Servlets and Apache 1.3.21 ???

I'm really new to servlets and am having problems.
Can I run servlets using Apache HTTP Server 1.3.21 ?
I also have Tomcat 4.0 (on Windows 2000), but I don't know where to put my servlet class files so they can run?
Please help!

create a classes directory under tomcat home, and put your servlets classes.(ex:MyServlet.class)

use http://host:port/servlet/myservlet

Okay,
Tomcat 4.1 running with Apache.
Installed mod_jk, piece of cake.
JSPs run through Apache like a dream.
Tomcat examples ( jsp and servlets) run through Apache perfectly ( that is no :8080 business).
My JSP's run through Apache no problem. Works great.
My SERVLETS WILL NOT RUN THROUGH APACHE FOR ANYTHING.
My context looks like this in server.xml:

Note: that I am not under <TOMCAT_HOME>/webapps.
The reason is that I will, in production not be the Unix admin on the server. I will only have priviledges within my directory. I will not be able to drop war files in the webapps directory. I will not be able
to start and stop tomcat or apache ( there are 100 diffrent apache contexts on that machine and someday many of them will be going through tomcat for jsp and servlet support).
My servlets will only run if I put :8080/nuweb/servlet/HelloServlet in the URL. Take off the 8080 and I get Page not found. Not the tomcat 404 page, the Browswer 404 errror.

In devlopment I am on a system that is very close to what the production server will look like ( Tomcat 4.1 same version of Apache, same Unix ). In development I can restart all the servers edit server.xml etc. On the production I would have to schedule that stuff. I want to be able to compile classes and drop them in the WEB-INF/classes... directory and have them run. Is that too much to ask?

I am also facing same error.
I am not able to view my servlets via apache web server.
ie when i do "http://localhost/enlighta/logon"
I get http 404 page not found error
but when I do http://localhost:8080/enlighta/logon
all works fine
I am using apache 2 and tomcat 4.5

1.I have http server running on port 80
2. appserver on port 8080
3. I have a war file enlighta.war deployed on webserevr
4. The static content like images and html page I have moved to webserver
5. The servlet context of the app on the app server is /enlighta
6. In the web.xml I have defined all the servlet maping.

Proxying servlets and JSPs with apache

We have a couple of servlets within our application, the rest of it
being JSPs.
We are having a problems maintaining the session state across links from
the JSPs to the servlets. It works fine with WL as the web server when
the servlet picks up the same session as the JSPs, but when we are using
the apache bridge, the servlet seems to have a new session.
We are using WL5.1.0 SP6 on solaris.
The JSPs are proxied by extension, and the servlets by location -
everything under the servlet directory being directed to a servlet.
Is there anything we need to do in the configuration to allow this to
work?

I'm using a properties file to let my web application know what the name of the database is. I'm using an abstract class GeneralDao which will be extended by all the DAO's (Data Access Objects or java classes containing SQL statements).
Here's the code :

The gcoConfig.properties file is placed inside the folder C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.0\webapps\gco\WEB-INF\classes
The GeneralDao is placed in the folder C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.0\webapps\gco\WEB-INF\classes\org\gertcuppens\cluifDao.
So this class is placed some folder below the WEB-INF\classes folder of gcoConfig.properties.
And the content of the properties file is just one line :
databaseconnection=jdbc:mysql://localhost/cluif
If you want to let the JSP know what's inside the properties file, wrap the content in a Javabean, put it in the request or even the session and pass the control to the JSP.

          We are developing an application using WebLogic ejb and servlet and we
          are planning to use Apache as the HTTP server. Are there any know
          issues about this combination?
          According to the manual, the mod_proxy of Apache can be used to link
          Apache and Weblogic. Has anybody done that?

Through HTTP this is only possible with a POST request of which the encoding type is set to multipart/form-data. You can use Apache Commons FileUpload to parse such a multipart form data request into useable elements. From the other side (the client) you can use a HTML <input type="file"> element or a Java class with Apache Commons PostMethod API.

