Session Sharing between Webapps

          Hi everybody,
          I have read that session sharing between webapps is possible since Wls 6.1 using
          the same name
          for a cookie in the webapps.
          I have created a webapp named myPortal (for example) and a second named Navigation.
          The first webapp
          includes content of the second webapp
          After deploying the webapps in WLS and printing out the sessionid in each of the
          webapps, I found out
          that unfortionally the sessionid in the two webapps are not identical.
          My Question is: Is session sharing possible, or should I create a workaround?
          Here is my environment:
          WLS 6.1 on SUN running in developmentmode
          two webapps, deployed as .war file and/or as .ear file
          Cookie Name is configured to be identical in the two .war Files
          Regards,

Search this newsgroup for a reply post on this by me. I incorrectly went down the
          primrose path on this one, too. I was corrected by Cameron Purdy. I did a bunch of
          impirical research on this and came to the same conclusion you have come to. The spec
          doesn't require it and, in fact, says that separate webapps have separate contexts, so
          they don't share sessions, even if the cookie is the same name.

  • Session Sharing between Portal and Baja servlet(UIX)

    Hi guys,
    I'm having real trouble trying to share a portal session with an external servlet session, in order to enable some file upload functionality. I found an older post (Re: cannot do a select on a table which mentioned a couple of pre-reqs for doing this, but they don't seem to work. I've enabled the the "Same Cookie Domain" checkbox. On checking the cookie values generated by portal, i noticed that none of them have a domain value:
    Cookie name :ORA_DG2 cookie//domain : null//cooki val :mrlMP%2F8%2FMP%2F8
    Cookie name :ORA_UCM_VER//cookie domain : null//cookie val :%2FMP%2F8pgqfg%2Cl_w_p%3Emp_ajc%2CamkMP%2F8neode*j%5Du%5Dn%3Ckn%5D_ha*_kiMP%2F80.3%2C005%2C21%2C%2F1MP%2F8.%2C1*..3*0%2F*-%2F
    I tried setting my own cookie, but when I forward the request from portal to my (external) UIX servlet, a new session is created and all cookies are lost.
    Dev env: ias102222, Jserv, with Portal 3.0.9.8
    Any help will be much appreciated, I'm pretty much stuck on this one. The old post also mentioned a document to read (" See documents on session handling and Integrating Password Protected Applications into Oracle Portal - downloadable from portalstudio.oracle.com. "), but I've spent quite some time looking around on portalstudio, and haven't found it.
    thanks,

    Hi,
    As you suggested, I took the issue up with the Cabo team, and the conclusion seems to be that either it may be a jserv bug, or something to do with JPDK. the UIX redirection code simply uses HttpServletResponse.sendRedirectURL()) for doing its work.
    Sorry about the long post, thought I'd give some more info about what i'm seeing. I hope I'm doing everythng that is needed for session mgmt in PDK. I've got the "Once Per Session" box and "Same Cookie Domain" boxes checked. This is what the jserv.log looks like :
    [01/05/2002 15:59:36:093 PDT] oracle.osf.UixServlet/Event = null
    [01/05/2002 15:59:36:093 PDT] oracle.osf.UixServlet/Parameter portalid=24935
    [01/05/2002 15:59:36:109 PDT] oracle.osf.UixServlet/Parameter [email protected]
    I assume that the 'oracle.osf.UixServlet' above indicates the servlet zone, in which case the portlet UIX and the second UIX are both in the same zone. One thing i notice is that the domain cookie is always null. do it need to be explicitly set in order to have the correct value?
    Here's the log from the time the first page is accessed, to the stuff printed out during the redirect. Note that 'sessid' changes after the redirect(revelent lines below are marked between '------'):

  • Session sharing between war files ???

              It seems that web-apps run in their own context, eg. are loaded by
              seperate classloaders. This means that a user will be prompted to log on
              to each web-app.
              Is it possible to share a session (eg. have a single login) for multiple
              web-apps (war-files) ???
              /Peter Reetz - Kapow

    A Web Session is defined for a Servlet Context. The Javadoc for HttpSession says the following:
    "Session information is scoped only to the current web application (ServletContext), so information stored in one context will not be directly visible in another."
    So, session is designed to work that way. You should be having separate web applications since you said you have separate JVM's. So, to workaround this, you can use a database to store session objects based on the session id of a user thus maintaining unique and proper data for each user. This will make the application a little slower compared to inmemory solution, but will make sure that proper data is served in a clustered environment too since session data is stored in the database and each bean/object do not maintain any state as such so that more number of users can also be supported. This will return proper data in case the user gets to a different app server in the cluster for high-availability and also as fail-safe.
    We implement this in our application that uses a cluster of 4 app-servers as it has many applications and has to support large number of concurrent users using any of these applications with a single sign-on.
    Amar.

