Select from Pop-Up Menu return Data

I am trying to build a nutritional information table. Therefore I have Table 1 Sheet 1. The Columns A, B, C, and D are titled Food, Calorie, Carbohydrate, and Protein respectively. I have populated 10 rows of information (i.e. Chicken, 300, 0, 36).
What I want to be able to do is create another table, in this case Table 2, where I build my diet (based on my workouts) from the information listed in Table 1. For example, let's say in Table 2 I want to create Cells A1:A10 as Pop-Up Menus.
When I go to build my diet in Table 2, I would like my diet to consist of 5 food items. Therefore I select Cell A1:A5 in Table 2 which are Pop-Up Menus. All my options are linked to the Food Column in Table 1. After selecting the proper item the respective nutritional information will populate in the following columns.
Table 1
A1 B1 C1 D1 (Food, Calories, Carbohydrates, Protein)
w x y z
Table 2
A1 B1 C1 D1 (Food, Calories, Carbohydrates, Protein)
(A1 is a Pop-Up Menu linked to Table 1 Column A1)
Once I select w in Table 2 A1, Cell B1, C1, D1 will fill in automatically with the information from Table 1.
I hope I explained that clearly enough. If Numbers cannot do this, what do you recommend?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Yes, your formula for column C of table 2 would look something like the one below. The particular row does not matter, you can put this in all of your rows in column C. The first parameter (A) refers to the cell in column A that is in the same row as the formula. The second parameter (Table 1::A) refers to the entire A column of Table 1 (except for headers and footers). And the third (Table 1::C) refers to the entire column C of Table 1. The formula will look in Table 1::A for the value that matches Table 2::A and will return the corresponding value found in Table 1::C.
=LOOKUP(A,Table1::A,Table1::C)

    What is the best way or is it even possible to cache /store

    This is known as a cascading or dependent dropdown. The problem is that the web page needs to be sent to the browser before anyone can make a selection from the first dropdown. To get the dependent value, another request needs to be sent to the server. You can do this with Ajax.
    For example, jQuery makes it relatively simple to work with Ajax. The value selected from the first dropdown is sent in the background as a request to a dedicated script that selects the matching values from the database. Normally, Ajax uses the GET method, so your SQL query would use the $_GET variable to filter the results and send them back to populate the dependent dropdown.
    Dreamweaver cannot do it out of the box. You need to script it all yourself.

    MacBook Pro won't stay asleep with external monitor attached.  When sleep is selected from the Apple menu the computer will go to sleep only to continually wake up...go back to sleep...wake up...etc. every few seconds.  This only happens when using the external monitor. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Mine does that too. The worst thing is when it goes to sleep, then wakes up and keeps running while the lid is closed and it is wrapped up in a case. I am afraid when the hot weather comes it is going to burn up. I am hoping Apple fixes it in the software or they may have a melted MBP to replace.
    Then when I open the lid it is crashed running at fill tilt, pumping out heat to beat the band. I am forced to hold the button down and reboot.
    I wiped my hard disk and reinstalled my OS, but it didn't help. I reversed my OS to 10.5.0 and it solved the DVI problem but still won't sleep. This post will probably be deleted by Apple, they did it a few days ago. I just don't know what to do, and I consider myself a real Apple expert. Just hoping you realize you are not the only one.

  • Is there a formula I can use to link a choice from pop-up menu to a $ amount in adjacent cell?  i.e. if Item 1 is chosen, adjacent cell populates $125.  if Item 2 is chosen, adjacent cell populates $250.

    is there a formula I can use to link a choice from pop-up menu to a $ amount in adjacent cell?  i.e. if Item 1 is chosen, adjacent cell populates $125.  if Item 2 is chosen, adjacent cell populates $250. it seems like this must be possible.  Help please!

    Hi Gabe,
    You could use an IF statement in the second cell.
    Popup in column B, two items: "This", That" (without the quotes)
    Formula in same row of column C
    Format the cell in column C as currency.
    If there are more than two items in the popup menu, it's better to use a lookup table containing the same list as the popup in column A, with the corresponding values in column B:
    C5: =LOOKUP(B,List :: $A,List :: $B)

  • Chart from pop up menu values

    I have a table that lists project names on the Y axis and a month/year designation on the X axis.  For each project, I have a status assigned for each month.  The statuses are selected from a custom pop-up menu in the Numbers table.
    I would like to create a bar chart that uses the same Y and X axis labels, but designate a different color for each status and have it displayed on the bar.  Attached below is a graphic of a manually updated table in Excel that I would like to automate in Numbers.

