Serial port access time slows in version 6 to 7 upgrade

Hi - I am in the process of upgrading an project from LV 6 to LV
7, the serial port access works well in LV6 but after the
upgrade, the serial port access is slow in LV if the application is
compiled into an exe. We are running Windows 2K on all machines
and have installed the LV7.0 runtime engine on the PC that is running
the executable. If I run the application on a machine that has
the full LV7.0 development software on it, the executable runs
just like it used to under LV6.0
What am I forgetting?? The application is built into one exe that
has all of the sub vi's included. I have checked the box on the
application builder that says included serial port support.
Help! - We have 3000 PCBs sitting in manufacturing waiting to go to test until I solve this problem

I just recently finished a project in which I had to upgrade code from LV 6 to LV 7.1. After I did that the serial port actually worked but all the Fieldpoint devices that were connected to the system didn't work. The problem ultimately was the NI Fieldpoint Drivers. After I installed the newest drivers from NI everything worked perfectly. I don't know why your problem is occurring, but I wanted to reasure you that there isn't a problem with the serial ports when upgrading to LV7.1 (I don't know about LV7).BTW, I had LV6.1 development system installed on the computer, but didn't have the LV7.1 (All I had was an EXE file).
So, try installing the newest drivers. Maybe that can help.

Low Level Serial Port Access

This question has gone unanswered several times on this forum in the past but I thought I would try it once more.
Is there any Java API that is in, or will work with J2ME to allow direct read and write to the serial port similar to the functionality that javax.comm provides for j2se.
This would be useful for a project where a palmos device is used to communicate with equipment used to monitor industrial processes.

I think 95cl also supports it. I'm ALSO having problems with serial port access on
my T-Mobile Moto T720i phone. I've had MUCH success
with the Nextel i85, i50, i95cl, etc phones, but the
same code isn't running on the T720i.
What do I need to do differently???

Need faster serial port access

I am using javacomm for serial port communication and the performance is too
slow for my needs. I am comming with an embedded app from an NT machine
with my java app. For benchmark purposes I hava VB app that can also talk
to this embedded app. The round trip communication time for the VB app is
20-30 milliseconds but the java app takes ~200 milliseconds. I think I could
improve performance by writing to the serial port directly instead of going
through the javacomm api which I think is slowing me down. Is it possible to
to a low-level file open and write directly to the serial port? And if so, how?

MichaelSlowing down of communication process depends upon code content as well. if u can put ur code here, may be u can get some feedback concerned with speed.
you can not directly talk at a serial level but make a component in say C n can use native methods to access that component. But that component would be very much comparable to Win32com.dll.There would be speed difference but that difference would not be enough to warrant 'too much'

I'm very interested by your discussion, i have searched a lot of information about midp and the access to the serial port.
The specifications of midp says that the comm protocol is not available in midp.
The IBM J9 Java VM is supposed to be full midp implementation but only only for x86 processors. The lcdui package is not available with the J9 VM for palm. The lasts contact i have with ibm about this subject, they said that they will implement lcdui but they can't say when .... perhaps in 2002.
I don't know any other Java VM witch have a full midp implementation ... Kada VM will be but i don't know when ...
If you have any other information, i'm very interested

After Effects scripting: Serial port access?

Does any one know if it's possible to access the computer's serial port using an After Effectsc script?
I'm building a motion control script and I'm wondering if I can use a script to read the values of a keyframed parameter(e.g. a slider effect on a solid layer) to send serial port commands to move my rig.

I don't think that ExtendScript for AE ships with a way to do that out of the box, but in the Javascript Tools Guide for CS5, there is a section titled "Integrated External Libraries" which reads:
You can extend the JavaScript DOM for an application by writing a C or C++ shared library, compiling it for the platform you are using, and loading it into JavaScript as an ExternalObject object. A shared library is implemented by a DLL in Windows, a bundle or framework in Mac OS, or a SharedObject in UNIX.
You can access the library functions directly through the ExternalObject instance, or you can define an interface that allows your C/C++ code to create and access JavaScript classes and objects.
All Adobe Creative Suite 4 applications support this feature.
So you can probably write an app in C or C++ which communicates directly to the machine's port, and then call functions you declare in that code via ExtendScript. Sorry I couldn't be of much help here, but that's where I would start.

Open serial port each time to communicate

Hello,
I am upgrading an old serial I/O communications system. With the old system, any communications were begun by re-opening the serial port and getting a new visa resource name. The old visa resource name was never closed, but new names were continually created. In the new communications I only open the port once and use the same visa resource name. The trouble is that the new system is incredibly slow, taking almost 3 seconds to complete a message. Note: prior to reading, I do query for number of bytes at the port and then read the corresponding amount. The old system is much, much faster. Why?

Can't access Time Capsule's hard disk after Lion upgrade

I haven't been able to access my TC's hard disk after I upgraded to Lion.
I used to manually backup files to the volume but I can't do it anymore. I can't see the disk in the Finder's sidebar. Devices are all checked in Finder's preferences for sidebar and my WiFi/Internet works fine. Airport Utility doesn't show any problems and upgraded to OS X 10.7.1 but still no luck. I also tried to hook my laptop with ethernet cable and my TC but it didn't work either.
Any ideas?

