Sequence File Documentation adding code module inputs/outputs

Hi there,
I would like to document my sequence file. I have used the TS tools| Sequence File Documentation which works fine but I would like to add more information like the code module input and outputs.
I am using LabVIEW code modules.
How can I access the VI Parameter table: parameter name, type, in/out and value and then add them to docgen_txt.seq ?
Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance..
Marken

Hi Marken
In this thread there is an example how to create a LV-Module dyamically. Accessing the LV-Parametertable is a sub topic there.

  • Sequence files documentation in TestStand 4.0.1

    How can I generate sequence files documentaton in TestStand 4.0.1 for all sequences from particular workspace (tests suite) in automatic way? Is there any seqence already written or mayby TestStand 4.0.1 provides some extention of sequence files documentation tool known from TestStand 3.x

    It's not trivial, but if you look at the ForEach.seq tool sequence (Components\NI\Tools\ForEach.seq) you can use that as an example of enumerating all .seq files under a particular directory and performing an operation on them. That tool opens and resaves all the sequence files under a particular directory. With some work it could be made to generate sequence file documentation instead. Also I think there's a sequence in ForEach.seq that you could call to get back an array of all sequence files' absolute paths under a particular directory which you could then loop on and call into the documentation sequence with.

  • How to convert Sequence file documentation from TXT or HTML to MS Word ?

    Hello, I would like to modify a DocSupport.prj which in default generate only TXT or HTML to support MS Wors *.DOC. I have already change the dialog (add *.doc filter..), that was simple. But the major problem is how to convert the output from doc.c to some *.doc file. I found somewhere here Word9 ActiveX  Instrument  for CVI, but I don't understand, how  the CVI gets informations about the steps etc.  from *.seq file for another use. The original code in doc.c is quite hard to understand it quickly. Thanks for help.

    Hi Pet007,
    You should be able to just change the file it saves to's extension to .doc. You'll notice there is a define for txt, you could either change this to doc or if you still want to be able to use txt, create a new define and use this. If you do this you'll need to also add a define above (as you see it defines an integer for each different format type and uses those throughout the program as well). That should give you a good starting point for modifying this code. Unfortunately it is quite extensive to actually accomplish this, or else I could give a step by step guide, but it is rather long. But you should be able to get it working from this. The reason this should work is because Microsoft Word (.doc) files understand plain text just like .txt files. However, if you want to add formatting (fonts, bold text, etc) you would need to use the ActiveX Instrument for CVI which just access the ActiveX server from Microsoft. • How do I have a module work across sequence files?

    I have a "top level" sequence file that executes several sub-sequence files.  In the Setup tab for the top level sequence file, I have an Action that specifies a .NET module (a DLL written using C#), and it creates an object and calls a method on that object to initialize it with the SequenceContext.  This module allows us to log in to one of our web sites and click on links and submit forms.  So after that first Action, I have another Action that invokes a method on the module to go to the login page of our web site.  Then there's another Action that invokes a method on the module to fill in the username/password and login to the web site.
    Then in the sub-sequence files, I have Actions that invoke methods on the module to do various things within the web site.  However, this setup in TestStand does not work.  When I try to execute the top level sequence file, I get an error when it tries to execute the first Action in a sub-sequence file that specifies the module:
    Error: The object specified in the class reference is not a .NET object.
    Since you are not creating an object, this must be a .NET object. [Error Code: -17300, Value invalid or out of range.]
    It looks like in each sub-sequence file I need to start out with an Action that creates the object.  I cannot just have Actions that assume the object has already been created.  But then this means that in each sub-sequence file, I will need to have Actions that go to the login page and log in to our web site.  I would like to do that only in the top level sequence file.  Is this possible?

