Sequence files documentation in TestStand 4.0.1

How can I generate sequence files documentaton in TestStand 4.0.1 for all sequences from particular workspace (tests suite) in automatic way? Is there any seqence already written or mayby TestStand 4.0.1 provides some extention of sequence files documentation tool known from TestStand 3.x

It's not trivial, but if you look at the ForEach.seq tool sequence (Components\NI\Tools\ForEach.seq) you can use that as an example of enumerating all .seq files under a particular directory and performing an operation on them. That tool opens and resaves all the sequence files under a particular directory. With some work it could be made to generate sequence file documentation instead. Also I think there's a sequence in ForEach.seq that you could call to get back an array of all sequence files' absolute paths under a particular directory which you could then loop on and call into the documentation sequence with.
Hope this helps,

  • Sequence File Documentation adding code module inputs/outputs

    Hi there,
    I would like to document my sequence file. I have used the TS tools| Sequence File Documentation which works fine but I would like to add more information like the code module input and outputs.
    I am using LabVIEW code modules.
    How can I access the VI Parameter table: parameter name, type, in/out and value and then add them to docgen_txt.seq ?
    Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance..

    Hi Marken
    In this thread there is an example how to create a LV-Module dyamically. Accessing the LV-Parametertable is a sub topic there.

  • Programatically select a step in a sequence in a sequence file loaded in TestStand sequence editor using C#

    Hi all,
    I have written C# code to load a sequence file dynamically in TestStand Sequence editor. The code is as follows...
    myEngine.PostUIMessage(mySequenceContext.Execution, mySequenceContext.Thread, UIMessageCodes.UIMsg_OpenWindows, 0, null, mySequenceFile, true );
    The code is working fine and I could view the Sequence file opened in TestStand Sequence editor.
    Now, I wish to select one sequence in the opened sequence file to get the details of  the sequence programatically. In other words, I want to simulate a mouse click to a sequence and view the steps associated with that sequence.
    Can anybody give some clues...
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Also I am getting error like "Index out of range. Source:  TSUISUPP.SelectedSteps   at NationalInstruments.TestStand.Interop.UI.Support.SelectedSteps.AddStep(Step val)". Error code: "-17500; Operation Failed." My code is like
    mySequenceFile = myEngine.GetSequenceFileEx(@"D:\dynamic loaded sequence.seq", 0, TypeConflictHandlerTypes.ConflictHandler_UseGlobalType);
    mySequence = mySequenceFile.GetSequenceByName("First");
    Step myStep = mySequence.GetStep(2, StepGroups.StepGroup_Main);
    SequenceContext mySequenceContext = mySequenceFile.NewEditContext();
    mySequenceContext .AsPropertyObject();
    myEngine.PostUIMessage(mySequenceContext .Execution, mySequenceContext .Thread, UIMessageCodes.UIMsg_OpenWindows, 0, null, mySequenceFile, true);
    ApplicationMgr applicationMgr = (ApplicationMgr)myEngine.GetInternalOption(InternalOptions.InternalOption_ApplicationManager);
    SequenceFileViewMgr sequenceFileViewMgr = (SequenceFileViewMgr)applicationMgr.GetSequenceFileViewMgr(mySequenceFile);
    sequenceFileViewMgr.SelectedSequences.Clear();
    sequenceFileViewMgr.SelectedSequences.AddSequence(mySequence);
    sequenceFileViewMgr.SelectedSteps.AddStep(myStep);
    I am sure that my Sequence selected in the Sequence file loaded has more than 2 steps. Please help me in solving this problem and that in the previous post.

  • Display a default subsequence when openning a sequence file in the TestStand editor

    Is there a way to set the default sequence displayed when openning up a sequence file?
    Seems that the steps for MainSequence are typically displayed first when openning an existing sequence.
    How do I set it to display another subsequence I created when I open the sequence file.
    Or if it is displaying a subsequence other than MainSequence, how do I set it back to display MainSequence by default when reopenning the file in TestStand.

    Jeff,
    Sequences are stored in sequence files in 0-N order.  The default sequence will be the 0th one.  To change the order in the sequence editor you can click on the Sequence bar above the sequences.  Keep clicking until there are no arrows on it.  This is the true order of sequences in the sequence file.  Drag the one you want visible to the top.
    See the image so you know what I'm talking about.

