Send data to asp w/out opening new page

I'm a Director developer learning Flash. So much is the same,
so much is different! Anyway, I have a SWF in a web page that uses
an XMLConnection component to get XML from ASP. I use the
XMLConnection as the dataProvider for a two Trees. I have a button
that lets users associate elements from each tree, and the
requisite data is sent to another ASP page via getURL() so it can
be stored in a database. All this works fine, but I don't want a
new page to open, as it does with the "_blank" getURL() window
argument, and I don't want the current page to change to the ASP
results(nothing) as it does with "_top", "_parent", "_self" or no
argument. I've tried using the send() method of a LoadVars object,
but have the same problem with it. I'm thinking of an in-elegant
workaround by setting the URL property of another XMLConnetion to
the ASP page I need to call and then calling trigger(). The
XMLConnetion component will end up not getting any data back from
the ASP page but the page should still do the SQL command and
update the database I think. Is there another function or object
I’m unaware of that’ll let me do this in a more proper
way? Thanx in advance for your suggestions.

LoadVars.send() was opening a new window? That's strange.
I've had problems with LoadVars.send() and know there used to be
bugs with it, so I've always used LoadVars. sendAndLoad, and just
ignore the return. You have to specify a return LoadVars object(or
it won't always work) but you don't have to anything with it, of
course.

  • BSP code to open new page in new window after button click

    Hi expert,
    I have a requirement to write a BSP code to open new page in new window after button click. I have done the same for opening in same window but not for opening in new window.
    Can you please help me out with the code in which the page opens in new window and the menubar & Addressbar is displayed in hide mode.

    Hi,
    To add more with Anubhav...
                              onClientClick = "javascript:window.open( 'pop.htm' ) "
    You can create a pop.htm page, and call the same in another page using the above code.
    Refer standard BSP examples, SBSPEXT_HTMLB, SBSPEXT_PHTMLB, SBSPEXT_XHTMLB. You can run the default.htm pages and see what way you want to design your BSP.
    Thanks,
    Sreekanth

  • When ever I leave a site a drop down box appears " Are you sure you want to send form again?" " To re-open this page Safari must resend a form, this may sesult in duplicate purchases, comments, or other actions". It does it twice every time? *** is this?

    When ever I leave a internet site an Apple drop down box appears that says,
    " Are you sure you want to send form again?", " To Re-open this page Safari must resend a form. "This action might result in duplicate purchases, comments, or other actions".
    The box has two options,... "Send", or " Don't send",...
    I always hit the don't send button.
    It always drops down twice now when it used to only drop down once.

    If anyone has a way of stopping Safari from doing this I'd appreciate the "how to".
    I am on a website that has phpbb installed and when I do a search for new posts it shows them to me.
    When I click on a post that I wish to read it shows me that post but if I hit back the server is set up to not allow multiple searches within a short time and the page returns "you cannot submit another search in such a short time".
    If I understand what you're describing, that's a function of the phpbb forum, not something Safari is doing or can change.
    A suggestion: Instead of just clicking on the posts you want to read, I would Command-click to open them in new tabs. Your page of search results will remain open in the first tab, so when you're finished reading the posts, you can close their tabs and return to your list of search results.

  • Why does Firefox get hung up, when opening new pages? I've tried disabling plugins and extensions to no avail.

    Initially, when I open Firefox everything opens very quickly. However, after several minutes it gets hung up when opening new pages. I have close the browser and reopen it to start over. But each time it does the same thing. Works well at first then poops out. The trouble started yesterday. Before then, I never had any problems.
    I've tried disabling all the plugins and extensions, but it doesn't make any difference.

  • Won't open new page when I click bookmark, instead changes pages EVEN THO PREFERENCES SET TO OPEN NEW PAGES

    Firefox keeps on changing pages, even yanking minimized pages back onto the screen and changing them, even though I have Firefox preferences set to always open new pages to accommodate links on a page or bookmarks.
    I don't want Firefox to tamper with any pages, period. If I have a pages minimized, no way should Firefox be yanking that page up back onto the screen because it's "too lazy" to open up a new page to accommodate a bookmark or link clicked on.
    It's extremely aggravating to click a link on a page, get a new page then, when I click the page to close it I find no page underneath, indicating that Firefox had changed the original page rather than open up a new page automatically to accommodate the link, etc.
    What's the point of me in Firefox preferences setting it up for Firefox to open up new pages automatically when afterwards it doesn't?