    Hi,
    What type of Object are you creating?  Is it a TestStand object?  Is the subsequence in a separate sequence file or in the same sequence file as the main sequence?  Also, are you calling the subsequence in a new thread, a new execution, or neither.
    These will help me figure out how to get this to work.  Basically, we need to find out how to pass a reference of the object or a handle from the object to the subsequence.
    Thanks,

  • How do I generate documentation for a sequence file hierarchy?

    I am trying to generate documentation for all of the sequence files used in my test suite. Some of the tests are kinda complex with nesting to eight to ten levels with hundreds of sequence files. The sequence file documentation tool will only let you document the active sequence file and there doesn't appear to be any way to recursively search for the sequence files in LV or TS. Does anyone have a way to do this?

    Hi lars,
    For each sequencefile you will need to create a reference to it by use of the Engine.GetSequenceFile() method.
    Next create a new context by using the SequenceFile.CreateNewContext(), use the SequenceFileObj reference returned by the GetSequenceFile() method.
    Once you have the SeqenceContext reference, use this as the parameter to the second step which calls a dll in docgen.seq, (sorry can not remember what is called at the moment). The at the moment this parameter is ThisContext reference. Probably best to make a copy of this sequencefile (docgen.seq) and make the modification to the copy.
    On the second step, open up the specify module dialog and change the ThisContext to your new variable holding your new SequenceContext. Close the sepecify dialog.
    Some where in your cleanups you will need to set the New Sequence Context to Nothing and call the ReleaseSequenceFile() method passing it the sequencefile reference. Releasing the reference to the sequence file maybe a bit tricky because if the engine is still using the reference, then it will not be released.
    I have tried this and it did generate a document of a sequencefile not previously loaded. My only problem was releasing the sequencefile.
    I am not suggesting that this is a usable solution, because you wouldn't want the dialog window opening up for each sequence file. This maybe a starting point for you.

  • Failed to execute default file manager (Input /Output Error) [SOLVED]

    I'm having an issue in XFCE where the default Terminal, Browser and File Manager launch correctly - but with this error:

    Tried downgrading glibc from 2.21-3 to 2.21-2 as this is the package which contains libpthread.so, and on my other arch workstations I don't have the issue, but to no avail, same error box pops up when using exo-open, and my IDEs are not starting.
    I'll try comparing installed packages versions on both workstations.

  • How do I save a running sequence file

    Part of my testing requires a large number of variables to be passed to and from the UUT within TestStand. I can store some of these variables in the station globals, but I'd like the option to store others in the sequence files at run time and save them to disk (save the sequence file) at the end of the test. I can create variables in the station globals and commit the globals to disk just fine (LabVIEW vi's using the TestStand API). However, I cannot figure out how to do the same thing with a sequence file. My code is able to create and populate the locals variables with no problem, but I cannot save the running sequence file to disk with the new locals (or file globals) intact (they disappear when the sequence ends.) The reason I want to save the sequence file is to avoid manually entering all these variables into each sequence file locals list.
    So, I think the questions are:
    How do I make the new locals or file globals a part of the running sequence file?
    How do I save the sequence file to disk before it stops running?
    I can increment the change count on the file. I have figured out two or three ways to save the file while it's running without errors (although I doubt it's actually doing anything.) I'm using the TestStand API in LabVIEW vi's to pull this off and cannot find the functions I'm looking for.
    Sorry if this is rambling, it's kind of hard to describe.

    Hi Lars,
    The reason that we can't save the local variables created during
    runtime is because TestStand creates a runtime copy of the variables
    when the sequence starts. After the sequence is finished executing,
    this copy is discarded. The reason behind this is that TestStand allows
    for a single sequence to have multiple executions at the same time, and
    each instance gets its own runtime copy of the local variables. If new
    locals could be saved to the actual sequence file in memory, it could
    cause major problems for other execution threads of that particular
    .seq file.
    You can use the API to add variables to the actual file using
    GetSequenceFileEx and incrementing the Change Count, or create a
    separate sequence that modifies another sequence file, but adding these
    locals to the sequence file from itself isn't possible.
    Hope this helps Lars,
    Have a good one.

