Let the application know that the Quit is selected from dock icon menu

I'm building dock icon menu for the Air application, is there a way for me to know if the 'Quit' from the context menu on the Dock icon is selected? I've looked at 'closing' it is not what I'm looking for as this is also dispatched when the X button on the application is clicked.
Thanks.

The trick was to handle 'EXITING' event

  • How will I be notified if there's an update to an iBook? How will the publisher know that the update is live?

    Couldn't find answers anywhere. Thanks.

To answer your other question (posted here so others can see it)
So what about the apps—lets say I have iannotate and if it comes out with an update? Or any other new app that requires iOS6 am I just SOL?
If an update is offered in the App Store, install it; if it requires a later version of iOS 6 an update simply won't appear. Existing versions of the apps will continue to run as they always have.
As is the case with all software, developers eventually stop improving apps when they conclude there is no return on investing in updates for earlier versions of the operating system. It doesn't mean you're "SOL", it just means that no additional improvements will be offered.
There are literally hundreds of millions of iOS devices in use. None are yet running iOS 6 (developer releases excepted). Therefore it is likely that iOS 5, and the original iPad, will be supported for a long, long time.

  • How do I let a vi know that sweeps are complete?

I am very new to Labview and I have just set up a vi that allows me to average the data in channel 1 as trace A (LeCro 9354AM). I was wondering if there was a way to let the vi 'know' that the sweeps are finished so that I can move to the next operation automatically.

Have you looked in the LeCroy programmer's manual for a command that queries the instrument if sweep is complete?
If such a command does not exist, then you could query the instrument for the sweep time after configuring the sweep parameters.  You would start a sweep and wait the duration of the sweep and then cpntinue with the code.  The wait time would adapt to the sweep time.  There must be a sweep time query command for that particular model.

  • I downloaded the OS X on my air and I can't use my keyboard and it won't let me restart my computer because it says that the application assistant canceled the shut down, I don't know what to do

I downloaded the OS X on my air and I can't use my keyboard and it won't let me restart my computer because it says that the application assistant canceled the shut down, I don't know what to do

When all else fails (it sounds like it has) hold the power button for about 10 seconds. This shuts down the computer. Then tap it to restart. Since it sounds like the OS upgrade began but then failed to perform a restart you may find that the Install Mavericks file is still in the Applications folder and you can try again. Or you might find that you have to redownload. I don't think the installation is going to proceed as if the computer had successfully restarted but I could be wrong (and in this case gladly so for your sake.)

  • Logout has timed out because the application Mail failed to quit.

Hello world... (Mac world that is)
The message says more "Logout has timed out because the application Mail failed to quit. To try again, quit Mail and choose Log Out from the Apple menu."
I tried everything. Still does not let me shut down.
Other programs will not shut down at this time, including Finder. I also know that the Time Machine icon has been spinning for over an hour. So I imagine we are in a loop of sorts.
Unfortunately, I have had similar troubles before that I did not record. So I figure I start now and see if somebody out there can help me.
    Peace!
    Chopo

I'm having the same problem (can't logout, shut down or restart), but the referenced solution doesn't seem to apply. I do not get a "Cannot connect to server" message, I just get a "Logout has timed out" message. It seemed to happen after an automatic software update that was supposed to involve a restart, but it hasn't been able to restart since.
Can you please clarify, what is meant by "delete the AutoLaunchedApplicationDictionary, which is located under the root node" (with reference to file loginwindow.plist)?
This is what the loginwindow.plist file looks like now:
    bplist00Ñ!AutoLaunchedApplicationDictionary¢ÒTPathTHide-/Library/Printers/hp/hpio/HPEventHandler.app/Ò _N/Library/Application Support/Hewlett-Packard/Software Update/HP Scheduler.app//27
I was at the genius bar earlier, and they said I need to 'archive and install' in order to 'reset the OS'... but there's got to be a better answer than that, no? Perhaps this plist thing? I'm surprised that even powering off the imac doesn't reset anything... it just comes back the way it was. I'm supposed to bring the 25 inch imac in to the mac store for surgery (archive and install), but seeing several similar cases on this discussion forum, without archive and install identified as the clear solution, I'm in search of a second opinion... or any suggestion for how to simply make this work the way it was before? Is it 10.5.4 that is causing this? Should I go back to 10.5.3?
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

    Stephanie

Drag the Safari icon straight up and off the Dock so it goes, "poof" ...
Now click and hold the Safari app in the Applications folder and drag that to the Dock.
See if you can open a webpage in Safari.

  • Using Gimpshop - the application gimp-2.2 quit unexpectedly

    Hi there,
When I try to open the gimp.app program, first a window pops up that says "caching fonts" and another window with a header 'xterm' comes up and in the xterm window it says "bash-3.2$".
After a minute or so, the "the application gimp-2.2 quit unexpectedly" message appears.
X11 seems to be running when all this happens although I don't know what X11 is or does.
    Hope someone can help

I had the exact same problem with gimpshop and os 10.5.7
I just downloaded the latest version today for the first time. any suggestions?