    Perhaps try the add-on Tab Mix Plus. It has a feature that you can force every link to open in a new tab if you like:
    * http://tmp.garyr.net/help/#Links (description of options - see "Force to open in new tab")
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/ (install page)
    I don't know whether it has any effect on bookmarks. You can open those in a new window by holding Shift or in a new tab by holding Ctrl when clicking.

  • Firefox not opening new pages in new tabs

    Just updated to FF 5.0 on OS 10.6.6. Got my pref set to open new pages/bookmarks in a new tab, but it just loads them into the current window.
    I disabled all of my extensions (Download helper, web dev tools, Firebug, TinyURL generator, Yahoo mail notifier) and no dice.
    Arg! What happened?
    I appreciate any suggestions.

    If you left-click a link then that link is always opened in a the current tab.<br />
    You need to middle-click a link or use command+Left-click to open the link in a new tab.<br />
    The setting in Firefox > Preferences > Tabs only makes it possible to divert links that specify a target window to open in a new tab instead.
    You can look at these extensions:
    *Open Bookmarks in New Tab: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-bookmarks-in-new-tab/
    *Open Link in New Tab: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-link-in-new-tab/

  • Taking forever to open new pages, if at all

    I've used Firefox for years, and it was always THE best browser. However, the last couple of versions have shared a problem, and it's driven me away from Firefox. First of all, regardless of settings, Firefox insists on opening the last page that was displayed, rather than the Google News page that I've told it open...the preference page *shows* the correct Google News page, but, Firefox continues to go back to whatever was last opened. This is annoying, but, not a game-breaker.
    What is, however, is that Firefox has become incredibly slow in opening *any* page, if it opens the page at all. When I attempt to go to a web-page, it appears that it's trying to open that page, but, nothing happens. I get the "loading page", and the url shows up, but, that's it. Sometimes, after several minutes, the page will slowly load; most often, Firefox simply sits there, with no error messages, no "Firefox is not responding" or anything else. I have the latest version of Firefox, along with the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Chrome and Opera; all three of *those* browsers open new pages instantly and go to the proper homepage, by the way.
    I have completely uninstalled Firefox several times, and deleted every trace of it I could find on my computer, to no avail. I would *love* coming back to Firefox, as I still consider it the best browser, but, with the way it's working, that's not an option.
    I have tried every single suggested "fix" in Mozilla support pages, and none have done a bit of good. Any other suggestions?

    On the slowness issue, could you try these two diagnostic steps:
    (1) Run Firefox in its Safe Mode.
    Firefox Safe Mode is a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
    ''If Firefox is not running:'' Hold down the Shift key while launching Firefox.
    ''If Firefox is running:'' Either --
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    -- then OK the action.
    In both scenarios, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Refresh).
    Any difference?
    (2) Disable the Flash plugin
    Since Flash is used so pervasively on the web in the background or for menus, it can be difficult to disentangle Flash issues from other issues. So... here's one way.
    Open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Plugins. Then on the right find "Shockwave Flash" and set the permission selector to "Never Activate".
    Notice any difference?

  • How to send data to asp from applet

    Hello friends
    I have developed an applet that generates some data and i would like to send this data across to my database with the help of an asp
    in general i dont want to send this data across to my server by using a servlet instead i would like to send to an asp file using get say is it possible?

    You can use URL class to generate the URL object which points to the asp file. In the constructor of the URL you have to provide the URL of the asp file.
    Now use openConnection() method in the URL object to get URLConnection object.
    Now you can call getInputStream() and getOutputStream() method to get InputStram and OutputStream from the remote location recpectively.
    Then you can communicate with the remote location.
    The only drawback is that the ASP should be on the same server as that of the applet.

  • Opening new page to a Specific frame

    I am still learning Action Script but I have a problem with
    writing the full script for combing navigate to new URL and
    gotoAndPlay. More specifically what I want to do is use a button
    which when clicked will open a new page and then start playing my
    Flash movie at a certain frame on the Timeline. I have used buttons
    to navigate to a new URL and used the gotoAndPlay ( ) ; command to
    play a certain frame, both have been successful but when I combine
    the two I run into trouble. What happens is the new page loads
    correctly and goes to the specific frame but then opens the browser
    in a new window with the movie playing from the beginning. The
    correct sequence within the correct Webpage is playing but only if
    I close the current page, in other words what I am trying to
    achieve is running but in the background.
    I have attached some of the code I have tried if that helps.
    Many Thanks.