  • How can I include multiple limits in the sequence file documentation for custom step type?

    Hi,
    I have a custom Step Type that contains Measurements property under Results. Its type is Array of NI_LimitMeasurement.
    I would like to see the values in the sequence file documentation like NI_MultipleNumericLimitTest type.
    Is there any trick to do that?
    Thanks,
    Andras

    Hi Andras,
    I have made  a slight change to the sequencefile 'docgen_txt.seq'.
    In the Sequence 'Step Doc' is a section which handles MultipleNumericLimit step type. There is a precondition check on the step 'Add Multiple Numeric Limits' if the step is of type 'NI_MultipleNumericLimit'. As your step type is based on the MultipleNumeric Limit type, I have just removed this precondition and just relied on the existence of Parameters.Step.Result.Measurement. Equally you could add a new section in this sequence to handle your Custom Step Type which is only called when the precodition match your type name.
    Now when you run the DocGen tool it handles your custom step type.
    Find attached my modified sequencefile 'docgen_txt.seq'.
    Just copy the contents of '..\National Instruments\TestStand 3.5\Components\NI\Tools\DocGen' to the User folder. Then place the attached file in the User\Tools\DocGen overwritting the version that is in that folder.
    Then launch TestStand and try it out on your sequence file.
    If you are using the html version, then you will have to make the same change into Step Doc sequence of the docgen_html sequence file.
    Hope this helps

  • How to apply Property Loader to all sequences in the Sequence File?

    HI,
    I'm following the help instructions for the Property Loader and it states....
    Use Current Sequence File—Selects the file where the step is located.
    Sequence—Specifies the name of the sequence into which to import variables and properties. The specified sequence must exist in the specified sequence file. Select the <ALL SEQUENCES> tag from the drop-down list to instruct TestStand to import variables and properties for all of the sequences in the specified sequence file. You must specify a valid sequence name for the step to work properly.
    In my specific sequence file I added the Callbacks:  SequenceFileLoad, SequenceFileUnload, PreUUT. In addition to that, my MainSequence is calling 2 subsequences.
    I put the propertyLoader step (setting few values of the SequenceFileGlobals) in the setup section of the SequenceFileLoad, checked the 'Use Current Sequence File' and selected ALL SEQUENCES tag in the 'Sequence' option.  I verified that it does what I wanted.  Then, is it entered the PreUUT subsequnce, the values returned to the "original" values.
    Is that a bug?
    If not, how do I use the PropertyLoader in a sequenceFile that include several subsequences as well as Callback sequences.
    Thanks
    Rafi

    Ooops, sorry about that...
    I forgot to mention....it is TS 3.5.
    As per your questions-- yes they all in the same sequence file.
         mySeqFile.seq
               SequenceFileLoad
               SdequnceFileUnload
               PreUUT
               Seq1
               Seq2
    AS I said....I put the property loader in the setup of the SequenceFileLoad,  I see that it works properly in that subsequence.  Then, after the SuequenceFileLoad is finished, I do Ctl+F5 for Test UUT's.  I put a breakpoint in the first step of the preUUT subsequence and check the context.  I notice that the variables in the FileGlobals to whom the property loader writes, have been changed back to the original values.
    I'll try to create a simple program to duplicate it but it may take me time as this test station is very busy.
    Thanks

