Service-Enabled Entity Objects

Hi,
I have tried to run the applications from this blog on the integrated WebLogic server
there are 2 applications:
- SalaryControlService, in which the application module is published as a service interface, so in this way can be used(the methods and ViewObjects published) by any other application as an external service
- and SalaryUpdateRemote, in which an EntityObject is constructed based on a ViewObject from remote application, exposed through Web Service
In the consumer application I am able to create the EntityObject by passing the WSDL url, the ViewObject it's also ok, and when I run the ApplicationModule, the data is retrieved correctly. The problem appears when I try to run the main.jspx page, in which case I get an error:
java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: lt.andrejusb.model.common.serviceinterface.HrModuleService
I don't understand why when running the ApplicationModule, the data from the ViewObject is retrieved correctly, but when using the ViewObject in the jspx page it is not working. Do you have any idea if it's related with the mappings done in connections.xml? This is not the correct path?

You might want to post the question on the blog that published the sample.
One thing to check is whether your JSF project has dependency defined on the service project under project properties->dependencies

I have tried to create one entity object (ADF Business Component) in JDeveloper 11g using service interface option instead of database schema but getting Failed to read service WSDL URL: http://....?wsdl message.
I have tried with axis default service Admin & Version wsdl and got same error message.

Creating Entity Object from Service Interface - JDeveloper version 11.1.1.3

In our project, we don't intend to have any JDBC connection to a database and want to create all my entity objects using SDO web services deployed in a remote server. I could create an entity object based on a SDO web service deployed in the standalone WL server successfully. But at the time of Development,when I select ADF Business Component --> Entity Object, it always takes to a screen that prompts for a JDBC connection, if you have no connection defined in the project yet. To bypass this, I need to create a valid connection to a local DB and then I can go the next page that prompts me to to choose service interface and asks for a WSDL URL. How do I get around creating a JDBC connection and create a service interface based data source directly?
To get around this issue, I created a connection to a local DB by providing a wrong password to make sure that we don't need a valid db connection. The application module (Business Component Browser) works fine when the DB connection is broken. But when I create a JSF page and put the data control there, if we don't have the DB connection established it gives error during deployment.I tried deleting the unused connection, but that gives a lot of errors during deployment. My question is;
1. How can I create a service interface based data source by-passing the requirement for a connection?
2. If that's not possible - how can I cleanly delete the JDBC connection and all it's dependencies, so that, it deploys and runs without error

I have made some progress in last two days and solved some of the original issues. I deleted the fake JDBC connection from connection.xml that I had to use to go to the second screen that lets me select the WSDL for the service interface. After that, I checked off the "Auto Generate and Synchronize ..." option from Application --> Application Properties --> Deployment. (thanks to Steve Muench's blog post on this subject). After that, I could deploy the JSF page and the page shows up with no problem.
However, when I try to run the App Module that was created from the WSDL (service interface), it brings up a pop-up with heading "Password Required" that says "Enter the password for" and asks for a user name and password (not sure what they are as they take any value and takes me to the next screen). After that, I can open the View and navigate through it. When i change some data and try to commit - it makes the change to the data and stores in the DB but gives an error saying "(oracle.jbo.NotConnectedException) JBO-25200: Application module is not connected to a database."
Also, the data control created from the service interface had operations called Commit and Rollback. I used the Commit on JSF page and that does the exact same thing too. Any idea?
Also - when we consume a SDO WSDL to create the entity object - how can we access the SOAP Request and Response objects? We have to implement WS-Security by instrumenting the SOAP header and need to get a handle on that. Is there a mechanism similar to JAX-WS handler framework for SDO?

Accessing Remote Data Over the Service-Enabled Application Module

I am trying to access the service enabled module remotely(model project is deployed on different machine) deployed on Integrated WLS server. For that I have done the following step;
1)     Created simple model project as producer.
2)     Created the jar of model project(producer) .
3)     Added the Bc_profileCommon.jar to the Consumer app.
4)     Changed the connections.xml(Consumer) file accordingly (PFA).
5)     Created the Entity Objects based on the wsdl in Consumer.
6)     Created the JNDI on server and added the users with credentials.
7)     I managed to access service enabled app module locally.
But I am not able to understand following tags in the connections.xml(for remote access) file such as

As Bob rightly says you may have a problem if the machine you are trying to access is on a corporate network as you will need the permission and help of the network administrator to achieve this.
I assume from your post that there is not a VPN connection set up on the remote PC network. Assuming that you have access to the router on the remote network then you will need to set up portforwarding on it at some point so I suggest you go to this page and see if your router is listed as you will need some instructions if you don't use the software suggested by Bob.
When accessing a remote machine, PC or Mac, I have always used a secure connection to do so and the alternative to a VPN is an SSH tunnel. Unfortunately unlike the Mac Windows doesn't come with SSH server software installed so if you want to go down this route you will have to install and configure this first. I haven't tried this on Windows 7 yet but I have been successful on Windows XP and there are plenty of sites with instructions on how to set this up like this one here. Once the SSH server is set up on the PC and port 22 on your remote router has been forwarded then you can set up a SSH tunnel in the same way as described in my post in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10847513&#10847513