  • Context session sharing

    Researching a lot in this topic, I found out various ways to share session information between differentes contexts in a Tomcat 5 Container, including files pseudo-sessions, URL rewriting, and even an context configured in Tomcat with a shared option set to true.
    The URL rewriting sounds the simplest solution, but I could'nt make it work. Even adding the ;jsessionid=key in the URL, the session doens't existis in the another context, what conforms to the documentation I'd read.
    So, how is possible to share a session between diferents contexts using URL rewriting? Or, the cleanest way to share a login made by an user in a context for all others context's?

    Sharing session context between WebApp is not possible with OC4J including OC4J 10.1.2.x. (I didn't test with the new OC4J 10.1.3)
    According Servlet Spec 2.3 (SRV.7.3 Session Scope):
    HttpSession objects must be scoped at the application (or servlet context)level.
    Some Application Servers implement this non compliant feature but I think this is a really bad practice (but sometimes usefull)

  • Load balancing and session sharing

    Hi,
    in my company we have the following situation:
    We have 2 instances of the same web application on differend servers.
    An external load balancer (Alteon) routes the requests to these instances.
    The problem:
    If one instance is shutting down, all the sessions of this app are gone. These users has to login again.
    The question:
    Is it possible to avoid this?
    Is is possible to keep these session, so the users don't have to login again?
    Maybe with a kind of session sharing between these 2 instances?
    using:
    oc4j standalone - 10.1.3.1
    OS: Windows
    thank you
    Marcus

    The solution:
    Multicast IP replication is the default replication protocol used in a standalone OC4J installation

  • EJB 3.0 Stateful session bean shared between Servlet's

    Hello
    I have a bit of a noob question regarding Stateful sessions beans.
    I am wanting to know if there is a way that I can share an instance of a session bean between multiple HttpServlet instances?
    I am sending XML messages from a mobile J2ME application, there will be several http POST's made from the mobile client to the server. I would like these multiple POST's to be passed from the handling servlet instance to the same uniquely identified single stateful session bean instance (i can then @Remove the stateful bean when I have finished my several requests).
    I would greatly appreciate any tips anyone could give me.

    If not, your only option is to maintain the
    association yourself by creating a unique id for
    each
    conversation and storing that id along with the SFSB
    reference in the ServletContext. Then you'll
    need to pass the id in along with each invocation to
    retrieve the appropriate SFSB reference.Thanks for your reply.
    Will I always be presented with the same ServletContext instance? Even if the time between requests might be many minutes? Where can I learn more about how to use the ServletContext?
    Thanks!

  • "Sharing" a stateful session bean between two servlets, beans

    Hello!
    I just started to learn some java ee programming and was wondering how i would share one stateful session bean between two servlets.
    I created the bean with @Stateful.
    I tried to inject the stateful bean in both servlets by @EJB and i can manipulate the object, but each servlet seems to have its own object.
    The bean has a remote interface that it implements.
    What i also tried was to add the mappedName to the @Stateful expression. Something like: @Stateful(mappedName="name") and to use the bean by @EJB(mappedName="name") but it had no effect.
    Im using glassfish 2.1 with netbeans 6.7.1 as my environment (standard settings)
    dummy question, but i googled like hours and couldnt find anything : \
    hope someone can help and sorry for my bad english
    greets and thanks

    Hi there!
    I think you are searching for something like an application wide singleton. There is the possibility to define such one in the Glassfish admin console.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can we share session information between browser and WebView

    Hi
    I have a web application which launches a instance of JavaFX web view on a click of a button. My issue is that when i launch this web view it creates a  new session of its own ,how can you transfer the session information of the parent (browser) to the web view.
    One of the solution i found was to add the JSESSION_ID cookie into the default(System-wide) cookie handler so it would override the existing cookie within the WebView cookiehandler.
    http headers - Setting a cookie using JavaFX's WebEngine/WebView - Stack Overflow
    Are there any other solution for sharing session information between the web view instance and browser that launches it ?

