SELinux - enabling/disabling for Fedora Core (solution)

SELinux (Security Enhanced Linux) is a package that is available on all RedHat and Fedora distributions. Unfortunately the firewall capabilities interfere with Oracle and XE.
It's not an easy package to configure (some say it makes sendfile.cf easy) so the current default choice is to turn it off.
From the man page,
The /etc/selinux/config configuration file controls whether SELinux is enabled or disabled, and if enabled, whether SELinux operates in permissive mode or enforcing mode. The SELINUX variable may be set to any one of disabled, permissive, or enforcing to select one of these options.
For RedHat Advanced Server 4.0, you can disable secure linux by editing the /etc/selinux/config file, making sure the SELINUX flag is set as follows:
SELINUX=disabled
or, at installation,
Firewall Configuration
* For the purposes of this walk-through, no firewall is configured. Select No firewall
* Select Disabled on the "Enable SELinux" drop down list.
* Click on Proceed when the "Warning - No Firewall" window appears.
Fedora Core 2/3/4: Adding selinux=0 to your kernel command line disables SELinux at boot. Optionally, you can disable SELinux in run time in the latest Fedora Core 2 kernel by setting SELINUX=disabled in /etc/sysconfig/selinux.

Searches on the net and Metalink for the keltnfy-lmdInit suggest there is a problem in the name resolution.

  • Oracle  database for Fedora Core 7 (x86_64)

I want to install Oracle database on Fedora core 7(x86_64). I tried with 10201_database_linux_x86_64.cpio.gz setup but it does not support Fedora core 7 platform. Please suggest me where to find the proper setup.
    Thanks in advance

    This trick, from a previous thread worked for me for Redhat 5. You might wanna use it for Fedora;
Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
    Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini
Add the name of your distribution on this line. It might work for you

  • Which version of Ocale 9i to download for Fedora Core Linux ?

    Hi.
I just bought an external drive to install Red Hat Linux Fedora (which I got from Sams Teach Yourself ...).
Im looking here http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/index.html to decide which version of Oracle 9i I should use.
My new external drive is connected to my laptop, which is an Inspiron 6000.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks again.
    DA

So if I installed 10g then, which one would I choose
    for Fedora?
    Linux x86
    Linux x86 -64 ??
Thanks.Really ... rocket science ain't all that hard. Let's take a look at your rocket science:
if your hardware is 32 bit, any 64-bit stuff will not work.
if your hardware is 64 bit, and you chose a 32 bit operating system, any 64 bit applications will not work (and in this case the oracle database is an application)
if you hardware and your operating system are 64 bit, any 32 bit application or 64 bit application will work as long as you have the correct libraries (DLLs) installed.
then you decide whether the benefit of 64 bit is greater than the overhead of 64 bit
    So ...........
if you have an Inspiron 6000 with the Pentium M processor, you may not have 64 bit capability.
if you have a 32-bit Fedora (which you don't bother stating, do you?) you may not have 64 bit capability
if you do not have 64 bit capability, don;t bother with the 64 bit version of Oracle.

  • RAC - Determine all instances whether enabled/disabled for inventory purpose

    Hello All,
I can't seem to figure out to get all the instance and hostnames in my cluster when some of the instances are disabled.
My scenario is that I have 5 nodes and 3 of the 5  are disabled in clusterware.
I'm loging into one of the active instances, and when I select from  GV$INSTANCE, I only see the active/enabled instances. On the other hand, the parameter "cluster_database_instances" shows 5.
For inventory purposes I need to determine all 5 instance names, all 5 hostnames. How can I do this from SQL.
Thanks in advance for any assistance or pointers.
    Sincerely
    JS

    Hi,
If you want to query on the database, you can use the one below:
    select p2.value inst_id, p1.value instance_name, decode(i.status,null,'OFFLINE',i.status) status
    from gv$parameter p1 join gv$parameter p2 on (p1.inst_id = p2.inst_id) left join gv$instance i on (p2.inst_id = i.instance_number)
    where p1.name = 'instance_name' and p2.name = 'instance_number';

  • Cannot go to the Internet from Mac OSX, and Fedora Core 5

All Windows users (XP, 2000, Vista Beta) can connect to the Internet no problem on WRT54G with Firmware v4.20.6 (may 26, 2005). But odd enough, though getting the right DHCP assigned IP addresses and DNS server address, MacBook Pro (OS 10.4.1) and Fedora Core 5 cannot go to the internet at all using Safari and firefox browsers: the message keeps saying that your computer is not connected to the internet. Tested with BOTH wired and wireless connections, no luck to the internet. So, it's not about the wireless settings and setup. It doesn't work even if I directly connect the CAT5 cable to the router port.
Tested at wireless hotspots, at work where we have Cisco access points, and at a friend's place where there is netgear wireless router, MacBookPro is just working fine connected to the internet.
Any suggestions? Linksys doesn't support Mac and Linux PCs at all?

