Server 3 DNS Forward

Hi There
I got an Issue with DNS on OSX 10.9.4 with Server 3.
I got an EMC Isilon with Smart Connect, but when i try to make an Type Forward Record to sent all request for the hostname: ktv-srv-016.ktv to 10.10.0.72 it wouldn´t work.
Here is my config:
view "com.apple.ServerAdmin.DNS.public" {
    zone "ktv-srv-016.ktv" IN {
        type forward;
        forward only;
        forwarders {
            10.10.0.72;
    zone "workflow.koncern.dk" IN {
        type master;
        file "db.workflow.koncern.dk";
        allow-transfer {
            none;
        allow-update {
            none;
    zone "portal.koncern.dk" IN {
        type master;
        file "db.portal.koncern.dk";
        allow-transfer {
            none;
        allow-update {
            none;
    zone "0.0.127.in-addr.arpa" IN {
        type master;
        file "named.local";
        allow-update {
            none;
    zone "KTV" IN {
        type master;
        file "db.KTV";
        allow-transfer {
            none;
        allow-update {
            none;
    zone "localhost" IN {
        type master;
        file "localhost.zone";
        allow-update {
            none;
    zone "0.10.10.in-addr.arpa" IN {
        type master;
        file "db.0.10.10.in-addr.arpa";
        allow-transfer {
            none;
        allow-update {
            none;
    zone "." IN {
        type hint;
        file "named.ca";
As You can see i have made the setup with all the options:
    zone "ktv-srv-016.ktv" IN {
        type forward;
        forward only;
        forwarders {
            10.10.0.72;
But i can´t get it to work. Hope some of you got an idea.
Kind Regards
Kim

  • DNS Forwarding Servers

    Hoje removi a zona do servidor secundário e desativei todo o serviço DNS.
    Apple, help me!

  • 10.4 DNS forward

    I just upgraded to 10.4 from 10.3 and it has killed my DNS forwarding. I set it up in 10.3 with Server Admin but in 10.4, Apple in their infinite wisdom, decided that that forwarding was a bad thing and removed it from the GUI. Worse yet: it overwrote my working DNS files.
    Now I am at the point that DNS forwarding does not work and I do not know how to fix that. I do not even know what files I should modify. Here is what I do know:
    zone "xyz.com" IN {
    type forward;
    file "fwd. xyz.com";
    forwarders {10.0.6.32; 10.0.6.36;};
    The forward is over a VPN.
    Can anyone help?
    TIA,

    The following is taken from a working /etc/named.conf file:
    // Include keys file
    include "/etc/rndc.key";
    // Declares control channels to be used by the rndc utility.
    // It is recommended that 127.0.0.1 be the only address used.
    // This also allows non-privileged users on the local host to manage
    // your name server.

    Meh.... there's whitespace in there that gets ignored by this (Apple's) forum software.
    You should - of course - only use forwarding to DNS servers you should be using (eg: your ISPs)

  • DNS forwarder with 2 real DNS servers, querying them simultaneously

    DNS forwarder with >2 real DNS servers, querying them simultaneously and ignoring "server can't find" errors
    Hi. When I connect to VPN, my normal DNS isnt queried, and DNS given by VPN answers: "server can't find"
    An extract from 'man resolv.conf'
    If there are multiple servers, the resolver library queries them in the  order  listed.
    I need another logic. All servers should be queried at the same time, and the soonest positive reply should be used.
    The algorithm  used  is to try a name server, and if the query times out, try the next, until out of name servers, then repeat trying all  the  name  servers  until  a  maximum number of etries are made.
    So, if I get "server can't find" error, the next DNS server not queried. I want the DNS forwarder to ignore such answers and wait for replies from other servers.
    What software can do this? Maybe dnsmasq? I plan to add 'nameserver 127.0.0.1' to the top of my resolv.conf and configure my scripts to add other nameservers below.

    All servers should be queried at the same time
    --all-servers
    dnsmasq: ignoring nameserver 127.0.0.1 - local interface
    good.
    How to tell dnsmasq to completely disable dhcp? List all interfaces like this?
    no-dhcp-interface=eth0
    no-dhcp-interface=tun0
    no-dhcp-interface=vboxnet0
    no-dhcp-interface=wlan0

  • Unable to create DNS forwarder in my AD integrated DNS

    Hi,
    I have my mix AD servers (2003 + 2008) and im trying to create DNS forwarder to send requests to outside the Domain over natted IP for the name resolution. However, it works perfectly fine in my test environment.
    Now, when i try to create on my production server, i get below error:
    The operation requested is not permitted on the root DNS server
    Please suggest.

    Hi, it is worth checking if you have got a root (period) forward lookup zone. If you have, you will need to remove that before you can setup a forwarder. Hope this helps. If in doubt, please post some details of your forward lookup zones (with fake names).

