Question

Hi, I bought my macbook pro 13inch last year in January. After I upgraded to Mavericks around a month later I started getting service battery error. my cycle count is 418. So do i need to replace my battery or not?

Even though you're out of your warranty period (unless you purchased AppleCare) I would take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them test the battery. 418 cycle counts is very high for a computer just 14 months old - you may have been letting the battery completely drain before plugging back up to mains or simply not following Apple's 'advice' on how to get the most mileage out of your battery.
Apple considers the battery to be a user consumable item - and if you've not treated your battery well, it may be reaching the point of half-way consumption, at least. The very worst that could happen is that Apple could recommend replacing your battery: and the cost isn't that great.
