Self dialing storm

touch screen is nice - but my blackberry likes to dial my contacts by itself and one of these days someone is going to hear somthing that I do not want heard!!
It is no a phone to carry in your pants pocket that is for sure - I have bought the hard shell carrying holster for my belt and it still will call by itself - i have been trying to get into the habit of locking it and this still does not prevent it from somehow unlocking itself and phoning my contacts without my permission.
Is there something else that I can do to prevent this? Maybe a procedure that i can do but my phone can not by itself?
Anyone else had there phone do this?
Thanks

Hello glenn440,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community.
Try setting a password lock on your BlackBerry® Storm™ smartphone as shown in the following user guide:
Set a device password - http://bbry.lv/ImbPKT
We hope this helps.
Thank you.

  • Is my iPhone alinve (self dialing)?

    Alright, I am not crazy!
My wife received 2 calls in a row placed from ... my pocket!
I thought, ok, maybe i accidentally dialed when I put my phone in my pocket...
But right now, as my iPhone is laying by my side, not touching anything, I see him suddenly dialing a friend of mine!!!!!!
Am i waking up from a sweet dream to discover the truth?
The iPhone was too good to be true?
I want to go back to sleep...
Any one had the same problem or is my iPhone possessed?

oh sorry, i misunderstood your question !
well then my guess is the Contact app ? despite it's capabilities i do use this as a phone & little else ( no iCloud, no emails, no internet except if i REALLY need to - i find the screen way too small for everyday use..)
besides maybe i should've added that when it ''edits'' said contacts, they also appear edited in the Contact app ?...

  • CUPS 6.0.6 OCS 2007 R2 RCC continuous self dialing

I have a strange issue with our COS/CUPS integration.  RCC and Presence integration work fine. The problem is RCC enabled users on OCS receive missed calls from themselves every 30 minutes.  If you are at the desk you will see the phone light up and a call from 'User A' to 'User A'.  If you answer the call it hangs up immediatley.  If you don't answer the call It goes to VM and hangs up when Unity answers.  The same behavior occurs when 'User A' signs into Office Communicator.
The Real Time Trace Logs from RTMT and the OCS Trace logs don't show anything unusal but I can see the SIP Conversation taking place on sign in that sends the SIP INVITE incoming from CUPS.
Is there a 'Presence Timer' that is genereating this call?  We have almost the exact same setup in the lab but can not duplicate the behavior.
Any suggestions are appreciated I am stumped.

First of all, CUPS 6.0.x does not support OCS 2007 R2.  Which means:
    1) This combination was not tested by Cisco.  Thus unexpected behavior might be observed.
    2) If you run into this problem, Cisco (TAC) won't be able to troubleshoot the problem for you (because it's not supported).
You should use CUPS 7.0.x with OCS 2007 R2.
With that said, here are something under the hood:
For MOC RCC, CUPS has to know which phone device to control.  CUPS depends on the "device name" in the TEL URI to detemine which device to control.
Before the "phone selector" plug-in was introduced on CUPS 7.0.x, CUPS use a "call-back" method to detect the device.  Which is: CUPS will make test calls to the devices that match the DN in the TEL URI.  Whoever answered first would be the one choosen.  This might be the cause of the "ghost calls".

  • I pod touch has a mind of its own

I just bought mt ipod touch last december 2012. Its the last model before they came out with the colored vresions. It started to have a mind of its own at the begining of Jan 2013. It changes screens by it self dials up face time from my address book, plays random songs. Whats going on here can somebody help me?

Yes you can also back up to iTunes on the Mac.

  • No dial tone, slow broadband which turns it's self off

Finally got round to getting a hand set as never bother with a house phone but due to changes in circumstances need it. However I have no dial tone at all tried all the steps and 3 different handsets. Really wish I had stayed with BT as never had any problems with them. Need this fixing ASAP any ideas. Or am I without a phone line until my contract is up and I can go back to BT?

