Server Hangs with no Exception Thrown
Thank you to phyzome for sugesting i use a more descriptive subject.
We are running a resin server with Java 1.3.
I am programming in Java 1.4.
I have had 2 instances where my program called a method that wasn't supported in 1.3 and the server didn't throw an exception. I'm not positive but that's what it looks like.
Problem 1) Asked a GregorianCalendar object X.getTimeInMillis().
Problem 2) Asked for String.split().
In the code there was proper error handling but the exception was never thrown.
Any thoughts on this?
Really the question is, If you write code and want it to be portable, how can you write it so that it will fail gracefully on it's new platform? I know that I can put a test in the code to verify that it's running on the right version but why would the server just sit there?
Thanks again.
ps - I have since worked around the problems.

am I missing anything to be done
Regards
SooriYou can try this simple fix -
Quit DW.
Find this file -
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration\WinFileCache-*.dat
(these folders are normally hidden - you may have to use
Explorer > Tools >
Folder Options to unhide them)
and delete it.
Restart DW. Works better?

App Server changes the actual exception thrown [URGENT]
Hello All,
I am getting a very typical problem with SJS Platform Edition 8.1_01. I have a form to delete a record from table which throws an exception with oracle error in message as "ORA-02292: integrity constraint (some_constraint name) violated - child record found" .
Another code checks the message and converts it into more user friendly message to be displayed. This word fine when application runs in Studio. Problem arises when the application is deployed on Application Server. Here, the message is provided when same exception is thrown as "java.rmi.RemoteException: Unidentified Trap Session : nested exception is: java.rmi.RemoteException: nested exception is: java.rmi.RemoteException: "
Since this doesn't contain any ORA error no. the message is not converted to user friendly message.
I am not able to find out the reason for this as the same code works well on IBM Websphere studio/ App Server and also works fine on Sun Java Studio {jstudio_04Q4}.
Is there any configuration change that I need to do on SJS Platform Edition 8.1_01 or is there any setting which truncate the actual message of exception because in log I can see the whole message as "java.rmi.RemoteException: Unidentified Trap Session : nested exception is: java.rmi.RemoteException: nested exception is: java.rmi.RemoteException: Remote Entity Remove: delete from CARD_MASTER where CARD_TYPE = ? ORA-02292: integrity constraint (ORACLE.FK_PROMO_CARD) violated - child record found"
Please help ASAP as this is becoming very critical.I'm not sure what do you mean that it works with Studio?
You can see an exception text when you execute the SQL?
To check the actual exception text, you need to catch
the exception on the server side (i.g. in a Session Bean),
make sure the transaction is rolled back (if you need so),
and re-throw it as a checked exception to make sure the
text is untouched.

Bpel Server Does Not Catch Exceptions Thrown By Custom Xpath Functions
Hi.
I am using some custom xpath functions in a bpel process and whenever they fail I get an XPathExecutionError with summary:
XPath expression failed to execute.
Error while processing xpath expression, the expression is "<my function>", the reason is FOTY0001: type error.
Please verify the xpath query.
I am forcing my function to fail by giving a wrong input, which should result in an XPathFunctionException("Input does not respect format").
There is a note on Metalink with ID 458434.1 on this subject which says that patch 5926809 should fix my problem.
Patch 5926809 fixes Bug 5926809 - ORA:PARSEESCAPEDXML XPATH EXPRESSION FAILED TO EXECUTE FOTY0001: TYPE ERROR.
I am using it, but it does not work :(
I am using version 10.1.3.3.0 of App Server with various patch sets, including fix for bug 5926809.
Has anyone suggestions on how to overcome this problem?
ThanksHello,
I am trying to add a custom xpath function to the BPEL server, and I see that you made it work. I am using Oracle SOA Suite 10.1.3.3 and jDeveloper 10.1.3.4. I am using this function inside an xsl mapping file, although I am able to compile and deploy the Bpel Process to the server, it stops mapping where I placed the function and I have not seen any meaningful message from the domain/log/ files.
Can you tell me how you did it?
I think you will tell me faster than Oracle support, I already placed an SR but they just give me superficial advice.
I appretiate your time and advice,

All job submitted remains in "Suspend" mode and never pass in "Executing".
To solve the problem I've to manually stop and restart the DeskIjob server, but after some hours the problem reappear.
How to solve it?
I've installed Business Objects XI R2 SP5 on Linux SLES 10

Problems with RelationalDataSample exceptions thrown from VS2005
I am not sure which version of the Oracle.DataAccess .Net assy to use. But both of them throw an exception at run time.

Thank you,
JohnHi John,
Are you still chasing this issue down?
I have found that one of the causes of the "System.BadImageFormatException" exception results from the following set of circumstances:
o 32-bit ODP.NET installed on 64-bit o/s
o .NET application compiled with either "Any CPU" or "x64" set for the "Platform target"
o The application is then deployed to the 64-bit host with the 32-bit ODP.NET installed
o The application executes as a 64-bit application but tries to load the 32-bit ODP.NET, thus the exception
Not sure if this might apply to your situation, but I see "C:\\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework64" in the text you provided. Since there is not yet a 64-bit release of ODP.NET 11g I wonder if this might be the case.
For what it's worth, I have not experienced any of the problems you've described in your other threads, but I am using 10.2.0.4 on Intel 64-bit with Win 2003...

