Select List in a Tabular Form

Hello all,
Using APEX 4.1 on Oracle 11.2 SE (Oracle Linux Server release 6).
I have a Page with a region based on a Tabular Form.
The Region Source query has various columns, including an ID. I have also added a DATE column and a "Button" column which appear on every row.
The extra DATE field is displayed as a Select List on a Named LOV.
The extra Button field is displayed as a standard report column, and has Column Link attributes which cause it to branch to another page when pressed.
What I want to happen is that when the user presses the button on one of the rows, APEX sets two application items before going to the new page:
1. the ID column for the row in which the button was pressed
2. the value currently highlighted in the Select List, for the row in which the button was pressed
Using a Column Link item value of #ID# I can successfully get hold of the ID column for the correct row.
But doing the same for the Select List column invariably returns the default value of the Select List (i.e. the initially-selected value). It doesn't pick up the change if the user has gone into the Select List and chosen a different value.
Can anybody advise the easiest way to acquire the selected value in a Select List in a Tabular Form?

Thanks for the reply!
To get this working I did the following:
1. Used APEX_ITEM.SELECT_LIST_FROM_LOV(... p_item_id=>'LOVI_'||TO_CHAR(id) ...) in the base query, to generate the LOV. (Note: the ID column is the primary key, so no need to use a ROWNUM column)
2. Added a Standard Report Column with the following settings:
Link Text = <img ... >
Link Attributes = Empty
Target = URL
URL = javascript:window.location.href = 'f?p=&APP_ID.:123:&SESSION.::::ID,SELECTED_STRING:#ID#,'+$v('LOVI_'+'#ID#');
So when the link is pressed, the JavaScript is invoked and it evaluates to the value currently present in the uniquely-named <select> item.

    I have a manual tabular form that have several columns One column (vendor) is a select list that should be based on a previous column (Vendor Type - Internal/External). So if the user selects Internal for Vendor Type, the Vendor column's select list should only contain those vendors with type of Internal. By the way, it also uses APEX collections.

  • Cascading select list in a tabular form -plz help me out

    hello,
    how can i implement cascading select list for filtering my tabular form report results.
    Like i want to have the cascading select list's above the tabualr form report such that when i select the value in one select list, this should populate the values in other select list box(like one select list is dependent on other select list) and try to click a button say refresh, my tabular form report should be refreshed and should filter the report based on the select list value.
    i want to have three select list items above my report - and these select list are dependent on one other - tats why i want to make them cascading select list.
    can anyone provide me with an example of the cascading select list.
    can anyone help me out with cascading select list.
    thanks.

    Aplication item is always hidden - Shared Components > Application Items. You can create only one item and that would also be enough. For transparency purposes I said to create two. However, one will do the job.

  • Select item on a Tabular form with a different dynamic LOV on each row

    I would like to use a tabular form where one of the columns is a dynamic LOV based Select, and where that dynamic LOV refers to one of the column values on each row.
    So if the tabular form represented a list of teams and the LOV-based Select column was the current team leader, I would want that select list to be populated only with the members of that team (different for each row). Since the list of team members is in some other table (all_players or something) I would want to populate the LOV with a query with a where clause that selected only those players records with a team-membership equal to the current tabular form's team id. So, on each row that select list's contents would be different.
    -- Justin

    I'm beating a dead horse here but I did get something to work with "less" code. My current needs do not require me to cascade drop downs, I only want 1. You can use the query like the in the first reply (but I don't have a table with joins) I created a simple two column table dept_emp with 4 records 10,null 20,null .... I want to fill the nulls with an employee but ONLY an employee that matches the dept. (Same concept of team leader and members).
    Here's the query:
    select apex_item.display_and_save(1,dept) dept,
    apex_item.select_list_from_query(2, name, 'select ename from emp where deptno='||dept) name
    from dept_emp
    I removed the code that was there already (ApplyMRU) and just put in this code:
    BEGIN
    FOR i IN 1..HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F01.COUNT LOOP
    UPDATE dept_emp
    SET
    name=HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F02(i)
    WHERE dept=to_number(HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F01(i));
    END LOOP;
    END;
    The G_F01 matches the column 1 and so forth. There's more documentation but little explanation at:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/appdev.102/b25309/api.htm#sthref2171
    The thing I could not get to work was a dynamic message
    #MRU_COUNT# row(s) updated, #MRI_COUNT# row(s) inserted.
    Not sure when the MRU_COUNT gets populated (probably in the routine I removed ;))
    You're probably way past me by now but I like to have as little code as possible when it comes to maintaining an app. That's why I liked oracle forms so much. This kind of stuff was pretty easy to do.
    Thanks again everybody!