You will need to report this directly to Sky so then can run some tests on your line and if needs be they in turn will report it to BT Openreach to fix.
If you have a mobile that has free inclusive minutes with your network provider then calls to Sky via the 03 number will be free as the 03 number Sky uses now is a local rate number so would be free like 01 numbers are if you have free calls time.
If you have a mobile you could also use the Sky Service App and request a call back to it.

  • Help with Blackberry Storm 2 voice dialing

I just got 2 BBS2's 3 days ago, on one the voice dilaing works great on the other one it won't. When you activate voice dialing it comes up gives you the pompt when you say the number or name you want to dial it recognizes it and says calling "whatever it is you've said" but then it just brings up the dial pad it doesn't actually dial the number. Is there a setting I could possibly be overlooking that I need to be fixed or is this phone just not working properly?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Johnita

You may need to improve voice recognition by completing a short series of prompts that ask you to say specific numbers and words.
On the Home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon.
    Click Voice Dialing.
    Click Adapt Voice.
Complete the instructions on the screen.
    I hope this is helpful!

  • Newcastle internet status after floods/storm

Hi, i was wondering what the status of the broadband is in the newcastle area since the flooding and storms yesterday. I have been getting 96% packet loss on my connection ever since the storm, but there doesnt appear to be anything about it in the service status page or anything.
I doubt i'm the only one wondering what has happened and when we may see some normality return, thanks.

Can you also post the full results from BT Speedtest speedtester.bt.com
Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

  • Re: Possible to download VZ backup assistant data to Storm

I just got the Blackberry Pearl 8239 flip, and had to find a way to get my messages off of a LG phone with Backup Asst. (I have Verizon). After a lot of research and some mistakes,  was able to successfully (more or less) get my info into my phone without having to retype it all. It's not perfect or super fast, but it is easier than manual typing if you have 100+ contacts. Here's what I did:
    1. Hopefully you already had Backup assistant, and had your contacts backed up recently.
    2. Go to Backup assistant on your computer and click on the "print" icon.
    3. Highlight all of your contacts (not the headers), and copy them (cntrl c or the Copy tabon your pull down menu)
    4. Open up Excel. (I actually used  Open Office Calc--same thing, but Open Source.)
    5. Paste your contacts.
    6. Clean them up. You may see, as I did, the words "email, work, mobile, etc all over the place. You do not want them there. You amy also see that several numbers are in one column. You want separate columns for each type of information (mobile #, home # etc.) This is also a good time to get rid of numbers for people you really don't need any more. One mistake I made was to keep the first and last names in the same column, so i was unable to separate these at import (well I cold have redone it all, but it was a long day!) I recommend taking the time during this step or you will be editing all of your contacts later as I am!
    7. Save file under any name, but with a .csv extension. Ignore any warnings you might get because of changing the extension. If you are worried, save it twice, once under the xml and once under csv.
    8. Open Microsoft Outlook.  Open File>Import>Other Address Book. Highlight the "Text file, Comma Separated Values" When the window opens, click browse and find your .csv file.
    9. Microsoft Outlook will ask you questions about various fields, based on your first contact entry.  You need to correctly assign fields for last name, first name, etc.Click Finish. You might want to check out your address book inOutlook just to be sure it's all therethe way you want it--It's easier to delete your address book here and start over than delete all your contacts once they are in your phone.
    10. Open the Blackberry Desktop Manager and be sure your phone is connected to it. From the Main Menu, click Synchronize>Syncronization (under Configure).
11.Click on the Synchronization button and check "Address Book," and then click setup. You will be give several options of programs to synchronize with. Choose Outlook (obviously.) The Desktop Manager will download the files, check with you to make sure you really want them and presto (sort of) you are done!
I hope this helps! It really was much simpler than manual typing! Good luck!

