Sent mail delays or missing

I have seen the posts about sent mail using MobileMe. As indicated by some respondents, it seems to me that there is a problem here that has not been addressed and that it is a recent one. Although my settings have not changed at all, sent mail is either missing or very much delayed in showing up on my computer and this is a recent phenomenon. Can anyone point to an "official" response from Apple that indicates what is going on and what, if anything, we can do to fix the problem. Thanks.

I have a user that is experiencing this problem on a G5 Mac Tower. After migrating his data from a laptop, he stating that certain e-mails are not showing up in his sent mail. Recipients of said e-mails are receiving them, but this is a problem for him. I can suggest the workaround but it will add an extra step to move these e-mails to the sent mail folder. Can anyone help, please? Thanks in advance!

  • Sent Mail Missing

MacBook Pro Laptop and .mac subscriber for years. Opened mail this evening and all sent mail messages are missing. I noticed mail was caching sent mail in Activity Window so I let it run. 1784 messages and attachments apparently were cached. I opened and closed mail and still no sent mail.
I looked at MobileMe and all my sent mail is on the server. I'm hesitant to do a sync until I know why the messages are off my laptop.

I doubt the messages are gone; Mail has probably just lost it's mind and doesn't realize they're there. So let's try rebuilding your Mail index.
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Mail and remove the Envelope Index file to your Desktop.
    3. Restart Mail and allow it to import your existing mailboxes; when it's done your index will have been rebuilt. Check to see whether or not your messages are back; if so, you can delete the old Envelope Index file on your Desktop.

  • Mail 6.6 missing plug-in for PDF view, can't save to RTFD file

    Hi,
I see there are some similar queries about this, but no definitive answer. I can't seem to save to RTFD file format, and my sent mail indicates a missing plug-in for where the PDF attachment should be.
I did mess around with the Mail Library a bit to transfer across my mail database from an older machine. Something which did not go smoothly at all.
Is there a way I can fix this?
    Thanks.

  • Is there any way to fix long (45-90 seconds) delay in copying messages to sent mail folder?

Thunderbird is synched with IMAP to a GMail account. The only time long delays occur is copying messages to the sent mail folder. Is memory or storage within Thunderbird an issue?

    ''Onno Ekker [[#answer-615836|said]]''
    <blockquote>
Folders in Thunderbird are actually files on your file system. When you have lots of messages in a folder, the file gets bigger. Probably each time you send a message your virus scanner kicks in and also verifies the big file.
You can move older emails from your sent folder to Gmail's All Mail folder, that probably improves performance.
But you can also configure Thunderbird not to save outgoing messages to the Sent folder. Gmail will do that itself, so when Thunderbird does it too, it will actually happen twice. Go to Tools -> Account Settings -> <Gmail account> -> Copies & Folders and uncheck Place a copy in...

  • "sent" mail doesn't show up, missing reply emails, sudden "deleted" emails

I have been hving some problems with Mail recently, three issues have become major Pains in the ***:
    1. Just about every 3 or 4 emails that I send from my .mac account seem to go through but a copy or receipt of them don't show up in the "sent" mail folder/area.
    2. If I reply to an email in my in box, it will show the little "you replied to this email arrow icon" but when I click on the arrow, it will say that the message "has been deleted or missing"
    3. Lastly every 3-4 emails - As I am writing the note a window will pop up and say that the "email cannot be saved" but allows me to click "OK" and then continue typing the note and will sent it just fine.
Is there a master reset on Mail or can I reinstall just the Mail program ? ( i really don't want to do that) I ran disk utility and my drive seems to be fine, the permissions are good.
    any help would be great.
    thanks.

I'm having the same problem, although it is not with a .mac account, it is with IMAP accounts, which to the best of my knowledge is the server type used by .mac.
The weird part about all of this is that I use several e-mail accounts on my computer... one of them is a POP3, the rest are IMAP. Historically every message I've sent, regardless of the account, has been stored in the Sent folder, now only mail being sent from the POP3 account is being stored.
After unchecking the feature to store sent mail on the server for one of the IMAP accounts and sending a test message from IMAP address to POP3 address everything seemed to be working fine.... but I don't like that I had to do that. One of the reasons I use IMAP is so that I don't have to worry about what e-mails are stored where, because I use multiple computers.... but once I start telling my portable Macbook to no longer store outgoing messages on the server.... that could become a problem for me.
I've tried rebuilding the mailboxes several times to no avail. (Although I'm not entirely sure what rebuild does, I thought it'd be worth a shot)
And yes, my network card settings are just fine.
It might be worth noting that I've done a substantial amount of software updates over the past few days, and if I knew how to get you a list of those, I would.

