Sendmail problem following Solaris 8 upgrade

Having upgraded to Solaris 8 a while ago I now notice that the email system no longer works and hasn't done so since the upgrade. The relevant message I receive in /var/adm/messages is as follows;

"Solaris 8, Update 7" is the Operating Environment distribution from February 2002.
It is otherwise reffered to as "Solaris 8 HW 2/02"
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Software/Solaris_Ref/So laris_8_2-02/index.html
You must <u>install</u> the distribution, you cannot patch your way to get there.
Your error message is telling you that you are not running a supported OS, for the Sun Java AS that you hope to run.
If you have access to a computer with a CD burner drive, you can download the two disk images and create your own set of media.
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Software/
Again, you will need to install that OS.
Build your computer all over again.

I have tried to upgrade a grape imac to OSX before I knew about the firmware issue, now the imac chimes on boot up but shuts down within seconds. I have tried most the keyboard options and removed the memory. Has anyone had a imac live after this problem and if so what was the treatment.

  • Lost all photos and other problems followed after upgrade to iphoto 6

All of my photos disappeared while creating a calendar in iphoto 6. I was finally able to find them in the trash can???? After loading them back into my library the photos have shrunk. I shoot with an 8 megapixel camera, and now I can't enlarge at all. How can I recreate my original library. Very frustrated with latest release.
    Any suggestions?
    Bill

The new structure organizes photos into Originals and Modified folders. There is a third folder called Data that contains thumbnails created for the photos (smaller pictures used for better performance). These three are essential for iPhoto 6 to work.
Each folder contains a folder for each year (a year folder is created if you have even one photo from that year, e.g. a photo from 4/3/2004 will create a folder called "2004" and any other photos from that year will then be placed within it.
Every import creates a serially numbered Roll folder within the year folder. So if you import photos including IMG_234.jpg from 4/3/2004, for example, the location of IMG_234.jpg will be:
    iPhoto Library/Originals/2004/Roll 1/IMG_234.jpg
And Roll 1 will have other photos imported in the same session. If you modify the photo within iPhoto (enhance, retouch, etc), the modified copy will exist in:
    iPhoto Library/Modified/2004/Roll 1/IMG_234.jpg
The Data folder will contain a thumbnail for the image in the same path as the Originals:
    iPhoto Library/Data/2004/Roll 1/IMG_234.jpg
So inside the iPhoto Library folder, you will see some files and those three folders with their sub-structure folders. Other things within the top level of the iPhoto Library folder, are leftovers from the previous structure - such as a folder called "2004" or "2005" that ISN'T inside Originals, Data, or Modified folders.
PhillyPhan's advice is sage. Don't mess with the insides of the iPhoto Library. However, I did verify on my own system after I upgraded, that year folders at the top level of the iPhoto Library are from previous versions of iPhoto. So you could move those, and those only, to a separate folder on your HD. I moved those off to a DVD-ROM and haven't seen problems since.
Remember: Don't touch any files, and don't touch anything within Data, Originals, and Modified folders.

  • Mail problem following auto upgrade to 10.6.7 OS

I have upgraded my IMAC to 10.6.7 and am now unable to open my mail box, the old app 4.4 says incompatible with this version of the OS and when I go into applications and try and use 4.5 it looks like it isnt properly set up, instead of the normal postage stamp icon it has a ruler, pencil and set square. when I click on it it opens the top banner line on the screen saying mail is the active app but not the mail box and just hangs and refuses to close unless I force exit. I have completely reloaded and reinstalled the OS to no avail...help please?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
If you have both Mail 4.4 and 4.5 on your Mac in the same partition, then something very strange happened during that update. I'd do the following:
    - Reboot into "safe mode" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455) to do the equivalent of a Disk Utility "repair disk" operation.
    - Use Disk Utility to repair permissions on your boot volume.
    - Download and install the OS X 10.6.7 "combo" updater: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361
If all that's done, see what state your Mac is in.