Hi all:
It seems the JMS server hangs in WLS 6.1 after one Tx timeout due to
some reason. The following is the tread dump. Can anyone tell me why? or
any hints?
The WLS server still functions, web server and app server both are
responding to request. Only the JMS server hangs.
The exception is also attached as follows.
Thanks.

use it on my team!
Minjiang, the stack trace reports a transaction timeout. This can happen
druing a long running bean process , and will be further aggrevated if you
are running in debug mode. Try increasing the timeout in your deployment
descriptor, or, optimize your code ;)

JMS does not appear on any of the stacks in the thread dump.
Please describe the actual symptoms you are seeing (as oppposed
to the moer general statement that the JMS server hangs).
Can you get an application to attach to the server (create
an initial context and do some JNDI lookups). Can that
application then create a JMS connection, a JMS session,
and so forth. At what point does it hang. How do you
know it is hung? what is not happening? what do you
expect to happen? Do you have listeners that stop
responding? Do you see messages in the destinations
from the console? What JVM is this?
Nteo that the exception/error you posted is for an invocation of
com.kbf.ejb.remotemgr.RemoteMgrBean.getOldCurrPairRates()
which has exactly nothing to do with JMS. It is not being invoked
by JMS and does not appear to be invoking JMS.

Thanks.

Catching an exception thrown from another thread
I have a SocketServer that creates new threads to handle incoming clients. If one of the threads throw a SQLException is it possible to catch that exception in the SocketServer that created that thread.
I tried implementing this code and I cannot get the server to catch an exception thrown in the thread. Are my assumptions correct?
I was reading something about Thread Groups and implementing an uncoughtException() method, but this looked like overkill.
Thanks for your time!
Some Example code would be the following where the ClientThread will do a database query which could cause an SQLException. I'd like to catch that exception in my Socket Server
try
new ClientThread( socketServer.accept() , host, connection ).start();
catch( SQLException e )
System.out.println( "DataSource Connection Problem" );
e.printStackTrace();
}hehe, why?
The server's job is to listen for an incoming message from a client and pass it off to a thread to handle the client. Otherwise the server will have to block on that incoming port untill it has finished handling the client and usually there are many incoming clients continuously.
The reason I would want to catch an exception in the server based on the SQLException thrown in the thread is because the SQLException is usually going to be due to the fact the datasource connection has become unavalable, or needs to be refreshed. This datasource connection is a private variable stored in the socket server. The SocketServer now needs to know that it has to refresh that datasource connection. I would normally try to use somesort of flag to set the variable but to throw another wrench into my dilemma, the SocketServer is actually its own thread. So I can't make any of these variables static, which means I can't have the thread call a method on teh socket server to change the status flag. :)
I guess I need implement some sort of Listener that the thread can notify when a datasource connection goes down?
Thanks for the help so far, I figured java would not want one thread to catch another thread's exceptions, but I just wanted to make sure. -

Exceptions thrown while importing tables from SQL Server 2000
Hi all,
<MyProblem:
I cannot import the tables defined in my local SQL Server. An exception is thrown --oracle.jdeveloper.cm.ds.db.ValidationException: Columns of type varchar cannot have a size specified.
/>
<What I have done:
In Oracle JDev 10g, Created a new DB connection called "SQLServerConnection" to connect to the SQL Server and it works fine. I am able to see all tables by expanding the connection.
During the creation of a new partner link named "DBAdapter", I use the adapter wizard to select DB Adapter and then select the "SQLServerConnection" DB connection I have created. I select Perform an Operation on a Table and then check Select. After I pressed OK button on the[i] Import Tables dialog, a Error messege box emmerged indicating the Exception: Columns of type varchar cannot have a size specified.
I try to change the data type of the columns of the tables to char, there is still similar exception (Columns of type char cannot have a size specified).
/>
I got the stack trace from the prompt by using jdev.exe.

Audio service hangs on Windows Server 2008R2 with Remote Desktop Services
Hello!
I have some terminal servers on Windows Server 2008R2. Users have the ability to use web browsers (IE, Firefox) with the included Flash Player, IM clients / Internet
telephony (Skype, ICQ), Windows Media Player, Office, and a specific internal software (works with MS SQL). I have the following problem: the Windows audio service hangs up that leads to hangup of all programs which use it, such as: any sites in Internet with
a flash content (in all browsers), ICQ, Skype.Even logging out the session hung when tried to lose a sound. It's impossible to stop or restart service from the services.msc the service just hang with status "restarting". To stop service I terminate svchost
process. As soon as the audio service is stopped - all programs start to work correctly (certainly without a sound). This problem appeared not suddenly - periodic hangups of programs on servers were marked long ago (more than half a year), but not directly
were connected to audio service, especially there were they rather rare (on the average once a week - two) and were corrected by server reset. The error message:

