Can a user be a developer and an admin user in the same workspace?

We have just upgraded one of our environments from APEX 3.2 to Apex 4.1.
In our existing apex applications version 3.2 we have the senior developer users set up with both user is an administrator and user is a developer set to yes.
When I try to set up the same in Version 4.1 I only seem to be able to set the user up with either developer or admin and not both as the user is a developer radio button is greyed out when user is and adminstator is selected.
Is it not possible in 4.1 to be an administrator and a developer. Does this mean that one person may have to have 2 logins if they are performing an adminstrator and developer role in Apex 4.1?

Recently i've been given an idea for my M.Sc Comp. Science, final year project...
It's an application that would have two windows, one is a sort of drawing board window and the other a chat screen...
It is to help developers communicating over the internet about a project or code...
The scenario is:
" Two developers are over the internet and let us say bob requires help from tom(senior developer)... Now lets say bob has a tool on his desktop, be it jbuilder or vc++ or something else. My application is supposed to get what's on screen (specifically what's visible on the tool e.g., the code, the class listing, the error/exception window.) and show it in it's drawing board section,
So that bob can show all this stuff to tom who could point out what's wrong by editing in his drawing board as all this stuff would be visible there too. Further this is supposed to work in real time i.e., as soon as bob makes any changes they are visible in tom's application drawing board and tom can edit those contents and the drawing board is to be updated at both ends..."
First of all i hope that i was able to give you some idea of what's happening... i would try to clarify any thing not understood...
What i'm asking is that is this possible? is it possible & feasable in java? and if it's possible would it be feasable on a 33.6k line?

The product you described there is in production now. It is called NetMeeting by Microsoft. It wasn't developed in Java, but a Java version is not only feasable, but some of the Java chat utilities have many/all of those features.

Data in read-only form disappearing on action

Hi all,
I've been troubleshooting this issue for a few days now and haven't found anybody reporting similar problems. I have a user profile page fragment displayed in a region. The profile to be displayed is selected from a list of users on another page fragment within the same task flow. Selecting the user works fine; the correct data is displayed when the profile page first loads.
The problem is that any time an event happens on the page, the data completely disappears. Originally, I had the data displayed in an accordion panel (one show detail item for name/status/email addresses, another for physical addresses, and another for phone numbers), and the data would disappear as soon as I tried to disclose a different show detail item. I thought it might have been an issue specifically with the disclosure event, so I recreated the page without any show detail elements. This time it's still displaying all the correct data, but as soon as I click a 'next' or 'previous' operation to cycle through the currently displayed address/email/phone entry, the data disappears again.
For reference/in case it matters: The user profile view object is connected to the address, email, and phone ones via view links. Has anybody seen this before, or know what might be causing it?

Hello again,
I was in the middle of building out a test case this morning when our senior developer fixed the problem. The way that I had the page configured, there was an Execute with Params call on page load (done through an executable on the page bindings). We're pretty sure the problem was that the button was triggering a partial page refresh and calling the Execute with Params again; effectively advancing the iterator as it should, but then querying fresh data again. It sounds like he instead put a chunk of code in a backing bean to query the data only if the ID bindings had changed.

How to configure multiple dev environment in single IP

HI,
I have a WLS running on a Windows NT machine. I want to configure multiple partition/environment
in that single WLS so that each user will have their own partition/environment to
play around. Once they are happy with their EJBs then we shall move them to a testing
environment. Is that possible in WLS??. Can anyone please guide me to a good documentation
about this one.

looks like you are specifying http protocol in
sky.framework.ejb.SkySessionBean.getInitialContext method.
Change it to t3 or, if the JNDI lookup is in the same JVM, don't specify
PROVIDER_URL. If you have to use http tunneling due to any reason , you have to
enable HTTP Tunneling in server to which initial context is created. It is
disabled by default in 60. You can do so via console. Please refer to
documentation , let me know if you need additional help.

NT isn't a multiuser environment. I will assume that
you mean some
Win32 box sitting in a room where people can copy their
classes/EJBs and
test their stuff. If this is the case, the setup is easy.
Create a directory and startup script for every developer.
Have a
global properties file in the same directory as the scripts
so that
common settings are, well, common. Tell each user to
modify the various
parts of the properties files in their directories to
deploy EJBs and
register servlets, etc etc.
In each startup script, you will have to specify the server
directory
and the binding port for each person. Pick a port (something
easy to
remember and high, like 30000, 30001, etc etc) for each
person. Why?
Well, when they connect to the app server, they'll know
they're hitting
only their server. Also, TCP/IP won't let more than one
JVM bind to the
same port, so if you want simultaneous instances (> 4
you better have
one kick ass Win32 box) you have to do this.

Office 2013 -- Why be so radically different in the UI?

