Session Variable not producing results in answers

Hi,
I have a Session initialization block and I have the variable target assigned to a variable region_info. My SQL is this "select Region from SH.USER_INFO where UPPER(USER_ID)=UPPER(':USER'). It gives me the correct results in RPD.
In answers and in the filter I say Region is equal to/is in NQ_SESSION.Region_info until this point it works great.
How would I modify it to accept multiple rows. I tried the Row-wise initialization and I am getting an error, saying NQ_SESSION.Region_info has no value definition. How can I make it work if the initialization block returns multiple rows and in the answers if I have to pass them both in my filter?

We are about to implement row level security in our BI project using OBIEE, and the solution we found most convenient for our requirement was to use session variables with initalization blocks.
The problem is that this method is listed as a "non best practice" in the Oracle documentation.

How confusing... what is the best practice then?

authenticating / authorizing part is take care by weblogic and then USER variable initialized and you may use it for any initblocks for security.
Init block for authenticating / authorizing and session variables are different, i guess you are mixing both.

Session variable not passing between pages

Hi, I've got a form that calculates checkbox values and puts them in a total field called txtTotal. When the user clicks send, I need to pass the total to a payment page. The form page has PHP

OK I got it. I needed
session_start();
$_SESSION['sessTotal'] = $_POST['txtTotal'];
on the payments page as well, not just session_start();

Session Variables Not Sticking

We are having issue with Session variables sticking from page to page in our Admin area of our website. You can login, but as soon as you click on another link (or anything) they drop.
It's not a code issue because we have the same code on 2 other networks and it works fine. We also have the same code on our backup website on the same network and it works fine. The backup is on a different server in a different location. So that's 3 networks the code is running fine on. It even worked on this network on the main website up until about 9 months ago. I've verified/reverified the code mutiple times. Something must have happened with security patches, some IIS setting, or other server related issue. We are running 2003 Windows Server Edition SP2 and Coldfusion version 8,0,1,195765.
The browsers used are IE7 and IE8. I don't think it's a browser issue because I can open another tab in the same browser and login and stay logged in on the website on another network. We have already gone into browser advanced settings to make sure session variables are allowed. We've also had a couple of other admins look at it from various locations throughout the Country and they also cannot stay logged in on our main site. They can all stay logged in on the backup site.
Frustrating beyond belief. I'm betting it's a Microsoft issue. Anybody out there have a similar issue or know what it might be?

I've experienced a similar problem with CF8 using IE8. I've narrowed it down to being cookie related which causes CF to loose the existing session and create a new session. For me, I can consistently duplicate the issue by having multiple tabs open to various sites and then accessing my site to login -- login is successful but the first page request is treated as unauthorized because the session is empty. If I shutdown and restart the browser and bring up only my site, everything works fine. And once I'm logged in, I have never lost a session by opening other tabs. And this has never failed using Firefox or Safari. What is very strange is that I have multiple sites using CF8 and CF9 and only one exibits this behaviour.

Session variables not clearing

I'm working on a series of web pages that will be compatible with an Apple iPad. Here's what I'm working on:
When a user hits my index.cfm page, CF checks a table for records. If there are no records, cflocation sends the user to a menu page and only creates one session variable, "Device."
If there is one record in the table, cf creates the variables "Device" and "Loc" and sets "Loc" to whatever the value in a certain table field is. Then cflocation sends the user to the same menu page as above, but because "Loc" is defined, the value of "Loc" is output in various places on the page.
If more than one record is found, the user must select their choice from the index.cfm page. From there, cflocation takes their choice, adds it to a url variable, and takes the user to a page that defines "Loc" based on the url variable. Then cflocation sends the user to the same menu page, but because "Loc" is defined, the value of "Loc" is output in various places on the page.
Everything works well.
Here's the problem: I can't get "Loc" to clear on demand. At the top of my index page, I have <cfscript>StructDelete(Session, "Loc");</cfscript> to clear anything that might be in the application. On my desktop (a PC browsing with Chrome), this works. For testing, I'll put one record in the table and the process that I described above works. If I delete that record and run index.cfm again, "Loc" is cleared and the menu page appears as it should.
However, if I add a record, run index.cfm on my iPad to create "Loc," then go back and delete the record from the table and run index.cfm again, the variable is still defined. This happens on the iPad only.
I'm stuck. Can anyone offer any insight?

