Visual Studio TestStand API runtime enable/disable XML reporting file creation

I am looking for a Visual Studio C# solution to selectively disable creation of the report generation XML file using the TestStand API.
These XML files are useful for active troubleshooting for technicians, but wind up cluttering important directories with useless information most of the time.
I am aware that the XML file creation can be disabled through the TestStand Sequence Editor menu item Configure | Result Processing | Output Name Report | Enabled unchecked option.
This is helpful, but:
1. I have not found a way to check-uncheck this feature at runtime.
2. I do not believe that this would be an effective solution for my instal-less Base Deployment Paradigm.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

Thank you for the quick and concise response James_Grey!
This is useful, complete, and implementable but not exactly what I was hoping for.
I was hoping to be able to enable/disable the XML file creation for the currently executing instance of the engine prior to sequence start.
I would rather not disable reporting through a configuration file that would effectively disable it for all uses of TestStand until it was re-enabled again.
Are my expectations unrealistic?
Does anyone have any idea how creation of the XML file can be enabled/disabled for an active instance of the engine prior to sequence start through the API without altering the file based configuration of TestStand?
I have seen some postings around 2008 that indicate this can be done, but I was unsuccessful implementing those solutions in TestStand 2013.

  • Visual Studio 2010 Upgrade - Unable to view some reports

    I converted an application that had been developed in VS2005 so that it would run in VS2010.  The application contains several Crystal Reports.  Now when I debug the application I can only view some of the reports.  With the others I get an exception with the message "Unable to find the report in the manifest resources.  Please build the project and try again."
    The ones that work and the ones that don't all have the Build Action set to Embedded Resource.  I have tried removing a report from the project and then adding it back, but that made no difference.  A new report displayed fine.
    Does anyone have any ideas about what could cause some of the reports to throw this exception?

    OK, here is the link to the thread I am replying to Visual Studio 2010 Upgrade - Unable to view some reports

    As you can see, I have described the exception that occurs when I try to view some, but not all, or the reports while debugging.  I have also tried deleting a report and adding it back in but it made no difference.
    Is this enough information?

  • SharePoint 2010, Visual Studio 2010, Packaging a solution - The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.

    Hi,
    I have a solution that used to contain one SharePoint 2010 project. The project is named along the following lines:
    <Company>.<Product>.SharePoint - let's call it Project1 for future reference. It contains a number of features which have been named according
    to their purpose, some are reasonably long and the paths fairly deep. As far as I am concerned we are using sensible namespaces and these reflect our company policy of "doing things properly".
    I first encountered the following error message when packaging the aforementioned SharePoint project into a wsp:
    "The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters."
    I went through a great deal of pain in trying to rename the project, shorten feature names and namespaces etc... until I got it working. I then went about gradually
    renaming everything until eventually I had what I started with, and it all worked. So I was none the wiser...not ideal, but I needed to get on and had tight delivery timelines.
    Recently we wanted to add another SharePoint project so that we could move some of our core functinality out into a separate SharePoint solution - e.g. custom workflow
    error logging. So we created another project in Visual Studio called:
    <Company>.<Product>.SharePoint.<Subsystem> - let's call it Project2 for future reference
    And this is when the error has come back and bitten me! The scenario is now as follows:
    1. project1 packages and deploys successfully with long feature names and deep paths.
    2. project2 does not package and has no features in it at all. The project2 name is 13 characters longer than project1
    I am convinced this is a bug with Visual Studio and/or the Package MSBuild target. Why? Let me explain my findings so far:
    1. By doing the following I can get project2 to package
    In Visual Studio 2010 show all files of project2, delete the obj, bin, pkg, pkgobj folders.
    Clean the solution
    Shut down Visual Studio 2010
    Open Visual Studio 2010
    Rebuild the solution
    Package the project2
    et voila the package is generated!
    This demonstrates that the package error message is in fact inaccurate and that it can create the package, it just needs a little help, since Visual Studio seems to
    no longer be hanging onto something.
    Clearly this is fine for a small time project, but try doing this in an environment where we use Continuous Integration, Unit Testing and automatic deployment of SharePoint
    solutions on a Build Server using automated builds.
    2. I have created another project3 which has a ludicrously long name, this packages fine and also has no features contained within it.
    3. I have looked at the length of the path under the pkg folder for project1 and it is large in comparison to the one that is generated for project2, that is when it
    does successfully package using the method outlined in 1. above. This is strange since project1 packages and project2 does not.
    4. If I attempt to add project2 to my command line build using MSBuild then it fails to package and when I then open up Visual Studio and attempt to package project2
    from the Visual Studio UI then it fails with the path too long error message, until I go through the steps outlined in 1. above to get it to package.
    5. DebugView shows nothing useful during the build and packaging of the project.
    6. The error seems to occur in
    CreateSharePointProjectService target called at line 365 of
    Microsoft.VisualStudio.SharePoint.targetsCurrently I am at a loss to work out why this is happening? My next task is to delete
    project2 completely and recreate it and introduce it into my Visual Studio solution.
    Microsoft, can you confirm whether this is a known issue and whether others have encountered this issue? Is it resolved in a hotfix?
    Anybody else, can you confirm whether you have come up with a solution to this issue? When I mean a solution I mean one that does not mean that I have to rename my namespaces,
    project etc... and is actually workable in a meaningful Visual Studio solution.