I've noticed something rather nasty about Office 2013. For some reason that I cannot correlate to any action on my part the Outlook UI (as an example) will suddenly start showing garbage and artifacts in the ribbon and the tree on the left, as well as trashing
or hiding parts of messages in previews.
At first I was chalking it up to a laptop that was a couple of years old and, maybe, it was having some graphics issues (even though no other apps were suffering). However, now that I've gotten a new laptop, I am seeing the same issues. I noticed a flag in
the options titled "disable hardware acceleration" and I checked that to "on". No luck. Still getting garbage now and then which hides information from me. Hiding or trashing information is kind of a "no-no" when it happens
within an app that is trying to sell itself as "enterprise class."
At any rate, I am not hoping for any actual response to this in terms of real help. Instead, my intention is to get one - just one - senior developer at MS to ask themselves "Why do we choose to deviate from the rest of planet earth in the way that we
choose to display things. It doesn't count as 'cutting edge' or 'innovation' because it often doesn't work right during some relatively basic operations. In those cases we look extra bad because - unlike all the other developers on earth - we wrote the OS
too. We own the entire stack and therefore have literally no excuse. Maybe we should just be normal within the apps that form the bulk of our cash flow."

I appreciate that you are interested in root causing this. I am not. Let me restate my original intention: Microsoft -- Please stop doing exotic things with apps that enterprises depend on.
That being said, why would it matter if I have antivirus programs installed? If MicroSoft has done something with the UI layer of office that anti virus software can interfere with, then that's not something I want to know about. Rather, it would indicate to
me that I need to find an alternative solution from a software vendor which isn't doing something so strange with something so routine.

Datablock from a custom view

Hello,
I have created a datablock manually which has the source as view.
Added all the items which are to be displayed.
when i run the form, the block shows me a message that Query caused no records to retrieve.( i have added execute query in the form too).
I selected the view from backend, it has 71 rows.
What properties should be set to ensure that the records are fetched.
Note: Using Oracle form builder 6i

Data source type is TABLE
Data source name is VIEW name
is this correct?

Can you please let me know where do i have to set the org context or the org id in detail?Well, as I recall, you only need this if your EBS is configured for multiple organizations. It has been a while since I've worked with the EBS, but when I did we were a multi-org setup. Typically, you don't have to set the org or context when you run your form from the Application as this is already set for you. However, if your Custom Form does not include all of the objects from the TEMPLATE.fmb, you will run into problems because your Form will not be properly configured for the EBS framework. If you didn't create your custom form using the TEMPLATE.fmb, I strongly recommend you open the TEMPLATE.fmb and do "Save As" and save the TEMPLATE.fmb as your new form and them copy and paste all of the objects from your Custom Form into the new Custom Form you created from the template.
If you started your Form from the TEMPLATE.fmb, then I recommend you talk to your Apps DBA or other senior developer on your project and confirm with them that you have included all of the required/necessary objects to support your EBS Custom Extensions.
Also, if you haven't done this already, I recommend you take a look at the Oracle Applications Documentation library. Select your EBS version and then scroll to the Standards section and review the following documents:

In WL6.1, I have an Ejb with secured methods. The (Swing) client application accesses the Ejb through rmi-iiop using the JDK1.3.1 Orb.
Unfortunately, it seems that the caller identity (which was supplied in the InitialContext lookup) is not propagated
to the server: any call to a secured method
fails with a CORBA NO_PERMISSION Exception.
Using the t3 protocol the program works fine, but that would require the 25Mb weblogic.jar on all clients, which is unattainable for us.
Any ideas how this situation can be corrected?

How do you get your foot in the door?

So I feel that I've done everything right so far. I've been using Java for over a year now. I got the SCJA cert and have an active secret clearance. I live in Jacksonville FL and the market is a little bit tough right now but seems like senior Java developer positions aren't being filled, since they've been getting reposted on job sites for over a month. There's a serious lack of Junior positions available, especially entry level ones. I've only been able to find 1 entry level position in the two months I've been looking for the job. I don't have a bachelor's degree but I am enrolled in school and working on it.
So my question comes down to this: If senior level positions aren't being filled, why is there a lack of junior level positions? Is there anything I can be doing to convince hiring managers that I know what I am doing even though I don't have any professional experience with Java yet? Any advice would be appreciated.
Some additional details: I had a professional write my resume. I have two staffing agencies working with me, one of them I have a history with and is the largest in the country.

The HR people get swamped with resumes from these sites so even if you do find a junior dev job your resume might not even be looked at. Getting a hold of an actual HR person on the phone can do wonders. Also, have you tried applying for Senior level jobs? As long as your resume clearly indicates your level of experience then there is nothing wrong with applying for a job that you don't think fits you. Many companies have different definitions for what 'senior' developer is. Also, many companies say they are looking for an experienced candidate in hopes of getting their ideal person, but in reality they will often settle for a bit less than they post. 7-8 months ago when I was applying for jobs I had applied for multiple jobs that required 2-3 years of experience and I was still in school getting my bachelors. I got a couple of calls back about those jobs for interviews and they clearly understood I was still in school. Anyway, I feel like I am rambling now.

