume that DF1 and RL2 both got assigned the same Map ID of
    3. No
problem so far, since each lives in a separate UserWindow with a separate
    map.
Now suppose at runtime the application "detaches" or unparents DF1 from
    its
UserWindow and reparents it somewhere into UW2. When it comes time for DF1
    to
paint itself the Display System it must ask the Runtime System for the
    value of
DF1's mapped attribute. To do that it says "give me the value of the
    TextData
for DF1. You'll find it in the Map for this UserWindow (UW1), and its Map
    ID is
3". When the runtime system goes to do this it expects to find a TextData
    in
this "slot" of the map, but instead it picks up the integer which is
    mapped to
RL2. At best this leads to bad data being returned; more likely you get a
    segfault and a crash.
If DF1 was not a mapped attribute (say, a Rectangle) there would be no
    problem
because there is no data mapped to a Rectangle. If instead of moving DF1
    you
created a brand new DataField on the fly there would be no problem,
    because the
dynamic DataField would not have any Map ID and so couldn't conflict with
    any
    IDs in UW2.
So how do you solve this problem? This is exactly what Nested Windows are
    all
about. While you can't move DF1 into the middle of UW2, you can nest
    UW1.
    This
works because UW1 brings its map with it, and when you access DF1 it knows
    to
look up its value in UW1's map.
UserWindows are intended to be the "unit of compilabilty" that can be
    nested
inside other UserWindows. It is dangerous to "transplant" anything from
    inside
one UserWindow into another at runtime.
(Note that you can't avoid this problem by cloning DF1 because the MapID
    gets
copied along with it, and the clone will fail in the same way.)
Further details explained in related technote 12448 'Sudden client
    partition
    crashes at runtime.'
Technote 12448 Sudden client partition crashes at runtime
Scenario : You have two UserWindows, A and B. When Window A starts up, it
instantiates an instance of B and reparents some component of B into A's
    window
    hierarchy.
This is not allowed and almost always leads to an error at best or at
    worse a
    segmentation fault.
    Here's why :
When you compile a UserWindow in Forte, each "mapped attribute" (whether a
    form
element or menu element) is assigned an internal ID which represents an
    offset into
that UserWindow's table of mapped attributes. This offset is only valid
    in the
context of the UserWindow in which it was compiled. If you detach a
    FieldWidget or
MenuWidget from one compiled Window ("tmpMenu" for example) and then
    parent
into another compiled window ("tmpWindow") the internal ID comes with it.
When Forte tries to make use of that copied widget it uses the ID as an
    offset
into tmpWindow's table of mapped attributes. But that copied offset is
meaningless in the context of tmpWindow's table, so you get some kind off
    error.
In this case it found that the data type of the variable in the slot
    wasn't
    what
was expected. But you might even index off the end of the table and get a
    segmentation fault.
There is nothing to prevent you from dynamically creating menu items and
    adding
them to a window at runtime; that will work fine. Although of course you
    can't
access them via mapped attributes, since those can only be created at
    compile time.
But you are not allowed to reparent a widget from one compiled UserWindow
    into
    the hierarchy of another.
More information may be found in technote 11225 'Don't reparent mapped
    Widgets
    between UserWindows at runtime'.
Possible errorstacks seen at runtime instead of a complete crash or
    segmentation
violation while you are illegally reparenting a widget or menuitem between
    windows

released without any information about possible reasons for this problem or
suggested workarounds.

Possible errorstacks seen at runtime instead of a complete crash or
    segmentation
violation while you are illegally reparenting a widget or menuitem between
    windows
    at runtime:

    Hi,
We are in the process of going from 3J1 to 3.0.M.2, and I am getting

    It
