SELECT LIST about...

Hello.
Is there any way to create multiple 'select list's. That each one depending on each other? There are three 'select list' in my case.
First - city
Second - department
Third - Person
Of course, if I change 'city' one I want other two to change automatically BUT - without reloading page! Is it possible? There are department with very low connection rate - often reloading page - is very expensive for them..

Why there is no answer? Are my question silly?Well...there are a few reasons for that -
1) It's the weekend
2) You have waited less than an hour for a reply.
3) Nobody is 'paid' to provide support on these forums, we all do it for free in our (limited) spare time (see point 1)
Yes what you have asked is achievable, take a look at the following blog posting by Scott Spendolini which you should be able to use and adapt

  • $x_Hide/Show/Toggle works on a button, how about select list or tabs

    ** After looking at the issue for days I think everyone must know what I am trying to do and a Carl pointed out they don't so here is the Readers Digest Condensed version.
    I want have a single page that displays or hides regions depending on what the user want to do. So there is a single region that provides summary data and multiple regions for updates or reports that only show when that option is selected. I have got it working with buttons, thanks to Carl for his examples and numerous posts.
    Now the powers that be see that as too much clutter on the screen and want a select list for the options, as there may be 10 or 12 options on a single "page." Hopefully this clarifies what I am trying to do.
    I don't see anyway for it to work on tabs, at least not the tab sets in ApEx but select list have a "Display As" option for "Select List Returning URL redirect."
    This sounds like the button "Optional URL Redirect" property. I have the code working on buttons on the same page so I added a select list and tried it.
    The #REGION_STATIC_ID# is set up on the template of the region type being used and the regions hide and show as expected with the buttons.
    So I set up an item on the page as a "Select List Returning URL redirect"
    I created a static select list as:
    STATIC2:Option1;javascript:$x_Hide('REGION1');$x_Hide('REGION2');$x_Show('REGION3')
    I tried it with single quotes around the returning URL, and got
    mod_plsql: /pls/htmldb/'javascript:$x_Hide('COBORROWER');$x_Hide('PROPERTY');$x_Show('BORROWER')' HTTP-400 Name "'javascript:$x_Hide('COBORROWER');$x_Hide('PROPERTY');$x_Show('BORROWER')'" is longer than 30 chars
    without single quotes and got
    New, blank screen with REGION3
    mod_plsql: /pls/htmldb/'javascript:$x_Hide('REGION1');$x_Hide('REGION2');$x_Show('REGION3')' HTTP-400 Name "'javascript:$x_Hide('REGION1');$x_Hide('REGION2');$x_Show('REGION3')'" is longer than 30 chars
    I took out the java stuff and put www.yahoo.com and got
    Not Found
    The requested URL /pls/htmldb/WWW.YAHOO.COM was not found on this server.
    So the URL is being appended to the /pls/htmldb...
    Hmm... I also removed "javascript:" and tried with and without single quotes... no luck... still appending the returning URL to /pls/htmldb/.
    Tabs would be best but a drop down list is cleaner than 8 buttons.
    Ideas? Spare change?
    I may need it :)

    What a difference a day and a pointer make.
    I created a test function in the page html header
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function test(){
    window.alert('Function test');
    </script>
    Changed the static list to
    static2:Option1;javascript:test(),Option2;javascript:test()
    and the function worked. I then changed the function to
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function test(){
    $x_Toggle('REGION1');
    </script>
    and the region toggled on and off.
    I then changed the select list to
    static2:Option1;javascript:test(),Option2;javascript:$x_Toggle('REGION2')
    and region1 toggled while Option 2 produced a blank browser page with the "REGION2" in the upper left hand corner.
    I made functions for Option1, 2 and 3 with the appropriate $x_Hide/Show for each region and the select list now acts like the buttons.
    Thanks for the help. I guess the call has an issue with the functions that are not on the page or ???. Maybe Carl can help, but since I needed more complex functions anyway this does not represent any more work while allowing me the option of a single page with multiple forms and reducing the complexity of the UI.
    Score...