    Hi
    Yes, I thought I had fixed this my moving my solution from the usual documents  to
    c:\v2010\projectsOverflow\DetailedProjectTimeline
    This builds ok, but when I come to package I get the lovely error:
    Error 2 The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters. C:\VS2010\ProjectsOverflow\DetailedProjectTimeline\VisualDetailedProjectTimelineWebPart\Features\Feature1\Feature1.feature VisualDetailedProjectTimeline
    Now, the error seems to be related to
    Can anyone suggest what might be causing this. Probably some path in an XML file somewhere. Here is my prime suspect!
    <metaData>
    <type name="VisualDetailedProjectTimelineWebPart.VisualProjectTimelineWebPart.VisualProjectTimeline, $SharePoint.Project.AssemblyFullName$" />
    <importErrorMessage>$Resources:core,ImportErrorMessage;</importErrorMessage>
    </metaData>
    <data>
    <properties>
    <property name="Title" type="string">VisualProjectTimelineWebPart</property>
    <property name="Description" type="string">My Visual WebPart</property>
    </properties>
    </data>
    </webPart>
    </webParts>
    .... Unless I can solve this I will have to remove the project and recreate but with simple paths. Tho I will be none the wiser if I come across this again.

  • Visual Studio Projects Not Showing FileVesion Leading Zeroes in File Properties

    I created a simple Visual Studio 2013 windows form application setting the AssemblyInfo.cs file as show below.
    // You can specify all the values or you can default the Build and Revision Numbers
    // by using the '*' as shown below:
    // [assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.*")]
    [assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.0.0227")]
    [assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("1.0.0.0227")]
    [assembly: AssemblyInformationalVersion("0.0.0.0227")]
    I built the application and went to the Windows File Explorer and brought up the file properties. What I see is that the product version showing the leading zeros, but the file version field does not show the leading zeros.
    It appears to be a bug either with Visual Studio or with Windows. Which one is it and is there a fix?

    Hi Sarah,
    We can't see the screenshot. Do you mean you use Windows Explorer to browse to the AssemblyInfo.cs file and check the property?
    If you change the product version or the file version from the AssemblyInfo.cs file, you need to firstly rebuild the assembly, then if you go to the debug/release folder, check the property of the assembly file, the Details tab will show you the corresponding
    changes of these properties. It's the assembly property but not the cs file property.

    What does "Updating the news Channel" mean? You mean that open the VS IDE, and then some links or videos showed in the start page.
    Maybe you could change some settings in your VS IDE under TOOLS->Options.
    As you said that the VS hanging when it connected to VSO, one idea is that you could post an issue to the VSO forum:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/home?forum=TFService
    In addition, for the performance issue, we would think about many elements.
    For example, the machine configurations, run the VS for a long time(we often restart the VS), the temp files(clean them), or the add-ins or extension tools (you could disable them), the third party processes in your task manager which make the CPU is high
    or others.
    Best Regards,

