  • Self Service Web Apps

    Hi gurus,
I have 12.1.3 running on 11.2.0.2 on Suse Linux Enterprise Server. I have iSupplier setup with one apps tier box sitting in DMZ (web only) and another apps tier box within out network (cm, web, forms, admin). How can I find out the the number of iSupplier users logging in for a date range and also how can I find out the maximum number of concurrent users for iSupplier?
    Thanks,

  • Excel Services Web App Refresh failure

I started having an issue where manual refreshes of my Excel Workbooks are failing after installing SP1 in my Office Web Apps 2013 farm.  The workbooks are configured to use a target application ID from the secure store service and they refresh fine
when opened in the Excel client application, just not in the browser.  The error is "An error occurred while accessing application ID XXXX from the secure store service.
Nothing seems to show up in the ULS logs either when this happens.
    Any ideas?

  • Host Header Site Collection and Web App Setup - Thoughts

I am trying to understand relation between AAM and web app extension .Please share your expert opinion. I have not seen any TechNet article talking about it clearly.
Here it goes: in 2010 it was recommended Not to use AAM with IIS bindings without extending the web application. This was mentioned in several TechNet articles also its  a known “Mistake #4” on TechNet articles.
So question is, is that still the same case in 2013?
Most of the times it is recommended to remove web app host header from IIS if you are using this web app for HHSC, otherwise sites will not be accessible. I have find no issues by leaving web app host header and adding more bindings for host header site
collections any thoughts on this ?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I found some articles for helping understand Extend web application and
    Alternate access mappings.
“If you want to expose the same content in a Web application to different types of users by using additional URLs or authentication methods, you can extend an existing Web application into a new zone. When you extend the Web application into a new zone,
you create a separate Internet Information Services (IIS) Web site to serve the same content, but with a unique URL and authentication type. An extended Web application can use up to five network zones (Default, Intranet, Internet, Custom, and Extranet). For
example, if you want to extend a Web application so that customers can access content from the Internet, you select the Internet zone and choose to allow anonymous access and grant anonymous users read-only permissions. Customers can then access the same Web
application as internal users, but through different URLs and authentication settings..”
After you extend web application, there is a new site created in IIS but the content are the same. We extend it to a new zone for different authentication methods, so that we could support different security between Internet site, Intranet site and Extranet
    site.
“Alternate access mappings direct users to the correct URLs during their interaction with SharePoint 2013. Alternate access mappings enable SharePoint 2013 to map web requests to the correct web applications and sites, and they enable SharePoint 2013 to
serve the correct content back to the user.”
AAM is to offer different urls to users to access one site. Sometimes the url of a site is not easy to remember , we could use AAM to create simple url.

  • Web Apps doesn't read Word, nor reads/edits Powerpoint, but allows read/edits Excel, Sharepoint 2010

I'll keep this short and sweet. Hopefully some light can be shed on my scenario and a solution.
I have a Server 2008 R2 with Sharepoint 2010 and Office Web Apps setup. The installations went off without a hitch, and I setup a Site Collection with several other children websites beneath it.
Currently, the three different file types have three different kinds of  behaviors. These behaviors are assuming the user has full control of the document from AD/Sharepoint's point of view.
Spreadsheets can be read in browser and edited in browser. Everything works fine here.
Word documents cannot be read from browser, but they can be edited normally like one would expect. After sitting there for ~two minutes, it gives the error: "Word Web App cannot open this document because the server is still processing the document."
PowerPoint doesn't let any user read or edit any presentation. When trying to read, it says "Either network connectivity has been lost or the server is too busy to service your request. Check your network connection." when trying to edit, it says
"PowerPoint web app encountered an error."
Odd. =/ What bothers me is that the behaviors aren't consistent, they differ among all three. If it were the same I'd think connectivity or permissions issues. Ie, content db only allows read, thus all 3 services only have read permissions on the db, that
sort of thing. To my understanding, during the installation the default pools/accounts were used("Sharepoint Web Services Default", "NT AUTHORITY\Network Service", etc).
This is what I've tried so far:
Back to square 1: Is it installed? Is it activated? Yes to both. It installed normally and it's activated in Site Collection(Site Col Admin -> Site Col Features -> OWA is active).
Restarted the PP and Word viewing services. No change. (I tried deleting the service app and making a new one with the same name, no dice. Also tried making sure the Word Vieweing Svc App was under the existing application pool, entitled "Sharepoint
Web Services Default". Even tried making a new application pool and having it under Predefined -> "Network Service", and trying other pools still got me nothing)
Under Manage Service Connections (App Management-> Manage Web Apps), the Word Viewing Service, Excel Service application, and PowerPoint Service application proxy were all checked(among the other things checked).
(One thread I saw on Sharepoint Stack Exchange said trying to change browser file handilng from strict to permissive didn't work either.)
What could be going on that's restricting those actions on Word/PP documents? Only potential thing that might be screwing things up is my SQL server that houses the content DB for my web app is on a different server than Sharepoint/OWA. I don't know what
would be interfering however. Is there a different permission set for the different OWA services? How would I check what OWA is using to connect to the content DBs(and which ones are they using, along with what permissions they have vs what they should have)?
Is there something I missed? Will uninstalling and reinstalling OWA help in any way(as long as I don't lose my documents!)?
Anything to get me at least on the right track would be appreciated, thanks =)