  • Need a relative sequence (count of record) in an input file in ESB input fi

    I am using ESB to pick up text files and pass them to a stored procedure. I have multiple variable length records in the file. I pass each record to the
    output file adapter, along with the input filename. I would also like to get a relative record number for each record within the file. I use an xsd file
    to convert the input to XML. The entire file is at the root level, each record is an element. Is there a way to get a relative count of each element?
    Here is the xsd file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
    xmlns:nxsd="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/nxsd"
    targetNamespace="http://TargetNamespace.com/Filein"
    xmlns:tns="http://TargetNamespace.com/Filein"
    elementFormDefault="qualified"
    attributeFormDefault="unqualified" nxsd:encoding="ASCII" nxsd:stream="chars" nxsd:version="NXSD">
    <xsd:element name="Root-Element">
    <xsd:complexType>
    <xsd:sequence>
    <xsd:element name="C1" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="unbounded">
    <xsd:complexType>
    <xsd:sequence>
    <xsd:element name="C1" type="xsd:string" nxsd:style="terminated" nxsd:terminatedBy="${eol}" nxsd:quotedBy="&quot;">
    </xsd:element>
    </xsd:sequence>
    </xsd:complexType>
    </xsd:element>
    </xsd:sequence>
    </xsd:complexType>
    </xsd:element>
    </xsd:schema>
    <!--NXSDWIZ:J:\\UPLD5383.INM:-->
    <!--USE-HEADER:false:-->
    I need to map the relative record number to a field in the output.
    Is there a function similar to the get filename that would return this value to me?
    <xsl:value-of select='ehdr:getRequestHeader("/fhdr:InboundFileHeaderType/fhdr:fileName","fhdr=http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/file/;")'/>
    I use this in the xsl file to get the file name .

    does each record start with a new line? if it does a
    simple wc -l can help you. If not, you can pre
    process this XML file by first removing all the new
    line characters using sed and then adding new line
    characters after the end tag of the xml using sed and
    finally doing a wc -l . this would be a simple shell
    script. Not sure if you want to use Unix shell
    scripting to achieve this.The sheer nature of XML means that it does not conform to any visual formatting. i.e. An xml file containing...
    <employee><empno>3</empno></employee>
    is identical in XML terms to...
    <employee>
    <empno>3</empno>
    </employee>
    which is also identical in XML terms to...
    <employee>
    <empno>
    3
    </empno>
    </employee>
    which is also identical in XML terms to...
    <employee><empno>
    3
    </empno></employee>
    etc.
    You cannot rely on the number of CR's or CR/LF's in the file to count the records. Proper XML processing should be used for such a task.

  • How to set input/output "use" attribute in the WSDL file of BPEL process?

    Hello,
    I have a BPEL process that I want to deploy it as an RPC web service. I want to access it from a Java module (via an automatic generated Java stub from the WSDL file exposed by the BPEL process).
    I wrote manually the corresponding WSDL file for my BPEL process, where I stipulated for the operations exposed by my process ( in <soap:binding> tag) the value of the attribute "style" to "rpc". Also, for each <input> and <output> of the operations (inside the <operation> tag), I set manually the attributes "use" to the values "encoded". Something like this:
    <operation name="getCustomers">
    <soap:operation style="rpc" soapAction="getCustomers"/>
    <input>
    <soap:body use="encoded" encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" namespace="Trial"/>
    </input>
    <output>
    <soap:body use="encoded" encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" namespace="Trial"/>
    </output>
    </operation>
    The issue is that, when the BPEL process is built and deployed, the WSDL file generated automatically by BPEL (based on the one manually writen) set the values of the "use" attributes to "literal". This is what is generated:
    <operation name="getCustomers">
    <soap:operation style="rpc" soapAction="getCustomers" />
    <input>
    <soap:body use="literal" namespace="http://acm.org/samples" />
    </input>
    <output>
    <soap:body use="literal" namespace="http://acm.org/samples" />
    </output>
    </operation>
    Is there any chance to keep the original values (written by hand) for the "use attributes?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Marinel

    I am not sure I understand your question. If you want all your BPEL service to be rpc still by default, you can change the templates: C:\eclipse\plugins\bpelz_0.9.XXX\templates.
    The BPEL PM engine support both style of invocation.
    I hope this helps. -Edwin