  • Connection Problems following Upgrade at Exchange

I have been having problems since 1st November.
I had received an e-mail advising that “we’re rolling out our faster broadband and we’ll be upgrading our network in your area on 01-Nov-11…For the first ten days or so after your upgrade, your broadband might slow down or even stop now and again. That's normal and your speed will soon settle down”
That night when I tried to use BT broadband after approx 90 seconds – connection was lost and router re-synced a number of times each hour.
Over next 10 days this did not improve. Contacted technical call centre and after running a line check, I was told that there were ‘anomalies’ on the line. Next day the call centre rang back and said upgrade work was ongoing and I would receive an e-mail when upgrade had finished and things should improve 10 days after the e-mail.
On 25 November I received an e-mail advising “This is to let you know that we've now upgraded your line and you should now have an improved, more consistent broadband connection, and maybe a speed increase.”
Again I saw no improvement in service. Connection was lost after 90 seconds and then a number of times each hour. I also noticed that the connection was lost if a phone call was received.
I spent next 2 weeks talking with call centre, again advised of ‘anomalies on line’ but eventually e-mailed BT Care and fault was logged on 31.12.11.
Fault number:VOL051-53388****** – fault is still shown as being Open.
On 5 January a BT engineer called. Spent a couple of hours testing connection, checking filters etc and told me that bandwidth was very narrow and this was probably the reason for connection dropping. He felt the upgrade at the exchange had caused this. Said the upgrade had been from ADSL to ADSL2. My BT exchange is Cregagh.
I have never had issues in past and due to distance from exchange, I was told to expect speed of between 2-4 mb. I have accelerator plate fitted and problems only began following the upgrade
Could the upgrade at the exchange be causing the connection to drop?
Can anything be done at the exchange to improve the connection? Or is something else causing the problems which are ongoing?
Speed has improved since engineers visit. Although enginner tested filters, could this be the problem?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

the upgrade to adsl2 brings a more aggressive sytem on any noise on your line and what was a good connection on adslmax may not necessarily be a good connection on adsl2 - but can with some effort.  as you are using the accelerator you must have an NTE5 master and other extension sockets so have you tried connecting direct to the test socket?
have you removed the bellwire on terminal 3 on all sockets - I know the accelerator helps with this but removal is 100% effective.
have you tried the quiet line test   dial 17070 option 2  should hear nothing and best with corded phone   if cordless dull hum is normal

  • Problems trying to upgrade from Solaris 10 update 4 to update 8

    Hello,
I am having problems trying to upgrade a system from update 4 to update 8. I have broken all the mirrors and everything is now setup off of one disk, yet I do not get the upgrade option when I boot from the CDROM. Anybody have any ideas?
It is a pretty basic system and I do not understand why it will not let me upgrade.
    Thanks for your help,
    Gary

If you boot your system from the CD-Rom, you can test its upgradability by performing the following steps:
create a file named for example /tmp/pf_profile, which contains:
    install_type  upgrade
root_device   /dev/dsk/<your root slice>The run the pfinstall program on it:
    /usr/sbin/install.d/pfinstall -D /tmp/pf_profile
.. with a bit of luck that should validate your installation and report any potential problems which might cause this.

  • HP Pavilion x2 11-h003sa: app functionality problems following Windows 8.1 upgrade

I recently bought an HP Pavilion x2 11-h003sa 2 in 1 laptop/tablet.  This came with Windows 8, and I decided to accept the free upgrade to Windows 8.1. Since doing this, several apps, including purchased apps, are not working correctly when they worked fine on Windows 8.  Please note I have applied all available Windows updates, app updates and I have ensured they are compatible with our firewall.  Where possible I have uninstalled then reinstalled the apps. The problem is as follows:
The following apps are affected: Angry Birds Star Wars, Star Wars Assault Team and (the pre installed) Fingertaps Instruments.  When these apps are activated, the screen goes blank.  The app only reappears when the Charms Bar is swiped from the right of the screen.  If I then attempt to touch the screen to use the app, the screen will immediately go blank.  I have to activate the charms bar in order to close the app completely to return to the start menu  The apps are, consequently, useless.  The pre-installed Monopoly app is even worse, as activating this results in a blank screen and only closing the app will return to to the start menu.  I would like to emphasise that all these apps worked fine prior to upgrading to Windows 8.1. The retailer (PC World) has never encountered such an error before and suggested I try and resolve it online.
I have also noticed that occasionally, after period of use, the touchscreen and the Windows start button simply stop working, and I have to close the tablet down and restart in order to get this resolved.  I have not owned this computer long enough to comment if this had been a problem prior to upgrading tp Windows 8.
I look forward to any ideas or if anyone has encountered anything similar.  I am regretting upgrading to Windows 8.1, as the useability of an expensive and otherwise excellent piece of hardware has been compromised by this upgrade.

Hi Toastcartoons1. It sounds like it may be driver related. The update instructions indicated you should install the latest drivers before updating where possible.  Updating your HP Windows 8 PC to Windows 8.1
Maybe you can identify some opportunities, to update drivers that may be affecting the Apps you are having problems with. The most likely candidate is graphics.  Before the graphics driver, I would recommend trying the Chipset update first:
Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver
    Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver
After installing both and restarting, try to recreate the issue. If you can, then reininstall the problematic Apps, and try again.
If you want to go back to Windows 8, this is the procedure: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8)
I hope this helps. Let me know the results.

  • Is anyone else having problems running out of RAM following an upgrade to Mavericks and Server v3?