    Wayne's suggestions regarding software dedicated to this purpose is well taken. Here are some further thoughts on using Numbers to produce a GANT-like chart.
    The first is similar to what you appear to have done in Excel—each month is represented by a coloured cell. In the example below, I've used a pop=up menu in each cell to select one of the stages in your projects, and conditional formatting to set the colour of the cell and the text according to the choice made.
    I chose slightly different colours for the text and fill so that the text resulting in the colours can be seen. Pretty much a hands-pn do-it-yourself solution; no bells or whistles at this point.
    The second, below is a bit closer to automated, but has some flaws, nted below the images.
    "Data" is the table on which the start dates for each stage are recorded. Where one stage is skipped (as in Project 2) the 'start' date for that stage (evaluation) is set to the same date as for the next stage.
    For chart is an auxiliary table, where DATEDIF(start,finish) is used to calculate the number of days between beginning and end of each stage. The chart is a Stacked Bar Chart, with the first bar's fill set to 'none'.
    For Chart uses three fomulas:
    A2: =Data :: A2
    This copies the project name from the first column of "Data". Fill down from A2.
    B2: =IFERROR(DATEDIF($A$1,Data :: D2,"D"),"")
    Fill down to the end of column B.
    A1 of this table contains the date and time value for the last day of the previous year (Dec 31, 2011 00:00:00). I've left this displayed , but it could be hidden.
    Data::D2 contains the start date for the first stage (Exploring) of the project.
    C2: =IFERROR(DATEDIF(Data :: D2,Data :: E2,"D"),"")
    Fill down the rest of column C, and right to column F (Delivery).
    This is the same formula as in column B. It differs only in the cell references containing the dates between which the difference is calculated.
    The chart is constructed by selecting cells B2:F5 on For Chart, then choosing the (horizontal) stacked bar chart from the Chart button's menu. Click the three bars icon that appears at the top left of the selected cells to change from 'series in column' to 'series in row'.
    Limitations:
    Except for a scatter chart,Numbers charts cannot use Date and Time values on a Value axis. Here, I've used numbers representing the day-of-year number.
    Numbers permits a maximum of 10 divisions on a Value axis, which isn't enough to break a year into months. The best possible, for appearance, is to set the maximum to 360 days, then use six divsions, each 60 days, to place the vertical grid lines.
    If you also fix the size of the chart, you could replace these numbers along the x axis with the equivalent dates, entered into one or more text boxes, then spaced to match the chart's vertical grid lines (and points between these lines).
    An interesting exercise, but not, I'm afraid, a fantastic solution.

    Barry

  • Select from 4 tables but include data from 3 even if 4th is null

    Hello -
    I'm quite new to oracle and apex, but enjoying learning - but sometimes I need a gentle nudge to know what I need to learn about.
    I have a select statement that works - selecting specific columns from 3 tables:
    SELECT
    "TERRITORIES"."TER_NAME" "TER_NAME",
    "TERRITORY_TYPES"."TTP_DESCRIPTION" "TTP_DESCRIPTION",
    "COUNTRIES"."CNT_DESCRIPTION" "COUNTRY"
    FROM
    "TERRITORIES", "TERRITORY_TYPES","COUNTRIES"
    WHERE
    "TERRITORIES"."TER_TTP_ID"="TERRITORY_TYPES"."TTP_ID"
    and
    "COUNTRIES"."CNT_TER_ID"="TERRITORIES"."TER_ID"
    I want to add in a 4th table for, you guessed it, States.
    However, many of the countries do not yet have states in the states table (and may never have any). Therefore, they do not appear in the results. I want them included in the query, so that I'll have the opportunity to add in the data via Apex.
    Is there a phrase I can insert in the 1st query so that I'll get data for Territory Type, Territory and Country, even if the State table is null?
    Or, do I need to insert records into the state table, such as: insert into states (state_ID, STATE_CNT_ID) values (state_seq.nextval,2). If so, do I just do that over and over, replacing the value? Or is this where I need to learn about bind variables? Or some other command?
    Thank you-

