Separate excel from xcelsius

Does anybody know how to separate an underlying excel page from the created dashboard on which it is based on? I would really appreciate specifics if possible. Thanks!!

Yes, thank you it does help. The problem I have is that the software does not allow me to save the dashboard with the imported excel page. I get a message: "Unable to save changes made to this model. Please make sure you have sufficient privilege to perform this operation and the XLF file is not locked by another process" Why do I get this message and how to solve it?
I can save the file with another name, but should be able to keep the original..Any idea why is this happening?

Removal of Excel from Xcelsius

Hi.
At present we have to use Excel as an intermediate layer to store data for mapping the Xcelsius components, What I would like to know is, is there any way or any plan in future from SAP to remove Excel as the intermediate layer, and directly map the components to objects or columns in Webi or Crystal report or whatever the source be? Is it even possible, i think so...what are your views?

You can see these functionalists in BI 4.0. Where one can directly map query data to the component. But still if one need further modification on the source data (without modifying the source data, things needed to carried out in some temporary location like Excel ).

So now one can use the same IDE to create Query as well as to connect data coming from that query to components.

Automatically create new Excel file from template using data from a selected row in a separate Excel file

I am fairly new to Macro and VBA in Excel. I am trying to reduce the amount of work involved in a task that is performed often in our office. Currently, the task involves using 2 separate Excel files. One file is a tracking sheet and the second is the document
that gets sent out to the client. The second document has all the same information that is inserted into the tracking sheet. What I would like to do is have the information that is in one row on the tracking sheet populate into a new excel file that is created
automatically from an existing template.
I have been able to make this partially work. What I have been able to achieve is have the cell that is selected in the tracking sheet (the description field) copy into the new file that is created from the template that is on our server.

What I need to do is get the rest of the information from that same row in the tracking sheet to copy to the new file as well. The other information includes the document number (one cell to the left of the selected cell), who it is from (one cell to the
right of the selected cell), and the date (two cells to the right of the selected cell). As stated, this information is all in the same row on the tracking sheet. Each piece of information needs to be copied to a certain cell in the new file and I do not want
the source formatting to be copied to the new file.
Ideally, I would like it to operate like so: select the first cell in the row (in this case would be the document number field). Then click a button to run the macro that will then copy the information from that row in the tracking sheet to specific cells
in the new file that is created from the template.
This process will save us from having to either manually copy and paste the information into the new file or re-type the same information that is already in the tracking sheet.
This is probably a simple thing to do but it would be great if anybody had some insight on this issue. Thanks in advance!

Try code like the following. You will have to change the target cells (D25, F1 and H4) to the ones you want, I just used some arbitrary cells as example.

Xcelsisus connections mappings get lost once we export excel from xlf file

Hi All,
I am creating a dashboard in xcelsius 2008. I have around 50 live office objects and hence 50 live office connections in the xlf file. When I exoprt the excel from the xlf file and when i re- import the excel all the old live office connections get lost. is there any way to maintain these live office connectons?

Which SP are you on. The problem could be with java web start. You may re-initialize java webstart from Administration option and clear the contents.

Passing variables from Xcelsius to MS Access query

Hi friends,
I have established a connection of Xcelsius with MS Access through ODBC DSN. After getting connected I am able to access the queries and database tables of MS Access but the constraint I am facing now is I am not able to find a way to send some variables from Xcelsius(Excel) back to MS Access queries. I wonder if its possible or not. Please guide.

On this topic, How do you string multiple selections together...ie key 1, 2, 4, 6?
I figured out how to implement range logic ">=" etc, but have yet figured out what format the cell needs to be in Xcelsius to pass successfully to Bex. A single value works fine ie 1 or 2 or 4 or 6, just can't seem to combine them

Exporting Issues from Xcelsius Present 2008

Hello,
I am having issues with exporting from Excelsius Present 2008. Version - 5.0.0.99 and Build 12,1,0,247
PDF - When I export to PDF, it creates a file but doesn't display it
Powerpoint - It does not export a ppt file to the destination folder
Word - It does not export a doc file to the destination folder
I have been unable to export anything from Xcelsius
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated,

Exporting to Excel from Aria People Search

Is it possible to export to Excel from Aria People Search.
I would like to output the Org Chart (built in) and the Tree (I created) to an Excel file.