  • XQilla problem while building dbxml for Visual Studio 6

    I am simply trying to build dbxml 2.4.16 in Visual Studio 6 on XP Pro. I am following the instructions. It fails to to link when it gets to xqilla. It seems to compiile ok then fails while linking saying it cannot open file xqilla21d.lib.
    The only departure from the instructions was after it says the XercesLib.dsp makefile could not be generated by developer Studio and wraps the makefile for XercesLib.dsp and I save that as XercesLib1.dsp. The instructions say to build the XercesLib now, but the next thing that happens after I save XercesLib1.dsp is that it says it couldn't generate the makefile for xqillla and it asks about wrapping the xqulla makefile. The instructions didn't say anything about that. I said yes and it saved xqilla1.dsp then brings up all the classes in the classview. I can build the XercesLib1.exe fine. But then as I go to build all it eventually chokes giving the link error.
    Can anyone offer any help?
    Thanks,
    Curt

    George,
    Thanks for taking the time to reply, though it was pretty discouraging. We have a legacy application that would cost too much to move out of Visual Studio 6. The compile and link process was almost at the end and it seemed only xqilla remained. We only need use dbxml under Visual Studio 6 in order to put xml documents into a database, but we have a stiff requirement for speed so we cant' afford the speed penalty that would come from including a layer like .NET or something. If you think that it won't build under VS 6 anymore I'll try to deal with that. If you think that there is a way to get it to build and then do the minimal function of putting documents into a database, from Visual C++ I'd appreciate to hear any thing else you may have to say.
    Otherwise I'll just see if I can install VS 2003 .NET but not use the .NET and try that, or try Visual Studio 2005, again not using .NET.
    Thanks,
    Curt

  • Scrolling Header works in Visual Studio but not on Report Server 2008

    2008 R2 Reporting Services. My scrolling header works in Visual Studio but not when deployed to the Report Server and viewed in IE 9. I have read most every post on this issue and can't find a solution. I have the fixed data properties
    set correctly. Any suggestions?
    Help appreciated!
    Linda

    Hi Linda,
    As a suggestion, I would try to delete the deployed version and instead of deploying ther RDL file, i would try to upload the file and test it.
    If the issue exisit, then I would download the exisiting version from the reportserver and compare the xml versions of the two reports and check if the propoerty is getting over written while deploying.

  • Logon in Visual Studio Fails Only with NW 2004s

    Hi,
    Initially, I was working on a function to retrieve Performance-Log-History Data form a C# Application, using the .net-Connector and MS Visual Studio 2003.
    I got a "XML-Type Conversion" Problem, and found some entries in the SDN, that brought me to patch: the SAP Gui (640 to PL23), the .net Connector (Patch consists of two newer Version of the dlls.) and my Netweaver 2004s Test-Installation (basis Package 10).
    Now I have the Problem, that my Visual Studio does not allow me to connect to my NW2004 (a 4.6c and a 4.7 are working). The Error Message is: "Password logon no longer possible - too many failed attemps"
    I tried the following:
    - Upper-/ and lower Case USERName and Password Combinations
    - I can connect, without any trouble with SAP GUI (on the same Client, with the same User)
    - I used srfctest to test - also works perfect.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestion!
    Fritz

    Hi Fritz,
    how are you doing today?
    hopefully you are a lot less anxious about the problem now )
    thank you for the reward points.
    the UME on the ABAP stack is usually quite robust and error free [as per my experience] due to millions of hours of effort gone into it's evolution.
    treat the incident as an isolated event, in the event that you could reproduce the error, then it would be interesting to look at, but dont spend too much effort there.
    if software worked perfectly, we'd not be here posting questions, now would we ??
    with respect,

  • TestStand API terminate all notification

    I've developed a LabWindows based user interface using the TestStand UI controls and the TestStand API. I have a sequence file that has several cleanup steps, some of which take a while to finish. One function of the user interface is an Emergency Stop button. When this is pressed, an Engine.TerminateAll is issued via the API. The test fixture has 8 sockets which are using the Batch Model TestUUts entry point. Is there any easy way via callback or other means of knowing when all the terminations have completed. I would like to display a popup telling the operator to wait while the cleanup steps are being carried out. I also want to disable the START button and reenable it when the terminations are complete.
    I am launching the execution with TS_EngineNewExecution and I can get the id. I tried to wait until I saw this execution end with the ApplicationMgr  EndExecution event or the Execution VIew Manager EndExecution event but I saw a bunch of exection id's except the one that I was looking for. It may be my fault but I wanted to ask and see what is the best approach for what I am trying to accomplish.
    John

    Hey John,
    Your method will work, and your assumptions are partially
    correct.  If you look in the Batch Process Model, inside of the
    Cleanup Step Group of Test UUTs there are steps that tell all
    TestSocket executions to stop.  There is also a wait step that
    forces the Process Model execution to wait until all of the TestSocket
    executions have terminated. There are going to be multiple EndExecution
    events because it is going to occur for each execution that finishes
    whether it is the Process Model execution or one of the TestSocket
    executions. However, the Process Model will always be after all of the
    TestSocket executions have completed.
    Another thing to keep in mind is that this is only happening because it
    is built into the process model.  Normally if you spawn off a new
    execution it is separate from your original execution, and the new
    execution would not terminate by calling the terminate method on your
    original execution.  You would have to either do a terminate on
    each execution or use the terminate all method of the application
    manager. Hope this helps to clear things up a little.