    I FIGURED IT OUT! I DID IT! How do I mark myself as helpful???
    insert INTO states
    (state_ID, STATE_CNT_ID)
    SELECT state_seq.nextval, cnt_id
    FROM countries
    WHERE not exists (select * from states where states.state_cnt_id = countries.cnt_id)
    Edited by: mtpaper on Oct 24, 2009 1:10 PM

    You certainly could insert data into the STATES table, but I generally wouldn't advise inserting rows into a STATES table for states that don't actually exist. It would seem to make far more sense to just do an outer join when you include the STATES table in your query
    SELECT "TERRITORIES"."TER_NAME" "TER_NAME",
           "TERRITORY_TYPES"."TTP_DESCRIPTION" "TTP_DESCRIPTION",
           "COUNTRIES"."CNT_DESCRIPTION" "COUNTRY",
           s.state_name
      FROM TERRITORIES t ,
           TERRITORY_TYPES tt,
           COUNTRIES c,
           states s
    WHERE "TERRITORIES"."TER_TTP_ID"="TERRITORY_TYPES"."TTP_ID"
       and "COUNTRIES"."CNT_TER_ID"="TERRITORIES"."TER_ID"
       and c.cnt_id = s.state_cnt_id(+)The {noformat}(+){noformat} operator indicates that you want to do an outer join. So if there is no row in the STATES table that matches the join condition, a NULL is returned.
    From a purely stylistic standpoint, I would generally suggest using aliases (i.e. the T, TT, C, and S in the FROM clause) rather than having to constantly write out all the table names. And I wouldn't suggest putting double-quotes around everything-- that forces all your identifiers to be upper case and case sensitive.

  • PREVIEW - Where is the "SELECT" toolbar pop-up menu?

    I'm using Preview Version 6.0.1 (765.4) and MacOS 10.8.2.  I want to separate an image from its background. To do this I need to go to the Toolbar, open 'Select' and then choose Instant Alpha.
    Problem is I can't find the Select pop-up menu.
    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11373233/MacDiscussions/Preview/Screen%20Shot%202013-01 -26%20at%2015.21.47.png
    Preview Help says "If you can’t see the Select pop-up menu in the toolbar, you may need to resize the window."
    I've tried all sorts of window sizes but none have made the Select menu option manifest itself. I suppose that it's possible that my interpretation of "resize the window" may be different from Apple's.  But I don't know.
    I've also tried Customize Toolbar in the View menu but the Select menu option isn't there to drag to the Toolbar.
    I've tried resaving the file from jpeg to PDF and working on that instead, but still can find no Select option.
    Does anyone know why I can't find the Select menu in Preview's Toolbar?

    You may have to drag the image wider in order to see the instant alpha tools etc on the right side.

    Hi Leroydouglas
    Thank you for your reply.
    leroydouglas wrote:

    First thing I tried. Made no difference.
    leroydouglas wrote:

    Interesting point.  As I said, I have done all this of course,. Hence I doubted my interpretation of the Help Page instructions.
    However I find, even now, that when I drag the right edge of the window over to what would be half way across my second screen if it were connected (it is disconnected right now because the monitor has died and I haven't replaced it yet) still all I can get are the options as far right as the crop tool.  That's it.
    There are 2 short cuts:
    shift-command-\   ( same as command-| )
    shift-command-a
    I found them to be -
    shift-command-\
    shift-command-a ( same as command-| )
    But, what the heck, who cares? Neither keystroke made any difference.
    Might be a clue though?
    Again, thanks for taking the trouble to reply, Leroy.  Much appreciated my friend.

  • Select from Oracle to MySQL returns only one row

    Environment:
    The Oracle Developer Days Virtual Box image, so that's 11gR2 EE on OEL
    MySQL 5.1.51-community
    mysql-connector-odbc-5.1.7-0.i386.rpm
    unixODBC 2.3.0
    I got the connection working, I can insert, update and delete records in the MySQL DB from Oracle (SQL Plus).
    But when I enter select * from "employees"@mysql I only get the first record returned.
    If I enter select * from "employees"@mysql order by "id" desc, I only get the last one...
    If I enter select count(*) from "employees"@mysql, I get the - correct - result of 3.
    So, how do I get the complete set of (all) records from a MySQL table in Oracle? Is there some kind of setting or is this intended behavior and do I have to create a PL/SQL loop and put the results into a collection or something like that?

