"Sender Name is Invalid" (can't send email from POP account) iPhone 2.1

I updated from V2.0.2 to V2.1 today. I also swapped out my original iPhone EDGE for a new iPhone EDGE due to unrelated problems with the speaker.
Upon testing things after restoring from backup to the new phone I discovered that I could no longer SEND email from my POP account. I could receive email just fine on that account. Sending and receiving email on my MobilMe account also worked, as did sending and receiving email via the POP account while on the Mac computer I use to sync with this iPhone.
After digging into this with AppleCare we discovered that somehow the Port Address for the Outgoing Mail Server for that POP account had been changed from 25 to 587 on the iPhone.
Changing it back to 25 fixed my problem.
We don't know whether the problem was due to the 2.1 upgrade or due to something in the restore process after swapping the phones.
If you get the error message "Sender Name is Invalid" while trying to send email from a POP account on your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select the line for your POP account.
Now scroll down to the Outgoing Mail Server entry which should show "SMTP" and the name of the outgoing mail server for that POP account. Select that line. This will display a list of servers with your POP account server showing at the top as the Primary Server. Select that line.
In the panel that displays, check the Server Port. If it is something odd like 587, that may be your problem. Select the line and you can edit it to something more normal like 25. Touch the "SMTP" button at the top left of the number entry screen to accept that new value.
We discovered that after correcting that value on the iPhone it STAYS corrected even after doing a new Sync with iTunes, or after MobileMe syncs.

Depending on the mail service you are using, Port 25 or Port 587 are usually acceptable for outgoing
SMTP mail. Many cafes will block the customary port 25 to prevent spammers from using their
wireless access.

Also be sure for each mail account to turn ON the secondary AT&T server shown at the bottom
of the SMTP server list for each account -- it will make your transition from wireless to Edge
to 3G networks much more reliable.

    The SMTP server you are using with Wi-Fi would be the outgoing server of your internet service provider... this is likely why that's working.
    SMTP servers specific to a ISP would not work on the 3G network. You would probably need another SMTP server. One from your cell provider?

  • Z10 Can Receive E-mails from POP Account But Cannot Send/Reply

    I am getting seriously frustrated with the inability to send e-mail from this Z10 (bought on 3/28) through my POP account!
    I have been able to set up and successfully send through a personal Gmail account but not my "work" POP account.  Everything I have read in forums and discussed with my IP and Verizon Wireless points to a bug in the BB10 software.  In BB7, even a POP account could be set up very simply and reliably.  That was the beauty of BB - simple and reliable e-mail.
    I am getting nowhere trying to find a fix or workaround.  I reeeeeally wanted to believe that BB was back and that this would be a good phone for me, a BB fan (my third BB btw), but am just a day or two away from giving up and returning the thing.  What good is a BlackBerry if you can't send e-mails????  Please help!

    I have a similar problem. I have three email accounts and two work perfectly (a hosted server and a comcast). However, my Optonline email will not send out attachments or HTML when hitting Reply or Forward. The receiver sees the basic text response and the following (below). Optonline uses port 587 and i think POP, no SSL Optonline, BB and ATT are all looking at it, but no solution yet.

    From your iPhone, printing email would be from Apple Airprint.  With your email open, touch the action button and select Print.  You might have to select the printer, but it should print fine at that point.
    To send email to print by using ePrint, you would forward the email to the printer's ePrint email address.  Have you registered the printer on www.eprintcenter.com?

    Option 1:
    Your MSN account might be deleted but the eprintcenter wont be deleted along with it.
    You should be still able to login to eprintcenter account using the old msn id and the same old password for eprintcenter account which you used regularly.
    If you have forgot the password, i dont know how can you recover it. 
    If you get a chance to login then you can remove the printer from the old account and then claim it in your new account created usign hotmail ID.
    If you are not worried about changing your printers email ID, here is option 2.
    One more option is to de register the printer and register it again to cloud to get a new email address which can be used to claim the printer in your new account and then customize your email ID there. But be aware that you might not be able to set the same customised email ID which you have used in your old account.

  • IMail duplicating emails from POP accounts?  Did I do something wrong?