  • Missing Sent Mail in Lion Mail

Since I upgraded to Lion a few days ago, I have not been able to view the text of recently sent messages. For replies, the reply icon shows up and a message pops up when the icon is clicked, but the body perpetually "loads" and nothing displays. This same behavior happens when I double-click a sent email - the body perpetually loads. Older sent messages load fine.
This morning I rebuilt my Sent mailbox to see if it would show my sent mail bodies. Now I am missing most of my sent mail. Oddly, a few recent sent mails show up fine.
I had thousands of sent emails from all my interaction with clients and such. I really need these back. I use an Earthlink POP account. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Update: I just replied to a new incoming email. I clicked the reply icon which brought up the message in a new window, but my reply body is perpetually loading. In went to view the message in my Sent mailbox. It is there, but I see no body preview in the list or the preview pane. I get only the spinning gear and "Loading..."

  • Viewing Sent mail has no content, attachments missing in Lion

Lion and Mail 5.0 . Some Windows computers are unable to view email body content. Also attachements don't appear eventhough they have uploaded and show the correct file size in the my sent mail folder.
Sometimes an attachment shows up as a thumbnail only with no attachement file.  PostBox works fine with these problem Windows computers.. body of text displays properly and attachments show up properly.

Have you set Edit/Attachments/Window friendly in Mail?  There have been some reports that it doesn't work, but it is working for me.

  • Missing Sent Mail

Sent mail is not appearing in my local Mail client although it does appear on Mobile Me. Attempts to fix the problem include recreating my mail account, syncing account, reindexing my mail and reinstalling the Mail application. A sent mail folder exists locally but sent mail does not appear in the folder.
Are there any other suggestions for fixing the problem?

Based on your previous post you know you're way around the 'Mail' application, but if you can't find out where to go just post back. Now I don't know much about MobileMe and if his has any effect on this at all as well, just FYI.
Go into your mail preferences and accounts and find out what is set as your outgoing mail server. Also go to rules from preferences and see if anything is listed there.

  • Mail missing from "Sent Mail" folder.

I searched my sent mail files for an email I sent out about 3 months ago. To my amazement, everything in the file before the date of Sept. 23 opened up with a line that went something like: "In order to view this document, you must first go online and download it." When I checked in the menu, it showed that Mail was online. I tried rebuilding my mail and every sent letter before 9/23 was deleted. When I go to my backup files, Mail tells me that the files are not Mail files. I'm perplexed, and haven't a clue as to what to do. This is not the first time I have had lost mail problems. Is Mail full of major bugs? Should I go back to Entourage? I never had a problem when I used it, but hate using any Microsoft applications.

I have this same problem. My Sent Messages.mbox says it is 1.94 GB so I know the messages are there. So far, I have found no solutions. Hopefully someone out there has some info - please!

  • Gmail IMAP Sent  Mail folder missing in Mac Mail

I made a change in Mac Mail by using the Mailbox/Use this mailbox for Sent Mail menu item on the [Gmail] Sent Mail folder and the original
[Gmail] Sent Mail folder has vanished. It still appears in the Gmail web interface and is checked on to show up in IMAP, but it doesn't appear in Mac Mail. Sent messages to appear in the Mac Mail snet folder, which is fine but I want to [Gmail] Sent Mail folder back. I tried turning the "show in IMAP" setting in Gmail on and off and it works for other folders, but not for the "Sent Mail" folder. I also tried restoring an older copy of the com.apple.mail.plist file but that didn't work either. Any ideas how to get it back? Pop is turned off as well.

It seems this is the desired behavior in Mail, as I don't need the [Gmail] folders to appear since the mail is all in the Mac Mail folders.
Of course, this might all break again when I upgrade to Mavericks :-(

  • Sent mail missing from my Gmail account.

Yesterday I found several years of sent mail had gone from my gmail account on Mail and also in my web Gmail account.  Fortunately I have Time Capsule as a back up and so I was able to restore my sent mail.  That enabled me to explore when it happened.  My sent mail was there on morning of 18 november but gone by morning of 19 November.  Apple helpfully records the dates of updates and I ran the software up date for mavericks to fix bugs in Gmail on afternoon of 18 November.  I looked at my Gmail mail preferences in Mail and was surprised to find sent mail set to delete sent mail on quitting Mail.  That was not my setting ( I have not been into my Mail preferences for some weeks) and must have happened during the software update.  I typically shut down my MacBook Pro at night so after the update on 18 November and shut down near midnight, my sent mail was deleted.  So warning to check your Mail preferences for Gmail after running this update.  If anyone has an explanation for why the Gmail sent mail settings changed with the software update I would be interested.

    Hi APK25,
If your Sent messages aren't showing up where you expect them to, you may want to take a look at the following article:

  • Synched new iPhone but Sent Mail missing

    Hi everyone,
I just synched a new iPhone to my PC and I am using Gmail. It sends and receives email fine, but the Sent messages do not appear in my iPhone sent mail folder. I've confirmed the correct settings for Incoming and Outgoing mail, but there is no "Sent Mailbox" option under Mailbox Behaviors.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

Ok, I just reset my password and it works now!