Thank you very much All (devildance, and Frank).
Seems like it is working fine now...
I reset the router as factory default, and reconfig the wireless setting(disable broadcasting SSID, configure TKIP PSK, and MAC filtering). Directly connected CAT5 cable from the router to my MacBookPro Windows XP. Working fine. Switched to Mac OSX, working fine. But, when I disconnected the LAN, and attempted to connect wireless, I couldn't go to the Internet using Safari and Firefox: keeps saying that your computer is not connected to the Internet.
Still could ping to 4.2.2.2 and 207.232.22.25, but getting errors "could not resolve the host name" when I pinged with the hostname bearshare.com.
Connected the wired CAT5. Working fine. Unplugged and used the wireless, could not get to the internet.
Checked the NICs settings on both LAN ethernet and wireless airport. All seems the same and correct: IP address, subnetmask and gateway address, and NO DNS entry. The same settings, but works on LAN cat5, and not works with wireless. So, for the sake of it, just manually added the DNS server IP addresses and domain names on wireless NIC. And Wala...it is working fine with wireless. Still strange the fact that Ethernet LAN NIC still doesn't have any DNS entries and working fine, but required DNS entries on wireless NIC.
For Fedora Core, could ping and resolve names without changing any settings. But when going to the Internet, got the error saying "comcast doesn't support this platform/OS" and another error "Welcome to Comcast High speed Internet....registration currently unavailable" when attempting to go any websites. Notieced that we pinging cnn.com, bearshare.com, or any websites, got ping reply from the same IP address which appears to be one of the comcast DNS server IP, 68.87.64.132.
So, I think it is a comcast issue not supporting Linux or something else which I would need to call to Comcast about...
But, thanks...looks like I can go to the Internet on Mac OSX, and Fedora core now with Linksys WRT54G. Thanks so much guys for all the suggestions....

  • Visual Studio TestStand API runtime enable/disable XML reporting file creation

I am looking for a Visual Studio C# solution to selectively disable creation of the report generation XML file using the TestStand API.
These XML files are useful for active troubleshooting for technicians, but wind up cluttering important directories with useless information most of the time.
I am aware that the XML file creation can be disabled through the TestStand Sequence Editor menu item Configure | Result Processing | Output Name Report | Enabled unchecked option.
    This is helpful, but:
    1. I have not found a way to check-uncheck this feature at runtime.
    2. I do not believe that this would be an effective solution for my instal-less Base Deployment Paradigm.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you for the quick and concise response James_Grey!
This is useful, complete, and implementable but not exactly what I was hoping for.
I was hoping to be able to enable/disable the XML file creation for the currently executing instance of the engine prior to sequence start.
I would rather not disable reporting through a configuration file that would effectively disable it for all uses of TestStand until it was re-enabled again.
    Are my expectations unrealistic?
Does anyone have any idea how creation of the XML file can be enabled/disabled for an active instance of the engine prior to sequence start through the API without altering the file based configuration of TestStand?
I have seen some postings around 2008 that indicate this can be done, but I was unsuccessful implementing those solutions in TestStand 2013.

