Session lost problem in Weblogic cluster and Iplanet proxy

We have an environment like this
          Iplanet 4.1--> Two Weblogic servers.(WLS 6.1 sp1)
The Weblogic servers are not really clusterd, but we are using the Weblogic Cluster
attribute in the obj.conf to configure the proxy (The Weblogic servers are really
independant servers with the same application deployed).
This is working fine in our development environment. No problem with session and
load balancing. Although this architecture is not documented in Weblogic docs,
I have seen several references to this type of architecture in the web and it
          seems to be working.
Now we are into our pre-production environment. The same archictecture exists.
          Only the following differences
          1. Both the weblogic servers run on multihomed machines. We have bound the Weblogic
servers to specific IP addresses using the Listen address option.
          2. The same IP addresses are there in the proxy plug-in conf file.
          3. There is a firewall between the Iplanet and Weblogic.
Now if only one weblogic is running, the application works fine. The moment we
turn the other weblogic on, the application starts misbehaving. The session seems
to get lost and proxy forwards requests randomly.
          What could be the reason?
          Regards
          Anup

          Hi
The problem got solved. There was an older version of libproxy.so in the Iplanet
          proxy

  • Session Stickness problem on weblogic load balancer

    Hello All
I having trouble related to session stickiness for weblogic load balancing, am using httpclusterservlet on a proxy server that forward requests to 3 managed server that are members of the same cluster.
I tried to search for a solution to this problem and I found two links that are talking about the same problem but there are still not answered!!.
    Here are the links:
    https://forums.oracle.com/message/11158966#11158966
    https://forums.oracle.com/message/11158964#11158964
Based on oracle link Using Sessions and Session Persistence, the documentation says under the "HTTP Session Properties" section that there is a change in how the sessions are formatted and this might cause a problem
for some load balancers (the documentation did not say if weblogic httpclusterservlet is one of them), I tried to do the suggested workaround and I got "java.lang.IllegalStateException: Response already committed" error same as what happens with the user in link https://forums.oracle.com/message/11158966#11158966.
Does anyone knows how to fix this??, I search for a very long time on this problem and with no luck, please help!

    Hi,
Can you please give me some more information about your setup ...
    Something like ...
F5/LB --> Apache or OHS --> WebLogic Cluster..
If you are using F5/OHS directly to WebLogic cluster you can try enabling the session persistence and this problem should go away..
If you are using plain Apache or OHS try putting "DynamicServerList" off.
Let me know something more about setup so that i can contribute to help ..thanks.

  • Starting weblogic cluster and admin server on Win 2000 platform

    Hi! Here's my problem scenario:
I'm running my WLS 8.1 application as WLS cluster on Win 2000 platform. I have
3 replicated WLS servers in my cluster and of course one WLS server as admin server
(4 WLS servers all together). I'm starting my WLS application using Win services
which behind a scene call win 2000 comand interpreter batch-file to start the
servers. Currently I have 4 different win 2000 services each calling different
batch-files to start a WLS server (4 all together). Here's my question:
Is there any way to start my cluster (3 managed WLS servers) and WLS admin server
from single win 2000 command file (using single win 2000 service). Using win 2000
AT-command interpreter command I can start executables and command(s) and command-files
at background at specific date and time, but I want to start my WLS application
on every win 2000 platform boot, is there any way to achieve this ???
    Best Regards!

    hi,
    Thanks for stepping up!
But I wasn't using any clustering or loadbalancing.
Just a simple Admin server, Managed server set up.
256 Meg, Pentium box running Win 2000 premium edition.
I tried tweeking around the heap size too.... coz' the operations were slogging
    like anything...

    hi,
I am looking at a strange behaviour with WLS6.0SP1 installed on WINDOWS2000 Premium.
I brought up the Admin server and a Managed server. After a while theAdmin Server
    is compeletely
losing the control of the managed server (for no reason).
when I tried monitoring the managed server from the console, I couldnot
    access
    the manager server
and the status down (red ball). I tried restarting the Admin Server
in the discover mode - NO LUCK.
But when I restart the Managed server and go to the Web Based Admin
Console and refresh, it worked. But I dont think we should be doingthat
    in a
    production environment.
Did anybody come across such a problem before ???
Is this a problem with Win 2000 ???
coz' it never happened with NT workstation
    thanks in advance