Tomcat and apache mod_jk or mod_webapp

Hello,I am using linux and I am running a apache web server and I also use tomcat.
I have upgraded from tomcat 4.0 to 4.1.24 and I am now wanting to use servlets and jsp with apache.I have messed around with servlet etc for awhile now but I wish to use them on my server,which is apache.My question is,do you know of a good website that explains how I can use the mod_jk,mod_jk2 or mod_webapp with apache 2.0 so I can use servlet with apache.I have looked but have not came up with nothing good and the stuff I have found is for older version and I am not sure if I need to use the mod_jk ,mod_jk2 or mod_webapp with the version of apache and tomcat I have.Ps,A good tut page on this would be nice.

"Note" the new tomcat is a pain in the %$# to set up cause you have to uncomment the servlet invoker in the conf/xml file.Older version you did not have to do this cause it was already done for you.So this note is for people that has ever had trouble with setting up the new tomcats cause it was a pain in my @$$ figuring out why the hell the servlet was not working.

i can use example servlets in that directory by accessing localhost/examples/servlets
and click links..(but if i type them in browser address bar, they dont' work either)
what setting am i missing?

Tomcat 4.0 and Apache 2.0.35

I am trying to install mod_jk or mod_webapp.so with Tomcat 4.0 and Apache 2.0.35, running on Windows XP Professional. When I try to start Apache, it fails to see it the new module in the modules/ directory, even though it's most definitely there. Anybody have any thoughts?

The Tomcat 4 has different settings compared to the previous releases (Tomcat 3.3.x and Tomcat 3.2.x). If the previous releases use mod_jk.dll and/or mod_jk.so, the version 4 uses different modules. I have obtained the following from the server.xml file from Tomcat 4.0.3.
The MOD_WEBAPP connector is used to connect Apache 1.3 with Tomcat 4.0
as its servlet container. Please read the README.txt file coming with
the WebApp Module distribution on how to build it.
(Or check out the "jakarta-tomcat-connectors/webapp" CVS repository)
To configure the Apache side, you must ensure that you have the
"ServerName" and "Port" directives defined in "httpd.conf". Then,
lines like these to the bottom of your "httpd.conf" file:

WebAppConnection warpConnection warp localhost:8008
WebAppDeploy examples warpConnection /examples/
The next time you restart Apache (after restarting Tomcat, if needed)

File upload using Servlets and Weblogic

Another, simpler (we think), such package is Jenkov HTTP Multipart File Upload. It's a servlet filter which can work in front of both servlets and JSP's. The servlet filter parses the uploaded file and stores it temporarily on the servers disk. When the servlet or JSP executes afterwards, it can obtain all the information about the file, from the request attributes. There is a decent manual for HTTP Multipart File Upload on the website.
Just search for "Jenkov HTTP Multipart" on Google and you'll find it. HTTP Multipart is free, open source, Apache Licsense.

Cannot connect to database with servlet thru apache http server / vhosts

Hello,
I have an application that works perfectly when Tomcat 5.5 is running stand-alone, but when I run Tomcat and Apache HTTP Server together, I get an error when trying to connect to the database. Servlets are working fine otherwise. Connection pooling is setup and working fine for Tomcat stand-alone. With the Apache server, I'm running Virtual Hosts.
My guess is that I need something in the host block of server.xml about the context.xml where the db resource pool is defined. This is what I have so far in server.xml:

I can connect to the database with Tomcat stand-alone, but not with Tomcat integrated with Apache. I have seen this problem described elsewhere, but no solution has been found.

To run servlets in Apache you need the mod_jk module. But as the previous post, it is better to use Tomcat and putting both, Apache and Tomcat, working together. Tomcat will serve all the java related things, and the Apache, the html, php, etc.

I've solved my own problem. I learned that there was a sp4 (let alone a
sp3) for WLS. Installed that and the problem went away. Sorry for the
