Installing SAP ERP6 EHp4on Solaris 10 ,oracle 10g
Hello gurus
i am planning to install SAP ERP6 EHP4on SOLARIS 10 Sparc,Oracle 10g
So i have 3 questions that i need a bit clarified although i went thro the inst guide
1.Will the install or sapinst ask me to create the oracle directories and sapdata files?Like the previous versions oracle 9.X.
2.If its not then what is the easiest way to point the installation to install in specfic directories e.g /oracle/SID/log for the log file origs,mirrors,oraachs etc and for sapdatas /oracle/data etc OR it will put them in the SAP standard dir /oracle etc
3.How do i start the patch install soon after the database install not using mopath but where u specify the path to /oracle /stage /10 what is the completecommand line as orasid?(when the installation stop and ask for the DB installation?
any ideas will be greatly appreciatedHi,
Below are my answers,
--> Always prefereable to create the directories in advance with individual file systems. You have a specific SAP Note for this which will tell you how much sizes you need to keep for SAPDATA and log folders . So always create separate Mount points for individual directories which is a good practice for Unix based systems.
So in this case, Please create the file systems as follows /oracle/SID/102_64 --> For Oracle Home
/oracle/SID/sapdata 1-4 --> For SAPDATA folders
/oracle/SID/origlogA, /oracle/SID/origlogB,/oracle/SID/mirrlogA,/oracle/SID/mirrlogB
Then You can create a separate one for oracle/stage/102_64 or as per your wish.
Once your DB Instance Installation is done, You can define the full path of OPatch/MOPatch in the PATH Env Variable of ORASID so that no need to give it again. you can go to the folder/file where you saved your patch files and apply accordingly.
Hope I contributed my 2 cents.
Thanks,

hey friends,
I installed Oracle 10g Database server on Windows XP,when i tried to take the backup through "Export to Files".I got this error.
I have added Administrator in "Login as Batch JOb" and has given administrator along with the password in host credentials.
I explain the procedure.I Login as Sys as SysOper as Oracle does not allow to take backup as sysdba.
I created the job and also given the right path for the backup but some how it fails then i check the log and i find the following output.

Solaris 10, Oracle 10g and ORA-27102 out of memory
After much STFW'ing, RTFM'ing and experimenting I finally got Oracle 10g to start a database on a SunBlade 100 with 512MB of memory and Solaris 10. As most of the replies on the web about error 27102 "out of memory" address solutions in Solaris 8 and 9, I thought I should post a clear description of the solution here.
Unlike earlier releases of Solaris, most of the system parameters needed to run Oracle are already set properly, so the only one you need is the maximum shared memory parameter. In earlier versions this was called SHMMAX and was set by editing the /etc/system file and rebooting. With Solaris 10 you set this by modifying a "Resource Control Value". You can do this temporarily by using prctl, but that is lost at reboot so you will need to add the command to the oracle user's .profile. The other option is to create a default project for the oracle user:
projadd -U oracle -K "project.max-shm-memory=(priv,2048MB,deny)" user.oraclewhat this does:
- makes a project named "user.oracle" with the user oracle as it's only member.
- because the name was of the form "user.username" it becomes the oracle user's default project.
- the value of the maximum shared memory is set to 2gb, you might want to use a larger value here if you have more memory and swap.
- no reboot is needed, the user will get the new value at their next login.thanks buddy. I was in this same tricky situation. and ur post solved my prblem.
Is this a bug with solaris 10.
Later i discovered.. on Oracle documentation that.. there r sum parameters that needed to be taken care while pre-installation of Oracle binaries.
Here is the excerpts.
The Oracle installer recognizes kernel parameters set using this method, but it is now deprecated in favour of resource control projects, explained below.
As the root user, issue the following command.
projadd oracle
Append the following line to the "/etc/user_attr" file.
oracle::::project=oracle
If you've performed a default installation, it is likely that the only kernel parameter you need to alter is "max-shm-memory". To check the current value issue the following command.
# prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project oracle
project: 100: oracle
NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
project.max-shm-memory
privileged 254MB - deny
system 16.0EB max deny
To reset this value, make sure at least one session is logged in as the oracle user, then from the root user issue the following commands.
# prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -v 4gb -r -i project oracle
# projmod -s -K "project.max-shm-memory=(priv,4gb,deny)" oracle
The first dynamically resets the value, while the second makes changes to the "/etc/project" file so the value is persistent between reboots.
# cat /etc/project
system:0::::
user.root:1::::
noproject:2::::
default:3::::
group.staff:10::::
oracle:100::::project.max-shm-memory=(priv,4294967296,deny)
The Oracle installer seems incapable of recognising kernel parameter set using resource control projects, but if you ignore the warnings the installation completes successfully.Even this method works.