Hi,
If you are using 10g, then OLE2 is supported. However, it will be executed in the App Server Machine.
If you want to do the operation in the Client machine (as how it was done in the Client / Server), you need to use Client_OLE (Which is part of WebUtil).

Hi,
As of now in Xcelsius/Dashboard Design there is no feature or functionality to insert/update/delete data from database.
Solution:
Create a Web service in let’s say C# or Java, which will perform insert/update/delete operation.
In Xcelsius add Web Service connection and user above web service.
Xcelsius Web Service connection provides option to pass input values to a Web Service (Input Pane) and get the result (Output values pane).
We can pass values to be written to the database as a input to Web Service via Web Service connection from Xcelsius and write data to the database.
Note:
Performing delete operation from Xcelsius Dashboard could be risky and may delete important data from database. I would not prefer giving delete option/functionality in Xcelsius dashboard.

Open Doc Function to pass parameters from Xcelsius to WEBI

When I run the flash in Internet Explorer then the drill through webi report opens without any error for the 1st time
but when I try to reopen the report again with new set of parameters , the browser gets hanged
Also when I run the flash in Firefox , I get error while opening the Webi Report for the 1st time but when I try to open the report again it works fine.
Please let me know if anyone has faced similar issue before.
I am Using Xcelsius 2008 SP3 and BO XI 3.1

If you place the URL un the browser directly does the report open and refresh ok? Can you try altering the parameters of the URL, also directly in the browser?
Something else to check would be if the prompts in the WebI report can be optional, store the last value etc, and I wouldn't recommend having a prompt which has a space in the name such as you have (Product%20Name). Keep the prompts as simple as possible, and make sure that the 'equal to' and 'in list' operators are properly reflected in the URL.

Create a new GarageBand "Movie" project, then import your movie into GarageBand, by dragging it from the "Movies" tab of the Media Browser into the Timeline. GarageBand will split the movie into a video channel and an audio channel. Delete the video/movie channel and use the "Share" menu to send the audio channel to iTunes (assuming you have iLife '11 GarageBand)

Issues on exporting the report to Excel from full client BO 5.1

Hi,
I am facing a problem in exporting the BO report from Business Objects 5.1 to excel file. I am aware that there is no direct way to export the BO report to Excel from Business Objects(File--> save as to .txt file and then copy its data to excel )
When the export the BO report to excel file,I received two errors one over other
error1: Numeric data overflow (3349)
When I click OK button, second error received is like this
error2:export failed (dma0005)
I tried all options to fix this and also I looked for an dialog box " export to external file format " in Business Objects inorder to copy the report data to COPY TO DDE option but I didn't find any aforementioned dialog box
Please provide me the solution to fix the issues

Are you telling me to isolate the object from the universe that is creating problems and then run the report ?
Also, I am unable to find the option from menu items in Full client BO 5.1 to open the dialog box with name " export to external file format ". Can you please tell me where I can find this?

#2170 error calling a webservice from Xcelsius having crossdomain.xml

Hello together,
we are facing a #2170 error indicating we don't have a proper policy file in place when executing a published Xcelsius flash in SAP BI application portal.
We created a WebService that is running an SAP BI System 7.01. The WebService is function module based and was generated following the wizzard. Afterwards we created a Xcelsius app that consumes data from this WebService (via data connection). The resulting flash from Xcelsius was pulished to SAP BI System (portal).
Since there are many entries in the SDN and the internet in general we finally also created an crossdomain.xml file on the BI system which can be accessed and is visible by using "https://<server>/crossdomain.xml".
Now the confusion begins: We exported the flash from Xcelsius to local desktop and executed the corresponding HTML-file. It's working and I can receive/see WebService data (after adjusting flash-security-settings). If we upload both exported files (html and swf) to the BI system (as MIME objects) and execute the html again we are also receiving WebServervice data. So far so good. But if we execute the link from the SAP BI Portal (Xcelsius menu > SAP > Start) we still get the error #2170 indicating we don't have a proper domain policy file in place. But for my understanding we do have. So currently I would assume the error message is somehow misleading.
During all the activities I found out that this error is also raised if the user has insufficient authorization. My user has SAP_ALL authorization for testing purpose.
In general I would say we are not that wrong with our Xcelsius/WebService if we are not coming from BI portal. So my questions are:
1.) Are there any authorization on portal side that might not fit and lead to this error? If insufficient authorizations produces such an error ...
2.) Did we miss any other stuff during our try/fail-operations?