    hi,
i have a blackberry storm and i went to open the backup assistant program and every time it asks me to enter my pin to restore data. i am trying to save changes to my address book i made on my phone, not restore from my backups. does anybody knoe how to fix this  ?
To resolve this issue when you open up Backup Assistant select the # symbol for forgot password. Once you do this then select the # symbol again to set up as a new user. After you do this then select to sync contacts and all of your contacts to your Backup Assistant account.
2nd question - i made changes to the phone numbers listed in my backup online to remove the ( ) and the dashes in my phone numbers since the speed dail numbers won't work the blackberry with ( ) and dashes in the numbers. I make the changes to the numbers, but after i save it they are still there. I am worried that if i run the sync from the backup **bleep**'t website it will throw the () anddashes back into my contavts, which i don'r want. anybody have this issue or would be able to answer my question(s)  /
On this option the () and -'s are programmed to be set into the phone numbers of your contacts. The way to get around this when you choose to add a speed dial choose to do it by contact. When you do it this way it will not matter if you have the () and -'s in it. The speed dial will still work correctly.
    Hope this helps.

  • Bizarre WiFi Connectivity Issue; Self-Assigned IPs, Static IP Doesn't work

The short and sweet of the problem: Macs/Apple Devices are pulling self-assigned IP addresses when connecting to a Linksys EA6900/AC1900 router.
Here’s the detail: I am working at an office with 1 Airport Extreme and 1 Linksys EA6900/AC1900, both are configured for Bridge Mode and both use WPA. DHCP is being handled by a Watchguard XTM5 series firewall.
When Macs (and often iPhones) connect to the Linksys (on 2.4 or 5Ghz) they get a self-assigned IP address. If you enter a manual address you still do not have any connectivity. However, if you connect to the Extreme you will instantly get an IP address, and if you switch to the Linksys your DHCP address will carry over and you will retain connectivity. This problem does not happen to the Windows machines in the office- they all connect to all base stations without any issue. Total users on the network range from 5 to 20 WiFi users at any given time plus and AppleTV (also affected).
More info: When there are between 5-10 people in the conference room for a morning meeting the Macs will all revert to self-assigned addresses (even if they were working before). The workaround has been to connect to the Extreme, but there are occasions when this occurs that the Extreme will also not seem to pass the DHCP addresses from the firewall; addresses become self-assigned and you lose all internet. To make matters more odd, this behavior seems to really only affect the network during business hours; after hours the Linksys works pretty much normally and any device can connect without issue.
Things I’ve done: Run Wireshark and located a number of rogue devices that were handing out overlapping DHCP addresses. Identified machines that were ARP storming and removed them. Expanded the DHCP pool so that we aren’t running out of addresses and confirmed that we had enough by checking the logs.
More things I’ve done: Used Netspot to check signal strength and channel overlap and isolation. I have mapped the signal strength by location and we have strong signals to the various locations (the Linksys AP is 7 feet from the conference room). I have checked that the firmware is the most recent version.
I can’t find any logical reason for the Macs (and pretty much only the Macs/Apple devices) to not be picking up DHCP info through the bridge mode devices. I would tell them to get another Extreme but they are going to be deploying a Cisco Meraki system soon and I suspect that this problem will persist since the Linksys was put in place because the last AP displayed the same behavior with the Macs picking up self-assigned IPs. Affected Macs range from 2010 era MBP and Air to 2013 MBP and Air and they are running OSX 10.8 through 10.10.
As for the history of this network, I just walked into this company and know very little about how well it worked before, but apparently it has always been flaky according to the staff.

I agree that something isn't right; I am going to cut over DHCP services from the Watchguard to the newly deployed OS X Server tonight and see  if that changes anything.
On the other hand, faulty DHCP server/client settings doesn't explain why applying a static IP still leaves you with no connectivity. I think that clue is also fairly important but I can't figure out what would be blocking connectivity on a static IP setup.