    2) XE Forum. If you have XE working and can get to the web page, you should see the link to register for the XE forum. You must register and then 'sign in' to see the XE forum. The link on your XE home page should point to http://www.oracle.com/technology/xe/registration'
    1) What's the difference ... ?
OK ... here we go ....
Oracle has hundreds of products. I like to group them into 'technology' and 'application' products.
The 'technoloy' products I group into
    - data management == database
    - data access == applicaiton server (fusion)
    - data manipulation == developer tools and languages
    - data sharing == collaboration suite
Without data access, the data management and data manipulation is plain 'client-server' stuff.
With data access, you stick an application server (web server, J2EE server, other server) between the client and the database.
The Oracle Application Server is a collection of Oracle technology designed to support n-tier computing. The technology includes:
    - http server (Apache stuff)
    - reporting server
    - portal server
    - forms/data entry server
    - generic J2EE server
    - BPEL and SOA orchestration
    - Web Services server
    - workflow and intergration server
    - centralized security and single sign-on server
    and a lot more.
The Oracle database, of course, stores and manages data. Oracle now has many 'database managers', including
    - Oracle Database == the traditional one
    - Times Ten == in memory only, but very high speed
    - Berkeley == embedded (to be included as part of your application)
    - Lite == for laptops and remote devices
    and more
The traditional Oracle database has many features. These features may not be needed by all organizations. So Oracle has created several editions. These are Express, Standard Edition One, Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition and Personal Edition. In the order presented, each adds more feature than the one before but includes all the features from the one before.
The Express Edition has the fewest features and the simplest install. It has no official Oracle support and has size limitations (4GB data max, only runs one 1 CPU). It includes Application Express which allows you to access the data from a web browser. I think of this as 'Microsoft Access, with Oracle multi-user reliability, on the Web'.
The Standard Edition One has everything from Express and adds: Java in the database, ability to use up to 2 CPU, many more features such as multi-media storage, no data size limit. It also changes the install to use the Oracle Univeral Installer.
Standard Edition adds Real Application Cluster to allow up to 4 CPU to be used, whether the 4 CPU are on one, two or four machines.
Enterprise Edition adds many high availability and scalability features to ensure the database will try to stay up all the time and will be able to handle many hundreds or thousands of users. Many DBA features are added to allow detailed tuning and management. And many options such as Partitioning, Label Security and Spatial can be purchased and added to this edition.
Personal Edition includes all of Enterprise Edition AND all of the Enterprise Edition options except Real Application Cluster. It is designed to be used by the Oracle developer so it is very inexpensive (in comparison to the Enterprise Edition) but it is limited (by the honor system) to one user access.
So when you use Express Edition, everytthing you do can be done in Enterprise Edition as well. Express Edition is a great learning tool for getting comfortable with the commercial Oracle database. It is also a great tool for developing applications for small organizations or even for home use. A great tutorial for XE is at http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/tutorial/DBXETutorial/index.htm
All of this is described in a few pages of documentation (about 70 thousand) at http://docs.oracle.com. If you want to understand Oracle well, you may have to spend a bit less time with the nuns for a while.

  • Is there a way to enable/disable a tabular form item based on the value of a second item?

    Hi Everyone,
I have a tabular form based on a collection.   The column c050(maps to f30) will be either Y/N.  If it is Y, then I would like to enable column c024( maps to f24) (which happens to be a radio button based on lov).  If the value of c050 = N, then disable c024.   There are potentially many rows, and the item c024 would only be enable/disabled for the specific row.   So if row 1 has c050=Y and row 2 has C050=N then row 1 c024 is enabled, and row 2 c024 is disabled.  Hope that makes sense.
I have created a dynamic action called enable/disable HMS fields.
    event=CHANGE
    selection type = jquery selector
    jquery selector = input[name='f30']
    condition EQUAL TO
    value Y
    true action1 - enable, jquery selector, input[name='f24']
true action 2 - alert, You have added an HMS Species.   There may be additional data to enter.  thanks
    false action1 - disable jquery selector, input[name='f24']
false action2 - alert, no hms worries.
The alerts in both cases show properly...but nothing seems to happen to f24.....what am I doing wrong?
    thanks

Agh! This is the first time you mention this is a radio button!  That changes things a lot! As you can see, the format is different (f24_0001_0001) than what we have discussed (f24_0001).
Radio buttons have their own quirks.  My bad, I should have asked what you had.  But since you said your original selectors on input were working I just thought these were text fields or something like that.
How about you change it to a drop down list just so that you can see all work?  And fully understand it.
Then you can work out the radio button option.
If that doesn't get you there... I'm going to ask you setup an example in apex.oracle.com and give me credentials to log in and take a look.
I could re-try the js on my side with a radio but it will take some time.
So just to be clear... f30 is a drop down and f24 is a radio?
    See, this line:
    $x_disableItem("f24_" + row, true);
Is NEVER going to find the radio buttons because it's missing the 3rd 0001 and 0002 (how many options do you have?)
So perhaps you try it like this:
    $x_disableItem("f24_" + row + '_0001', true);
    $x_disableItem("f24_" + row + '_0002', true);
... keep going for the options...
Do the same for the false of course.
But I think this needs a better approach if you'll have radio buttons.  I just need to work it out.
    Ok, go try things...
    Thanks

  • Missing Enterprise Manager on Fedora Core 2

Enterprise Manager for Linux Fedora Core 10g Aug 19, 2001 8:01 PM
    Reply
Enterprise Manager Fedora Core 2 with Oracle 10g.
I can not locate OEMAPP anywhere on my disk. I have reinstalled the system several times, but it does not seem to get installed on my computer.
I have no problem with the system otherwise, and can run Enterprise Manager (oemapp.bat) from an XP workstation and connect.
I have selected a custom install as well, and it does not install the program.
    I can run
    emctl start dbconsole
and run Enterprise Manager thru HTML (localhost:5100)
but would very much like to run the graphical version.
    Can anyone assist?
Can I extract it from the CPIO?
    Can I download it somewhere?
I have seen that many others have run into this same issue, but have not been able to locate any resolution.
Anyone know how I can install it?
Has anyone tried to run 10g on Fedora core 3?
    Thanks.