Local Database Options for Windows Store Apps

I am looking to create an application that will allow for entry of data from a user and write it to a database file system locally within the application.
I am new to Windows Store type app development and are a senior developer for ERP systems for the enterprise which have rich databases and client apps that are built with a MVC type configuration. The app communicates with the database which is on the DB
server (Oracle, IBM DB2, or SQL Server) and writes to the file system.
For my startup applications I would like to have a simple CRUD type interface that writes to a DB that is part of the application and does not require a connection to a file server or DB server. Internally I would like something with a few tables,
etc.. that I can write to and then report from locally.
In the Windows 8x development world, what is the best method and technology to use for Store Apps for this scenario? What is the best approach?

What is the best way to migrate from Forms to ADF?

We are in a big quagmire. Our company has been into Oracle Forms development for over 15 years. We have applications developed in Forms 6i and 10g. We have about 5 products and these 5 products have about 25 to 30 different versions. i.e. we maintain about 30 different versions of our applications. Each version of the application has about 100 forms and 100 reports.
Now, since Forms has come to the End of life from 11g we want to move to ADF. We tried Forms to ADF migration tools but failed. So now we have decided to manually rewrite the applications in ADF.
Our Forms / PL/SQL developers, designers and analysts (total about 40) are all Oracle Forms people. They have no experience in Java.
What I want to know is:
(1.) What is the BEST way to achieve this?
(2.) Do we have to learn Java, JSF and ADF?? (i.e. All 3)?
(3.) Is it mandatory to learn JSF??
(4.) Assuming, comprehensive training can be given, how long will it take for Forms people to learn ADF?
(5.) What type of training will be required?? (Java, JSF, ADF, JDeveloper etc.)
(6.) How LONG will this take? i.e. to train all 40 and then get rewrite an application of 100+ forms and 100+ reports? (Ballpark is OK).
(7.) Any other technologies we should learn??

Obvoiusly the longer you have for training the better but I think the minimum would be
1) Java skills - I think to start off, 1 or two days reading something like Head First Java http://www.amazon.com/Head-First-Java-Kathy-Sierra/dp/0596009208
2) I'd then get "The Quick Start Guide to Fusion Development" http://www.amazon.com/Quick-Start-Oracle-Fusion-Development/dp/0071744282/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1343201618&sr=1-1&keywords=jdeveloper+quick (declaration: I'm the author so have a vested interest, but I still think its a good place to start. - this should be about 2-3 days to read and also to try things out.
3) In parallel I'd be watching these ADF Insider Basics http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/adfinsider-093342.html#a1 - a couple of hours
4) I'd then try this tutorial http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/jdev/obe11jdev/ps1/ria_application/developriaapplication_long.htm - 3 hours.
5) Optionally, if you are coming from a Forms background I would also read http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/jdeveloper/11gdemos/SummitADF/SummitADF_Redevelopment.pdf and watch http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/jdeveloper/11gdemos/Forms_Redevelopment_ADF/Forms_Redevelopment_ADF.html - which is about 2 hours of work.
I think this would be the absolute MINIMUM to at least be able to build some basic applications and to start feeling your way - everything else outlined in the "ADF COLLATERAL TOUR" http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/jdeveloper/11gdemos/ADFTour/ADFTour.html could be learned as you start building some proof of concept. However, I'd wouldn't suggest you try building a real application with only one weeks exposure (in the same way I wouldn't expect you to design a product database with only one week training). I would probably expect your developers to have at least the above training and then spend about a month or so (minimum) building proof of concepts (or testing themselves with the ADF Insider Essentials Tasks). Furthermore, I'd probably expect you to have at least on senior developer/architect, with much more experience who can be making decisions on things like reuse, partitioning, architecture etc.
Of course, this is all subjective but I hope it helps.

UTL_HTTP.request, operation timed out error

i am using utl_http package, its giving the following error:

JZ0T3: Read operation timed out

Hi! I'm trying to solve this problem for a while and actually I couldnt find the cause of the problem.
For some reason, deep inside the code of my application that error happends when I execute some inserts on the same Sybase table (they could be performed concurrently). I said "deep inside the code" since if I test a similar code, but outside the application (that is, just executing the inserts in a stand alone java main) the problem can't be reproduced.
The connection is obtained normally as follows:

I've just found a workarround to solve this problem: synchronizing the execution of the query. That seems to avoid concurrent insertion.
The funny thing is: when I extract the code from the application and execute it in a stand alone java main, even stressing with multiple threads executing batch inserts in a for clause, the problem NEVER happends.
Any tip is welcome since I actually don't know what to do. Thanks a lot, I hope anyone replies!!