  • Problems with Storm 9530 after software update

Greetings, I am new to this forum and hope I am in the right place.
After an email prompt from BlackBerry, Yesterday, I updated my software on my Verizon BlackBerry Storm, 9530.
    Now I have several problems;
    1.  Voice commands are not being recognized as easily as previously, making hands free calling almost impossible.
    2.  Pandora will stall near the end of each selection.  The song will resume after I push the pause and then the play button.
    3.  When I attempt to live stream from a local radio station, I get the following message: "! This playlist contains no valid songs"    Buffering... is displayed in the upper right hand corner, but no connection is ever made.
Any ideas what I need to do to fix the thing?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
    1) A known bug...we all hope that RIM is working on a fix.
    2) A known bug...Pandora is working on a fix. I have heard that it is available on their website but not yet via AppWorld.
    3) Very difficult to diagnose...it could be the website itself...it could be your device browser settings....it could be a number of things. Try these steps.
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    Register with VZW:
    Dial *228, select option 1
    Dial *228, select option 2
    Register HRT:
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > BBKey (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    Resend Service Books:
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Websites can be coded to perform better with some browsers rather than others. The BB Browser can appear to websites as several different things...that setting is, from within the Browser App, (BBKey > Options > Browser Configuration > Browser Identification). Changing that to another browser might help your BB interact better with some websites. In combination with all of the other configuration settings, you need to find the combination of all of these settings that works best for the sites you are visiting. Sadly, there is no "best advice" to give as each persons needs are different. But, I typically find that changing the Browser Identification often helps -- most often by changing to FF or IE (if those are available to you...the options vary by carrier).
Hopefully something in there will get you going again.
    Good luck!

  • N97 camera operting by it self all the time .

hello, i have a horrible problem with my nokia n97 , the camera suddenly open by it self and when i click exit it will open again and so on ..
now i cant use my mobile for any thing because the camera operting every each second !!
please help me i am desspred !! i cant send messges or doing any !!

sounds like a hardware problem, you need to visit a Nokia Care Point, just out of interest, do you carry the phone in a case with a magnetic clip ? Opening the cover activates the camera, and I have read before of users having this problem as the magnetised holder clip causes the camera to activate.
Before taking the phone to Nokia Care Point it may be worth trying a hard reset and re-installing the latest software, but it sounds like a physical problem ? If you do a reset, ONLY back up your contacts, Calendar and Notes, NOTHING else , as a full backup and restore will re-install the problem if it is a software issue. Dial *#7370# followed by 12345, then set up the phone manually .
    Good Luck

  • Freetalk-1200 Connect.Me speed dial problem

Just received my long awaited Connect.Me and it's been working just as I expected. The only problem I encountered was that I couldn't assing speed dial numbers to 2 of my contacts. Others work perfectly, when I click them, box of information appears to the middle of the screen, but when I click one of the two with the problem, nothing happens.
I have tried everything like resetting from the button and from the web UI, deleting and adding them again to my contacts but nothing helps. Adding new contacts works fine. I would not rather create a new Skype account for my self - nor ask these two friends to make a new account for themselves - just because of this problem. Any kind of advice is welcome
    Cheers from Finland!

Skype hasn't supported speed dials in it's software for some time.  It's considered a legacy feature. The use of speed dials is configured through the Freetalk Connect Me web interface, not the Skype client.  You need to sign into your Connect Me device via your web browser and click on "Contacts and Speed Dials".  Once there all your contacts will be listed on the left pane.  Select any one of those contacts and click "ADD TO SPEED DIAL".  It will assign a speed dial number incrementally on the right pane.  You can change that number to a number of your choosing (0-99) at any time.  That's all it takes to set up.  If you recently add a contact it my not show on that list.  If it doesn't sign off the client in which you added the contact or contact changes, then power cycle the Connect Me box and log back in.  It should update.  If it does not, the only other alternative is to do a factory reset on the unit so that it will purge the list and updated it with the latest copy.  Below I attached an image of the screen, though it may take some time until it gets approved and displayed to the general public.