  • Drop down list to refresh Tabular Form data

    Hi,
    I had to add a drop list with a few values in them. When user selects any one of them, the tabular form region should refresh and pick data only for the value selected in the list box.
    For this I
    1. I have created a Select item with list of values
    2. Now when user selects a value from the list, I am guessing I just need to bind the value to the forms select query. However, do I need to use both the page item submit and return item option with this value? or only the return value?
    Thanks,
    Sun

    It's my impression that people use Dynamic action in such a situation when they don't want to submit the page but just refresh the report region. If submitting the page is Ok, then doing it through submit seems more straightforward -to me anyway.

  • Need a little JavaScript help with disabling a select list in a tabular frm

    Hello Folks
    Here's the scenario.
    I have a tabular form which, subject to the setting of one Select List, I want to disable/enable another.
    I have got this far and it will disable a text item but not a select list..
    This is in the HTML header section for the page...
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function test(pThis)
    var currIndex = $('select[name="'+pThis.name+'"]').index(pThis);
    if (pThis.value=='2') {
    $('input[name="f02"]')[currIndex].style.backgroundColor = "LightGrey";
    $('input[name="f02"]')[currIndex].disabled=true;
    The report region is defined as...
    SELECT apex_item.text(1, ir.iot_rebate_type_id) iot_rebate_type_id
    ,apex_item.select_list_from_lov_xl(2,ir.rebate_currency,'LOV_CURRENCY_CODES') rebate_currency
    FROM iot_rebate ir
    WHERE ir.iot_agreement_id = :P303_IOT_AGREEMENT_ID
    The iot_rebate_type_id column has an Column Element Attribute set to...
    onchange="javascript:test(this);"
    As I say, if I define the rebate currency as a text item, the javascript works fine.
    Can anyone offer any suggestions?
    Many thanks

    Hi Vikram.
    That's great.
    I have the relevant items being set to diabled & grey (and also the reverse of this if the driving select list is changed back).
    As this is being used in a Tabular form, if I am calling pre-existing records which should be displayed with two of the select lists disabled, can you point me in the right direction to show the relevent select lists as disabled when the records are returned from the database?If you are using apex_item API set the disabled property into p_attributes parameter conditionally using a case statement in you sql statement
    Another option is you can use some javascript to loop through the tabular form array that runs on the onload of the page.
    Finally, if some columns are disabled, this invaludates the MRU process on the page. Is there a way to submit the page with some fields in the disabled state?Do that as per Roel's suggestion for this issue.
    Any input/pointers much appreciated.

  • Row selector select all default in Tabular Form

    Hi,
    I am a newbie to APEX using 4.0. I have a tabular form with the default "row selector". Our requirement is to have the checkbox in the row selector column automatically checked when the tabular form is rendered, so that they can uncheck the lines that they do not want to select. The tabular form will have many records displayed on multiple pages. How can I select all in the row selector when the page is rendered?
    Thanks a lot for you help.

    Ed,
    Create an on load dynamic action that executes the following javascript code:
    var elm = $x('check-all-rows');
    elm.checked = true;
    checkAll(elm);Cheers,

  • How can I get two column selection list in my html form

    I required to have two column selection list in my jsp page to show name and description of a product. How can i achieve this functionality or is there any other alternative to do so.

    If i understand correctly: you can't actually create two columns in a list because it can only hold one value. The only way to achieve what you want is by concatenating the two values you want to display and put this as the value of the listbox.