  • The application HPIO trap monitor quit unexpectedly?/??

I just updated to Leopard and I repeatedly get the error message box that says "The application HPIO trap monitor quit unexpectedly" Then it gives me three choices..ignore which keeps it offf for a few minutes and then it pops back up, report, same thing and relaunch..it immediately comes back. Does anyone know what the HPIO trap monitor is and what I can do to stop this super annoying box from popping up ? btw Happy New Year

It's the startup item associated with an HP printer—HP input/output trap monitor. Your best bet is to reinstall the latest HP software available for your printer. I'm running an HP PSC 1510 AIO and the trap monitor daemon isn't crashing. Downloads at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=4 28800&os=219&lang=en&

  • My apple RIP gives this error message" the application ppRIPe has unexpectedly quit"

MY APPLE RIP GIVES THIS ERROR MESSAGE" the application ppRIPe has unexpectedly quit"

    Thanks.
I should have mentioned that I have already done the Resolving Permissions as outline on Apple Support pages, but, I went ahead and did the complete sequence as shown on Dr. Smokes.
I decided to stop beating a dead horse and did an Erase and Install of 10.2 again since I did not have anything on there yet. So far, everything is working perfectly. I am doing the Software Updates called for one by one to see if any of those caused the problem.
The only thing I did other than doing all of the updates after the install was to install OS 9.2 for my Classic Environment software and I also installed an HP PSC 1315v All-In-One scanner/printer. I cannot imagine that would have done anything.
I did have some strange issues with Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego and The Star Fleet Technical manual so I may stay away from them unless I start in OS 9 if none of the other updates cause any issues.
Thanks. BTW, How should I rate your answer? I know that it did not solve my problem, but, it is likely that something else I did whacked something.
I'll update when I know more.

  • The application iPhoto has unexpectedly quit.

About a month ago my iPhoto just never opens anymore and always crashes.

I click on the iPhoto icon and it starts "uploading photos" and then I get the following message:

I always submit a report but no one has been able to help me.

    Hi everyone,
I tried all things mentioned above, but none worked.
    Martin,
your's is the most accurate assesment, I think this probem started when I downloaded the latest version of iTunes (with it comes Quicktime 7.1.3).
Everyone, please let me know if Apple comes up with a fix, or if you think of anything else.
I really appreciate your time and help dedicated to this, lets hope I can fix it soon.
My wife is desperate for the pictures.

  • The application mail has unexpectedly quit.

While on the web if I go to a contact us link or any other mail application
    I get this error message...
The Application Mail Has Unexpectedly Quit.
The system has not been affected.
Would you like to submit a bug report to Apple?
(I have submitted several bug reports)
I have to leave the site and go to my e-mail and type in the address and mail them from there.
    Help
    mreyeman / Scott

I’m hesitant to try to help you here because your last post gives the impression that you want Roger to do that instead of me, but since Roger hasn’t replied to your last post, and for the benefit of other users who might also have the same problem, I’ll reply anyway...
It seems that, when you talk about “my e-mail”, you’re actually talking about webmail and don’t use the Mail application included with Mac OS X nor any other standard mail client to access your mail at all.
Let’s fix the problem of Mail crashing first. Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Whoever gave you the computer probably left his/her mail data there. If there is something wrong with those files, that could be the reason Mail crashes every time. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/ and move the entire Mail folder out of there, to the Desktop. Now, go to ~/Library/Preferences/ and move com.apple.mail.plist to the Desktop as well. Alternatively, if you don’t want to preserve the data stored there, you may just trash those files (the Mail folder, not the application itself, and com.apple.mail.plist).
Now, there is the problem of Mail opening when you click on a ‘mailto’ URL. Until just a few months ago, there was no solution to this problem because webmail isn’t a standard mail client. But it’s now possible to solve it using the following piece of software:
    http://www.belkadan.com/webmailer/
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop.. won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not... need to fix this

When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop... won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not

If you are using Photoshop from within iPhoto the following may help with the workflow.  However, we do need to know the answers to the questions posed by Terence and Larry to be able to help you.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

Well we are at 10.4.11 right now and 10.4.6 if I recall correctly was a nasty version. I'm running CS2 on 10.4.11 with no constant crashing. You always have the one off goofy crash every once in a while.

  • I have this message appearing "the application finder has unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows"... someone PLEASE help

I have this message appearing "the application finder has unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows"...
So far it doesn't appear to be effecting anything that i can see on my imac BUT it is incredibly annoying and popping up at bad times, and it all happened when my imac automatically updated itself. So annoying. PLEASE help!!!

Finder crashes are often caused by "Google Drive." If it's installed, I suggest you first check for an update. If that doesn't solve the problem, remove it according to the developer's instructions. You may need to start the computer in safe mode to do so. Back up all data before making any changes.
If you use Google Drive and don't want to remove it, then try deselecting the option in its preferences to "show status icons." According to reports, that may be enough to stop the crashing.
Similar cloud-data clients such as "Dolly Drive," "iDrive," "Open Drive," "Transporter Desktop," and others can cause the same problem.