  • Multiple Select List looping thru PL/SQL function body returning SQL query

    Hi,
    I have a Multiple Select List. I want to loop through the values from the Select List and process them in a PL/SQL function body returning a SQL query. Currently, my code only returns the SQL SELECT results of one item in the select list. How do I change my code to make it return the results of all of the items in the select list? (I tested it and it is definitely picking up all the values in the select list).

    Thank you,
    Laura

    Laura,
    First, I would be careful of introducing SQL Injection possibilities. Any time I see
    'Select ... ' || :P123_FOO || ' ... '
    I worry about sql injection. In your case you are converting :P50_SELECTED_INSTRUMENTS into selected_items and then selected_items into s. So when I see
    'WHERE TO_CHAR(orig_geo_loc_sys) LIKE ''' || s ||'%'' '||
    I think, "I could use sql Injection and hack this."
    So, I would do some validation on :P50_SELECTED_INSTRUMENTS or some other method to avoid this.
    I'm not certain I understand your query. Do you really intend to allow the user to select the beginning of a string and then find all rows that start with that string? Or, do you just want to let them find when it matches the string. This is one way if you want to do matching:
    DECLARE
    selected_items HTMLDB_APPLICATION_GLOBAL.VC_ARR2;
    s VARCHAR2(32767);
    q varchar2(32767);
    BEGIN
    -- Change the : separate string to be comma separated with quoted strings
    s := '''' || replace(:P50_SELECTED_INSTRUMENTS, ',', ''',''')|| '''' ;
    -- htp.p('COUNT: '||selected_items.count);
    q:= 'SELECT '||
    'SUBSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,1,INSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,''-'')-1) AS INSTRUMENT, '||
    'SUBSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,INSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,''-'')+1, LENGTH'||
    ' (orig_geo_loc_sys)) AS ORIG_LINENUM, '||
    'sum(orig_intrl) orig_intrl, '||
    'sum(orig_extrl) orig_extrl, '||
    'sum(recv_intrl) recv_intrl, '||
    'sum(recv_extrl) recv_extrl '||
    'FROM line_usage_sum_view '||
    'WHERE TO_CHAR(orig_geo_loc_sys) in (' || s ||' ) '||
    --'WHERE TO_CHAR(orig_geo_loc_sys) LIKE ''2213003%'' '||
    'AND switch_id = ''' || :P1_SWITCH_ID || ''' ' ||
    'AND call_start_date > TO_DATE(''30-NOV-1999'') ' ||
    'AND call_clear_time > TO_DATE(''30-NOV-1999'') '||
    'AND '||
    :SORTFIELD||' BETWEEN '||
    'TO_DATE(:STARTDATE,''dd-MON-YYYY HH24:MI'') AND '||
    'TO_DATE(:STOPDATE, ''dd-MON-YYYY HH24:MI'') '||
    'GROUP BY GROUPING SETS (orig_geo_loc_sys)';
    -- htp.p('SQL query: '||q);
    RETURN q;
    END;
    If you want to do something more like you originally stated, try this:
    DECLARE
    selected_items HTMLDB_APPLICATION_GLOBAL.VC_ARR2;
    s VARCHAR2(20);
    q varchar2(32767);
    BEGIN
    selected_items := HTMLDB_UTIL.STRING_TO_TABLE(:P50_SELECTED_INSTRUMENTS);
    -- htp.p('COUNT: '||selected_items.count);
    q:= 'SELECT '||
    'SUBSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,1,INSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,''-'')-1) AS INSTRUMENT, '||
    'SUBSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,INSTR(orig_geo_loc_sys,''-'')+1, LENGTH'||
    ' (orig_geo_loc_sys)) AS ORIG_LINENUM, '||
    'sum(orig_intrl) orig_intrl, '||
    'sum(orig_extrl) orig_extrl, '||
    'sum(recv_intrl) recv_intrl, '||
    'sum(recv_extrl) recv_extrl '||
    'FROM line_usage_sum_view '||
    'WHERE 1=1 ';
    FOR i in 1..selected_items.count LOOP
    s := TO_CHAR(selected_items(i));
    q := q || ' and TO_CHAR(orig_geo_loc_sys) LIKE '''|| s ||'%'' ' ;
    END LOOP;
    q := q || ||'%'' '||
    --'WHERE TO_CHAR(orig_geo_loc_sys) LIKE ''2213003%'' '||
    'AND switch_id = ''' || :P1_SWITCH_ID || ''' ' ||
    'AND call_start_date > TO_DATE(''30-NOV-1999'') ' ||
    'AND call_clear_time > TO_DATE(''30-NOV-1999'') '||
    'AND '||
    :SORTFIELD||' BETWEEN '||
    'TO_DATE(:STARTDATE,''dd-MON-YYYY HH24:MI'') AND '||
    'TO_DATE(:STOPDATE, ''dd-MON-YYYY HH24:MI'') '||
    'GROUP BY GROUPING SETS (orig_geo_loc_sys)';
    -- htp.p('SQL query: '||q);
    RETURN q;