At present we are maintaining a J2EE application running on a UNIX Platform with the following environment configuration:
o Web Server (Apache 2.0.52)
o Application Server (WebLogic Server 9.0)
o Database Server (Oracle 9i RAC)
The current requirement is to upgrade Oracle 9i on UNIX to Oracle 10g (Oracle 10.2.0.1) on Linux. Will there be any impact on
-> Oracle developer applications (Forms/Reports) because of oracle upgrade?
-> .net applications accessing oracle because of oracle upgrade?
-> Java applications accessing oracle because of oracle upgrade?
-> compatibility issues resulting from the differences in the Oracle database versions
Any pointers on this will be really helpful.Download patch set from metalink and extract patch into some directory.
Then from that directory run "Opatch install". ( You need to shutdown all database and other service while upgrading code tree)

Solaris 10,oracle 10g question- can't connect with non-dba user
Hi
I've installed the Oracle10g suite, enterprise edition ( 10.2.0.1). I've created a database called qa10g, which I can connect to as user 'oracle' once I export the ORACLE_SID and the ORACLE_HOME
export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/10g2
export ORACLE_SID=qa10g
then I type in the following at it puts me into sqlplus:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus system/system
so that works fine..now whan I try to log in as another user that isn't a member of the dba group, and I export the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID variables, I can't get in to the database using $ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus system/system, I get the following errors:
ERROR:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory
Enter user-name:
BUT, when I put the connector string at the end, I can get in:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus system/system@qa10g
Connected to:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production

so obviously, it is an enviromnet variable that isn't getting set properly, perhaps even ORACLE_SID=qa10g isn't working properly for the non-dba user ( in this case, the user is called ctronsys)
for the work I need to do on this databse, I need to have the user I select to be able to log into the database with sqlplus commands like the ones listed above, without the connector string added at the end..the SID gets exported first..
any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm a newbie to Oracle!
thanks!

Solaris 10 Oracle 10g and semaphores
Hi, Can you help me,
We have Oracle installed on a solari 10 box, and I think we have a problem with the semaphores, currently the project is set as below, out of the box
user.oracle:100::oracle::process.max-sem-nsems=(priv,256,deny);project.max-sem-ids=(priv,100,deny);project.max-shm-ids=(priv,100,deny);projec
t.max-shm-memory=(priv,4294967296,deny)
The machine has 16gb Ram
Our SGA is 3gb.
The .ora file the processes is set at 1400.
Is the project set wrong above and what do I need to set it at, any idea how to work it out.
The reason I am asking the question as the system get's busy we get errors on the os station cannot assign semaphores.
I lloked up metalink, just can't get my head round it, somewhere it said you have to set semmsid, but according to an oracle metalink that was obsolete in solaris 10?

Thanks for the messages, I'm looking for a guide on metalink that states how to come up with the measures for the kernal, if I know the sga size, the number of processes etc..Is there a formula.?

