Servlet produced XML and Cocoon 2

Hello,
I have just over one years experience with using servlets, and have a good understanding of the way that they operate.
I am currently trying to dynamically produce XML from a servlet and pipe this through Cocoon 2, however I have had no success so far, and have trawled through all of the Cocoon mailing list.
I am aware that (and indeed have utilised) XSP and JSP can be used in the Cocoon pipeline, but I have not found many resources regarding the use of servlets. I believe that I have to create a generator, but the Cocoon 2 API is a bit sparce to say the least :-)
If anyone can provide me with links, info, examles, or just a good kick in the right direction I will be much appreciatve.
Thanks in advance,
Will

As I understand Cocoon it is all abot performance and oriented that all the element do not just generate XML as text but do pipline that generates events, so that system starts processing the document before its end loaded. And servlets knows nothing about pipeline so I think it is not easy to make it integrated in Cocoon.

    You can use the components in the Oracle XDK for Java for this. JDeveloper ships with a version of the Oracle XDK for Java, but the latest release is always at http://otn.oracle.com/tech/xml

  • Post XML to Servlet through JavaScript and reveive info back

    There's a post in this forum before, but anyone know how to do this:
    =========================================
    MSIE5 + will let you post an XML string to a servlet. It must be done from javascript. The same javascript can also receive an xml string back from the servlet, parse it, and update dom objects in the browser, independenty of a an http post.
    You can use this technique to populate ddlb based on events in the browser, or do real-time validations from the database. It works just fine, is quite fast, but is MSIE specific. If another brower is used, you must handle it some other way.
    =========================================
    I will use IE only.
    Any help will be highly appreciated!
    Charles

    Thanks for your response, ddossot!
    I also got something from our Microsoft team, post here to share with others who have interest in this topic. It's interesting to see IE talk with Servlet in XML, especially within a LAN.
    ==============================================================================
    I did find a couple of things. Not sure if it is exactly what you are looking for. Let me know if it works.
    function submitAsXML() {
         var theXML = document.myform.txtInXML.value;
    var xmlhttp = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP");
         var url = document.myform.txtURL.value;
    try {
    xmlhttp.open("POST", url, false);
    } catch(e) {
    xmlhttp.open("POST", url, false);
    xmlhttp.Send(theXML);

    Hello guys! I have been assigned the same task,i.e to generate pdf through xml using xsl stylesheet.
    I have a procedure which is creating the xml and the stylesheet. But I have no idea how to write the procedure which passes this xml to fo engine. I am very new to this. Can anyone please share your thoughts with me so as how to accomplish this? By reading blogs on internet I figured I would have to use UTIL_HTTP but don't know how.

    I was able to get Coccoon 1.8.2 to work with WLS5.1 SP8. I needed to modify
    the
    classpath in the startup script to include ....
    PRE_CLASSPATH=$PRE_CLASSPATH:$THIRDPARTY/cocoon.jar:$THIRDPARTY/fop_0_15_0.j
    ar:$THIRDPARTY/turbine-pool.jar:$THIRDPARTY/w3c.jar:$THIRDPARTY/xalan_1_2_D0
    2.jar:$THIRDPARTY/xerces_1_2.jar:$THIRDPARTY/servlet_2_2.jar:./lib/weblogica
    ux.jar:/usr/java1.2/lib/tools.jar
    where $THIRDPARTY defines the location of the jar files. One of the key
    things was having the servlet_2_2.jar file in the classpath
    as shown above.
    In addition I need to define in the web applications web.xml file to map for
    the
    cocoon servlet...
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>org.apache.cocoon.Cocoon</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.apache.cocoon.Cocoon</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>properties</param-name>
    <param-value>./WEB-INF/cocoon.properties</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>org.apache.cocoon.Cocoon</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>*.xml</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    So each application defines this on a per application basis. You will also
    need to copy the
    cocoon classes to a common location (e.g. serverclasses).
    Good luck.

  • Parsing XML and Storing values in instance variable

    hi,
    i'm new to XML.
    here i'm trying to parse an XML and store their element data to the instance variable.
    in my main method i'm tried to print the instance variable. but it shows "" (ie it print nothing ).
    i know the reason, its becas of the the endElement() event generated and it invokes the characters() and assigns "" to the instance variable.
    my main perspective is to store the element data in instance variable.
    thanks in advance.

    <country>sg</country>
    <telephone>123456</telephone>
    <fax>123155</fax>
    </company>
    </coyprofile_result>

    I believe that the problem has to do with the value you assign to ctelement. You are assigning the value of localName to ctElement, however for the element: <name>...</name> the localname is empty string i.e. "", but qName equals "name". Because you are assigning empty string to ctElement, when you do the comparison in characters of ctElement to "name" it will always be false. So in startElement change it to ctElement = qName; Try it and see if it works. I have produced similar programs and it works for me.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mime-type tag in web.xml and attachment download

    i have set a mime-type in web.xml as below:
    <mime-mapping>
         <extension>xls</extension>
         <mime-type>application/vnd.ms-excel</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    And i have a simple jsp that only shows a table and i am making this jsp to get downloaded as an excel attachment. To make it possible i have written the following line in the JSP:
    response.setHeader( "content-disposition", "attachment; filename=myexcel.xls" );
    But i am not setting the content type first by writing:
    response.setContentType( "application/vnd.ms-excel" );
    since i have already mentioned the appropriate mime-type for excel files in web.xml.
    I am using both mozilla and IE. Both are showing file download dialog. But IE is able to correctly identify the type of the attachment and opens it up with Microsoft Excel whereas mozilla fails to identify the type, assumes it to be an HTML document and opens it up in a new window of IE.
    mozilla works fine only when i set the content type in the JSP itself. But IE works in all conditions even without having the mime-type tag in web.xml.
    If i have already specified the mime-type for particular type of file in web.xml, is there any requirement to set the content type again in the JSP/servlet?
    Please help. I even changed the mime-type for .xls (excel) files in web.xml and made it text/plain, but still the same thing is happening. IE is always showing the correct file type where as mozilla is taking it as an HTML document.
    i am using weblogic server 8.1.

