Select Data "in background" -- Multi-Tasking

Hi experts,
I've got a selection screen I can choose which data the user wants to display.
Problem is, that the selection can take a few seconds...so I have this idea:
while user enters his selection, SAP should fill a internal table "in the background"...I mean while the selcction screen is showing, the internal table is filled in a separate task and then I can work with this => more speed because data is selected from the prefilled internal table...
I absolutely don't know if this is possible - and if so - how to do.
Anyone got an idea?

Yes this is possible, but can be challenging. You can start work in a parallel work process either by submitting a background job or by calling a function module with the additional syntax STARTING NEW TASK. Either approach will free your Web Dynpro ABAP application to continue processing while the work is done in a completely separate user session.
The problem generally comes when you want to know when the parallel work is done. You can't push content from the server to the client in HTTP. Therefore unlike the SAPGUI you can't interrupt the client processing to let it know when the background processing is completed. In NetWeaver 7.0 and 7.01, you have to use the timedTrigger UI element to periodically check on the background task to see if it is complete (or to update the % complete). The timedTrigger can be somewhat disruptive however, as it locks the client side while the event occurs in the main Web Dynpro Phase Model.
In NetWeaver 7.02 (coming soon) we solve this problem with the Notification Service. This allows the client side to use AJAX to check on the status of a background job or parallel thread using a secondary channel that doesn't disrupt the main application. It also checks against a status buffer in the ICM so the processing never has to drop into ABAP or the WDA Phase Model. Only once the processing is complete or reaches a threshold you set, does a WDA event occur.

Ipad2: How to listen to Music in the background (Multi-Tasking)?

Hi all,
Can someone please help me - I can't seem to keep my Music playing in the background on my ipad 2 when I then open Safari.
All Music automatically stops playing, it's like background Multi-tasking doesn't work for listening to music and using safari at the same time. Is this the same for everyone using iOS 5.0.1 on ipad2?
Any advice would help. This is driving me nuts!

I can't offer much. I'm typing this in Safari on my iPad2 while listening to music from the Music app.
Try restarting or resetting your iPad as explained in iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
BTW, most Apple support documents lately give a "file not found when" using a link, but load correctly when you reload the url.

Multi select date field

Is there any idea how to combine multi select DATE field in the check-in screen?

Dates are stored using a DATE field in the database in a database date format. As such, multiple values can not be stored in the same field, only single values.
What's the use case?

Can't use airplay and multi task anymore.

First of all, I would like to say I love my Apple TV. The one thing I didn't love when I first got it was when I watched a video or YouTube video on my iPad 4 and used the airplay it would show up on the TV but I had to leave that screen open on the iPad and couldn't do anything else while it was on the tv. The same thing happened with my iPhone 5. Then one day it started working. I don't know if it was an update or what but I was then able to use airplay on either device to watch something on the TV from my iPad but able to multi task and get on Facebook or Safari or whatever. Then one sad day came along and it stopped working and worked like how when I first got it, which was a disappointment, especially after it working for so long. Is there anyone out there that knows how to fix this issue? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Ps - my Apple TV is up to date and I have already tried restarting it.

It is possible that Google broke background playback in the latest update. Unfortunately I cannot check this myself because my iPad is only running iOS 5, whereas the latest version of the YouTube app needed iOS 6.
Still, it could also just be a glitch. In which case restarting your device might resolve the issue. (eg. press and hold power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears).

Report to be generated,mailed based on Reminder date through background job

Hi All,
We have a requirement where in I need to mail the "Task Monitoring" report to the Personnel administrator based on the reminder date set for different task types mentioned in IT 0019.
I am using T-code sm36 to set the background job on a monthly basis.
I am able to mail the report for as per the reminder dates set in the "Task monitoring" report. But I want to know how the system will pick the reminder date on a monthly basis to mail the report accordingly.
Eg. For the month of Jan, i have set the reminder dates falling in that very month in the selction output of "Task Monitoring" report and mailed.
Now I want sytem to automatically pick the reminder dates and mail the report. Pls let me know the steps to make the sytem pick the next reminder dates on its own on monthly basis.
Points would be rewarded for appropriate solutions.