Recently I updated Skype to the last version 6.0.66.120. Before was 4.2.35.155 because versions 5хх on Windows2008R2 with the Remote Desctop Services actually don't
work, if users at the server more than one or two. We checked the sixth version by the test machine with the terminal environment and very were delighted to its normal working capacity. However after installation of this client on production servers it appeared
that hangups of programs on servers began to occur on the average time at an o'clock in case of an average daily load (about 20 users on one server). If you have worked one or two users, problems weren't watched. Internet search led me to the support page
Skype, where the Windows 7 x64 user faced a similar problem in the fifth version of the program. But the solutions proposed by the support team does not help me. In addition, I found the advice to disable enhancements in the properties of the playback device,
but it is impossible for the "Remote Audio" device.
At the moment, on servers where I updated the Skype, I disabled the audio service. If within a reasonable time, I do not find a solution, I will have to revert
to an older version of Skype, but I would like to solve the problem completely.Enable the Allow audio and video playback redirection Group Policy setting
To allow audio and video playback when connecting to a computer running Windows Server 2008 R2, you must enable the Allow audio and video playback redirection Group Policy setting. The Allow audio and video playback redirection Group Policy setting is located
in Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Device and Resource Redirection and can be configured by using either Local Group Policy Editor or the Group Policy Management
Console (GPMC).
For more information about Group Policy settings for Remote Desktop Services, see the Remote Desktop Services Technical Reference (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=138134).
Is this policy applied? Refer:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd759165.aspx
Also, have you tried update the audio device driver for this terminal server? -
Exception thrown if one server is brought down - consumer closed
Hi,
I'm using Sun App Server 7.0 to host our web app.
We are using JMS to send and receive messages between the 2 servers in the farm.
We use the "imqAddressList" property of the "ConnectionFactory" to list the Hot names for subscription.
If we bring down one of the app servers, the other server throws the following exception:
javax.jms.IllegalStateException: [C4063]: Cannot perform operation, consumer is closed.
at com.sun.messaging.jmq.jmsclient.Consumer.checkState(Consumer.java:279)
at com.sun.messaging.jmq.jmsclient.MessageConsumerImpl.checkReceive(MessageConsumerImpl.java:154)
at com.sun.messaging.jmq.jmsclient.MessageConsumerImpl.receive(MessageConsumerImpl.java:369)
at com.ams.framework.jms.JMSSubscriberThread.run(Unknown Source)
Is there any workaround for this issue:
Is there a way to stop the connection attempt at this point?
Please advice.
Thanks
ShekhsSome of you need would be better suited to the application server forum, but let's see if I can provide some help. Now, the following doesn't account for any licensing restrictions you may have, so you'll have to be the judge of that.
Predicate 1. You can have as many brokers as you need.
Predicate 2. A server can attach to any broker regardless of its location.
Predicate 3. A SJS MQ cluster is not the same thing as an application server cluster. Make sure you are clear when you are mentioning a broker.
Predicate 4. A SJS MQ cluster is used primarily for load balancing.
Based on P1, you should start at least one broker per development stage. This will prevent load testing, for example, to affect development and production. (Not necessarily true if they are on the same machine, but I digress)
Now, I'm pretty rusty on my app server skills, but since an application server instance can connect to any number of brokers, you would be able to get an application server instance, for test for example, to connect to testBroker A, and another application server instance, for production, to connect to prodBrokerA. Now since the MQ cluster is a function of the JMS layer, unknown to the application server, nothing prevents you from doing an MQ cluster between prodBrokerA and prodBrokerB (for application server instance B), and another cluster for testBrokerA and testBrokerB.
Once that is done, you can think of clustering the application servers A and B, but that chat belongs to another forum....
With all of that, you need to make sure your machines have enough resources (CPU, Memory and I/O) to support all of that software....

Lots of exceptions thrown with JRockit JVM
Hi,
We are switching to test our codes based on JRockitRealTime 3.0.0, 1.6, linux 64 from Sun HotSpot.
Our Coherence version is 3.3.1
We notice a quite a few things are significant slower when compared to the results based on HotSpot.
Turning on the Xverbose:exceptions=debug, we see lots of exceptions thrown, the following is just 1 example of many (with different kinds of stack trace too) related to Coherence API calls. And we believe they are the main cause to the slowdown. Has this kind of problem observed and reported to Coherence before? We did not see the exceptions from running HotSpot JVM, and looks like there is no need/way to turn on the exception traces from HotSpot HVM so we assume there were no exceptions thrown when we ran our applications based on HotSpot JVM.

Jasper

--- End of stack trace^MHi Jasper,
First, I'd like to underscore that what you see are exceptions that are expected and handled gracefully by the standard Java serialization or Coherence classes.
The reason you don't see those exceptions with Sun's JVM is that it does not have an option (at least to my knowledge) to show them. This is a very nice debugging feature of JRockit that allows you to see what is going on (and always has been!) under the hood.
The example you gave is a part of the XmlBean introspection logic checking for a public "clone" method. This code runs once per a class initialization as a part of the static initializer and, as a result, does not impact an application performance. However, if you see exceptions that are occurring constantly, it definitely should be of concern.

Gene