  • DNS forward lookup

    When I run a changeip -checkhostname all returns ok from the server. When I run a dig -x on that DNS server IP all is ok. When I run a dig on the server name it fails. So forward lookup fails, reverse is fine. Any reason why?

    What DNS server(s) are involved here? Your own? ISP? A combination?
    Is the server resolving DNS itself? If so, then the network controllers reference the local box and the local DNS via the name localhost (or 127.0.0.1), and the local DNS server then connects to the upstream servers.
    Does dig with the @dns.example.com specifier for the DNS server you're interested in work?

  • Does the Extreme support dns forwarding?

    I can find no field to enter information for DNS forwarding.  Am I missing something?

    The AirPorts do not have a DNS server service built-in, thus DNS forwarding is not a user configuration option within the AirPort Utility.

  • OS X Server, Internal DNS and Apple Airport Extreme

    OK,
    There must be a way to do this. I cannot believe that this simplist of functions to a Wireless Router would have been missed off the new range of Airport devices.
    I have an OS X Server, serving DNS internally and forwarding lookups to the Airport which forwards on externally.
    Trouble is I want the Airport to connect to PPPoE and serve the guest network with DHCP and DNS but let my server do DNS on the internal network.
    Why is there not a simple box in setup utility that says "use this DNS server on the local DHCP network" or something a long theose lines. It seems mad that Apple have overlooked this, I can only say I am missing something.
    I have tried setting up a small range and putting in reservations but this limits your guest network to the same limited range so you end up with only room for two or three guests, this solution won't work for me.
    It seems stupid to put the ApE into Bridge mode as I can then not have a guest network and I shouldn't have to have two boxes to acheive what I am looking for.
    Rant over, any other help or solutions appreciated.

    @MrHoffman
    Agreed, the Guest network will not have access to the local range. I missed that part.
    In my setup, the second DNS is google server because i don't want the internet to stop working if the local server is not operational, this way at least Internet will be available.
    - Client contacts Primary DNS, If it fails to reach it, it will go to the secondary. Well, to be more accurate, the OS will choose the fastest DNS server it can reach first. Ideally that would be the local server.
    In a normal day when everyting is up and running:
    - Client contacts the Primary DNS (OSX Server DNS), if the query is a local DNS record , it will serve the IP.
    - If the query is not a local record, it will send it to the forwarder DNS server defined in the DNS service (ISP DNS or Google DNS)
    For the guest network, It would be worth checking to do the following:
    - Add a second Wifi network interface on the server and connect it to the guest network IP address.
    - On the AirPort Extreme, put the Guest network IP address of the OSX Server in the secondary DNS field.
    In this case the guest clients will always try to reach the local network DNS first and then failover to the guest network IP of the DNS server.
    @piperspace
    Well, a home router is already working as a local DNS server that tries to resolve locally then forwards to an external DNS server when it cannot resolve the name.
    Primary and secondary in an enterprise space will surely be a main and a backup and both contain the same name spaces. But the point here was about home use and therefore the purpose will be a backup DNS server for the internet at least.

  • Forms/4GL Tutorial Returns Cannot find server or DNS Error

    Hi:
    I am trying to plow through this tutorial (10.1.3.1.0) and when I run the SRList.jpsx page I receive the error: Cannot find server or DNS Error. The URL produced by JDeveloper is:
    http://192.168.99.36:8988/SRTutorialADFBC-UserInterface-context-root/faces/app/SRList.jspx.
    Any suggestions?
    I've culled the forums and the Web, and cannot find a match. The only nugget that I can add is that I'm using JDeveloper with the OA Framework extension. I have been successful creating pages with OA Framework and executing them. Is there some incompatibility with OA Framework and ADF?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Mchrist,
    You cannot use the OA Framework download to develop ADF apps.
    I would create two batch/command files: in each one, set JDEV_USER_DIR and any other environment variables to point to a proper place and run the JDeveloper.
    Just unzip JDev and OA Framework to separate locations and ensure that the user directory for each is in a separate location as well.

  • Intermittent "Cannot find server or dns error"

    We are getting "Cannot find server or dns error" intermittently. It happens most frequently using internet explorer on https. Anyone else getting this or have any suggestions?
    (I have logged as TAR 1525537.999)
    null