  • How can I run sequentially each SequenceCall that is present within a sequence file in NI teststand

    I have a sequence file which tests a number of DUT's. Each DUT has its own SequenceCall within the Sequence File.
    I have set up each SequenceCall to create a New Execution and run in Single Pass to create a separate report for each DUT.
    My problem is that when the Sequence File executes, it Calls all SequenceCall's and they begin to run in parallel, I want them to run in sequence. I tried using the PreCondition and Evaluate Precondition option of each SequenceCall to make sure the first/previous SequenceCall had completed but this did not work, the Sequence File still called each SequenCall at same time.

    Why are you spawning a new execution each time?
    Next to the Exeuction Options there is a button with a hammer and a wrench on it.  When you click on that you get the Sequence Call Advanced Settings.  Change the Wait for Execution to Complete: to Before executing next step.

  • How to convert Sequence file documentation from TXT or HTML to MS Word ?

    Hello, I would like to modify a DocSupport.prj which in default generate only TXT or HTML to support MS Wors *.DOC. I have already change the dialog (add *.doc filter..), that was simple. But the major problem is how to convert the output from doc.c to some *.doc file. I found somewhere here Word9 ActiveX  Instrument  for CVI, but I don't understand, how  the CVI gets informations about the steps etc.  from *.seq file for another use. The original code in doc.c is quite hard to understand it quickly. Thanks for help.

    Hi Pet007,
    You should be able to just change the file it saves to's extension to .doc. You'll notice there is a define for txt, you could either change this to doc or if you still want to be able to use txt, create a new define and use this. If you do this you'll need to also add a define above (as you see it defines an integer for each different format type and uses those throughout the program as well). That should give you a good starting point for modifying this code. Unfortunately it is quite extensive to actually accomplish this, or else I could give a step by step guide, but it is rather long. But you should be able to get it working from this. The reason this should work is because Microsoft Word (.doc) files understand plain text just like .txt files. However, if you want to add formatting (fonts, bold text, etc) you would need to use the ActiveX Instrument for CVI which just access the ActiveX server from Microsoft. For more information about ActiveX in CVI visit the following link.

    Currently, functionality for retrieving the Metadata Token for a class constructor or member is not fully provided in the TestStand .NET Adapter API. The DotNetModule.GetConstructorMetadataToken() and DotNetModule.GetMetadataToken() methods only return the correct Metadata Token when the member/constructor prototypes have already been loaded. Thus, in the case of your code, when you call DotNetModule.GetMetadataToken(), the method is returning -1 because the member prototype for the Step you are referring to has not yet been loaded.
    That means have to do a workaround for your stuff.

  • How do I generate documentation for a sequence file hierarchy?

    I am trying to generate documentation for all of the sequence files used in my test suite. Some of the tests are kinda complex with nesting to eight to ten levels with hundreds of sequence files. The sequence file documentation tool will only let you document the active sequence file and there doesn't appear to be any way to recursively search for the sequence files in LV or TS. Does anyone have a way to do this?

    Hi lars,
    For each sequencefile you will need to create a reference to it by use of the Engine.GetSequenceFile() method.
    Next create a new context by using the SequenceFile.CreateNewContext(), use the SequenceFileObj reference returned by the GetSequenceFile() method.
    Once you have the SeqenceContext reference, use this as the parameter to the second step which calls a dll in docgen.seq, (sorry can not remember what is called at the moment). The at the moment this parameter is ThisContext reference. Probably best to make a copy of this sequencefile (docgen.seq) and make the modification to the copy.
    On the second step, open up the specify module dialog and change the ThisContext to your new variable holding your new SequenceContext. Close the sepecify dialog.
    Some where in your cleanups you will need to set the New Sequence Context to Nothing and call the ReleaseSequenceFile() method passing it the sequencefile reference. Releasing the reference to the sequence file maybe a bit tricky because if the engine is still using the reference, then it will not be released.
    I have tried this and it did generate a document of a sequencefile not previously loaded. My only problem was releasing the sequencefile.
    I am not suggesting that this is a usable solution, because you wouldn't want the dialog window opening up for each sequence file. This maybe a starting point for you.

  • How can I include multiple limits in the sequence file documentation for custom step type?