  • Weblogic cluster and routers

Is it possible to setup a WLS cluster having two WLS boxes seperated by
              switches/routers ?
              - Bhupi

Yes. you have to set you weblogic.cluster.multicastTTL greater than 1 in
order to let multicast packages pass routers.
However, it is not a good practice to set your cluster across LAN.
              Cheers - Wei

              Hi John,
              How's tricks?
It looks to me as though the olbcluster JNDI reference isn't being resolved from
the tree. A similar error results when a Connection Pool cannot be resolved, the
JNDI context env.jdbc is resolved but the particlar pool isn't. In my experience
it often turns out to be an error in the correlation between the deployment descriptors,
settings applied via the console and references made in the code.
              That's my tuppence worth,
              James :-)

  • JNDI replication problems in WebLogic cluster.

I need to implement a replicable property in the cluster: each server could
update it and new value should be available for all cluster. I tried to bind
this property to JNDI and got several problems:
    1) On each rebinding I got error messages:
    <Nov 12, 2001 8:30:08 PM PST> <Error> <Cluster> <Conflict start: You tried
to bind an object under the name example.TestName in the jndi tree. The
object you have bound java.util.Date from 10.1.8.114 is non clusterable and
you have tried to bind more than once from two or more servers. Such objects
can only deployed from one server.>
    <Nov 12, 2001 8:30:18 PM PST> <Error> <Cluster> <Conflict Resolved:
example.TestName for the object java.util.Date from 10.1.9.250 under the
bind name example.TestName in the jndi tree.>
As I understand this is a designed behavior for non-RMI objects. Am I
    correct?
    2) Replication is still done, but I got randomly results: I bind object to
server 1, get it from server 2 and they are not always the same even with
delay between operation in several seconds (tested with 0-10 sec.) and while
it lookup returns old version after 10 sec, second attempt without delay
    could return correct result.
Any ideas how to ensure correct replication? I need lookup to return the
object I bound on different sever.
    3) Even when lookup returns correct result, Admin Console in
Server->Monitoring-> JNDI Tree shows an error for bound object:
    Exception
javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Unable to resolve example. Resolved: ''
    Unresolved:'example' ; remaining name ''
My configuration: admin server + 3 managed servers in a cluster.
JNDI bind and lookup is done from stateless session bean. Session is
clusterable and deployed to all servers in cluster. Client invokes session
methods throw t3 protocol directly on servers.
    Thank you for any help.

It is not a good idea to use JNDI to replicate application data. Did you consider
using JMS for this? Or JavaGroups (http://sourceforge.net/projects/javagroups/) -
there is an example of distibuted hashtable in examples.

  • CIAC-CPSC Portal Session cookie problem on weblogic

    Hi all,
I´m currently working on a CIAC project with some development made by a partner, the thing is they are using a cookie generated by the application server called “Cognoscookie”, with that they use the session ID to run some queries from a portlet.
The problem is in the customer weblogic, this cookie is not being generated, I tried on a demo environment over JBOSS and it is being generated.
Anyone with some weblogic experience have an idea on what is happening?
I know it is pretty specific question, but you never know if you don’´t ask
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex.

Ok, got it, seems that the Cognos cookie is generated on those installs where the reporting components are installed together with the Portal, so in this case those components where missing, and the cookies too.
Thanks a lot for the help.

  • Problem using Weblogic 6 and Weblogic 8.1 thin clients from same applicatio

We are developing a application where we require to communicate with 2 different ?Webogic Servers? running different versions.
First server is ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? and the other is ?Weblogic 8.1?. We use Weblogic thin client jars to connect to these servers. Protocol used to connect to ?Weblogic 8.1? is t3 and for ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? its t3s. But the obvious problem is that both thin client can not be used simultaneously in the same class-path. Whichever jar file appears first in the class-path, classes will be loaded from that jar. This is causing breakage in our application. If we put ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? thin client jar first in the path, our application throws exception while connecting to ?Weblogic 8.1? and if we put ?Weblogic 8.1? jar first the path, ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? won?t connect. Is there a workaround to handle this problem. We have admin level access to Weblogic 8.1 which mean we can change the configuration here if required but we have only user level access to ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? and can?t do any modification in server config.
    Exceptions:
Case 1: ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7? thin client jar first in class-path.
Result : connects successfully with ?Weblogic 6.1 SP7?.
throws following exception while connecting to ?Weblogic 8.1?.