    After many, many hours or research and corresponding with other
    Oracle resources, we resolved the issue. We still receive the
    "Cannot find server or DNS error" but with much, much less
    frequency.
    Here are the complete details:
    Environment:
    Windows NT 4.0 SP 6
    Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2
    Oracle 9iAS Portal 3.0.9.8.0
    Oracle 8i Database 8.1.7.0.0
    Apache HTTP Server: 1.3.19 (win32)
    mod_ssl: 2.8.1
    OpenSSL: 0.9.5a
    SSL port: 443
    Problem:
    We were running into the following error intermittently (but very
    frequently) when accessing pages in the Oracle Portal application
    with SSL enabled:
    "Cannot find server or DNS error" at the bottom of a "Page cannot
    be displayed" error page.
    Resolution:
    7 Applied patchset for Oracle8i 8.1.7.1.1 (to database client and
    server)
    7 Applied patchset for Oracle8i 8.1.7.1.5 (to database client and
    server)
    7 Applied patchset for Oracle Portal 3.0.9.8.1
    7 Implemented solution for Oracle Bug No. 1822053 (HTTP 404 Doing
    Portal Development) by changing (and un-commenting) the following
    line in our Apache http.conf file:
    From: #SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" nokeepalive
    ssl-unclean-shutdown
    To: SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" ssl-unclean-shutdown
    7 Implemented solution for Oracle Bug No. 1821195 (When uploading
    large file using modplsql & SSL error reading data from client)
    by replacing the existing ApacheModuleSSL.dll file with the
    patched file referenced in the bug details.
    Note: Bug No. 1821195 is for Oracle9iAS 1.0.2.2. It references
    Bug No. 1773627 for Oracle9iAS 1.0.2.1.
    I feel the biggest help was finding out about Bug No.
    1821195/1773627. We were provided the bug details by a local
    Oracle technical consultant, Dave McMarlin, referred to us by the
    Oracle Joint Staff Account Manager. That solved our problem with
    receiving the noted error message when we tried to add items to
    the content area. Applying the change to the http.conf file
    identified by Bug No. 1822053 (removing the nokeepalive entry) in
    combination with the Oracle8i and Oracle Portal upgrade seems to
    have solved our problems with the other intermittent occurrences
    of the noted error message.
    According to the details for the ApacheModuleSSL.dll patch, there
    was mention of a bug in the "select" function in Windows NT 4.0:
    "When checking a socket, if data can be read without blocking,
    select () returns yes, but when actually reading from the socket
    with recv(), that function returns WSAEWOULDBLOCK, which says
    that reading would block. It seems that this problem does not
    occur in usual operation, but only in an SSL enabled Apache
    (modssl or apache-ssl) with https. The code for WIN32, which
    handles writing to a socket, already contains a workaround for
    this. The code for reading from a socket did not have a
    workaround."

  • Unable to resolve server's DNS address.

    Been sharing my internet (ethnernet) with another Mac OS X 10.6 via airport, but the other mac is unable to resolve server's DNS address. Help?

    Hi,
    Have you contacted your internet service provider (ISP) as DNS usually are ISP related. Have they reset their modem or router,  not just power cycle?
    I suggest you change the Preferred DNS server, try the following steps:
    1. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
    2. Right click on the connection that you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties".
    3. Click to select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", and then click "Properties".
    4. In the Internet Protocol window, let's change the "Preferred DNS server" to 208.67.222.222
    5. Click 'OK' twice to complete the modification.
    If the issue persists, please repeat the steps and change the "Preferred DNS server" to 208.67.220.220.
    Also, if the issue persists, I suggest you run the following command:
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    To get IP address & DNS from DHCP, the DNS server should be internal DNS server IP.
    Hope this helps,
    Ada Liu

  • VPN server configuration - dns troubles

    Some variants of this issue have popped up on this forum, but could not quite resolve my issue. I have VPN running on OSX 10.6 server, but when the client connects to the server, they cannot browse the Internet by their host-name. However, they are able to browse the web by entering IP addresses. On the server side, DNS servers are configured to be 8.8.8.8, and network routing definition set to 192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0. L2TP IP range is 192.168.1.2 - 10. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Many parts of Mac OS X Server require functional DNS services.
    When you are operating behind NAT, no external DNS provider can typically provide you with DNS translations.
    Neither your ISP nor Google can provide you with DNS translations within private IP blocks.  Only local DNS can do that.
    The other matter here is the attempt to operate Mac OS X Server as a gateway.  That gets gnarly, and there are many discussions of that posted around the forums.  It's far easier to use an external gateway box, and to avoid configuring a Mac as an expensive and awkward and ungainly and insecure IP router; to avoid the potential to expose open ports or random server applications to the wilds of the internet, as well as avoiding the routing configuration difficulties inherent in the default Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server user interfaces.
    Irrespective of all that DNS configuration and LAN-local stuff, your VPN needs to have a DNS server from the target LAN or it will have no translations for a NAT'd network.  By default, most VPNs will use the provided DNS for NAT'd hosts as well as public hosts.  Which you don't have.
    The usual Mac OS X Server configuration order is the host software, basic IP networking and LAN routing, DNS services, Open Directory (OD), and only then with the rest of everything else.
    If that sudo changeip -checkhostname command is tossing a DNS warning, then you have DNS issues on the LAN.  Need help setting up LAN-local DNS on Mac OS X Server?  Here are detailed DNS set-up instructions.