    Hi,
    I have a custom Step Type that contains Measurements property under Results. Its type is Array of NI_LimitMeasurement.
    I would like to see the values in the sequence file documentation like NI_MultipleNumericLimitTest type.
    Is there any trick to do that?
    Thanks,
    Andras

    Hi Andras,
    I have made  a slight change to the sequencefile 'docgen_txt.seq'.
    In the Sequence 'Step Doc' is a section which handles MultipleNumericLimit step type. There is a precondition check on the step 'Add Multiple Numeric Limits' if the step is of type 'NI_MultipleNumericLimit'. As your step type is based on the MultipleNumeric Limit type, I have just removed this precondition and just relied on the existence of Parameters.Step.Result.Measurement. Equally you could add a new section in this sequence to handle your Custom Step Type which is only called when the precodition match your type name.
    Now when you run the DocGen tool it handles your custom step type.
    Find attached my modified sequencefile 'docgen_txt.seq'.
    Just copy the contents of '..\National Instruments\TestStand 3.5\Components\NI\Tools\DocGen' to the User folder. Then place the attached file in the User\Tools\DocGen overwritting the version that is in that folder.
    Then launch TestStand and try it out on your sequence file.
    If you are using the html version, then you will have to make the same change into Step Doc sequence of the docgen_html sequence file.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I find the path to a TestStand sequence file using LabVIEW

    My LabVIEW application launches a bunch of teststand sequences, provided it has the complete path to each of them. I want to make it more flexible by providing it just the name of the TestStand sequence so that it will go and find the path to the sequence by searching a directory structure. TestStand has a neat FindFile() function that can do this, but I need to do this from within LabVIEW. Is there a way to do it?

    There are a few ways to do this depending on how you are getting the sequence files.  If you are calling the GetSequenceFileEx method, you can just pass the GetSeqFile_FindFile (0x20) flag in the SequenceFileFlags property.  If you are using the ApplicationMgr.OpenSequenceFile method, this is automatically done for you.
    If you want to use the FindFile function in general, you can use the Engine.FindFile method.

  • Edit Items in TestStand Sequence File Combo Box?

    Hello All,
      I am creating a basic user interface VI Project, based off of the examples included with TestStand.  In the "Simple" example, there is a Open Seq File button, and an associated combo box to select the Sequence File to run.  For my application, I would like to limit the sequence file options from which the operator can choose (not allow the operator to browse the entire hard drive to find a sequence file).  Using basic Labview functions, I would have done this with a regular combo box, and use the "Edit Items" option to load file options into the drop-down menu.  However, the TestStand UI combo box does not allow this, presumably because it is an ActiveX control, and configuration is different from normal Labview functions.  Is it possible to pre-load the TestStand UI combo box with allowed sequence files?  Or, if there are other suggestions on how to accomplish the requirement, I am open to them as well.
    Thanks in advance,
    GSinMN

    One idea is to use the native LabVIEW controls.  Then hide the TestStand UI controls and update them from the events triggered by the native LabVIEW controls. I have had to do this before on UIs when the customer wanted a certain look and feel.
    So basically have the native LabVIEW combo box set like you want.  When the user makes a selection, in the event for that selection update the hidden TestStand Sequence File Combo Box witht he correct sequence file.
    Another option is to use events for the Sequence File Combo Box and just filter and force certain behavior.

  • Help:set up simple test sequence, operator selects particular test then teststand links to part of sequence file and performs test

    Hi,
    I am extremely new to TestStand, please see question below and offer advice.
    I want to set up a simple test sequence.
    I want a message to popup on screen that asks the operator which unit of 6(max 10) Units to test(i.e. there are say 6-10 box's to select from).
    Then the sequence goes to the particular part of the sequence and performs the test on which ever unit was selected.
    What is the best way to do this?
    Could i use message popups to do this?and if so what do i need to do link it to the correct part of the sequence file?
    Do message popups only allow 6 options to select from?
    Thanks,
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
       You can do using message popup method. You can ask the user which unit want to execute by inserting message in message expression in message popup step settings.Something like below
    "Enter unit number to execute
     1.  Unit1
     2.  Unit 2
     10. Unit 10"
    then check "Enable response text box" from options tab in step settings.When user enters unit number you can get the user entered value by inserting the below statement in post expression of message popup step settings
        Locals.String = Step.Result.Response
        Note : String is a local variable to be defined.
    Convert that string in to number and send that output to switch expression there by you can use a sequence call step to call sequence whichever to be executed. (I hope your each unit will be seperate sequence file)
    I hope these resolves your problem. If you don't understand let me know so that I can develop a small example and send it to.
    Cheers,
    krishna