    I have 3 external POP accounts that I use for work. They all use this format: mail.companyname.com for both POP and SMTP. If someone sends me a message at one of the accounts, I get the message at all 3 inboxes. I'm trying to figure out if something I've done is causing the system to populate the messages in each account or if it's server side. The issue is, is that I told my company about it and no one else is having this problem... so they don't know what to say.
    I have a new Macbook Pro and have duplicated the problem with both iMail and Entourage.
    It's not sporadic, so I didn't think it was a fluke... it's every single time. If one of the accounts gets a message, all the accounts get the same one.
    It's almost like there's nothing "unique" about the account or something and because I have three accounts, it's like having three identical accounts that are just doing what they're supposed to do... thing is, is that the domain names are different... it's like: mail.company1.com and mail.company2.com
    Like I said, I was able to duplicate it and test it over and over... any thoughts?
    Oh, and I've got two gmail accounts that work perfectly, so I don't know what to think.

    The send button sends the link to their friends in the address field with a message.
    They recieve a message in the inbox.
    There's no post on a page.
    If they want that, then they should share the link themselves.
    Perhaps it's best to study what facebook has to offer and how it works instead of guessing what it is supposed to do and be disappointed.

  • Cannot receive email from pop account on first generation iPad

    I have an independent email/internet service so selected other for my email.  I followed the instructions from the internet service provide via telephone to set up the pop account.  The representatvie indicated that the settings were correct but I get a message indicating a problem the pop a account connection.  The internet is otherwise working fine and I can get email on my iphone and computers.  IOs is up to date according to software update.  Can't quite cut the mustard on this problem.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    While in mail, if you click Window then Connection Doctor, do any of the connections have a red dot next to them? The message should tell you what's wrong and if you click on it, it should take you to where you can fix it.

    I have OCS10g installed on RHEL_AS4. Currently I got problem to receive and send emails both inbound and outbound.
    When I send e-mail by either Oracle Web Access Client or Oracle Mail. It went smooth through the sending page. Unfortunately I can not get the e-mails neither from inbound or outbound domains, except [email protected]. Rogers is my current ISP and I am using the TZO dynamicIP service for the OCS server.
    The configuration for smtp_inbound_server are as following. Has anyone known the solution of my problem?

    When I check the logfile, I found the error messages like this :

  • Can't move emails from one account to another, some accts greyed out.

    I am using the iphone 4s and ios 6    I have two gmail accounts and one outlook exchange accout through work.  I used to be able to move messages from 1st gmail to the second or even to the outlook exchange acct just fine.  Now depending on which acct I am starting in, some of the other accts are greyed out and I can't click on them.   What has happened and how can I fix this?  I think this may have been in another thread but I didn't see anything specific or any fixes.

    I have similar problem here which problem began this morning. When attempting to move an image file to a folder (something I've done a kazillion times) an error message pops up:
    The item "*.jpeg" could not be moved because "Raw Images" cannot be modified.
    No amount of changing file permissions makes any difference. Redoing the image with PhotoShop doesn't help. Tried to move an image file I created years ago and get same message. Also changed permissions on destination folder - no effect.
    I can however move the same recalcitrant file to a backup HD or a memory stick without problem. Can also move same file into iPhoto with no problem.
    Ran Applejack utility - no difference.
    Is this a virus or Trojan Horse of some kind??? Any help would be appreciated.

  • 10.4.4 Not able to recieve email from POP accounts

    I recently upgraded to 10.4.4 and I can't recieve mail on my two POP email accounts. I can get access to these two email accounts through the webbrowser, but not through the Mail app. I have checked with the ISP and everything is fine on their end.
    It was working fine for several days of normal usage, but not now.
    Any suggestions?

    It sounds like the account is Offline. An account will stay offline, even if Mail is quit and relaunched. In the Menubar of the Mail window, click on Mailbox, and then choose Online Status -- check to see if you are offered Take Online, or Take Offline. If the former, click to Take online.
    The gray Icon is consistent with being Offline.
    It could have gone Offline as a result of a temporary password problem, or other access failure.