I'm new to Time Capsule, but I think I have the same problem. I thought I could use Time Capsule as a hard drive, but it comes on and off in my finder. Is this normal?

Serial Port communication very slow in RDP on windows server 2012

Hellò, we have installed a new server 2012 and connected some thinclients via RDP, since that moment all peripherals connected to the imported com ports of the thinclients are running very slow, for example the cash register issue any receipt only after
15-20 seconds!!. We have try to connect via RDP also a personal computer with many other OS like windows 8, windows 7, or XP but the result is the same: 15-20 seconds for a receipt!! We solve the problem only changing the server 2012 with a old server
2008 or 2003!. How is possible window server 2012 is so slow on RDP imported com ports??. There is something to set for speed up the com ports on rdp? For us this is a great problem, all of our customers are using cash register via RDP and they can't wait
all this time for a receipt. For your information we have tried to connect the cash register to the same com port of the same thinclient to the same server 2012 without RDP and the issue of the receipt is fast, so the problem is something on RDC of the new
OS windows Server 2012. Also note this is a bi-directional communication because the cash register use a bi-directional communication for printing each one of the voice on the receipt, this problem wll not affect other printers unidirectional where the
print process starting in less one second. Please help us to solve this problem, otherwise we will not more install windows server 2012.

When the slow performance issue occurs on server 2012, check the Windows Logs – Application category of the Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) on both the client and server sides. If there is any logs recorded, please let us know them. Please also check the
driver is properly installed on server and check the compability guide with the cash register machine, whether it support server 2012 with remote session. If there is particular requirement then you need to solve them first.
In addition, would like you to try connecting with RDP 8.1 and check whether it faces same issue.

USB and serial port access in java

I have a magstripe card reader connected to my computer with a USB interface (port).
I am using javax.comm API to get the card swipe data but could not succeeded.

How do I read data from the COM3 port on my computer. I have the javax.comm thing all setup but need to figure out how the data comes in from a device plugged into that port. Having the data display on the fly as they are being read should be explained please. Thanks a lot.

Access serial port through AIR

isnt there any extensions or API buit for accessing serial
port from AIR.
i am designing a vending machile applicaton in which a coin
drop is detected and corresponding images or message is displayed.
MDM Zinc 3.0 allows serial port access but worths more than

X4100 (x4200) system console on rear serial port ?

I have a number of x4100's and would like to have the bios appear on the serial console at the rear of the device rather than the IOLM interface. I am happy to only access the IOLM interface through the ssh interface. i.e. how to i redirect the bios console on boot to the rear console port ?

The BIOS contains an option for "Console Redirect". It is typically OFF by default. If you set it ON, then power cycle the system, the BIOS screen will appear on the attached terminal. Make sure to set the baud rate properly... it should be 9600.
Have you tried hooking a console to the serial port? On some BIOS versions, "Console Redirect" is set ON by default.
The kicker here, obviously, is that if the default for this option is OFF, you have to attach a graphics head to the graphics port of the system as well as a USB keyboard to get into the bios and set console redirect to ON. There is no getting away from the fact that these Galaxy class systems use PC motherboards, albeit ones beefed up for SUN's needs.

[SOLVED] How to set non-root access to serial ports?

I need to

every time I reboot. Normally I would think to add myself to some group but "tty" group is not doing the trick... proof:

Is it possible to choose the serial port if only the run time engine is installed

I have an application, which communicates over the serial port. When I use the full version of Labview I can change the serial port without any problem from Com1 to Com2 (similar to the example “Hardeware input output -> serial -> Labview serial vi"). When I build an application and try to run this program on a computer where only the run time engine 6.1 is installed, it is not possible to choose the serial port. Since there is no “Measurement and Automation Explorer” available on the run time engine and no directory C:\VXIpnp is created, when the run time engine is installed, I do not see a way, how I can satisfy the computer with the information it needs for configuring
the different ports. Any suggestions?

Before LV6.1 there was LV5.1 In LV5.1 the way to Spedify a resource was to use a string control with correct VIsa Resource Class identifier. For eg. "GPIB0::11" or "ASRL1::INSTR". With Introduction of VISA Resource Name Control and linking with MAX, These names are Available from Pull Down List and Can be Aliased, meaning ASRL1 which is Serial Port 1 can be called COM1 and so on. However the old method still works with all 6.1 Controls. Only thing is you have to make sure you Dont Conflict the Class Names ie Use "GPIB::.." instead of "ASRL..." when addressing Serial Port VI's.
To solve your Problem I would Build a Menu ring with COM1 to COM4 in the Pull Down List.
Next, If I use the Traditonal Serial Port VI wich accepts the Integer as Seria
l Port #. I just Wire the Menu Ring to this VI.(Remember COM1 is 0, COM2 is 1 for this VI)
If I use VISA Config Serial Post. I build an Array Constant with Corresponding VISA Class Names So in our case a String Array Constant of 4 elements "ASRL1::INST" to "ASRL4::INST". I Use Index Array Function With the Index Wired to my Menu Ring. The Array Input Terminal Wired to the Array Constant. The Output of this Array will be correct Visa Class Name Based on slection of my Menu Ring. I can Wire this as Input to my VISA Config Serial Port Vi.
I have attached a Small VI to Illustrate this.
Drawback: You must Predefine what Ports you will Want to Use. Basically you define all the cases.
