Session backing beans and multiple navigator windows sharing session

Hi let's suppose i have a web and page1, page2 and page3 that should share the backingbean. Normal navigation goes from page 1 to page 2 to page 3.
I do not want a backing bean per page because i need to share data between my pages. The immediate solution is to put this bean in session context and use it in each page. But this has severe drawbacks:
- The backing bean is the same each time I access any page, and I want a new bb to be used each time the user requests for page 1
- When a user has more than one navigator window sharing session, and on each window he is navigating through pages 1 to 3, there can be a big mess because he is accessing to the same bb from both windows.
So I would like to find a solution that permit the user to navigate from both windows as if the windows had its own session.
Any hint?
Thnx

I have a similar problem as described .
I hava one window with enterable fields and when you click on a button it opens another window .Both forms are backed by the same bean .since both forms are nearly the same .
The bean is a managed bean in request scope .
when I fill in the first window with values and click on the link it opens the second but the first windows elements and now empty .
Even though it is in Request scope when the second window is being loaded the bean is re-initialized . I would expect a new intance of this bean to be created for the second window .
This is how I am calling the second window .
<h:commandButton id="newRequestItem" action="#{requestItem.createNewRequestItem}" rendered="#{createActivationRequest.displayCreateLinks}" onclick="openNewPage('NewRequestItem.jsp');"
image="images/show_all.gif" title="new request">
<h:outputText value="new request" styleClass="toolbar-command"></h:outputText>
</h:commandButton>
function openNewPage(url)
     aqcbwin= window.open(url, "newRequestItem","toolbar=no, scrollbars=1");
aqcbwin.moveTo(50, 50);
target="_new";
//target="_blank";
aqcbwin.focus();
any ideas to what is wrong and how I can correct this .
Thanks for your help .

  • Confusion about backing beans and multiple pages

    Hello:
    I'm new to JSF and am confused by several high level and/or design issues surrounding backing beans. The
    application I am working on (not unlike many apps out there, I suspect), is comprised of several forms which
    collect various query parameters and other pages that display the query results via dataTables. Additionally, the
    displayed results have hyper-text enabled content sprinkled throughout in order to allow further "drill-down" to
    greater details about a given result.
    Obviously, the initial forms are backed by a managed bean that has the getters/setters for each of the various
    fields. From a modularization perspective, I'd prefer to have the query execution in a separate class entirely,
    which I can accomplish via delegation or actionListeners. Where I get confused is in the case that one of the
    hyper-text enabled fields needs to invoke yet another query requiring specific values from the original result.
    In this case, how should I design the beans to store the pertinent selection information AND still be able to
    have the resulting 'details' query in a separate class.
    For example, let's assume that I have a form with a simple backing bean to collect initial query params. The user
    fills out the form and clicks on submit. The action field of the <h:commandButton> tag inside the <h:form>
    delegates to a method which performs the query and returns a navigation string to the results display page. The
    results page then uses a <h:dataTable> tag to display the results. However, through the process of displaying the
    results, it will create the hyper-text links as follows:
                        <h:form>
                            <h:commandLink action="viewDetails">
                                <h:inputHidden id="P_ID" value="#{results.id}"/>
                                <h:outputText value="Click here to see details"/>
                            </h:commandLink>
                        </h:form>Notice that the value="#{results.id}" is the key field (in some case I may need more than one) that the subsequent
    details page will need to perform the query. However, this value is stored in the results attribute of the original
    query backing bean. I do NOT want to add yet another level of queries into the same backing bean as I would like
    to keep the original and details query beans separated for maintenance and style reasons. How then, can I get this
    specific value ("#{results.id}") into another backing bean that could be accessed by the subsequent details page
    and query? In general, how does one map a single display element to multiple backing beans (or accomplish the
    effect of having one 'source' bean's value end up in another 'destination' bean's attr? If this is not possible,
    then isn't the details query/page forced to use the same backing bean in order to get the data it needs? If so,
    how can it determine which id was selected in this case?
    I'd appreciate any thoughts, ideas and suggestions here! Is there a better way to design the above in order to
    maintain the separation of logic/control? What is the 'best practice' approach for this sort of stuff?
    Thanks much in advance!

    This is what I have done in the pass
    <h:commandLink action="#{AppAction.getRecord}" >
    <h:outputText value="#{bbr.id}"/>
    <f:param name = "recordid" value ="#{bbr.id}" />
    </h:commandLink>
    within the getRecord method
    String key = "";
    FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
         ServletContext servletContext = ServletContext)facesContext.getExternalContext().getContext();
    key = (String)facesContext.getExternalContext().getRequestParameterMap().get("recordid");
    then call you dbmethod passing in the key of the record the user wants to edit
    and then simply return a string to what page you want the user to go to

  • ADF BC how to access session backing bean value in servlet

    Hi everyone,
    How do I access session backing bean value in a servlet?