  • Date Sent not showing in Sent Mail

After a certain date, using Mail application, the Date (sent) is not showing in the header along with To & From & Subject. Why?
I have tried to get it to show using view prefs. Doesn't work.
I have changed to using a network time server. Doesn't work.
I've tried moving it to another folder. Doesn't work.
I need the date to show so when I print, I have proof of date and time sent...
    Anyone?

Not sure about the time stamp problem, but the missing "Sent" mails problem is not uncommon. This problem is one that a lot of people have and in my opinion, I think it's a problem with Apple's mail application, nothing at the user's end.
Does this happen only when you include an attachment or does that matter? Also, does it only happen when your outgoing message is delayed a bit? Check your junk/spam folder to see if your sent messages went in there.
This doesn't fix anything, but you might change your e-mail settings so that all new mails are automatically sent Bcc to yourself.
Sometimes the "missing" sent mails are not going in the right folder. I'm sure you probably already know, but in the left-hand column in MAIL, under Mailboxes, there is a second "sent" folder way at the bottom, depending on your other e-mail accounts, such as Yahoo or Gmail). Many people have discovered their missing "sent" e-mails in those.
It is a big hassle, for sure, and has been officially reported. Users with complaints are being told that Apple's Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) systems block the connection from a user's e-mail client when it attempts to store outgoing e-mails, which contain attachments, to the users'  sent folder.
This is supposedly due to the Mac OS/Mac Mail sending non-standard or erroneous commands to the server, emulating the activity which would be generated by an attacker attempting to abuse an exploit in the IMAP server. I doubt you are doing anything wrong, so it's just a matter of waiting for them to FIX this annoying issue.

  • Question about Sent Mail folder contents

    Hi Everyone.
this question requires a fair amount of background -- I tried my usually very helpful users' group and didn't get any responses. Here's the story:
I upgraded my macbook pro to Leopard partly because I thought Time Machine would make me backup more regularly (it has). I have a few sporadic backups from prior to the upgrade, and then I backed up right before I upgraded. I had a disk error during my first attempt at an archive & install, found that the disk was wiped, thanked my lucky stars I backed up beforehand, ran disk utility on the disk, and then did an erase & install instead.
After the upgrade, I used the migration assistant to restore my user account from my backup. At some point after the fact, I noticed that my sent mail mailbox in mail.app for my primary email account was missing all my emails except for the period from 3/30/05 to 4/15/05 and from 1/07 to 4/07.
I thought I was hosed, but today I found I had another backup on a second disk, and that one has 10,614 emails in the sent mail folder (to be precise Sent Message (account name).mbox/Messages/). After importing, I have all of those sent emails restored in a folder in mail.app.
However, during this process, I went and checked my Sent Messages mailbox in my current Library folder for this user account. In that folder (Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Sent Messages (this account).mbox), all of the files (content_index, Incoming_Mail, IncomingTable_ofContents, mbox, and tableofcontents) show an incorrect(?) created / modified / Last opened date of 5/26/05. The Info.plist file has the correct dates, and the Messages folder does, too. Those same files are in the Sent Messages folder on both of my backups, and have the same date (5/26/05) listed.
I actually pulled all of the files listed above with the weird dates and removed them from the Sent Messages.mbox folder. That doesn't seem to matter to mail -- everything still seems to be working just fine.
So, my question is, are those files crucial, or are they cruft from multiple generations of OS updates and mail.app updates that are no longer needed? It seems like no new versions were automatically generated when I removed the old ones, and mail doesn't seem to be broken.
I've been using mail.app at least since 2004 and the emails in the sent mail folder trace back to a Pbook G4 that started with OS X 10.1 (maybe even 10.0 -- my memory isn't as good as it used to be) and was upgraded with each major release, then I migrated to the current MacBook Pro and upgraded it from Tiger to Leopard. So I've probably used the migration assistant (or archive & install) to help me move files (or did it manually) through one laptop changed and four OS upgrades.
Any ideas about this Sent Messages question or in general about how I might clean up my Mail folder are appreciated.
    Thanks!

I have both POP and IMAP email accounts.
The IMAP is easy. Until you delete it is visible on both phone and computer. Once you delete it is gone from both, although with providers like Google, you can still un-delete it. Google, among others, provides free IMAP email.
For POP, there is a setting in Entourage preferences, (maybe in mail.app, too) that will let you decide to automatically delete the mail from the server, manually delete the mail from the server, or automatically delete after a period of time. I set my pop account to automatically delete from the server after one month. You set up the iPhone the same way - to leave it on the server. This way, a message will download to both your computer and to the iPhone. If you are working at your computer, you can still manually delete the message from the server so that it does not go to your iPhone, since you have already handled it. But even if you never delete from the server, it will automatically delete in a month so that you do not go over your email limit (if any) for your ISP.
Also, with my POP account, I set up the phone to automatically send a copy to me of all outgoing messages. This way my computer has a copy of everything I send from the phone.