  • LOV single selection list is not working in my JDeveloper 10.1.2.3

    Hi!
    I'm stumped with this. I'm also new to JDeveloper. I used the sample tutorial from the OTN website entitled "JSPDataBoundLists.jws" to learn how to create drop-down lists in JDeveloper.
    My problem is I created a single selection list LOV from DepartmentListView Data Control and pasted it into an EmployeesView Input form. This is so I can just select the Department names to populate the DepartmentID field in Employees table. I setup the data binding in the UI Model of my jsp using the "List Binding Editor". I checked the UIModel file and it looks as follows:
    <DCControl
    id="DepartmentId2"
    SubType="DCListSingleSel"
    IterBinding="EmployeesViewIterator"
    DTClass="oracle.adf.dt.objects.JUDTCtrlListLOV"
    ApplyValidation="false"
    isDynamic="false"
    ListOperMode="0"
    ListIter="DepartmentsListViewIterator" >
    <AttrNames>
    <Item Value="DepartmentId" />
    </AttrNames>
    <ListAttrNames>
    <Item Value="DepartmentId" />
    </ListAttrNames>
    <ListDisplayAttrNames>
    <Item Value="DepartmentName" />
    </ListDisplayAttrNames>
    </DCControl>
    I run the jsp, selected a value from the drop-down list, do a submit and do a commit, but the DepartmentId from the DepartmentsListView was not stored in Employees. What is wierd here is that there is an exact same single selection list defined a row above mine which is working fine. How come that one is working and mine is not?

    Eureka! I finally found the answer to my own question!
    This simple problem of adding a drop-down list into a jsp page cost me 3 whole days (around 24 full working hours) to find the answer. Normally it only takes me a few minutes with the other web app languages I've learned. And I just stumbled into the answer just a few minutes ago (maybe all thanks should be given to God whom let me stumble into the answer since me and my wife have been praying for several weeks now ever since I started trying to learn Oracle JDeveloper. It is really very very difficult and time consuming to learn compared to other web app languages and tools).
    Anyway, the reason why my LOV does not work in my jsps using JDeveloper 10.1.2.3 is because JDeveloper 10.1.2.3 seems to allow only one input-form-element for the same field of the input table!
    For example, what happened to me was I had an input form created for the Employees table in the HR schema. I did this simply by drag-and-drop from the "Data Control Palette". This feature I like very much with JDeveloper. It is really easy and works instantly. And then, I drag-and-drop the departmentname field from the Departments table as a "single selection list" into the jsp and setup its bindings. So when I run the jsp, viola! The drop-down list does not populate the DepartmentId field of the Employees table. IT DOES NOT WORK! I've tried reinstalling both JDev and Oracle db and JDKs to no avail! I tried posting in this forum to no avail! I tried experimenting with newly created jsps to no avail! Then suddenly after repeatedly experimenting on this on different tutorials, guides and my own web app, it works! Why did it work? It was because I tried to add an LOV-single-selection-list on another sample tutorial with a READ-ONLY FORM on the jsp! Thus only the LOV is the input-form-element in the jsp for the table's field.
    So why can't you find such a simple and basic fact anywhere in the web, the tutorials, guides or the forum? I do not know. Maybe only I am using such an old version of JDev? But what about the users who used it when it just got out a couple of years ago? Didn't they have the same problem? Anyway, it seems like the answer to a lot of my simple basic questions about JDeveloper is not documented, or is buried very deep beneath all the other words of all these documents. Hopefully JDeveloper's documentations would get a lot easier to use very very soon!