    the web xml mime type setting are for static files served by the server...
    if you print a file directly to the output of the servlet, you must set the mime type, so DO write :
    response.setContentType( "application/vnd.ms-excel" );
    IE "works fine" because it also uses the file extension to decide the mime type... but in the absolute, it's a wrong behaviour

  • JSF, tiles, xml and xsl

    Good days people, I am employed at an app that wants to integrate JSF, tiles, xml and xsl.
    Basically the app receives information of the user's interfaz, builds an url with the above mentioned information and invokes to a service web that a xml returns with the information. The idea is to generate the exit in format html or wml with an insole(staff) xsl and to send the result in this format to every jsp that is going to form a part of the page that it will generate tiles. at first I understand that it is feasible, id like to know if someone already has done it and since it has done it.
    Just now what I have is a managed bean that receives the parameters of the altar frontal and invokes a method of a service, like this:

    Has anybody integrated an XSL parser with Forte. I know Forte provides us
    with an XML parser but that does not help with parsing XSL. There a lot of
    parsers written in JAVA but that will not integrate well with Forte. We
    need something that will be easy to integrate with Forte. This parser will
    take our XML and XSL to give us a result set. If anybody can comment on the
    subject or share some information I would appreciate it.
    thanks in advance.

  • Difference/relationship between XML and XSD

    Hi All,
    Correct me if i am wrong,
    When we create a source and a target datatype in IR automatically objects will be created in XSD.
    The same way it does when we create message type.
    In message mapping, We map source and target message type and when we test with sample data, we can view source and target in xml
    My question is what is the difference/relationship between XML and XSD ?
    Thanks,
    ss

    Hi,
    XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a W3C initiative that allows information and services to be encoded with meaningful structure and semantics that computers and humans can understand. XML is great for information exchange, and can easily be extended to include user-specified and industry-specified tags.
    Whereas
    An XML Schema Definition (XSD) is an instance of an XML schema written in the XML Schema language. An XSD defines a type of XML document in terms of constraints upon what elements and attributes may appear, their relationship to each other, what types of data may be in them, and other things. It can be used with validation software in order to ascertain whether a particular XML document is of that type, and to produce a Post-Schema Validation Infoset.
    I hope this clarifies.
    Regards.

  • Database updation using XML and stored Procedure?

    Hello,
    I want to perform updation in multiple tables using XML files.Please suggest can I do updation using xml and stored procedure.
    If yes then which is more efficient and takes less time.
    1.Updation using xml files only
    2.Updation using xml files with stored procedure.
    3.Stored procedure alone.
    If direct xml and stored procedure communication is possible.then please write how.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Here's a sample. The next code drop of the XSQL Servlet will make the easy-to-do from within XSQL Pages:
    package package1;
    import org.w3c.dom.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
    import oracle.xml.sql.query.OracleXMLQuery;
    public class Class1 extends Object {
    public static void main( String[] arg ) throws Exception {
    Connection conn = getConnection();
    CallableStatement ocs = conn.prepareCall("begin ? := App.HotItems('PAUL'); end;");
    ocs.registerOutParameter(1,OracleTypes.CURSOR);
    ocs.execute();
    ResultSet rs = ((OracleCallableStatement)ocs).getCursor(1);
    OracleXMLQuery oxq = new OracleXMLQuery(conn,rs);
    System.out.println(oxq.getXMLString());
    oxq.close();
    rs.close();
    ocs.close();
    conn.close();
    public static Connection getConnection() throws Exception {
    String username = "scott";
    String password = "tiger";
    String dburl = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:xml";
    String driverClass = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
    Driver d = (Driver)Class.forName(driverClass).newInstance();
    return DriverManager.getConnection(dburl,username,password);
    null

    Has anybody integrated an XSL parser with Forte. I know Forte provides us
    with an XML parser but that does not help with parsing XSL. There a lot of
    parsers written in JAVA but that will not integrate well with Forte. We
    need something that will be easy to integrate with Forte. This parser will
    take our XML and XSL to give us a result set. If anybody can comment on the
    subject or share some information I would appreciate it.
    thanks in advance.

  • Sidecar.xml and horizontal scrolling

    Just followed the documetation and just uploaded a folio with a sidecar.xml file with
    set to never and  set to true. This should have set the articles to Horizontal swipe only but it never. I had to go into the folio producer tools and set it there. Am Idoing something wrong?

    Christian,
    the syntax for using the "horizontal scrolling only" feature in a sidecar
    file is
    it can be "true" and "false".
    You mixed up with the values for smoothscrolling articles, wich can be
    "portrait", "landscape", "always", never.