  • Self assigned ip may not be able to connect?

hello. I have an ibook g4 1ghz 1gram osx10.5.5. I purchased a wifi usb adapter with antenna from hawking technologies. I have attempted dozens of times to connect to any number of wireless networks that it detects. I have established connections with a link quality of 90 percent and link quality upwards of 80 percent however despite thehigh percentages i get no data transfer whatsoever and the network settings in the network preferences tells me that the wifi usb adapter has a self assigned ip and may not be able to connect. Or it will say that it has no ip. Also. I do not have a wireless network in m.y home i am attempting to connect through other wireless networks in my apt building

    Hi there:
In attempting to detect and connect to existing wireless networks in
your vicinity, there are things to consider. One of them, is, security.
Theirs may be locked, and inaccessible to your wireless hardware.
Some of those you detect may not be usable to your hardware,
since some closed systems (not accessible from outside) may
use the same wi-fi frequencies as other wi-fi hardware, but not
take you to the internet. They may be wireless local networks.
Depending on the operating system in your computer, you can
get a few good widgets for Dashboard which can help you see
and tell what kind of wi-fi (and strength, locked/unlocked, and
what channel these are using, etc) and for the sake of testing
you could then find if any are able to be visited temporarily to
see if you really do have a valid and working wi-fi setup there.
Another alternative with portable computers, is to go to a private
or public area where they offer wireless internet access; some do
for a limited time (customers) or for some duration while you are
inside their establishment; some don't allow you to be outside
their place and login. Some public libraries allow you to take a
portable computer inside and use their 'free' wi-fi system; and
of those, it is not uncommon for them to issue a password...
And these passwords change, so as to discourage outside
theft of the service or easy hacking by those who are bored.
If you had an IP address (an account of your own, to address
your equipment to go online through) this issue would be an
easier one to resolve. There are ways of resetting a wi-fi
modem, and also proper settings in the configuration to allow
accessing a wireless network. Some of the hardware you'd
use may require setup with an Ethernet cable in order to
have a base station or other setup be properly configured.
Some of the basic setup issues which sound like yours are
centered on first not finding a network to interface with; and
also in how the settings and other details are entered into it.
If you were already set up and had your own internet provider,
then full troubleshooting of the full issue would be possible.
The AirPort software and wireless configuration software in
    your computer allows you to set up several different ways;
some are almost automatic, and would detect and let you
see the names of networks (even if you can't log into them.)
The most often encountered answer to an issue of your IP
self-assigned address situation, would be something along
the lines of this link's suggestion: "Self-Assigned IP address..."
    http://www.ehmac.ca/mac-ipod-help-troubleshooting/59734-self-assigned-ip-address -issue.html#post619612
The Network system pref panel allows you several ways of
setting up different types of networks; among them, Ethernet,
Dial-up, AirPort, etc. The ones you want to be active can be
chosen from a list (checkbox by ones you want) and also may
be dragged into the order of likely operability; or order of use.
If you have a base station (many of which can repeat a signal)
the options change somewhat, since there is an Airport Admin
utility that can change settings on your own base station, and
to be able to reset that, when it would be available to do so,
can also make the self-assigned IP situation go away...
Your network configuration is basically not setup properly; and
some of the online searches of this issue parallel the topic link
    I posted above. Check for those which do NOT follow that lead;
and try to see if another set of instructions may do the trick.
What OS version and step is your computer using now? Do you
know if the wireless card is integrated or separate, in a compart-
ment under the keyboard? If the wireless card shows in the
System Profiler and it appears active, one can hope it is working.
Another issue may be that of the internal antenna. Using an
external USB wi-fi module removes the need to have an internal
antenna, but an existing AirPort card may be giving the System
another choice from which to choose; so another user selection
from settings in the proper control panels is required in that case.
Some of those settings and what not are outlined again in this forum
link to another situation where someone couldn't get past a self-assign-
ed IP address to go online: "10.4 - AirPort Self-Assigned IP address..."
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55793
At this hour, I really don't remember what I did when my computer's
settings didn't want to connect by wireless. My first setup was with
wireless through my Extreme base station's dialup modem, so I could
use my iBook white G3 wireless, from a dialup internet connection.
The same base station, some years later, is still working fine with DSL.
A second one, some miles away, is on cable modem providing wi-fi.
Write back and tell me what settings you have and what you have
changed. And more about the system; also, if you've set the computer
to automatic and visited a place such as a public library's free internet.
    Good luck & happy computing!