  • Cascading select list (query based) in a tabular form

    Hi,
    In my application i have two select list in a tabular form one for selecting manager_id and other for selecting employees for the selected manager_id how can i do it in apex 4.0
    thanks in advance

    Ok i will assume that you have 2 select list items called (P1_MANAGER AND P1_EMPLOYEE)
    In employee select list u need to find Cascading LOV Parent Item(s) and set it to P1_MANAGER. Ofc your sql query must be smth like this:
    SELECT employee_name d, employee_id r FROM employee_table WHERE employee_manager = :P1_MANAGER

  • Refer to Tabular Form field in Condition of Dynamic Action

    I tried to filter on this topic but didn't come up with anything.
    Is there a way to refer to a field in a tabular form as a condition of a dynamic action?
    For example, I want to pop up a message (javascript 'alert') when the value of one field in a tabular form is changed, but only if another field for that same row meets a certain condition.  So let's say the field in the condition is XYZ.  So in the condition section, i would have PL/SQL Expression - XYZ IS NULL.  Something like that.  How would I refer to that XYZ field from my tabular form in the condition section of a dynamic action?
    Thanks in advance.
    John

    Thanks for your help on this.  I think going with the action being an 'execute javascript code' is a good approach.  So here is my situation - I have a tabular form.  I have 2 fields (among others) - SPECIES and WEIGHT.  The SPECIES is a select list in the tabular form.  The WEIGHT is a text box in the tabular form.
    To make this simple, let's say this is for only one species - SNSG.  If the person changes the select list to SNSG and the associated WEIGHT field is NULL, I need to pop up a message that says 'Fill in weight field if selecting SNSG'.
    So here is what I have:
    Event: Change
    Selection Type: jQuery Selector
    jQuery Selector: :.speciesClass
    Condition: In List
    Value: SNSG
    True Action: Execute JavaScript Code
    ** Here is where I am stuck: In the JavaScript code I need to this:
    If WEIGHT is null THEN:
    confirm('Warning: Enter weight if entering SNSG species.');
    I am not sure how to write that "If WEIGHT is null THEN" part in javaScript and be able to refer to the WEIGHT field associated with the SPECIES value I just changed in the tabular form.
    I hope that makes sense!
    I appreciate your help!!
    Thanks,
    John

  • Set value in tabular form field with dynamic action

    Hi Guys,
    I have a dummy field in a tabular form which I am trying to use to populate another field in the tabular form when it is changed.
    In the tabular form I have an ITEM_ID field. Each item_id has an ITEM_NAME which is the dummy field as it is not a field in the database table.
    When the user enters an item name, I would like something like a dynamic action to fire, populating the ITEM_ID.
    e.g User enters part no ABC into the dummy field. When they tab out, I want the value to the item_id field on the tabular form row to be populated based on a SQL query in a similar fashion to how it can be done with dynamic actions on text items on a form.
    I am using APEX v4.0.0
    Thanks in advance
    Chris

    Hello Chris,
    Why can't you use Select List Item on tabular form, which will display all item_names and return item_ids?
    If the list is huge and you need users to type & search, then you can use Pop-up LOV item.
    Regards,
    Hari

  • Problems with customizing select lists and popup LOVs

    Hi
    I have 2 problems about select lists and popup LOVs.
    The first one is about a select list in a tabular form.
    It should be created with APEX_ITEM.SELECT_LIST_FROM_LOV or similar and take its values from a named LOV.
    This worked fine but now it should also have the possibility to enter a free value.
    I tried to accomplish that by creating a APEX_ITEM.POPUP_FROM_LOV, but there is a problem with the function that is called by the arrow icon right to the input field (for eg. genList_f11_5()).
    If the row is added by addRow, then it works fine, but if the row is is not empty
    then the function call is like genList_f11_$_row() and the input field gets no value, when a LOV option is selected.
    The other problem is about a select list which should have the possibility to enter a custom value and
    also there should be the possibility to select several values. I tried to implement this by a text area containing the selected values and a multiple select list, with an event handler in each option. The user could click options and they would be copied to the text area. The problem is that I couldn't make the event handler work in IE.
    I would appreciate any ideas about either of these problems.