Anybody have any ideas at all? At this point I'm willing to try just about anything..

  • Jumping from oracle apps 11.0 to web apps

<<I do not know which is the proper forum for this question so if any has a suggestion of which forum to post this in I would be appreciative>>
We have a situation where we have a screen in a module in the Oracle Apps 11.0 which has a part number. We want to be able to zoom from that field into a web application which will take that part no and move directly to the web page with all the pertinent info.
Our problem is that the web applications of course want the user to login as well, even though the user has already logged into oracle apps. I can garnish the user id from the oracle apps but not the password. The web apps requires for proper validation of the session the user login name and the password.
In talking to Oracle about this they give the standard line that this is something for Oracle Consulting and will provide no further support. Is there anyway that one can seamlessly transition from apps to web apps?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    hi ,
Well there is an option to deploy oracle 11i apps's form or build web page using 'self service WEB applications '.You have to make some neccessary changes in 'config' files needed for it...If u can pass the session in developer forms and report then it's possible in all other oracle application also b'cos it's all upgradation of one from another..
well refer the 11i doc's technical---->Products--->oracle self service web applications implementation manual.
if u get any new information,i would also be happy to hear from u

This is a fresh SharePoint Foundation 2010 install following well documented steps that have worked on other servers.  The OS is 2008 R2.  The error in the log file is the following:

The app pool for the "SharePoint Web Services Root" is running under the LocalSystem account.  I have verified that the SYSTEM account has access (full) to all the MachineKeys in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys folder.
Any idea on what the permission is causing this problem?
Just as a side note, all the Excel services, web apps activation, etc. have all been confirmed they are setup, running, etc.  No errors are logged in the event log.

If your application uses impersonation or the IUSR_MACHINENAME user, then configure the MachineKeys folder security rights and give the following rights to the user:
Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, Write
    Hi Rob,
From the error message "Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException: Access is denied", we can know this issue was caused by access denied. Based on your description, you known that. It is great.
However, I would like to mention that the Excel Calculation Services is running under another application pool other than the SharePoint Web Services Root. So the application pool account may be different.
Please follow these steps to get the application pool account:
    1. Open Internet Information Server(IIS) manager.
    2. Expand the site "SharePoint Web Services"
    3. Select each application under the site
    4. Click "Basic Settings..." from the right panel.
    5. Repeat step 3 and 4 till we get the application that has path like C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\WebServices\Shared\ExcelCalculationServer from the "Basic Settings"
    6. Now, get the application pool name from the "Basic Settings"(Edit applicatoin) dialog.
    7. Go to Application pools
    8. Select the Excel Calculation Services application pool.
    9. click "Advanced Settings" from the right panel.
Now, we can get the application pool account from the "Advanced Setting" dialog.
Please make sure this account has permissions to write key to Machine Keys folder.
Alternatively, use the Process Monitor to monitor which account is used to write file to the machine key folder. We can filter the Result column to check who is denied to access the folder.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Office Web Apps Error after SP 2013 September 2014 CU

    Hello  Everyone,
I have a single front end and single SQL server for my SharePoint 2013 deployment.  I also have Office Web Apps setup and running.  However after installing SP 1 and the latest September 2014 CU it appears our users are seeing the below prompt
when open a Word doc in Office Web Apps.
However I am finding that if they use IE 9 or 10 and even Firefox everything works normal.  This appears to be affecting just Word.
As for my Office Web Apps server it is still at Version 15.0.4420.1017 (RTM)
If I need to update my Office Web Apps server what order should i do.  SP1, July, then Sept?
    Thanks,
    Ian...

You need to apply office web app update.
It should be in below order.