    Frank, thanks for your reply.
    I'm not sure how I can incorporate this example into my situation. Let me explain more detail about my problem.
    "servlet" in my post here actually means a custom servlet I wrote for rendering an image that is stored in db as ordimage. In this servlet, I get hold of my appmodule by using Configuation.createRootApplicationModule(). By doing so (If I'm not wrong) a new database session/connection is created. What I'm going to achieve is set application context for this new session/connection in db with the data stored in a session backing bean in the view layer.
    I can pass the required data to the servlet thru url parameter, but I don't want to do it this way for the reason that the data may contains sensitive information.
    I hope I have explained myself well.

  • We should NEVER use the session back bean?

    Because the user can open a new window by right click the link, and the session scope back bean is not thread-safe.
    So we should forget it?

    Your concern makes really no sense, or you must be storing request scoped data in a session scoped bean instead of a request scoped bean, which can indeed lead to undesireable behaviour in multiple requests on the same session.

  • Best way to approach... Wizards and Multiple Browser Windows?

    How have others got / would others get around the following problem?
    I have a 4 page custom-built wizard to collect information about people and then, on the final step, insert that information into my PERSONS table. I use the same 4 pages as an Update wizard as well (I have a hidden item which is set either to 'CREATE' or 'UPDATE' depending on whether the wizard is in CREATE "mode" or UPDATE "mode" which I can then use in conditions to tell the app which process to run.) This works nicely and by using the same 4 pages for both my update and create wizards it means I need half as many pages.
    When a user enters page 1 of the wizard in UPDATE mode, pages 1, 2, 3 and 4 are populated with details of the person record they are updating. They can then change the values they wish, navigate to the end of the wizard with the "Next" button and then save the changes.
    When a user enters page 1 of the wizard in CREATE mode, I clear the cache for pages 1, 2, 3 and 4. The user can then navigate through the pages using the Next button and then click "Save" to save the new person (perform the INSERT into the DB).
    The problem comes when the user is half way through an update wizard and then, for some reason known only to the user, decides to open a new browser tab/window and start a Create Wizard in this new tab. Starting the Create Wizard has the effect of clearing the cache for the 4 pages which is an issue for when the user goes back to his other tab and tries to continue with the Update Wizard he was half way through (because all the items will have been NULLed). This problem occurs essentially whenever the user initiates one wizard (CREATE or UPDATE) when he is already half way through another one: One of the wizards is always going to get "messed up".
    I would be interested to hear how others have dealt with this problem in the past? Somehow limit the user to having one Wizard open at a time? Or something else?
    All/any comments/thoughts/suggestions much appreciated,
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hello,
    Well the easiest way around it is user education. Just put an information blurb on the right that says.
    >>
    Running this wizard in multiple browser windows or tabs will/could cause malformed data to be saved.
    >>
    Just like when you do online credit card transactions and they tell you not to click twice or you get charged twice.
    The problem is that the same browser , if in different windows or different tabs, will share the same session.
    You could maybe store all your information in a collection or something and not save or clear cache till the end, but that seems like overkill, just put some text in there that says don't do this!

  • Action method of backing bean called multiple times instead of once.

    Hi,
    My backing bean has an action method called "saveEquipmentList" that's called when a "Save" button is clicked. The problem is, this method gets executed twice every time the button is clicked so data gets peristed twice, db triggers get executed twice, etc., it's really pretty annoying. I've put the bean method's code and the JSF command button below, notice that there's a check for FacesContext.getRenderResponse() that I put in for debugging, the code doesn't get executed at all if I leave the FacesContext.getRenderResponse() in, sure, you're saying "So what's you point", no point, just thought I'd explain why the check is in there.
    Thanks,
    Alex

    updateEquipCodesMap(); // Updates total for objcode/type to sum of equipment items for that objcode/type.

    loadEquipmentCodesMap();

  • Browser Back Button and form navigation

    Some times when you use browser back button and adf-taskflow navigation buttons, validation on form fails, witout having made any change even with enabled token validation.
    Reproduction steps on HR schema:
    1. Create QueryDepartment and EditDepartment Views and navigation rules in adfc-config.xml
    2 Create ADF view only table page for QueryDepartment selectable, and add navigation button to go to EditDepartment
    3. Create EditDepartment form with navigation buttons and button to navigate back to QueryDepartment
    test:
    1.Run QueryDepartment and select a department
    2.Go to Edit Department using navigation button
    3.Navigate to next department pressing the 'Next' button
    4.Navigate back using the Browser Back button.
    5.Try to navigate back to QueryDepartment using the navigation button.
    My result is validation error on DepartmentId field 'Error: JBO-25013: '
    Is this a bug or am i doing something wrong?

