Selecting the middle part of a song to add to my movie.

I expect that this question has been asked before but my quick search has not found answers.
When I want to add music to the movie and I select a track from my audio link the whole tune is imported, which is OK if I want a the entire tune. I know that I can clip and discard the later part of the tune to suit the length required but how do I chop off some of the beginning if I want to have only a part of the song somewher in the middle of the recording?

You'd have to do it prior to bringing the song file into your Project.  You could use Quick Time Pro, Garageband or the free open souce, Audacity.
But by the time you pre-edit your song, you might as well have just done it in iMovie.
If you find yourself using the same bits and pieces of songs in many projects it might be worth the time making the cut-down versions.
Or, if you want to invest the money, Final Cut Pro X allows you to import audio files as events so that you just selcet what you want to add to a project.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library and then download again from your purchased history. If the problem persists, or that facility is not available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history.

  • How can you shrink the size of an upright picture to make it smaller without losing any of the detail in it??? At the moment, if I view them on my laptop, landscape photos fill the screen, but portrait photos only show the middle part.

How can you shrink the size of an upright picture to make it smaller without losing any of the detail in it (in Slideshow)??? At the moment, if I view them on my Mac Laptop, landscape photos fill the screen, but portrait photos only show the middle part, so I loose the top and bottom of the picture.  Have tried cropping, but that means I lose top and bottom part of the picture, so that is not the answer!!

Homestly haven't a clue what's going on there.
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Is anyone else having any problems with their music in your library, in the middle of all my songs I'm getting a skipping noise. Never had this problem before. Can someone help?

I have Windows Vista and last week I upgraded my iTunes, i think it's up to 11. something or other and now all my music in my iTunes library has this scratch-type noise in the middle of the song. I've never had this issue before, all my songs played wonderfully and now every song has this scratching-type noise in the middle of it. Can someone help me?

OK, after looking into the settings on "my account" on the Verizon website, it appears that "caller ID" was removed from my "features" on my line. The only reason I actually noticed this is because I have the same phone as someone else on our account, so I looked at their features and noticed mine was missing. Any idea how to get it back on there? I can't seem to figure it out.

  • The nano advances to the next song in the middle of a current song.

My nano (refurbished) will (in the middle of a song) suddenly advance to the next song.  What can be done to get the nano to play a song completely before advancing to the next song?

Does it do this for every song, or just some? I had this problem with DRM-protected iTunes purchases (file name ends in .m4p). If this is your problem, I might be able to help.

  • I'm trying to cut out the introductory part of a song that I imported from ITunes and not start the song from the beginning

Has anyone ever imported a song from Itunes and deleted the first part of the song so that it starts at a certain location?

Sure. Drag the song into your Project from the Music Browser and drop it on the clip where you want it to start. It should appear as a ribbon underneath your video clips. You can then drag the left edge if the clip to the right, until it starts where you want it to.
    This video Tutorial may help.

Another way. Once you drag in the music clip, click the gear icon on the clip to open the clip trimmer. You can change where the clip starts there.
See iMovie Help here for all the details.

  • ITunes stopped working while in the middle of playing a song

Have patience with me, I'm new here. :o) I will try to do my best to explain the problem.
I was listening to a playlist on my computer when it stopped playing in the middle of a song. Now I can't play any music in iTunes. I wasn't using the computer for anything at the time, except to listen to music. I wasn't even sitting at the computer at the time, but the internet was on.
I thought maybe the speakers came unplugged or something but that is not the case. The plug is still plugged in and I can still hear sounds and music in my games.
I shut down iTunes and reopened it, but this didn't help. I shut down the computer and rebooted it, but this didn't help either. I have the latest version of iTunes, and I've never had a problem before.
Can somebody please help me fix this, or maybe throw some ideas at me about what could be causing this?
    Thank for your time,
    Jennifer

if you shake your ipod and it goes to a new song you are using the shake to shuffle mode, i would turn it off if it is giving you problems. you go to settings, play back, and click on shake so it says off. hope this helps.

  • Itunes screen display seems locked. Scrolling only moves the bottom part of list, top of list doesn't move

Itunes music list displays but won't scroll the whole page. When scrolling throught the list, the bottom of  part of the on screen list moves, but the top portion of the list says locked on the top part of the screen. (Example; Like in an excell program where you have locked cells that dont' move as you scroll through the rest of the cells)
    Any ideas?

I get erratic loss of input capability into my Touch. On some days in the browser ,the W key doesn't work but the adjacent Q or E keys work just fine when I slide my finger back and forth. A few hours later, it works just fine. Last night I was entering a new location in the weather, the keyboard worked fine but after a search, it would not let me click on the new location to set it up. I could get a blue background but it would not click to complete the entry. Again, I tried it 20 min later and it worked just fine. Same thing on iTunes, there are occasions when the screen is unresponsive to my input and other times when it works just fine. I have one of those plastic covers sold at the Apple store to protect the screen and maybe that's the problem. However, recent rollerblade fall proved the worth of the protector as the cover was deeply scored but the screen was fine (was erratic before fall, not caused by fall). Touch is not jailbroken. Don't want to give up the protection film but I'm not sure whether there is a problem with my iTouch or just with my touch.

  • Selecting  only a part of a song

I have a recording, on CD, of a vocal recital in which 2 of my kids participated. Unfortunately, it was recorded as one long track instead of individual songs. Is there a way to extract just the parts that I would like to have in my iTunes library? Or maybe this is a Garage Band question.

If you click Get Info on your track you can go to Options and choose when the track should start and stop playing (ie. the part with your children singing). You can then choose Advanced from the iTunes menu and convert your selection to mp3/AAC. By doing this you will create another track with just the part you want to hear. You can repeat the process if there are other songs you want, you just need to know the start and end times in your original, hour-long track. Hope this helps in some way.

  • Extract , in some way... the drums part of a song

Well, I know it's strange, but I need to extract 20 seconds of a song.
Basically I need just the drums line, getting rid of all the other instruments, (there is no bass) and I was wondering what is the best way to do that.
I know If I had the separated tracks it would be easy. I would just need the drums track and that would be done! But Let's assume that everything is blended together.
Maybe it is not possible to extract the actual drums line, but, would it be possible to extract, the beat line, like, transforming the beats in a series of values that can be subsequently taken and used to create a new drums track?
Do you see what I mean?
I normally work on GarageBand and I just started with Ableton Live 7 Lite.
    Any Plug - in?
    Thanks for your kind support
    Alex

    Well... You are right.
I worked it out band passing the high frequencies, compressor, limiter, expander and I have something good. Got rid of unwanted middle instruments... But there 'll be time where we'll be able to do it
I foresee... Something like: Advanced Track Edit> Subdivide Instruments> Instruments Selector> Drums.

  • How do I get the missing parts of a song that didn't download fully?

The network connection timed out while I was downloading a song, and now the last minute of the song is missing. Is there any way to get that minute back? I can't re-download the song to my knowledge. I'm not getting much help from Tech Support. Anyone know how to fix this?

I would suggest that you contact iTunes Customer Support.

  • I was in the middle of downloading a song when my iTunes crashed and when I opened it back up, the song wasn't downloading anymore. However, when I went to re-download the song, since it has already been purchased, it won't let me. Help!

Is there any way I can get that song now?

What worked for me was -
    go to itunes
    tap 'more'
    tap downloads
what happened with me was that the song itself had been partially downloaded, so it should say something like 'download failed. Tap to retry'
make sure your wifi connection is strong
    tap it
    hopefully this works