Fedora Core 2 works fine with the Mega-180.  It has good
hardware detection capabilities and driver support for many
devices to get your PC up and running.  LCD support is
non-existant for Linux.  MSI better do something about this
before the competitors leave them further in the dust.
The longer MSI fails to fully support its products, the greater
the chance the SFF division is going to get turfed for lack
of profitability (eg dismal sales and continued bad reputation
as looks will only get you so far).
Create three CD-ROMs from the ISOs.  The fourth CD-ROM
may not be required.  The problem here is to find a fast
download mirror.  Try http://ftp://ftp.telus.net which is where I got
    mine.
If you have the room on your HDD you may just want to stuff
as much into the initial install as possible.  Beats having to
find out you need to install something later.  Since Linux is
new to you, chances are you will reinstall at a later date anyways
so don't worry if you system is not tuned, etc.
Once you have a working Internet connection to your Mega 180
go grab the latest chipset and video drivers from nVidia.  You
don't have to have them to have a working OS.  Print out the
installation documentation (easier to read paper).
For Fedora Core docomentation I just downloaded all the
Red Hat 9.0 PDF files and printed them off.  This could be
close to 1000 pages or so as I have a stack at least 2"
high.  This information makes an excellent base reference
point.  Easy to read but rather long.
Then experiment from there.  During install - do request
both KDE and Gnome GUIs.  This allows you flexibility to
observer how both work.  I prefer KDE.
Good luck - keep at it and eventually Linux will make it
to your everyday desktop but keep that M$ stuff handy
as not everything can be done in the Linux world.

  • Oracle 10g for Fedora Linux 3 with Kernel 2.6.9

Can any body suggest a link, from where I can download the Oracle database 10g for Fedora Core 3 Linux with Kernel version 2.6.9-1*.
I went through the oracle site site but i was not able to find a one for Fedora 3 instead i found for Fedora 4.
    Thanks.......
    Suneel

You will not find one exactly as you require.
As I suggested in the duplicate link
Oracle 10g for Fedora Linux 3 with Kernel 2.6.9 you need to take a version of Oracle that seems to close to your Linux and then carefully tinker to make it work.,

  • How to diable only one field enabled and other fields disabled for one user group?

    Hi,
I have a form contains many fields. A group of users can add items using that form.
As per the user requirement I have created a filtered view and that filtered view can be seen by some other sharepoint user group but as per their further requirement the new sharepoint user group is only allowed to update Remarks field. All other fields
    should be disabled for them.
In my idea, I have to create multiple forms and in one of it except Remarks field all should be disabled but I am unable to assign multiple forms to a single list.
Or how to make Remarks field enable to this user group and for other admin user group all fields could be enabled.
Hope I have expressed my question correctly.
    Any solution would be appreciated.

There is no Out of the Box way to set permissions on each column, primarily due to the performance impact. The following thread provides some options,

  • Enable/disable ACLs for a volume

where is the option enable/disable ACLs for a volume in leopard server 10.5x?
I searched in Server Admin and there Volumes … but I cant find this option which is described in this forum ?!

    Hi
By default Access Control Lists (ACLs) are enabled on Leopard Server (10.5). The situation was different on Tiger Server (10.4) as you had to enable ACLs for each mounted volume.
To disable ACLs on Leopard Server you have to use the command line:
sudo fsaclctl -p path -d disable
    to disable and to enable:
sudo fsaclctl -p path -d enable
As with 10.4 you its a good idea to restart the server after disabling or enabling ACLs, otherwise ACLs won't take. Strictly speaking this should only be true of the Boot volume although in my view its worth doing it for any other mounted volume you are going to be using for sharing.
To display ACL status for all mounted volumes issue this command:
    fsaclctl -a
    for a specific volume its:
    fsaclctl -p path
where path is the name of the volume - you can drag drop the desired volume into the terminal window to show its full path. For example you could have:
    fsaclctl -p /
/ is terminal shorthand for the boot volume. Regardless of how you do it you should see something like this:
Access control lists are supported on /Volumes/Data HD