    I've create a table like yours:
    create table gateway.employees(id int(10) auto_increment,
    first_name varchar(30),
    last_name varchar(100),
    personal_code varchar(20),
    birthday date,
    salary decimal(10,2),
    is_active int(1),
    PRIMARY KEY (id));
    insert into gateway.employees (first_name,last_name) values ('Name 1', 'Name 1');
    insert into gateway.employees (first_name,last_name) values ('Name 2', 'Name 2');
    insert into gateway.employees (first_name,last_name) values ('Name 3', 'Name 3');
    insert into gateway.employees (first_name,last_name) values ('Name 4', 'Name 4');
    insert into gateway.employees (first_name,last_name) values ('Name 5', 'Name 5');
    select * from gateway.employees;
    and tested it using DataDirect and MySQL ODBC.
    The DataDirect shows all 5 lines whereas MySQL 5.1.0.7 ODBC shows only 1 row.
    (isql isn't using extended fetching like DG4ODBC does).

    Here the result (fetching ID column):
    MySQl ODBC;
    SQL> select "id" from "employees"@MYSQL_EMGTW_1121_DB;
    id
    1
    DD ODBC V6:
    SQL> select "id" from "employees"@DD60_MYSQL_EMGTW_1121_DB;
    id
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    Edited by: kgronau on Nov 4, 2010 4:33 PM
    The 32bit version of MySQL ODBC (5.1.5 - no 5.1.7 release yet installed) works also:
    SQL> select "id" from "employees"@MYSQL_32;
    id
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    => so it is an ODBC issue

  • Selecting from a function that returns a sys refcursor or an alternative

    I have a query that returns a resultset of three columns, namely SSN,PAID_YEAR and PAID_TOTAL. From this query I can:
    Create a view and then query it.
    Create a function and return resultset
    If I go the first way a simple query like the following takes more than 20 seconds:
    SELECT PAID_YEAR,PAID_TOTAL FROM VIEW_1 WHERE SSN=12345678912882;
    I know that is because when I query a view the engine first brings all the rows of the view and then it filters the rows for the criteria supplied.
    If I go the second way I can send a parameter and make the engine look only for those rows that match the condition and return the recordset. But I do not know how to then SELECT from that returned resultset. I took a look at pipelined tables but didn't quite get how to benefit them. So my ultimate question is if it's somehow possible to select from the resultset that is returned from a function like this:
    SELECT * FROM FUNCTION_1(12132323232).
    If yes, then how, if no, what would be an alternative way?

    I know that is because when I query a view the engine first brings all the rows of the view and then it filters the rows for the criteria supplied.
    No - you don't 'know that' because it isn't true. Just check the explain plan for yourself. Oracle can still use any appropriate indexes so that only the rows needed are returned.
    So my ultimate question is if it's somehow possible to select from the resultset that is returned from a function like this:
    SELECT * FROM FUNCTION_1(12132323232).
    No - you can't do it like that. You have to use the TABLE function to treat the function result set as a table:
    'SELECT * FROM TABLE(FUNCTION_1(12132323232)).
    -- type to match emp record
    create or replace type emp_scalar_type as object
      (EMPNO NUMBER(4) ,
       ENAME VARCHAR2(10),
       JOB VARCHAR2(9),
       MGR NUMBER(4),
       HIREDATE DATE,
       SAL NUMBER(7, 2),
       COMM NUMBER(7, 2),
       DEPTNO NUMBER(2)
    -- table of emp records
    create or replace type emp_table_type as table of emp_scalar_type
    -- pipelined function
    create or replace function get_emp( p_deptno in number )
      return emp_table_type
      PIPELINED
      as
       TYPE EmpCurTyp IS REF CURSOR RETURN emp%ROWTYPE;
        emp_cv EmpCurTyp;
        l_rec  emp%rowtype;
      begin
        open emp_cv for select * from emp where deptno = p_deptno;
        loop
          fetch emp_cv into l_rec;
          exit when (emp_cv%notfound);
          pipe row( emp_scalar_type( l_rec.empno, LOWER(l_rec.ename),
              l_rec.job, l_rec.mgr, l_rec.hiredate, l_rec.sal, l_rec.comm, l_rec.deptno ) );
        end loop;
        return;
      end;
    select * from table(get_emp(20))