  • Making Read Only A select List Item

    Hi,
    I am using Application Express 3.1.1.00.09 version.
    If the date field is future date then the Select List field should become Read only.
    I tried to make "read only".
    When I made it "read only" '>[] is displayed???
    Does some one have a solution?
    Thanks,
    Priyanka.

    Hi Leckraj,
    I assume that
    the select list is not displayed at all.means that your page item is not rendered as a select list input control, but it's rendered as text only, right? That's the nature of the read only condition, it will render almost all controls as text only.
    About the dynamic action solution. That can be simplified and doesn't require a hidden item or JavaScript.
    1) Create a dynamic action which fires for the "Page Load" event
    2) As (Server Side) Condition Type set "exists (SQL quer returns...)" and specify your SQL statement
    3) Use a "Disable" action to disable your select list page item
    The above dynamic action will only be included and executed on the page, if the SQL statement returns a value.
    Note: Please keep in mind that dynamic actions are browser based operations, for a skilled user it's no problem to enable the select list and modify the value. To secure it you should add a server side validation to verify if the user is really allowed to modify the value. That's the difference to the "Read Only Condition", because in that case the APEX engine guarantee that the value can't be modified.

  • Can i get a number of rows in the select list??

    Hello~
    I am studying the "oracle call interface". but i don't know much about oci.
    Anyway i want to know that how can i get a number of rows.
    for example, there is a source code of the number of colums in the select list.
    The following is a list of DB(example)
    /*DB table*/
    ID NAME CODE ID
    1 A 1 A
    2 B 2 B
    /*source*/
    err = OCIAttrGet ((dvoid *) stmhp, (ub4)OCI_HTYPE_STMT, (dvoid*)
    &parmcnt, (ub4 *) 0, (ub4)OCI_ATTR_PARAM_COUNT, errhp);
    /*result*/
    The Column is 4. (ID, NAME, CODE, ID)
    So, i think that the row is 3 (ID, 1, 2) in the DB table.
    Simply, Can i get a number of rows in the select list??
    for example,
    err = OCIAttrGet ((dvoid *) stmhp, (ub4)OCI_HTYPE_STMT, (dvoid*)
    &parmcnt, (ub4 *) 0, (ub4)OCI_ATTR_RAW_COUNT, errhp);
    I'm trying to get the number of row count. but i can't find.
    Please, could you let me know that how can i get the number of row count.
    Thank you.

    Thank you for your reply.
    we are tested the source code by reply.
    The following is the test source code.
    /*source code*/
    strcpy (szStatement, "SELECT * from DB_TABLE");
    OCIStmtPrepare(gpOCIReadStmHandle, gpOCIErrHandle, szStatement,
         strlen(szStatement), OCI_NTV_SYNTAX, OCI_DEFAULT);
    OCIStmtExecute(gpOCISvcHandle, gpOCIReadStmHandle, gpOCIErrHandle,
         0, 0, 0, 0, OCI_DEFAULT);
    /* get a number of rows count , Reply : prajithparan*/
    OCIAttrGet((dvoid *)gpOCIReadStmHandle, OCI_HTYPE_STMT, (dvoid *)&nRowCount, NULL, OCI_ATTR_ROW_COUNT, gpOCIErrHandle))
    But There is a problem of the result value.
    The result value is 0. It's mean that the row count is 0. and then we are using the all of fuction is succeed.(return value)
    I don't know what is problem. Please let me know about the problem and solution.
    Thank you.