RH10 - Search not producing results for some users

I am using RH10 and the help system is stored on a sharepoint server (it was output as WebHelp)
All users are able to access the system once we give them access, but when they go to search for topics, some get results and some don't. I believe it's related to java, but I can't find any documentation on what version of java is required for end users?
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled RH (as read in some of the forums) with no changes for the end users.
Are their other outputs that don't require java for searching?
Anything else I can test?
Other information that would be helpful to share?

We installed the patch and did a fresh upload and still have the same problems.
I was finally able to get the error information, but it doesn't seem to help me with troubleshooting. Any other suggestions are certainly welcome.

The "waiting on" referred to in the next comment is the whfbody.thm file
The error was moving so quickly in the bottom left corner that I wasn't able to capture it in full, but it was "waiting on wh... <something>" -- I couldn't ever see what the entire name of the file it was waiting on was. I have limited time with the end users and have not been able to recreate in my environment unfortunately (even though I am using a similar set up as some).
If I search either the whfbody or whfhost in the message board archives, I come up with several instances where people have had similar issues, but there do not appear to be any fixes.
I am able to search whether I have enabled mode checked or unchecked, so I am not sure that works for us either.
Any other suggestions?

Content Query not producing results when using [Me] filter

I'm using a Content Query web part and I'm trying to show the most recent document modified by each site user by applying it across the site collection and using the Filter, Modified By [_Hidden] equals [Me]. However, this doesn't seem to work for any user
- the web part is always blank. I have tried different combinations such changing equals to contains, and using the Modified By field etc - nothing gives me the correct results. If I instead take the [Me] out and instead use the "people chooser"
and set to a specific person then I seem to get the results I would expect - however I cannot hard code a given user.
Does anyone know how to use [Me] correctly?

With the page layout open in Design view, double-click the Content Query Web Part.
In the Content Query Web Part dialog box, click the plus sign (+) next to Query to expand it.
In the Source section, click Show items from all sites in this site collection.
In List Type section, in the Show items from this list type, click Document Library.
In the Content Type section, in the Show items of this content type group list, click Document
Content Types.
In the Content Type section, in the Show items of this content type list, click Document.
In the Additional Filters section, under Show Items When, click Modified By [_Hidden] in

HT2486 search box in AB does not work. Clicking on individual card WILL NOT produce results on opp page of Address book!

AB has suddenly become un-responsive to searches.
Does not show any results, list does not move/change after clicking search.
Even if selecting a contact in book LIST, opp page should show details but
details remain on one contact. Cannot get it to change.
I've repaired permissions, run Disk Warrior, rebooted etc.
Also checked for upgrades (all up to date)
All to no avail.

Google search does not produce results but goes to an 'untitled document' blank page

Computer just automatically updated Firefox and now when I search in google no results are produced when I hit enter or click on search. Instead it just produces a black page with the label 'untitled document'.

Spontaneously fixed itself. Now seems fine - but I didn't do anything to fix it.

Non-system session variable is not initializing

I have created a non-system session variable using Row wise initialization, and using it in answers to filter a column. it is displaying below error
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 23006] The session variable, NQ_SESSION.Visible_All_Offices1, has no value definition. (HY000)
I have tried all possible ways like giving the session variable in SQL result set, giving with quotes and without quotes. In all ways it is throwing the same error.
I think this variable is not getting initialized when starting the session, is there any way to check it. this variable is also not showing in Manage > Sessions > Variables in OBIEE Admin.
Please reply, if anyone faced similar issue. I am trying this from last 2 days.

When you run this sql query against the database, are you seeing results? and why are you using non-system session variables for this? Session variables are usually used to retrieve data into variables based on the user login.
Check the following things:
1) In variable target, make sure the row-wise initialization is checked.
2) Make sure the cache option is UN-checked
3) Run the sql against the database and make sure it is retrieving results.
4) Try this in init block:
select distinct 'Visible_Regions', NVL(Regions, '0') from SH.Regions_Dim A inner join SH.USER_Table B on A.employee_ID = B.employee_ID;

Prompt using SQL Results with row-wise session variable comparison

I have a prompt on Department and I only want the departments to show that have been authorized via a session variable for that user. The session variable can return can return multiple values and is set as row-wise. The session variable is returning results and have been used successfully in an application filter.
I'm trying to put the correct SQL statement and this syntax doesn't work:

Reports containing session variables do not cache

I have a general report that is filtered using information from session variables, for example which teamleader or supervisor the user has to tailor the report.
BUT the problem is that any request with a session variable in it from Answers does not hit the cache.
Actually they do cache but only for that user, not across users. Even when I preload the cache with the report with no filtering, it is not used by subsequent filtered requests.
Question:
- it is possible to get the report to cache when the session variable is used on the Answers side?
- if not does caching happen if used in a WHERE clause in the logical or physical layers
Otherwise, how to do get this to work?