I recently upgraded to Mavericks on my iMac which was also running Server v2.  Following the upgrade to Mavericks I upgraded to Server v3 and have been suffering from constant errors where the computer complains that I have run out of RAM and suspends all applications until I restart the computer.  I cannot work out how to turn off or delete the Server and therefore cannot isolate the problem to OS X or Server.
Is anybody else experiencing the problem?  I am quite happy to delete the server running on the iMac as I only installed for experimental purposes and only really use it as a caching server at the moment.
    Any help gratefully received.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Metainit/striping problem on Solaris 9

We are trying to deploy the Apple XServe RAIDS to customers running Solaris 9. The issue is that Solaris 9 will not recognize a device/LUN that is > 2TB. (No problem with Solaris 10) In trying to solve this problem, we sliced a 7 disk (4.09 TB) RAID into 3 slices. This presents three 1.36TB disks to the Solaris system. Basically, we have 6 disks being presented across both controllers to Solaris. They are direct connected from the XServe to a dual port QLogic HBA. The problem comes in when you try to create a stripe/concatenation across the logical devices being presented. (The disks are being presented on C4 and C5)
Results from a format AFTER I split both 7 disk RAID5s into 3 slices.

In doing some reaearch, it seems the problem is due to a problem with the disk duplication process, disk device IDs stored on the disks are not unique. I was curious if this is the problem that Apple presents the split disks with the SAME diskid? Has anybody else successfully created stripes (due to a LUN size limit) across the disk successfully on a Solaris system?

I contacted Sun and here is an explination from them. I also noticed when I queried the Xserver RAIDS, there were no serial numbers.
Solaris 9 can support a 16Tb filesystem, but there is a scsi limitation on the device of 2Tb. So you are stuck with striping together several smaller devices if you want a single filesystem above 2Tb.
The problem you are having when metainit reports an overlap comes from the way Solaris Volume Manager identifies devices. The portion of the scsi inquiry that is returned is always unique when Sun firmware is involved, but in your case is not unique.
You may be able to make use of the appended infodoc to avoid this problem. I see no evidence of our having tested this with your particular scenario, but it has been successful in similar cases.
You might also inquire of whoever supports your storage device whether a mode is supported whereby the device's inquiry strings can be made unique.
Here is the steps he wanted me to take and the results. I still can not get the Xserve RAIDS to generate a unique device id:
    Step 1
Determine the vendor and product strings. You can run these commands:
    # netstat -k | grep -i vendor
    # netstat -k | grep -i product

Itunes will not open without re-booting pc following recent "upgrade". How can this be fixed?

I do the download for the new version, it goes smooth, and then when I try to open it up, it pops up in my Task Manager for a moment and then disappears. No error messages, just disappears.
hmmmm. can you check something for me? (this might give us a heads up on the nature of the itunes problem.)
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • Upgrade to iPhoto 6.0 problem - fails to upgrade/import existing photos

I have just upgraded my PowerBook G4 with OS X Tiger 10.4.3 and also purchased and upgraded to iLife 06 immediately after that. I already had a few thousand photos on my mac in my previous version of iPhoto. On upgrading I have tried repeatedly to launch the new iPhoto 6.0 without success. A message pops up saying "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto". When I click "Upgrade" the mac is busy for over 30 minutes each time. At the end of that process it displays the following error message and then quits iPhoto (I have never actually got iPhoto 6.0 to open) - the error message is "The path of the item that failed is “/Users/markhudson/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Albums/[album name]"”. I have probably 25 different albums from my previous iPhoto version which used to work fine!
In trying to solve the problem I have tried deleting the 'problem' album by dragging it to the trash icon, but each time I retry thereafter it is just another album which becomes the problem. I have also made sure on the iPhoto application folder permissions section that the entity I log in to my mac (which is also the administrator) has read and write privileges. I have two other entities set up to use the same mac. It is a standalone mac with no network.
I was really looking forward to all the great new features which I read about on iPhoto 6.0 and am really disappointed that it is not working following what should be a simple upgrade process.
Reading the other postings on this discussion forum there do seem to be numerous problems with this upgrading/importing part of iPhoto 6.0. I was unable to find anything in the other postings/answers to address my specific problem as described above and would be extremely grateful for help and advice with this problem. I just want it to work again.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Powerbook G4 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Mark:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you still have a copy of your V5 iPhoto Library folder? If so you might try the following.
1 - Download and run BatChmod on the V4 iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. Then try launching iPhoto with the Option key depressed and select that new V5 library folder to open. See if that will get you over the "bad" albums.
Did you have any unique characters in the album names, i.e. umlauts, etc.
One a different note: there's a way to share the photos so that all of the users can have their own library, do their own edits and only have one set of original files. That is to use iPhoto in it's "alias" mode which only imports alias files for each photo into the library and leaves the original files untouched. It provides more flexibility for all users to edit photos, create slideshow and books, etc. independently of the other users. On a single Mac you would put the source files in folders inside the Shared folder. Then each user creates an alias library and imports the photos from Shared folder. Any new photos should be added to a new folder in the Shared folder so that users will know which are new. If that sounds like it might work for you look at these Tutorials. #1 will assist you to recover the keywords from your current library prior to converting over to an alias based library. Good luck.