  • SOLVED: Getting an Input/Output error when accessing certain files

    My system started failing a few days ago because of sudden Input/Output errors when trying to access certain files. It was running fine until various applications started crashing like for example Pidgin (in retrospect probably because of DBus crashing). I decided to reboot and now can't login anymore because the DBus module fails to load which in turn means that HAL doesn't load either and so I can't use my keyboard to login.
    The error message I get from DBus is that it can't access the file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.freedesktop.PolicyKit.conf because of an Input/Output error. I tried to fix/see what was wrong using the arch livecd. Because I thought my problem had to do with a pacman update that had failed before I'd rebooted, I updated my system and I noticed that when pacman tried to access other files it came back with the same error message. The files seemed pretty random, one of them was fakeroot.conf and then several library files like libfaad (sorry this is kind of vague but I'm away from home right now and can't go online very often so I'm writing this from memory).
    I'm guessing its a hard drive problem because checking the filesystem for errors came back with nothing. I was just wondering whether anyone had any other ideas before I go and reinstall. I'm going back home tomorrow so I'll be able to follow any advice/reinstall then.

    UPDATE
    It seems to be fixed! The second run of e2fsck fixed some more issues and the files that were causing the problems earlier seemed to have bad inodes. Boots fine now and I can get into my system. I checked and I still have a reasonable amount of free space so I don't think that was the reason ... I have no idea how the filesystem got so corrupted out of nowhere.
    A few things are different, for example, it asked me to unlock the keyring and I couldn't mount my external encrypted drive anymore and had to do it manually with cryptsetup. e2fsck made quite a few changes so I imagine it's due to that. Shouldn't be to hard to fix though.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Use the same code module for several steps in the sequence

    Hello All,
      I have been trying to set up a sequence that uses the same code module for all of the steps in the sequence, but am having trouble referring back to it when I need to send it commands.  I have gotten as far as calling the VI in a new thread so that it can be run asynchronously.  I can run the simple sequence and it will indeed open the VI, and move on to the next step.  When I close the VI manually from the front panel, the sequence in TestStand completes, as expected.  So it appears that I have that much working.
      My question is how to call the separate thread from the main sequence or other sub sequences when I need to edit the parameters.  If I insert an Action step, I am required to select a VI file, but from what I can tell, it opens a different instance of the file, and does not provide an interface with the other instance running asycronously.  My next guess was to use a Statement step, but I was not able to figure out how to configure the lookup string to call the VI parameters.  Beyond that, I'm not sure how to proceed.  Please advise.
      My intention is to start the code module VI (asynchronously), run several different subsequences within the main sequence that call that same VI and edit it's parameters, close everything and report on the results.  If I am misunderstanding how TestStand is supposed to work, please let me know.
    Thanks,

    Solved!

    What I do is use a Queue to send data to the asynchronous VI.  So it can run and do whatever, but also recieve the commands from the queue.  I use an Action Engine that holds the queue reference and sends the commands.  So you really just have to call the Action Engine from your sequences.

  • Change name of parameters output by code module

    Hi guys,
    I am calling this  code module everytime but pass different parameters as input  & get different results
    I want to customize the  Parameter Name  for the output parameters as they get saved in my report.
    & so I can be very specific.

    Hi,
    I think it is not an option or configuration in TestStand. You can try to change the parameter name in the code module.
    Have you tried this?
    best regards

  • Added a check to Text to sequence file result in Test Stand hang up.

    I added the check in text to sequence file translator.vi (the file is attached)
    With this addition I generated the dll.
    Test Stand load the sequence file without any problem for the first time.
    If I add a space to the sequence file and save the file; test stand tries to load the new sequence file saying file has changed do you want to load the new sequence...
    But fails to load the sequence (Test Stand hangs up)
    The only way to overcome is kill the TestStand thru task manager.
    Which displays
    "You chose to end the nonresponsive program, SeqEdit.exe"
    Attached the displayed error (error.doc)

    Hi Vidula,
    Is it only when you add a space to the file name that you see this behavior? If, for instance, you add a '1' to the beginging of the file name does the same thing happen?