The thin-client isn't supported on 6.1, I'm not sure what you are doing.

  • Weblogic Cluster and Perfoemance Reduction

              Hi All,
Is there a performance reduction caused by using Weblogic Clustering?
I am experiencing much slower performance in my clustered
environment compared to my non-clustered environment. They
are both running WLS 5.1 sp6 on Solaris. (Clustered is using
              Apache proxy.) Is this normal?
If this is normal, can someone explain to me the reasons why
              performance is affected by clustering?
              Thank you very much.

This should not be the case. I would encourage you to get someone at BEA
involved if you get into a situation where you are experiencing dramatic
performance degradation when switching to a clustered environment.
One common thing that causes performance degradation in a cluster is using a
single proxy server (with our plugin). In most cases, I have found that the
proxy is the bottleneck and you usually need more proxy servers than application
servers to be able to push the application servers to full utilization.
              Hope this helps,
              Robert

  • Weblogic cluster for 24x7 environment and a front OHS server

    Hi experts,
We are going to set up a reliable J2EE application server environment by using clustering webgoic servers on TWO nodes, and a front OHS https server in DMZ for load balancing.
I am new to weblogic cluster and load balance by OHS. I have visited this forum for Fusion MiddleWare clustering etc. Can some experts share some light on this?
Will our deployment architecture be able to handle the J2EE applications failover? In other word, we can restart one of Weblogic Managed Servers when a new release of J2EE codes are re-deployed without impacting business end users’s usage?
    Problems we want to solve:
    1. All J2EE applications are available for 24x7 even when new J2EE codes are released and deployed on weblogic Managed Servers ANY TIME, side-by-side deployment and restart a managed server if we need to clean the HTTP cache.
    2. The J2EE applications should be accessed by external and internal users with a Single Access Point, like
    https://apps.company1.com/j2ee1
    https://apps.company2.com/j2ee1
    https://apps.company1.com/j2ee2
    https://apps.company2.com/j2ee2
All J2EE applications (j2ee1, j2ee2, j2ee3 etc) should be deployed on both of weblogic Servers in a cluster, and pointing to a SAME backend database.
Can some experts share with us the best practices on components and configurations? Thanks.

Seems your architecture is like Browser => OHS ( DMZ ) => Weblogic => DB OR Browser => HLB( like bigip ) => OHS ( DMZ ) => Weblogic => DB
Cluster is the solution for load balancing however if you are using OHS for redirection to weblogic then OHS does the load balancing in round robin way. using cluster in this way has a benefit of in case of any one of your managed server is down the OHS will divert connection request to any one of the active managed server ( you have to turn on dynamic list on at OHS ).
    http://weblogicserveradministration.blogspot.com/2010/10/load-balancing-in-weblogic-server.html
Failover is something different, if in case any of the any managed server goes down then your user you get the application session from another server but new one, means the the tasks not saved by the users on earlier session will lost. for that yo need to use cluster and then need to enable the session replication. another best option is you can use the coherence web if you are using latest versions of weblogic supporting coherence web. with that you not need to worry on user sessions and you can start any of the managed server anytime without worrying about the user sessions.
    http://weblogicserveradministration.blogspot.com/2010/10/manage-http-session-states-session.html
    http://weblogicserveradministration.blogspot.com/2011/05/oracle-coherence-37-coherenceweb.html
    http://weblogicserveradministration.blogspot.com/2010/11/clustering-part-i.html
another way is, you can use side by side deployment feature in case you don't want shutdown your application completely, with this, old connections and new requests will goes to old application and once new application activated all new requests will come to new application and once all requests on old application will complete that application will retire automatically.