  • ORA-01785: ORDER BY item must be the number of a SELECT-list expression

    I have a dynamic SQL on a page. The SQL is dynamic because there are 3 LOV fields from which the user may make selections, and those field values are used in the WHERE clause. Also, the 2nd LOV field is populated with AJAX based on the 1st LOV's selection. And, the SQL joins to another table. The report has 7 sortable columns. The main table the SQL runs over has about 1,000 rows in it.
    The 2nd table has about 500 rows. (Sorry, I'm not sure what information you might need to help me, so I listed several details.)
    The application, and page, have been working flawlessly for several weeks. Then, yesterday the page was being used and the user received the "ORA-01785: ORDER BY item must be the number of a SELECT-list expression" error. The error just appeared out of the blue, so to speak. After weeks of of usage this is the first time this error has appeared. The application had not been changed, but they had been entering data into the main table and the table joined to in the SQL. The application is in production, so I can't put the application into DEBUG, etc. to see what SQL is being built.
    Anyway, I was trying to debug the page today and was doing selections and seeing what would display, then as suddenly as the page quit working it started working correctly. No code changes made, no server changes made (to my knowledge), and no data changes made.
    I'm new to both Oracle and Apex, and am not a SQL, Oracle or Apex expert. So, I am very perplexed and don't have any idea of what could be happening.
    I don't know if it's an issue with the SQL, AJAX not loading the select fields properly, a corrupted table, a server load issue, or something else all together.
    Any suggestions?
    Also, I'm not familiar with Oracle error messages. Can they be red herrings sometimes? Because, I don't programmaticly code the ORDER BY of the SQL. Apex appends that part. So, how could that aspect quit working. And, then suddenly start working.
    Sorry, but I'm extremely confused. :-) Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Tony

    Hi Dan,
    Thanks for the feedback. I'm not going to be dogmatic about possible cause, but it has myself and another Oracle developer (who writes SQL and PL/SQL in his sleep) stumped. He doesn't think it's the SQL. Your suggestion was one of the first things we thought of considering the error message we got, but from Scott's reply that it could be a red herring, and after additional testing we've ruled the SQL out for now.
    I understand what you're saying, but the SQL selects all the columns (about 40 columns are selected) that are sortable columns on the report. I've sorted by all the columns by clicking on them and that aspect works without error.
    The SQL is created dynamically and is quite large. I've included below just for information purposes.
    Thanks, Tony

    LOVSG contains a distinct collect of the SubGroups inside the selected PG.list
    QUERY LOV = select distinct sg from X where pg = :P1_LOVPG
    LOVMA contains a distinct collect of the Manufacturers inside the selected SG.lst
    QUERY LOV = select distinct ma from X where sg = :P_LOVSG
    Based on the the selected items the user would see the following:
    Table X
    PG SG MA ART
    A-----X----M---1
    A-----X----N---2
    A-----Y----M---3
    A-----X----M---4
    B-----X----M---5
    B-----Y----N---6
    B-----Z----O---7
    Seletion 1 PG = A -> selects PG A in select list result, User sees:
    Report A
    PG SG MA ART
    A-----X----M---1
    A-----X----N---2
    A-----Y----M---3
    A-----X----M---4
    Query would be: select * from X where PG = :P1_LOVPG
    Selection 2, user still sees the above, can only select from the SG select list NULL, X, Y. User needs to choose between X or Y value. He picks X, he sees:
    Report B
    PG SG MA ART
    A-----X----M---1
    A-----X----N---2
    A-----X----M---4
    Query would be: select * from X where PG = :P1_LOVPG and SG = :P_LOVSG
    Selection 3, user still sees selection 2 on his screen, can only select from the MA list bewteen NULL, M or N, user needs to choose between M or N. He picks M, he sees:
    Report C
    PG SG MA ART
    A-----X----M---1
    A-----X----M---4
    Query would be: select * from X where PG = :P1_LOVPG and SG = :P_LOVSG
    As you can see the query changes as the user goes deeper into the structure. It is a simple if then else system where the quey changes. How do I set this up in htmldb?
    (I've read something about Oracle's SQL and it's decode function, but can they be used with changing select statements?)