Error while saving data using two entity objects (EO)

Hi All,
i am using two entity objects for saving the date in two different tables.
on my page i am having two tables and two save buttons for saving the data in the respective tables.
if i am not entering any data on the first table and putting valid data on the second table and click on the save button.
it is going into error saying "Null Pointer Exception"..
i am using getTransaction.commit() in my AM.
so it is trying to save all the data in both the tables.
i want to commit data of the respective table for which the save button is clicked.

Problem with database schema objects in the entity object wizard

Hi All,
When creating a new entity object, I am facing a problem with database schema objects in the entity object wizard, database schema objects (check boxes for tables,synonyms...) are disabled. Actually I am using a synonym but I am not able to select the synonym check box.
Can any of you folks tell me how to enable the database schema objects (check boxes for tables,synonyms...).

Make sure your using rite version of jdeveloper..
Make sure your using apps schema and check whether your able perform DML operations in the schema vis sql developer.

ADF BC Entity Object read security

What is the "read" operation used for in the Security section of the "Jobs" Entity Object configuration?
I modified the example application and checked the enabled checkbox for the "read" operation on the "Jobs" Entity Object. After that, using the "Edit Authorization..." dialog (from the context menu on the "Jobs" Entity Object in the Structure Panel), I checked the "Read" checkbox for the "clerk" role.
This looks to me like a configuration from which one could expect that only a "clerk" can read.
After that I run the "HrModule" Application Module and authenticate as a "developer" (user "steve"), which has no privileges granted, and I can still read all the attributes for the rows in the "JobsView1" View Object instance (which is based on the "JobsView" View Object for which all the attributes come from the "Jobs" Entity Object).
How can this be explained?

In that thread Frank Nimphius points out "this seems to be malfunctioning and will be bugged",

Best practice : Base an Entity object on a table or on PLSQL Package?

Hello,
We are going to build an application based upon services. We'd like to implement the data part of our services with the ADF BC components. Each Service data part is represented as an Application.
There are two ways to define an entity within an application
(1) Directly based upon the database tables
(2) Based upon a PLSQL package, containing insert/update/delete functionality (as described in paragraph 26.4 of the ADF Dev. guide for Forms/4GL Developers)
I can imagine that the last methodology is (from a services standpoint) a cleaner separation between the data and the model layer.
What are the advantages/disadvantages in real life of basing an Entity object on a PLSQL package?

ClassNotFound Exception integrating Coherence and Eclipselink with composite key entity objects

I am hooking up coherence as an L2 cache for eclipselink in weblogic 12c (using the latest released weblogic and eclipselink 2.4.2.v20130514-5956486). I have my application war and coherence gar packaged in the same EAR file. For Entity Objects with single primary keys (Longs) coherence integration works as expected. However I have several multi-part key Entity Objects that use an IdClass to represent the key. When these objects get serialized, coherence throws a class not found exception. I'm assuming its because the cachekey used is an instance of my applications IdClass, and the weblogic classloader doesn't have access to this. Since eclipselink hides the cache integration with coherence, I cannot pass my classloader off to coherence (as i do with other caches i'm using directly with coherence).
How can I get around this problem?
I saw this option in ExternalizableHelper.xml, but modifying it directly had no effect:

Entity Object

Hi,
I am trying my first test page in the OAF..
I did the following steps:
1. downloaded the correct version of JDev, unzip it and set the environment variable.
2. i copied the db_connection to the .dbc into dbc_files\secure.
3. I opened the toolbox workspace and run hello page to ensure everything is OK..
Then i created my own workspace with a default package xx.oracle.apps.ak and added a new project.
Then I added 3 packages (xx.oracle.apps.ak.xxtest.schema.server, xx.oracle.apps.ak.xxtest.server and xx.oracle.apps.ak.xxtest.webui)
these packages added from new>Web Tier>OA Component > Package file
Currently i am trying to create the entity object. i right click "xx.oracle.apps.ak.xxtest.schema.server" then new entity object
i typed the name, specified the table name in the schema object ( i typed the table name because the list is not populated)
I observed that all the database schema are disabled and the table was checked previously (can not be changed)
when i pressed next, the entity attributes part is empty and the only enabled button is "New"
why they are disabled.... i already checked my dbconnection and was tested successfully.
I already set the database and runtime connection in the project properties.
is there anything missing?