  • Apache Proxy Plugin with SSL in Weblogic Cluster

    Hi,
I have configured a weblogic cluster and configured SSL. Then I configured the apache plugin to work with the cluster machines with non ssl and worked succesfull but when I configured the ssl communication between apache and weblogic I´m having problems.
    The actual configuration is:
    <Location /spmlws>
    SetHandler weblogic-handler
    WLLogFile /var/log/httpd/tmpweblogic1.log
    DebugConfigInfo ON
    Debug ALL
    KeepAliveEnabled ON
    KeepAliveSecs 15
    WebLogicPort 7002
    SecureProxy ON
    TrustedCAFile /opt/freeware/etc/httpd/conf/trustedCA35cert.pem
    TrustedCAFile /opt/freeware/etc/httpd/conf/trustedCA36cert.pem
    WLProxySSL ON
    RequireSSLHostMatch false
    WebLogicCluster machine35:7002,machine36:7002
    EnforceBasicConstraints false
    </Location>
The problem is that the plugin always takes the last TrustedCAFile. In this way if machine36 is down the plugin tries to send all the request to machine35 but it takes the TrustedCAFile for the machine36 (/opt/freeware/etc/httpd/conf/trustedCA36cert.pem) hence the apache complains
    [Wed Jun 30 11:13:56 2010] [error] [client 10.19.232.249] ap_proxy: trying GET /spmlws/OIMProvisioning at backend host '10.19.232.97/7002; got exception 'WRITE_ERROR_TO_SERVER [os error=0,  line 796 of ../nsapi/URL.cpp]: '
What can I do to have multiple TrustedCAFile or to have working the communication between apache and weblogic cluster using SSL?
    thanks in advance

Acording to the documentation this is not possible.
One way to achieve the load balancing of n-weblogic servers in cluster using ssl is to configure de HttpClusterServlet.

  • Who takes care of load balancing work in weblogic cluster ?

    Hi Folks,
How load balancing is handled internally by weblogic cluster ? Does Admin server takes care of cluster load balancing ? According to me Admin has nothing to do with load balancing in cluster . Manage server continue to run even when Admin server is down.
I am not looking for explanation about different load balancing algorithm. I am interested in who executes those algorithms in weblogic cluster and how .
    Cheers
    B.

    Hi,
You need to configure loadbalancer and there are different ways to do this. Please go through the below thread to user Apache Loadbalancer.

  • Problems running Weblogic 6.1 Server on Pentium 4 with Windows XP

    Hi everyone.
I've got a problem. I'm trying to run Weblogic 6.1 Server on Pentium 4 with Windows
XP as OS, and when I try to work with the console the system restarts and get
an error message in which I can read something like "big error on the system".
Does anybody know if there is any problem between WebLogic Server and Pentium

    Thank you

We're you ever able to install WLS 6.1 sp4 in XP in a working fashion?
WLS 6.1 sp3 works just fine on XP.

I had a problem installing WebLogic6.1SP4 on Windows XP.
SP3 was OK. The problem seems to be in the installer.
When I ran the installer, I saw these weird behaviors:
    - The default value of BEA Home was "\\bea" (should be "C:\bea").
    - The dialog for inputting system password was skipped.
    - After the installer "finished", some directories like
    C:\bea\jdk131, C:\bea\wlserver6.1\bin were missing.
OTOH, "C:\BEA WebLogic E-Business Platform" was created.
    - In the control panel, add/remove program section, the
entry for WebLogic6.1SP4 was not created.
The installer runs fine on Windows 2000. And I copied
the installed files to my Windows XP machine, and I ran
startWebLogic.cmd in myserver directory, it seems OK.

  • Weblogic 7.0 sp1 cluster - session replication problem

    Hi,
I have installed Weblogic 7.0 sp2 on Win NT. To test clustering
feature, I have installed one admin server and added two managed
servers. All are running on same box. I could deploy web application
to the cluster. Connection pools and every other resource is working
well with the cluster. However I couldn't get session replication to
work. I have modified web app descriptor, and set 'persistent store
              type' to "replicated".
I accessed application from one managed server, in the middle of
session I modified the port number in the URL to point to other
managed server. It looks like second managed server has no idea of
that session, my app fails because of this.
Could you please help me out in this, Do I need to do any thing in
addition to the above. I couldn't find much in the BEA manual..
              Thanks
              Rao

For Web application like servlets/JSP, it is better to put one web server as proxy
plugin before your two managed servers and access your application through web
proxy. (You need set session as in-memory replicated either in weblogic.xml or
by console editor). Otherwise, you need record the session cookie from the first
serevr and send the cookie to the second server (not sure if it works). To access
EJB/JMS, use cluster URL like t3://server1:port1,server2:port2.