    are you sure your data meets the JOIN conditions?
    You can make a quick check.. only example...
    select single * from KONP into ls_konp
    where knumh = P_knumh.
    if sy-subrc eq 0.
    select * from from A905 into table lt_a905 where
         kappl in so_kappl
         and kschl in so_kschl
         and VKORG in so_vkorg
         and vtweg in so_vtweg
         and kondm in so_kondm
         and wkreg in so_wkreg
         and knumh = ls_konp-knumh.
    if sy-subrc eq 0.
    select * from A919 into table lt_a919
    for all entries in lt_a905
    where kappl = lt_a905-kappl
    and kschl = lt_905-kschl
    and knumh = lt_905-knumh.
    endif.
    endif.

  • Creating a dynamic Selection List based on a View Object

    Hello,
    I'm new to JDeveloper and I would like to create a JSP Page with dynamic Selection List based on a runtime query or based on a view object (BC4J). The selection made by an user should serve another dynamic query with the necessary parameters that I built using createViewObjectFromQueryStmt(). By now I tried this using the InputSelectLOV from the Component Palette in JDeveloper. But without success. By the way: the selection list is not very large (5 values), so it's not necessary to have a form finding the desired value.
    Maybe someone had experience about creating this already. Please give me a tip or a little example.
    Thanks.

  • Can not user Raw value as NULL return in Select List

    Help me!
    I recently converted my application to take advantage of the sys_guid() function that oracle offers over the sequence/trigger option.
    However, I user a hierarchical set up and I need to be able to insert a RAW value of '00' if the user does not select something in a select list. When I try to do this, I get an "ORA-01465: invalid hex number" error.
    I've also tried to return 00 and HEXTORAW(0) but that didn't work either. Infact 00 return a can not insert null value. Please help as I believe the sys_guid function is the best choice if I can make it work.

    Hey Scott, my first name is Daniel.
    Here is in detail the reason for which I want to be able to work with RAW. As everyone knows, most of your tables your going to have a UID. In general this is going to be a NUMBER column into which you will insert values that populate from a trigger getting the nextval of a sequence and returning the result into the NUMBER column of the row being inserted.
    This, however, requires a trigger and a sequence. Not that that's really a bad thing, I just think it can be done better. All we are really after here is a UUID or GUID. The thing is if you used a sequence to generate this value, you don't have a good way of knowing that the number is truly unique. You'll learn this as soon as you try to merge with a table from another database or do something else of the like.
    What I prefer to do is to use Oracle's SYS_GUID function when I create a table. To use this function you create a RAW(16) DEFAULT SYS_GUID(). From that point you don't even need to reference the column on insert, unless you're inserting into * and in that case you just specify DEFAULT. The use of sys_guid means I don't need a trigger and I don't need a sequence, and the result will always be unique, regardless of the DB.
    In APEX, and elsewhere, the way you use a select list is with a display value and a return value. An example would be, emp_name as the display value and emp_id as the return value. In my case, the emp_id would be the RAW values returned by the SYS_GUID() function when the employee was created. But it's not working because of the RAW value.
    I know that APEX can enter the value in session state that is returned from a RAW column because I did a test earlier and it worked. I would have to see it in session state for debugging. *** The problem is in creating a new record. ***
    APEX really does not have to work with the RAW column because the default value has been specified. But for some reason, it does not like it anyway. I found this problem when working with parent/child relationships in my tables.
    Lets say there are three columns GUID, TITLE, and PARENT. When creating a new record, I allow the user to select its parent. If the new record IS a parent then they would leave it as the default '- Is Parent -' and the PARENT column would be left as NULL. But because the GUID is RAW to make the relationship work with the parent, the PARENT column would be RAW too and APEX gives me the errors I was telling you about before.
    Sorry for going on so long. I don't know if I even got my point across. ;) Please let me know if you need me to do something on my part to further demonstrate my point. I would be happy to set up a demo if requested.