I solved the issue..
I deleted the system folder, regenerate it again and checked the business component in the project properties..
the options are enabled now...
I preferred to separate my developments from the jdev files (my projects, my classes... etc) since i am still learning i created workspaces, projects several times and needed to deleted them totally from the hard drive..
is there a better way to separate my files?
would it be done by changing the environment variable to something other than ......\jdevhome\jdev??
One more question, I noticed that there is the classpath under myprojects (mycompany\oracle\apps....), what is the use of it?
should i rename mycompany to the real name and use it instead of creating new packages?

Entity Object validation for "Date" type

I am trying to use the Entity Object validation for a Date field type, it is a required field.
I am using the format: MM/dd/yy HH:mm:ss
It is a simple validation where the date value must be less than or equal to the current date/time.
I tried using "Query Result" validation where the date is LESS THAN the query SELECT SYSDATE FROM dual.
This throws an error:
JBO-27011: Attribute set with value 2006-07-09 14:05:53.0 for LksrSurveyDte in LCFSReportService.LeakDetailView1 failed.
I have be unable to find help on validating dates using validation for an Entity Object and need some help.

In your case you can implement a service method in the VO to check if any other reservation overlaps with the new one (which is not inserted in the db).
I would use a an other VO (e.g. VODateCheck) for this. This VO has it's query build to check if a given roomid and a given startdate(time?) overlaps any other record for the roomid
select * from ReservationRoom where RoomId=:bindRoomId and ReservationEnd>=:bindReservationStartIf this query returns one or more rows you have an overlapping in the schedule and throw an error.
You call this VODateCheck from your service method in the other module before inserting the record. Set the bind variables in the VODateCheck and execute the query.

Entity Object's "addNewRow" Permission, how to implement?

Hi,
this is a generic question about an implementation strategy to be followed for ADF Authorization.
I've been researching the definition of permissions at the entity object level, and successfully tested the 3 permission targets available: read, update, removeCurrentRow.
However, I'd actually need the full set of permission targets for CRUD operations, which means that ADF lacks an "addNewRow" to secure row creation on EOs.
What should be the strategy to implement that?
Is it a planned feature so waiting till, say, 11g Release 2 should bring it to the table, or has it been left out by design and thus it just won't be added? In the latter case, how to actually implement it?
I'd need to actually hide/disable the Create/CreateInsert button on my edit pages if the underlying EO does not allow new row creation for the current role. I gave a thought to EO's Custom Properties as a way to handle that extra permission flag, but is it a viable way? Can they be accessed through EL so that I can, say, use them directly in the Rendered/Disabled property of the button to regulate access?
Or would you suggest another strategy altogether?
Please share your ideas.

Well, I can definitely see some benefits in having security at the model layer, at least in our scenario. In a complex app with many edit pages often dealing multiple times with the same EOs, having to specify a single set of policies on the EO itself and see it automatically implemented on every page seems a plus and a step ahead from 10g - not that I tried Security in 10g, but I know the approach. Seeing fields automatically become read-only or datacontrol operation buttons such as Delete become disabled without specifying anything on the page is cleaner and will speed up development a bit, too (for large numbers of pages that might be significant, on a small app it's probably irrelevant).
Probably not as useful and powerful as model-driven lists, but still a welcome feature. You probably have a point about the double mainteinance, but that may be avoided if the BC layer security truly encompasses everything (e.g. if I can't rely on a "create" permissions, I'll certainly have to maintain additional code as well as additional BC data such as custom properties to deal with that, and this is even worse).
Another point is that I might want to enable/disable functionality on the page via EL/backing bean based on BC permissions, and that seems useful. Being able to express a condition like "this EO is accessible" or "this attribute is accessible" is sometimes much superior to "user belongs to this role". It's better to decouple roles from the secured targets and just use the latter, IMHO. Especially becuse we'll likely won't have a fixed set of static roles defined in advance for all customers we'll deploy our webapp to.
Just my 2 cents, anyway, you might end up being totally right :-)

ADF Entity Object: Securable Operation "Create"?

I have the following scenario: Within one view I have a table bound to a view object that bases on an entity object. The view also contains a "create insert" button.
Now I want to secure the "create insert" operation with a certain application role. However, within the entity object I can only activate the removeCurrentRow, read and update options as securable operation. Is there any way to control the creation of new items?

Entity Object Caching!

Hi I am trying to understand what kind of caching an entity object does. Suppose a user issues a query which returns X no of rows utilizing a view Object. If another user issues the same query, will it retrieve from the entity object or go to the database to find it?
What do developers have to do in order to minimize visits to the database?

My understanding is that the query will still be send to the database, the rows returned will be compared with those in the cache, and if they exist and have not been changed the cached objects will be used.
To enable Oracle to prevent queries being submitted to the database the BC4J framework would have to support functionality similar to that provided by Oracle parallel server (and its support for distributed caches) determing whether data had been modified via distributed locks.
I apologise if this is a bum steer, perhaps Development can comment...