  • Selecting from Multiple Tables but requiring data to match from a 3rd table

    Hello Everyone,
    I'm having alot of trouble with this select
    I have three tables:
    prod_poured, conc_test, and cyl_breakTo put together my report, I need to grab this data:
    cyl_break.pour_no "Pour Number", cyl_break.cyl_id "Cylinder ID", cyl_break.pour_d "Pour Date", conc_test.mix "Mix #", conc_test.amb_t "Ambient Temperature", conc_test.conc_t "Concrete Temperature", conc_test.air "Air %", cyl_break.break_d "Break Date", cyl_break.age "Age (Days)", cyl_break.spec_str "Specified Strength", cyl_break.str "Specimen Strength"and I need it to grab all data in those two tables when one column in the prod_poured table meets a certain condition
    This is what I have so far:
    select cyl_break.pour_no "Pour Number", cyl_break.cyl_id "Cylinder ID", cyl_break.pour_d "Pour Date", conc_test.mix "Mix #", conc_test.amb_t "Ambient Temperature", conc_test.conc_t "Concrete Temperature", conc_test.air "Air %", cyl_break.break_d "Break Date", cyl_break.age "Age (Days)", cyl_break.spec_str "Specified Strength", cyl_break.str "Specimen Strength"
    from conc_test inner join cyl_break on conc_test.pour_no = cyl_break.pour_no, prod_poured
    where conc_test.pour_no = prod_poured.test_id and prod_poured.job_no = '9-12-821';It gives me the right results but wayyy too many of them so obviously I've got something wrong.
    the results it gives are this:

    I can't seem to wrap my mind around this one and if somebody could put together a proper select based on what I need that would be extremely helpful. If you need any more data to provide help just ask and I'll paste it.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Here are the create table statements:
    create table conc_test
    (p_date date, job_no varchar, mix varchar, pour_no varchar, amb_t varchar, conc_t varchar, slump varchar, air varchar, density varchar, cyl_cast_time timestamp)
    create table cyl_break
    (job_no varchar, pour_no varchar, cyl_id varchar, pour_d varchar, break_d varchar, age varchar, spec_str varchar, str varchar, mix);
    create table prod_poured
    (prod_id varchar, pour_id varchar, test_id varchar);
    Great!
    Don't forget to post the INSERT statements, and the output from that data (if it is different from what you posted in your first message).
    Basically I need to pull the data I showed above out of conc_test and cyl_break, but only data that has the proper job_number which is retrieved from the prod_poured table. The prod_poured test_id for everything that has the proper prod_poured job_no So an IN-subquery, like Sudhakar and I suggested, should work.
    What was the problem when you tried them? Post the query you ran, even if you just copied and pasted it from this thread: there may have be an editing error.
    prod_poured test_id is the same thing as conc_test pour_no and cyl_break pour_noExactly! But that doesn't answer the question: Is that value unique in all the tables? If not, in which tables can it be duplicated?

  • How to select from drop-down menu connected to SQL database and then autofill?

    Hello,
    I am in the process of creating a series of forms and I need some help if working out how to do the following.
    I have already set up a data connection to an SQL database, and I have three fields connected: Job Number, Job Name and Customer Name.
    What I want to do is have it so that the Job Number is a dropdown box, so they can select the number, and then the other two fields, Job Name and Customer Name, are autofilled to the information corresponding to the Job Number.
    Is anyone able to help me do this please??
    Thank you!!

    The 101 of database connections from LiveCycle Designer can be found in Stefan Camerons blog.

    Hi Neil,
    This is usually done with one of the Lookup functions, such as VLOOKUP:
    The basic formula is: =VLOOKUP(D,'Table 1-1' :: $A:$B,2,FALSE)
    To keep the cells in the bottom five rows 'empty' until an entry is made in column D, the basic formula is placed in an IF statement: =IF(LEN(D)>0,VLOOKUP(D,'Table 1-1' :: $A:$B,2,FALSE),"")
    And to catch errors in data entry (such as the one in row 5), that formula is enclosed in an IFERROR statement:
    E2: =IFERROR(IF(LEN(D)>0,VLOOKUP(D,Price list :: $A:$B,2,FALSE),""),"Not found")
    The last is the formula used in the table above. Enter in E2, then Fill down the rest of the column.