  • Using ORDER BY for column that's not in SELECT statement of select list?

    Hi all.
    I have a select list on an APEX page at apex.oracle.com, and I would like to order this by the value of column UnitOrder.
    The SQL is as follows:
    SELECT DISTINCT foodunit.name AS display_value, foodunit.foodunitid AS return_value
    FROM foodunit, food
    WHERE foodunit.foodid = :P18_FOODID
    ORDER BY foodunit.unitorder ASC;Off course, this code won't work. And since it's a select list, I can't just add foodunit.unitorder to the SELECT statement. Also, I can't get rid of the DISTINCT, because then for some reason it tends to display an infinite amount of the same row...
    The point of ordering it by UnitOrder is that all units who begin with gram, ml, mg, kg,... etc, will be shown on top of the select list. All other food units will be shown on the second place and so on.
    The column UnitOrder holds either 1 or 2 as a value. 1 is the value for all rows that should be displayed at the top of the select list, 2 is the value for all the rest.
    So, what I want is that all rows in which the UnitOrder is 1, get displayed on top of the select list. Usually only 2 list items get shown in the select list at a time, depening on which food item a user has selected. The select list then refines to certain rows that match the foodid etc etc..
    If anyone has an idea, I'd be very happy to hear about it.

    Thanks! I didn't think about using a join. Code works now, and is as follows:
    SELECT foodunit.name AS display_value, foodunit.foodunitid AS return_value
    FROM foodunit
    INNER JOIN food
    ON food.foodid = foodunit.foodid
    WHERE foodunit.foodid = :P18_FOODID
    ORDER BY foodunit.unitorder ASC;

  • Problems with customizing select lists and popup LOVs

    Hi
    I have 2 problems about select lists and popup LOVs.
    The first one is about a select list in a tabular form.
    It should be created with APEX_ITEM.SELECT_LIST_FROM_LOV or similar and take its values from a named LOV.
    This worked fine but now it should also have the possibility to enter a free value.
    I tried to accomplish that by creating a APEX_ITEM.POPUP_FROM_LOV, but there is a problem with the function that is called by the arrow icon right to the input field (for eg. genList_f11_5()).
    If the row is added by addRow, then it works fine, but if the row is is not empty
    then the function call is like genList_f11_$_row() and the input field gets no value, when a LOV option is selected.
    The other problem is about a select list which should have the possibility to enter a custom value and
    also there should be the possibility to select several values. I tried to implement this by a text area containing the selected values and a multiple select list, with an event handler in each option. The user could click options and they would be copied to the text area. The problem is that I couldn't make the event handler work in IE.
    I would appreciate any ideas about either of these problems.

    Hi,
    If you download application you can see source.
    I have not write any instructions, sorry.
    If you are on Apex 4 you can just load jQuery UI autocomplete library and take ideas from my app.
    If you download my sample in zip there is uncompressed htmldbQuery library.
    You can see that and take only function htmldbAutocomplete.
    Then check jQuery UI document
    http://jqueryui.com/demos/autocomplete/#method-search
    There is method search that you can use open list just by click of input.
    I hope this helps at start.