    O.K. then, is it at least possible to access a wwsto_api_session
    from Java in the following way?
    Calling PL/SQL from Java
    JDBC and SQLJ allow you to call PL/SQL stored functions and
    procedures. For example, suppose you want to call the following
    stored function, which returns
    the balance of a specified bank account:
    FUNCTION balance (acct_id NUMBER) RETURN NUMBER IS
    acct_bal NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    SELECT bal INTO acct_bal FROM accts
    WHERE acct_no = acct_id;
    RETURN acct_bal;
    END;
    From a JDBC program, your call to the function balance might look
    like this:
    CallableStatement cstmt = conn.prepareCall("{? = CALL balance(?)}");
    cstmt.registerOutParameter(1, Types.FLOAT);
    cstmt.setInt(2, acctNo);
    cstmt.executeUpdate();
    float acctBal = cstmt.getFloat(1);

  • Any issues with file sharing between Windows and latest Mac client?

    We're running Lync 2013. My Windows client is 15.0.4551.1005. Mac client is version 14.0.8.
    I open a conversation with a coworker on his Mac. I then try to share a png file. He clicks accept but then my client says the attempt timed out, and his client says that I canceled the file transfer. The coworker then boots the Mac into Windows and we try
    again, and the file share works fine. When I jump on my Mac, I can send files to his Mac without issue. When he tries to send from his Mac to my PC it fails, but when he tries to send from Windows on his Mac to my PC, it works.
    I can't find anything specific in the logs that would indicate a firewall issue. Is there a bug with file sharing between the Mac and PC clients?
    Thanks,

    No, There isn't a bug with file sharing between Mac and Pc client.

    Hi,
    You can enable session sharing by adding the following to the <tt>weblogic-application.xml</tt> descriptor:
    <session-descriptor>
      <persistent-store-type>memory</persistent-store-type>
      <sharing-enabled>true</sharing-enabled>

    thanks Frank,
    My shared view object may be updatable. if am in one task flow there i will modify one column in VO then navagate to other task flow, there based on previous modified column i will change another column data and send to entity to update that data to DB. in case of view updation i didn't require any transaction change also like making dirty and undirty.
    you mean i need to set the AM in Application scope or session scope in project properties correct? even if am setting the AM in session or application scope when am running the application for diffrent task flows with begin New transaction my preparesession method at AM level is getting invoked for every task flow so the transaction is new correct? so data also not getting shared between task flows even am giving the session or application scope for AM.
    Reg,

  • How can I use home sharing between our iphones (create playlists from both accounts at once)

    How can I use home sharing between our iphones, so that we can create playlists with songs from both of our libraries?  We share a Macbook Pro (separate accounts) and each have the new iphone, but when I have my iphone and try to create a new playlist, I can only grab songs from one account.  Is there a way to create a playlist using both accounts since we are sharing?
    Does it have to be created within iTunes first on our Mac?

    The short answer: because Home Sharing isn't designed for sharing apps, and apps aren't designed to be shared.
    The longer answer:  Think of it like this...
    You download some music in iTunes.  With Home Sharing, another user can listen to it by streaming it over the network.  But the data itself is on your computer.  If you turn off the computer or take it off the network, the other user can't access it.
    But if you send another user the app, they aren't just streaming the data- they installed it on their iOS device.  Because they weren't the one that purchased it, such a transfer could easily be considered "piracy" or "stealing," and nobody likes that (least of all, Apple).
    When iTunes sees this app, it obviously recognized it, as if saying, "Hey, how did you get this app on your device, if I have no record of you purchasing/downloading it from the iTunes store?"

  • ITunes Library shared between computers?

    I have an iMac (OSX Lion) with two user accounts that are both sharing the same iTunes Library.  We now have a Macbook Air with the same user accounts.  The Macbook Air obviously does not have the same hard drive space and I therefore did not choose to migrate the library to the Air...What is the best way for each user to access the shared iTunes folder from the iMac?  I would like to do this while on the same LAN as well as remotely if possible.
    I assume that simply setting iTunes up for "Sharing" will handle the local area question, but what about while we are away from home?  I assume that iCloud with iTunes Match would be the only answer?

    Rented movies cannot be shared between computers. They can only exist on a single device at a time, and can only be moved from a computer to a player such as an iPod, iPhone or Apple TV. You cannot move a rental from one computer to another.
    And yes, actually they do say that, in the Rentals FAQ, among other places.