Hi,
After pressing save button to create a variant, system takes me to the Variant Attributes screen. There I select on "Selection variable" accross "Reminder date". I clcik on the "Dynamic date calculation".
Then when i go to the "Name of Variable column" and i select "First day of the month" from the drop down. Can u pls explain me how this would help me capture the "Reminder dates" on monthly basis falling on each month when i mail the report on monthly basis.
Eg. For the month of Jan, i need all the reminder dates falling in this month.
For the month of Feb, i need all the reminder dates falling in this month. Like this, It goes on all for all the months.

Suggestion for better Multi Tasking

The Multitasking isn't what it should be.
It is quite a hassle to quit every app separately. And it seems to drain the battery life quickly.
So I have a few suggestions:
In the settings, add the possibility of giving the amount of apps that can be opened for multi tasking. So if you set this to e.g. 4, only the last 4 apps will stay open.
In the settings add the possibility of defining which apps can run for multi tasking and which apps should close immediately, so they will not be used as multi tasking.
Add the possibility of closing all open apps in one action e.g. by adding a button for this in the multi tasking bar.
If someone has other suggestions, please add them to this discussion item

Just because an app is available in the multi-task bar does not mean the app is running in the background. This is also a recently used app list to quickly select an app that may not be launched.

An easy way to quit all multi-tasked apps at once?

Running the SpeedTest app here in Japan I noticed the 3G data speeds improved dramatically (especially upload speeds) after one-by-one quitting all my multi-tasked apps and then restarting SpeedTest by itself.
I had like 20+ apps going at the time. Most of them were probably not contributing to the problem, but still, I don't know which ones.
Anyway, my question is, is there an easy way to force all the apps in the multi-task drawer to quit without one-by-one holding each icon down and pressing the "-" mark?

It still doesn't quite explain what I was seeing though.
With all the apps in the hidden dock my 3G data speeds were incomprehensibly slow. Doing a full restart didn't help. This is a critical point.
Yet when I got rid of all the entries in the hidden dock my 3G data speeds went up to somewhat respectable speeds again. In particular, what appeared to be an upload cap of 64 kbps disappeared and I was seeing upload speeds of about 800 kbps using SpeedTest.
So how to explain that? Just coincidence? Could it be that since that some apps, when the iPhone restarts, do start doing some things in the background again?
There should be some logical explanation for what I am seeing.
And I guess the answer to my original question is there is no way to remove all the apps in the hidden doc at once, is there?

The portlet data can be accessible using bindings, but parameter name can be different.
Meanwhile I have got one more scenario, where the Portlet and Task Flow placed in different pages of WCP Application. On change of data in the Portlet the application should navigate to another page where the Task Flow placed and displays selected data.
Basically I can not use any button for navigation. The navigation should happen once I do some action in Portlet.
Is this possible? If yes can you please let me know the steps?

What are your impressions of "multi-tasking"?

If you have iOS4 and a capable device, you should have multi-tasking and opened apps appearing in the task bar. Newer app versions are able to run in the background. In my opinion, when I close most apps (by pressing the home button), I want them to close completely, not run in the background. Aside from being a privacy issue, apps in the task bar may use battery power or if truly in a suspended mode, they still take up memory or process capability. In order to really shut them down, two additional home button clicks and then two more screen strokes are required. Not very efficient and probably leading to an earlier home button failure. Why not have some kind of screen command (tap or swipe combination?) to simultaneously shut down all apps in the task bar? The bar itself is useless if you have used many apps in the course of a day. To find what you're looking for, you have to scroll through a long parade of icons. It's a lot easier to just tap the icon where you know it is sitting in the nice folder you created. I don't get it. I realize the bar can be used for switching open apps, but this is really not that big of a deal for the vast majority of apps. Furthermore, there should be an option to enable or disable multi-tasking globally as well as for individual apps. Now that would be an improvement.
What are your thoughts?