    Hi,
    If you download application you can see source.
    I have not write any instructions, sorry.
    If you are on Apex 4 you can just load jQuery UI autocomplete library and take ideas from my app.
    If you download my sample in zip there is uncompressed htmldbQuery library.
    You can see that and take only function htmldbAutocomplete.
    Then check jQuery UI document
    http://jqueryui.com/demos/autocomplete/#method-search
    There is method search that you can use open list just by click of input.
    I hope this helps at start.

    I need to implement the AJAX with select list in a tabular form but I am not able do it . It is possible to do it in a normal form , but while implementing the same thing in a tabular form i am getting error (here it uses 2 dimensional arrays to identify a cell).
    The problem is I am not able to get the value from the select list .
    Can anyone help me..
    My application is "http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=23480:6" . The thing I need is when I select the 'Product name' corresponding 'List price need to be displayed.
    Thanks

    Hi Carl,
    Sorry for that..
    I requirement is in my application (http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=23480:6) , When I select the 'Product Name' from the select list the value should be populated automatically in the 'List Price' according to the product name.
    Hope the reqirement is clear ,
    My javascript is as follows
    ==============================================
    <script language="JavaScript1.1" type="text/javascript">
    var g_table;
    function va_GetCellPos(p_cell,p_what)
    for (var j=0;j<g_table.rows.length;j++) {
    var column=g_table.rows[j]
    for (var k=0;k<column.cells.length;k++)
    if (column.cells[k]==p_cell) return p_what=="row"?j:k
    function f_getfetch (p_input)
    var td=html_CascadeUpTill(p_input,'TD');
    if (!g_table) g_table=html_CascadeUpTill(p_input,'TABLE');
    var rownum=va_GetCellPos(td,"row");
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,html_GetElement('pFlowId').value,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=getfetch',0);
    get.add('PRODUCT_NAME',g_table.rows[rownum].cells[va_GetCellPos(html_GetElement('PRODUCT_NAME'),"column")].getElementsByTagName('input')[0].value);
    gReturn = get.get();
    if(gReturn)
    {   g_table.rows[rownum].cells[va_GetCellPos(html_GetElement('LIST_PRICE'),"column")].innerHTML = gReturn }
    else
    {  g_table.rows[rownum].cells[va_GetCellPos(html_GetElement('LIST_PRICE'),"column")].innerHTML = 'null' }
    get = null;
    </script>
    ===============================================
    Here I am not able to get the value from the select list , its taking null (g_table.rows[rownum].cells[va_GetCellPos(html_GetElement('PRODUCT_NAME'),"column")].getElementsByTagName('input')[0].value) )
    If u need to have a look into the application ,I can give you my login details.
    with regards,
    Dilip.

  • Select list based on color

    Hi there
    I need to create a static select list in a tabular form with the following values: Red, Amber, Green.
    However, instead of the color names, the user wants to see the actual colors in the the select list (changing background color for each option), so it is easy to spot the problematic ones (Red). Is this possible to be done using Apex 3?
    Thanks
    Luis

    Luis et al.
    Thanks for posting code to this forum, it has been a great help. I must admit that I know nothing about javascript (close enough to nothing) but through the great posts here I have been able to get the first part working and my list values change color when the page loads. However, when I use the select list I don't know how to implement the code Luis posted to change the background color in the select lists. Any further direction would be a great help.
    I have the example page here:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=37008:18
    and this is the code I used so far in the HTML HEADER on the page:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function setAll()
    obj=document.forms[0];
    len=obj.elements.length;
    for (i=0;i<len;i++){
    if (obj.elements.name=="f04")
    setColor(obj.elements[i]); }
    function setColor(sel)
    var obj=sel;
    if (obj.value=='GREEN')
    obj.style.backgroundColor= "green";
    if (obj.value=='YELLOW')
    obj.style.backgroundColor= "yellow";
    if (obj.value=='RED')
    obj.style.backgroundColor= "red";
    if (obj.value=='WHITE')
    obj.style.backgroundColor= "white";
    </script>
    Thanks again,
    Dave