The problem is this. Imagine you have a table say of the number of calls that each user has made and users belong to teams, so you have a table like this:
team, user, # of calls
You also have a session variable containing the team for that user.
What I do is have a where filter that filters the table depending on the session variable against the team, so each user only sees data relevant to their team.
This works OK but there is a caching problem.
If I don't do filtering and just have the report with all the data in it, then that is cached.
If I then run the same report but with the session variable filtering on, then it doesn't hit the cache even though it is a subset of the first request.
If you have 10s of teams each with say 20 reports, then that makes 200 requests whereas really it should just pick up the first super-table that is cached.
I will do more tests but I simply couldn't get it to pick up the cached copy.

Trying to move a list of form variables to session variables of the same name

I am trying to move a list of form variables to session variables of the same name and I am having a lot of trouble.
I have never had to post of this forum with a language question in all the 10 years I have been using ColdFusion. I was a qa Engineer @ Allaire/Macromedia back when it was going from one to the other. I have a pretty good grasp of the language.
I have software that runs off a list. The fieldnames are variable and stored off in an array. It's survey software that runs off a "meta file". In this example; I have the number of fields in the survey set to 12 in the "metafile". I have each field declared in that file in array Session.SurveyField[1] and the above loop works fine. I include this "metafile" at the start of the process.
I cfloop around a struct and it works wherever I have needed to use it; such as here - writing to the database for example;

So I end up having to hardcode it; still looking for an automated way to set these #@%$*@!## session variables over the list from the form variables of the same @#@!$#%$%# name. Do I sound frustrated???
No matter what I do, if I don't HARDCODE like this;

I always get this from my next page because the session variables are empty;

You must answer question 2.
You must answer question 3.
You must answer question 4.
You must answer question 5.
You must answer question 6.
You must answer question 7.
You must answer question 8.
You must answer question 9.
You must answer question 10.
I tried duplicate as well, but I can not get the above to work...
Can anyone help me do this thing that one would think is simple????

I think if you use structure array syntax you should get the results you want.
<cfloop from="1" to="#Session.NumberOfSurveyFields#" index="arrayindex">

Or probably even easier.
<cfset session = duplicate(form)>

Row Level Security - Data filter - Roles Variable Not working in OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1

Hi all,
Previously, we were using OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0 and we were able to assign users to application roles by using the initialization block to assign the ROLES session variables.
1. My USER_SECURITY table in Oracle database:
USER_NAME | USER_ID | ROL
user1       | 1723    | GobalDataRole
user2       | 1739    | GobalDataRole
user3      | 1743    | GobalDataRole
2. The SQL query in my session initialization block:
select USER_NAME, USER_ID, ROL
from USER_SECURITY
where USERNAME = ':USER'
3. The row-wise initialization option is not checked.
4. In the Oracle Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control, we created new application role: GobalDataRole and sync with rpd.
5. The GobalDataRole is used in the RPD to filter the data under permissions --> data filter. GobalDataRole only has access to Country A data.
6. Result: under my account, also in rpd Manage --> Sessions, user variable details
User_name , user_id & Rol variable is working fine as expected,
When we log in as user1, we can see in My Account, user assigned to: BI Consumers; Authenticated Role; GobalDataRole
When we log in as user2, we can see in My Account, user assigned to: BI Consumers; Authenticated Role; GobalDataRole
When we log in as user3, we can see in My Account, user assigned to: BI Consumers; Authenticated Role; GobalDataRole
User1, User2, and User3 are able to see the data correctly according the their data access setup.
Now, we using OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1 and using the same method, but we not able to assign users to application roles by using the initialization block to assign the ROLES session variables anymore.
Result:
User_name & user_id variable is working fine as expected, but the ROl variaible is not capturing the DB value,
When we log in as user1, we can see in My Account, user assigned to: BI Consumers; Authenticated Role
When we log in as user2, we can see in My Account, user assigned to: BI Consumers; Authenticated Role
When we log in as user3, we can see in My Account, user assigned to: BI Consumers; Authenticated Role
User1, User2, and User3 can see all data (which is wrong) because they are not assigned to the correct application role that sets the data restriction/filter.
Has anyone encountered the same issue? Any advice on how to solve this?

- Yes the variable ROLES available in OBIEE 11.1.1.7.1
- Tested the init block and variables in offline rpd its working as expected.
- In online rpd, except ROLES and GROUP variable remaining variables working fine.
- Verified log file in both online and offline init block testing - the init block execution is successful.