I havent done any kind of multitasking on my ipod touch, im waiting to upgrade my software to the newer one. However, I couldnt agree more with that of pressing the home button many times to perform basic function to switch apps or enable the multitasking ability. I think palm adapted a better design of software than apple ever did with their IOS 4. Palm's webOS can handle full multitasking--something the iPhone can't do. Palm uses what it calls "a deck of cards model" for managing multitasking: You can view each of your open applications at once, shuffle them any way you choose, and then discard the ones you want to close. All of this is done with intuitive gestures that mimic handling a physical deck of cards. Apps remains live, even when minimized into the card view, so changes can continue to happen in real-time, even if you've moved on to another activity.
I had the time to experience a bit of a palm web os software on an AT&T store and my impression on that software is done more elegantly than apple multitasking home pressing button system.
P.S to NYtroutbum: you should definitely present that idea to apple by its feedback product page. Let's hope it listens.

How to see data in the multi-provider ?

We have a multiprovider with the key figure as total stock, and its given as a non-cumulative kf which has a check mark next to it. Its getting data from the infocube to it, I mean there are 4 infocubes and 1 ods to the multi-provider. If I right click and see the infocube or the multi-provider and select the fields by rite click and I am unable to see the total stock kf. But if I click the actual multiprovider and click display instead of display data, I am able to see the keyfigures folder, if i expand that I see stock quantity folder and many other folders. If I expand stock quantity folder, there are 3 kf's ztotalstock, 0isstock and 0recstock. In those ztotalstok is non-cumulative checked. And I am unable to see the kf value when i rite click on the mp. So any suggestion to display the data by selecting a posting date in the mp. What my guess is , will there be any internal table/view to display the mp data. Please let me know any suggestions.

Prasanth, entering the mp name in LISTCUBE is same as right click on the mp and click on display data, where it will give the selecting criteria for the fields. But here both will display the same fields, that is not my case. I am unable to see one of the key figure which is inside the mp, have you opened any mp. Please right click on it and choose display and then go to the key figures folder , if you open that you have lot of folders in it based on the category. IN my case its the stock kf folder and if you expand that there are three kf's out of the three, one is ztotal stock which is declared as non-cumulative kf, rite next to it, option is checked. So I think that is the reson we are not able to see ztotalstock kf , no matter in the listcube or display data option on the mp. Hope you got my situation. I know how to see the data in the multi-provider or infocube. But in this case its not displaying that ztotal stock keyfigure, but in the reporting we can see the data on the mp. My question is why am I not able to see the selection for that ztotal stock key figure , either in listcube or rite clik display data option. Did anybody face this situation.

Hi Sonu,
The main task is to move the contents of the one internal table to another with some condition.
First sort and delete the duplicate entries from the First Internal table like below :
sort it_tab by material ascending date_modified descending.
delete adjacent duplicates from it_tab.
Then move that Internal table contents to another internal table.
Define another internal table with the same structure as you have first internal table and then
Second Step :
it_itab1 = it_itab.
If you are using seperate Header line and Body then you can do like below :
       it_itab1[] = it_itab[].
This will fix the issue.

How to get the opening balances for lessthan selected date in cubes.

my task is to get the opening balances for the selected date.
Ex: If I select date say 31-1-2013, I should get the sum of values which are less than the selected date.
in sql:
select sum(balance) from banktrans where banktrans.transdate < 31-1-2013;

Date will be dynamic selection from years months days hirearchy ( time dimension)
How can i achieve this?

Do all apps have to be rewritten to 'multi-task'?

I only ask because some do multi-task and others don't.
Some like the updated Google app remain at the same place you were when reselected from the taskbar, but most don't, they just reload from scratch when selected in the taskbar.
For example, what would be useful is to be able to come out of a game (for example) to answer an email and be able to go back into the game and continue where you left off. At the moment that is not happening.

The only game of mine working (including a lot of the biggies like Doodlejump, Angry Birds, ParaPanic) is Harbour Master. All the others just restart.

So this sounds silly.. i m kinda confused on how the multi tasking works..right now i am have only 2 apps running in the background phone and messages..does that drain my battery by running or r those frozen..and i feel like the multitask bar is in some cases a shortcut..so what happens if i donr close the phone and messages in the bar when i go to sleep any battery drain?

Think of it as a "Recently Used Apps" bar, instead of a "Multi-task" bar.

If you aren't on a phone call, those apps aren't using any power, so shouldn't affect battery time. There is no need to shut them down.

Why is the ios diagnostics always on my ipad multi tasking bar?

The ios diagnostics is always stuck on the multi tasking bar even though I don't have it on the bar. Can anyone please help me?! It's getting really frustrating!