  • Solaris upgrade with Veritas Volume Manager

I have to upgrade Solaris from 7 to 8 on a server which has Veritas Volume Manager. OK, I already found the necessary information to make this upgrade, but I have not found any answers on my problem.
It is quite possible that after VVM was installed, some of the filesystems like /, /opt, /usr or /var were increased or that additional filesystems were added on the rootdisk. This will prevent the upgrade_start to run correctly. One way to overcome this problem is to boot the machine in single-user mode, create all the root filesystems as standard ufs filesystems on a free disk with the same size as the VVM filesystems and then use ufsdump to copy all data over. When that is done, install a bootblock on the new disk and boot the machine from this disk. Then, start the Solaris upgrade. The problem with this is that when there is no free disk available, then I clearly have a problem.
Does anyone have experience with this or has a better plan ?
Should I completely de-install VVM or is it enough to convert all rootfilesystems to ufs filesystems ?
Please reply to me individually at [email protected]
    Thanks,
    Bruno

There are more things that you need to do.
Read veritas install guide -- it has a pretty good section of what needs to be done.

  • DataSource problems after BW upgrade

    DataSource problems after BW upgrade
    Upgrade from
    SAP NetWeaver 2004s: SAP_BW 700 0012 SAPKW70012
    to
    SAP EHP 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0: SAP_BW 701 0007 SAPKW70107
    BW system: PI_BASIS 7.01 SP 6
    ECC/source system: PI_BASIS 2005_1_700 SP 11
Problem exists throughout, both with generic and standard DataSources.
    Here is one specific example:
    Generic DataSource ZXXXXXXXX
InfoPackage "ZXXXXXXXX(ZXXXXXXXX)" does not run. Error:
    DataSource ZXXXXXXXX(SOURCESYS) must be activated
    Message no. RSDS179
    Then followed these steps:
    1. Replicate Metadata from source system
    2. Report RSDS_DATASOURCE_ACTIVATE_ALL from SE38 for source system SOURCESYS and DataSource ZXXXXXXXX
    Errors returned:
Inconsistent user object ZXXXXXXXX SOURCESYS for PSA /BIC/B000XXXX
    Error saving DataSource ZXXXXXXXX SOURCESYS
DataSource ZXXXXXXXX (SOURCESYS) could not be activated
When I try to choose "Manage" from the context menu for the DataSource, I see an error:
Invalid DataStore object name /BIC/B000XXXX: Reason: No valid entry in table RSTS
    Message no. RSM1294
The following notes have not helped:

    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Just to help the folks out here.
    In my case,
Inspite of going through several valid NOTES & program, my issue didnt resolve (you reply was pretty accurate - but dint help me :-)).
I have resolved the issue by adjusting the PSA table for the same.
    Procedure:
Take the psa name  --> go to table rstsods --> find the ODSNAME_TECH name for the relevant psa  --> se38 t.code --> enter ODSNAME_TECH and click on 'adjust & activate database table' (make sure you have selected 'save data' radio button.
Just in case anyone who come across this problem, can do the above steps.
    Regards,
    Dubbu.

  • Mail - importing 'previous recipients' information following OS upgrade

    Hi,
I've encountered a problem following my recent upgrade to Mountain Lion.
I previously ran Snow Leopard and over time my Mail app had built up a long list of everyone that I'd ever sent an e-mail to through its Previous Recipients function. I didn't get on board with adding these contacts to my Address Book early enough so by the time I realised that would be a good idea I felt there were far too many for the job to be worthwhile. It wouldn't have been a straightforward 'add all' job since some of the contact info was no doubt incomplete or undesireable.
Now that I don't have Mail auto-filling the recipient field I've realised I don't actually know any of my regular contact's e-mail addresses. This is a problem...
I'm wondering if in Snow Leopard, Mail's previous recipients were stored in a file somewhere and if it would be possible to simply copy that file to the appropriate directory in Mountain Lion to solve my problem. I understand that the list will have some contacts that I'm not interested in but between that and having none at all there isn't really a choice.
    So, to summarise:
Recent upgrader from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (Macbook being my only piece of Apple gear, also yet to adopt iCloud)
Mail user, reliant on 'previous recipients' auto-fill feature in 'send to' field (no contacts have been added to address book)
Seeking to copy previous recipients file from Snow Leopard back-up to appropriate Mountain Lion directory
Is this possible? Here's hoping someone can help.
    Cheers
Edit: I should probably mention that this was a clean install of Mountain Lion rather than an upgrade.