Solaris 10, Oracle 10g, and Shared Memory
Hello everyone,
We've been working on migrating to Solaris 10 on all of our database servers (I'm a UNIX admin, not a DBA, so please be gentle) and we've encountered an odd issue.
Server A:
Sun V890
(8) 1.5Ghz CPUs
32GB of RAM
Server A was installed with Solaris 10 and the Oracle data and application files were moved from the old server (the storage hardware was moved between servers). Everything is running perfectly, and we're using the resource manager to control the memory settings (not /etc/system)
The DBAs then increase the SGA of one of the DBs on the system from 1.5GB to 5GB and it fails to start (ORA-27102). According to the information I have, the maximum shared memory on this system should be 1/4 of RAM (8 GB, actually works out to 7.84 GB according to prctl). I verified the other shared memory/semaphore settings are where they should be, but the DB would not start with a 5 GB SGA. I then decided to just throw a larger max shared memory segment at it, so I used the projmod to increase project.max-shm-memory to 16GB for the project Oracle runs under. The DB now starts just fine. I cut it back down to 10GB for project.max-shm-memory and the DB starts ok. I ran out of downtime window, so I couldn't continue refining the settings.
Running 'ipcs -b' and totalling up the individual segments showed we were using around 5GB on the test DB (assuming my addition is correct).
So, the question:
Is there a way to correlate the SGA of the DB(s) into what I need the project.max-shm-memory to? I would think 7.84GB would be enough to handle a DB with 5GB SGA, but it doesn't appear to be. We have some 'important' servers getting upgraded soon and I'd like to be able to refine these numbers / settings before I get to them.
Thanks for your time,
StevenTo me, setting a massive shared memory segment just seems to be inefficient. I understand that Oracle is only going to take up as much memory (in general) as the SGA. And I've been searching for any record of really large shared memory segments causing issues but haven't found much (I'm going to contact Sun to get their comments).
The issue I am having is that it doesn't make sense that the DB with a 5GB SGA is unable to startup when there is an 8GB max shared memory segment, but a 10GB (and above) seems to work. Does it really need double the size of the SGA when starting up, but 'ipcs' shows it's only using the SGA amount of shared memory? I have plans to cut it down to 4GB and test again, as that is Oracle's recommendation. I also plan to run the DB startup through truss to get a better handle on what it's trying to do. And, if it comes down to it, I'll just set a really big max shared memory segment, I just don't want it to come back and cause an issue down the road.
The current guidance on Metalink still seems to be suggesting a 4GB shared memory segment (I did not get a chance to test this yet with the DB we're having issues with).
I can't comment on how the DBA specifically increased the SGA as I don't know what method they use. -

PLZ HELP ME:::Degradation in performance of ORA-10G in solaris sparc
Hi ,
We recently installed solaris 10 (5.10) on sun sparc 64 bit machine and created oracle DB with 10.2.0.1 release .
Our java application calls the oracle procedure
and procedure returns the result set with sys_refcursor as out parameter.
After solaris 10 installation, our application performance has come down drastically.
The same application is running fine on solaris 9 ( 5.9 )
Old configuration
sun sparc 64 bit
solaris 9 (no patches applied )
oarcle 10.2.0.1 (no patches applied )
jboss 3.2.7
jdk 1.4
New configuration
sun sparc 64 bit
solaris 10 (no patches applied )
oarcle 10.2.0.1 (no patches applied )
jboss 3.2.7
jdk 1.4
would like to know about any known Solaris , Oracle DB patches to address this performance issue.
Any solution to bring back the same old performance with out downgrading , would be of great help to us.
thanks a lot in advance.user645751 wrote:
we dont have this problem before on the same machine.
But the machine is rebooted with new OS of solaris, and Oracle 10G is installed Freshly as previously.So you want to say that the only thing that changed is the Operating System, the remaining things haven't been touched? "Freshly" installed sounds like a new installation, but that's not what you want to say, is it?
But if we include in the new stored procedures, they r not executing at the same time as earlier procedures does.Unclear what the "new stored procedures" are you are referring to.
No change in the procedures and queries.
we have two instances of our application on the same database with stored procedures(queries included in the stored procedures), this is causing degradation.
As the second instance with no stored procedures, but the same queries will be posed is not showing any degradation.So you have two versions of your application - one using stored procedures that contain queries (and return the result set as REF CURSORs?) and the other one doesn't use these stored procedures?
You need to track down what is causing the performance degradation. Since you're already on 10g you might want to use the built-in AWR reports as a starting point to find out what might be the difference resp. what is causing the most load on the database (of course only if you have an AWR license purchased).

Randolf