  • C# expressions being lost when designing workflows in Visual Studio 2012

    When designing workflows in Visual Studio 2012, we are consistently running into a situation whereby clicking on the property value input box of an activity property, results in any existing value being cleared out and a message appearing which says "C:\
    ..... \obj\x86\Debug\TemporaryGeneratedFile_E7 .... D3.cs  This file has been modified outside of the source editor. Do you want to reload it?".
    Regardless of whether we choose Yes or No at this point, the property value has been erased and we cannot recover it. It happens more often than not.
    We've also noticed that selecting the ellipses button within the activity property value input box results in a blank input box - even if a c# expression is clearly visible within the property window.
    We have installed the cumulative update for workflow manager 1.0 and are using Visual Studio 2012 with TFS 2012.

    I have also noticed the same issue. Though sometimes you find the property box empty, if you close property window and open it again, it shows the value. There's few irritating issues in Visual studio 2012 workflow designer.
    About changing the file outside editor message, I've noticed if I open the workflow xaml file in xml editor inside visual studio with 'open with', then I get started the message.

  • Crystal Report  not listed Add New Item for Visual Studio 2010

    I just finished installing cryestal report for visual studio 2010.
    During the installation a visual studio error dialog popped up "Operation cannot be completed. Access Denied", the crystal report installation continued and was informed that the installation was successful.
    But on opening my visual studio project to add new item,  crystal report item is not listed there.
    Is there anything that needs to be done to get it listed in the Add New Item dialog for visual studio?

    I wonder what file you ran to install CRVS2010? Was it the MSI as opposed to the actual install file?
    The link to the correct install is here:
    http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/cr4vs2010/CRforVS_13_0_2.exe
    Is that the file you ran to install CRVS2010? E.g. as opposed to:

  • Visual studio 2012 the name "initializeControl" does not exist in the namespace in visual WebPart

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to create a visual webpart in SharePoint 2013 using Visual Studio 2012 and I am seeing that the file ascx.g.cs
    is missing and i have this error in file ascx.cs : the name "initializeControl" does not exist in the namespace.
    And like i said i use VS2012 Ultimate
    Can anyone Help me please!!!
    thanks.

    In most scenarios this is caused by some error in code preventing Visual Studio from generating the designer file. You could try to undo the latest changes and see whether the item is being generated or not. Additionally you could try checking if the custom
    tool is still associated with the Visual Web Part SPI in the Properties Window.

  • Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008 - dbf

    Hello,
    I use both Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 on same PC. I can not work with dbf files (format foxpro2x, dbase IV) in VS 2005 and VS 2008.
    Q1. Work Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008 with database files - dbf (version foxpro2x, dbaseIV)? I get error -
    Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer
    Failed to load database information
    or with dbf files work only Full version of Crystal Reports?
    Q2. How re-install Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008. In setup Add/Remove features not exist Crystal Reports check box. I only Repair/reinstall all Visual Studio but after reinstall same error
    Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer
    Failed to load database information
    3. When I can open sample project with Crystal Reports which use Crystal Reports (dbf file) this error is displayed:
    Crystal Report Viever
    Failed to load database information
    Details: The database DLL "crdb_p2bxbse.dlll" could not be loaded.
    4. I reinstal Crystal Report in Visual Studio 2005 - same error
    5. I apply hotfix Crystal Reports for .NET 2005 - SP 1 - same error
    Thank You
    Ludek

    Hi Ludek,
    1-For dbase file to work you need have permission on database files for IIS as well as user accessing the database.
    2-For re-install you need to insert the CD of visual studio setup then do custom install and then try to choose crystal reports for re-installing
    3-The old viewer might cause the problem. In this case can you try connecting to a blank dbase file.
    and for such issues we have a special forum [here|SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio;
    Thanks,