    Hi,
    maybe I don't get it, but as I understood you have problem with focus on select button. So why don’t you set focus onLoad on another element of your page?
    Something like onload=”$x(‘ELEMENT_NAME’).focus()”;

  • Can I use the same class as a page backing bean and a lifecycle listener

    Hi everyone
    I have code in a backing bean that executes as a value change listener. What I want to do is have this code execute on first page load. So what I am asking is:
    if I implement the PagePhaseListener interface on the backing bean class, will I be able to access the #{bindings} object during the beforePhase() and afterPhase() methods.
    Thanks in advance
    Thanassis

    Hi,
    yes, and it is documented here

  • Bring back VISUAL and STRUCTURED NAVIGATION

    Please, bring back complete visual navigation from Windows 7,
    e.g. visible window border - for resizing,
    panel borders and distinct panel backgrounds for different parts of window,
    etc.
    Please, bring back full functionality of Start menu from Windows 7,
    especially customizable structured navigation for All Programs.
    vjj

    I agree - having visible window borders make Windows 10 MUCH more usable.  It's not reasonable to expect to resize a window from OUTSIDE that window.

  • Latest security update stole my back button and my "new window"

    I am unable to go back a page because the back button that was in the upper right corner is not longer there. I have to close out completely to go back one page. I have a place called "New Window" but the area where for years I have typed in a URL is no longer there and there is no way to type anything without going to "Open a Location" which works but of course I still can not go back.

    Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Windows)
    * If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
    * If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

  • TS4097 we have multiple users in our family and multiple devices all sharing one itunes account.  i think we are all synced to one icloud account and it is a nightmare....contacts lost, text messags showing up on multiple devises etc.  how do we fix this?

    We have our family sharing one itunes account.  we have 3 iphones, 2 macbook airs, 2 ipads and 1 mac.  I am not sure how we even got started on the icloud but somehow we did and everything is a mess.  The ipads are showing the text messages, the contacts are all combined, the apps that my duaghter downloads are appearing on all devices.  how do we fix this so contacts are not shared, messages are not shared and apps are not automatically synced to all devises?

    You have two different issues going on.  You are getting each other's messages because you are sharing the Same Apple ID for iMessage.  This can be corrected by going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive on add the devices and doing one of the following:
    Either uncheck the email address shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at" on all of your devices; or
    If you want to continue to receive iMessages at this email address on one of your devices, on all of the other ones tap the Apple ID at the top, sign out, then sign back in using a different Apple ID (so all devices will be using a different Apple ID for iMessage).  Note: you can continue to share an Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores.  It does not need to be the same as the ID you are using for iMessage, FaceTime and other services.
    The second issue is that you are sharing the same iCloud account on your devices.  When you do this any data you sync with the shared iCloud account such as contacts is merged and will appear on all devices connected to the account.  To fix this you both need to have separate iCloud accounts (you can continue to share the same Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and app stores).
    First decide which device(s) will be keeping the current iCloud account.  On the one(s) that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else that you want to keep on the device(s), save these to the camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.
    Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this device, not from iCloud.  The device(s) that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On [iDevice].  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a separate Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.  Repeat this process for all the devices that you need to migrate to new accounts.
    When finished, to un-merge the data in your accounts you will have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting the other person's contacts from your account, and vice versa).

  • CMP Entity Beans and multiple tables

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to have a CMP Entity Bean retrieve attributes from multiple tables
    (using table join), and populate attributes from columns in both tables?
    If yes, how do we configure the same in configuration xml files.
    Is there any special handling required for this in the bean itself?
    Thanks,

  • I downloaded the new update, 3.6.7, came back later and a new window with installation wizard popped up. Do I really need to do this as it seems it is already installed?

    I was having so many problems with Firefox crashing and it seems like when I downloaded 3.6.7 and executed it that it resolved the issues. Then an installation wizard window appeared about an hour later asking me to install. Do I really need to do this? I am terrified of it crashing again....

  • LR4b1 suddenly becomes very slow and multiplies "Bezel" windows

    Usually it happens after lens distortions correction. Each next adjustment takes up to a minute to update. And it constantly shows and hides two additional windows called “Bezel”, one with video controls and one with a current shot info.
    I have no video in catalog.
    Windows7 sp1 x64, Core it-920, 12 Gb RAM
    P. S. I hoped the first task for a next version would be its speed, not new functions, least of all it had to be video. It would be fine, if it was shipped as an optional plugin.

    I have just downloaded LR4B1 for the first time and all Develop adjustments are very slow from outset. Opened LR3 and operation is smooth and instant.

  • Sharing backing beans across sessions

    HI,
    After doing some simple investigations I could see that different sessions were using the same backing bean instance.
    I was wondering is there any way you can configure in the JSF framework to use their own instance of the backing bean?
    Thanks.

    Declare them as session- scoped, e.g.@SessionScoped.