    How extensive are the corresponding text changes on the HTML
    page? How many HTML pages are there? The reason I am asking is that
    if HTML content is not big - your best bet may be to load all the
    HTML content at once and hide/unhide parts of it based on the
    commands that come from Flash.
    But if you are sticking to your guns:
    Your use case, as you described it, is:
    1. user clicks a button on a column
    2. the column clicked moves across the movie
    3. the movie starts to play a different section
    4. the text on the web page changes to match the new movie
    sequence.
    There is a problem here - No 4 requires browser reloading. I
    believe user experience will not be all that good because of the
    visual break (new html page loading) after all the animation
    sequence after the click occurs. Perhaps a better experience can
    be:
    click --> load appropriate page --> perform animation
    sequence.
    As for the variables that you add to the request,
    conceptually it is not different from appending url variables to
    the url string:
    You can do it this way:
    var url:String =
    "www.domain.com/mypage.html?myVariable1=something&myVariable2=somethingElse";
    Or you can do it this way:
    ar url:String = "www.domain.com/mypage.html";
    var variables:URLVariables = new URLVariables();
    variables.myVariable1 = "something";
    variables.myVariable2 = "somethingElse";
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
    request.data = variables;
    I hope you see the similarity. The result is the same - Flash
    sends request with the variables.
    You may perceive the second way as more cumbersome but there
    are several advantages of doing it this way. One of the most
    important is that Flash automatically makes variables values url
    formatted which is critical when you send strings with special
    characters. In addition, when you send many variables - it is much
    more manageable than keeping track of the variable and making
    assignments in one-line url string.
    How you deal with it further depends on how good you are with
    HTML and JavaScript OR server side processing.
    Say you need to start your Flash movie from a certain frame
    (say No 50). You may want to:
    1. Load HTML page with a url that contains a frame number:
    variables.startframe = 50;
    2. You need to read this variable with JavaScript and write
    an appropriate embed tag. There are several ways to do that. Read
    about FlashVars. It could be (in the embed tag):
    src="myMovie.swf?startframe=50" where 50 comes from browser
    location string.
    3. Inside Flash you will utilize LoaderInfo.parameters method
    to extract the value of the variable startframe.
    4. Write code that will perform and animation based on this
    variable/parameter.
    I guess a question is "How good are you at HTML and
    JavaScript?"

  • Link in Column Header to open new page

    I have a tabular form based on a table and I want one of the column headers to be a link to open up a new page. How can I do this?

    The simplest thing would be to put some text outside the href tag in your column heading first and then create the link next to it:
    Text 1 < a href="your_url" target="_blank">Text 2< /a >
    Ensure you have ticked the "Sort" box next to the column in the report attributes for that column, and then you should find that if a user clicks on Text 2 they get the link opening in a new window, but if they click on Text 1 it will sort the column. If you wanted to be extra fancy, you could make Text 1 a small image file (i.e. an icon) so that clicking on the icon would sort the column but clicking on the text link would open the new window. Try out some combinations and see what you think.
    BEWARE: The "Text 1" non-hyperlink must come first - if you try reversing the heading like this:
    < a href="your_url" target="_blank">Text 2< /a > Text 1
    ...it won't work! And as previous posters have said, remove the spaces between the < and > signs.

  • Touching gmail icon opens new page EVERY time!  GRRRR

    I noticed this change about 3 or 4 weeks ago. when opening gmail from the gmail icon on the phone it would always locate the existing open page under safari and simply refresh that page.
    Now, it likes to open a brand new page each time I want to check gmail email. This results in numerous pages of the gmail inbox open all the time and sometimes hitting the limit (dont recall what that limit is)
    How can I get it back to the original behavior of refreshing the existing gmail email page that I always have open??
    This may have changed with the recent interface change of the mobile gmail page which occurred a week or so ago. I have to say the page looks better, but takes three times as long to load. One, it loads a new page, two it continues to refresh the inbox view after the overall progress meter for the entire page completes. (two refresh icons)
    I used to be able to check gmail from iphone in a matter of seconds. Now I must wait at least 45 seconds to a minute on a 3g connection.
    Last, how frickin' hard would it be to have the gmail icon display a red number in the top right hand corner of the gmail square icon, notifying me that there is a new email? I always check gmail to see if I have incoming emails--if I could simply look at the icon as I do the regular mail icon that would save a HELLo of a lot of time. Many blackberry phones show the number of unread email in the icon itself. I recognize its an entirely different phone/interface, but, the same concept should be available on such a great phone if its available on a crapped out phone like a blackberry.
    Thanks for listening! Hopefully someone else has noticed this.

    As for number of emails (badge), this is well documented that no app can run in the background (yet) thus no app can check mail to see if you have mail to update any number. Only some of the prebuilt apps can.
    Just curious, why don't you just setup gMail in the email app then you can just use it for checking email and be notified of new emails.