  • Select list based on color

    Hi there
    I need to create a static select list in a tabular form with the following values: Red, Amber, Green.
    However, instead of the color names, the user wants to see the actual colors in the the select list (changing background color for each option), so it is easy to spot the problematic ones (Red). Is this possible to be done using Apex 3?
    Thanks
    Luis

    Luis et al.
    Thanks for posting code to this forum, it has been a great help. I must admit that I know nothing about javascript (close enough to nothing) but through the great posts here I have been able to get the first part working and my list values change color when the page loads. However, when I use the select list I don't know how to implement the code Luis posted to change the background color in the select lists. Any further direction would be a great help.
    I have the example page here:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=37008:18
    and this is the code I used so far in the HTML HEADER on the page:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function setAll()
    obj=document.forms[0];
    len=obj.elements.length;
    for (i=0;i<len;i++){
    if (obj.elements.name=="f04")
    setColor(obj.elements[i]); }
    function setColor(sel)
    var obj=sel;
    if (obj.value=='GREEN')
    obj.style.backgroundColor= "green";
    if (obj.value=='YELLOW')
    obj.style.backgroundColor= "yellow";
    if (obj.value=='RED')
    obj.style.backgroundColor= "red";
    if (obj.value=='WHITE')
    obj.style.backgroundColor= "white";
    </script>
    Thanks again,
    Dave

  • Select list display value in javascript function

    Hi All,
    I have a select list in a tabular form having a display value & return value.
    I am using $x(var_name).value or $v(var_name) for retreving return value of the select list in a javascript function.
    Can anyone let me know how can I get the display value of the select list in a javascript function? Im using Apex 3.2
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sandeep

    What if the select list is not an item. Select list I am talking about is in a tabular form.Regardless of how they're generated in APEX, in JavaScript they're all DOM nodes. There are many ways of accessing the node of the required element. Consider the Items for Order... tabular form on page 29 of the Sample Application:
    var productNameLOV = document.wwv_flow.f04[0] // select list containing name of product on first order line
    var productNameLOV = $x("f04_0001") // another way of accessing the same node, using the ID attribute generated by apex_itemWe can see this using the Safari console:
    => productNameLOV = document.wwv_flow.f04[0]
        <select name="f04" id="f04_0001" autocomplete="off">…</select>
    => productNameLOV = $x("f04_0001")
        <select name="f04" id="f04_0001" autocomplete="off">…</select>Once you've got the node&mdash;however you get it&mdash;you then use the methods shown above:
    => i = productNameLOV.selectedIndex
        3
    => productNameLOV.options.text
    "Business Shirt [$50]"
    So it appears you would use:var item = document.wwv_flow.f01[i];
    var selected = item.selectedIndex;
    var selectedOption = item.options[selected].text;
    This is meaningless:...
    var my_var = document.wwv_flow.f01[i].id; // f01 is tabular column of select list
    if ($x(my_var) == 'display_value') //$x(my_var) is having return value, but i need display_value there
    <tt>$x(my_var)</tt> returns a DOM node object, whilst <tt>'display_value'</tt> is a string: they are not comparable.

  • Select list pagination not working for big tables

    Hi,
    i am trying to view a table with large amount of data using tabular form. the pagination using select list is not working in this page. i have selected select list kind of pagination but it is showing "row range 1-15 16-30(with set pagination)' type of pagination. when i lowered the amount of data in the table the pagination type will automatically change to select list pagination. could you please tell me why this happens and any possible work around if any.
    Thanks,
    Jo

    Hi Jo,
    I don't know what you call a large amount of records, but the effect you describe might be intentional by apex.
    The select list pagination would generate a selection tag with (number of records in table/15) options in your page HTML.
    Although there isn't a hard limit to the number of options a select list can have there certainly is a limit to what your browser/pc can render.
    Think about it
    Let's say you table contains a million rows. this would result to a select list with 66666 options. Which your browser won't handle :)
    I very possible the apex team resolved this by simply reverting to row range pagination when the number of select options would grow to large.
