SendRedirect and controlling the Application

Question

I have an MVC application which consists of a controller servlet and
a number of JSPs.
The controlling servlet uses a sendRedirect to direct control to a
further place - this place being an ORACLE reports server which makes a call to a report and displays it as PDF - when it does this it takes
over the whole window and hence when I come out of the report I have to close down the window and hence the JSP that caused the original
sendRedirect to be made.
What I would like to happen is the following:
1.) Initiating JSP displays records to be reported on
2.) User selects the row to be reported (by clicking a check box) on -
this record is then sent back to the controlling servlet for the
sendRedirect to be made in order to initiate the report.
3.) Report runs and produces the output.
4.) User closes down the report and control is then passed back to
the initiating JSP ready for the user to select the next record to
run the report for.
Whilst I can do the first 3 I cannot figure out how to do step 4.)
Any help much appreciated.

The immediately obvious solution would be to generate
the report in a new window, thus when the user closes
the reports, the initial JSP page is still active and
the user may select a new report to run.
Another idea... make the page that's generating the
report a framed page, leaving you an frame with the
option to close the reports window and return back to
the originating JSP (similar to how microsoft handles
navigating to/from external sites from Hotmail). When
the user clicks Close or Return, or whatever, the JSP
can then be loaded again.Thanks for this. How do I open a new window from a Servlet - I thought
that command was specific to JavaScript.
Do you mean forward the control/information to a JSP from which
I would do the redirect.
