Session Variable - System/non system

anybody explain me about the system and non system variables?
i am very confusing with the documents available in google.
can you please provide me with small example?
in which case we use system variable and which case we use non system variable?

Hi,
System session variables are pre-defined variables which get populated while someone access the system like USER, GROUP,PASSWORD etc. Non-System Session variables can be defined by the user for different purposes.

  • Non-system session variable is not initializing

    Hi,
I have created a non-system session variable using Row wise initialization, and using it in answers to filter a column. it is displaying below error
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 23006] The session variable, NQ_SESSION.Visible_All_Offices1, has no value definition. (HY000)
I have tried all possible ways like giving the session variable in SQL result set, giving with quotes and without quotes. In all ways it is throwing the same error.
I think this variable is not getting initialized when starting the session, is there any way to check it. this variable is also not showing in Manage > Sessions > Variables in OBIEE Admin.
Please reply, if anyone faced similar issue. I am trying this from last 2 days.
    Thanks,
    Ash.

When you run this sql query against the database, are you seeing results? and why are you using non-system session variables for this? Session variables are usually used to retrieve data into variables based on the user login.
    Check the following things:
    1) In variable target, make sure the row-wise initialization is checked.
    2) Make sure the cache option is UN-checked
    3) Run the sql against the database and make sure it is retrieving results.
    4) Try this in init block:
    select distinct 'Visible_Regions', NVL(Regions, '0') from SH.Regions_Dim A inner join SH.USER_Table B on A.employee_ID = B.employee_ID;

  • Using row-wise multi-value GROUP system session variable in report filter

The title says it all except I am using 10g OBIEE.
What I want to do is filter on the dynamic system session variable GROUP created in a row-wise initialization block.
The GROUP vriable is being set up correctly and it shows the user dynamically put into the correct groups in Answers.
(Using the admin tool and looking at the user session, only the initial authentication block variables show up.)
But if I want to filter using the value of GROUP it doesn't work.
The obvious way is to choose the filter icon, then choose Add -> Variable -> Session, enter GROUP, and then display results.
It comes back with no rows.
Any idea how to do this? I've tried lots of things but none of them work either producing no rows or an error.
This is the kind of Answers SQL this report is resulting in, which makes sense to me, but produces no rows.
SELECT "Package Virtual Group (Dim)"."Package Virtual Group" saw_0, "Contact (Fact)"."Contacts All Count" saw_1 FROM "Case/Transaction/ABC" WHERE "Package Virtual Group (Dim)"."Package Virtual Group" = VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION."GROUP") ORDER BY saw_0

Errors come from trying things that don't work.
For example, instead of =, using IN VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.GROUP) or @{session.GROUP} or lots of other things.
    The question is this:
how can I filter a column in Answers using the GROUP session variable which had been initialized in a row-wise initialization block?
I can find no way to do it. Mostly it returns no rows.Hi,
we had a similar requirement, where we have an external name that has project number values. We used row wise initialization to capture all the projects that a user belongs to. Then, we applied the filters at the RPD level, instead of doing it at the report level. From you requirement I see that you are trying to filter the groups based on user login. When a user logs in, he will see the information about the groups that he only belongs to. Correct me if I am wrong here.
Assuming I am right about your requirement, providing the filter that you need apply in RPD.
On all the fact tables are joined to the Package Virtual Group dimension, apply the below filter.
    case when 1=1 then (Dim)"."Package Virtual Group" END = VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION."GROUP");
The reason for use of case statement here is, it converts the logical sql to IN Clause, helping us acheive the exact query that we would want.
Please Award points if this helps.
    Thanks,

    Hi
as far my knowledge, it's not possible...
All system variables are predefined.. if you want to define anything you will have to satisfy with Non-System variable
But curious, why do you want to create session variable there only???

  • System session variable ':GROUP'

    Dear Friends,
I am having an issue with retrieving a value for the reserved system session variable :GROUP IN OBIEE 11.1.1.5
From what I’ve read in the other posts I should be able to use :GROUP variable after where clause, and if there is more than one group assigned to a user INSTR should take care of this case. However I can’t get this to work.
I am using row-wise variable, here is the code
    select 'ORGANIZATIONS' , s.ORGANIZATION_ID
    from T_VZA_SECURITY s
    where
    INSTR(':GROUP', trim(s.group_id)) > 0
    --INSTR('MyGroup', trim(s.group_id)) > 0
I also tried to replace ':GROUP' session variable with 'VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.GROUP)'
    my security table
    create table T_VZA_SECURITY
    (GROUP_ID VARCHAR(20),
    ORGANIZATION_ID VARCHAR (20),
    OWNING_DEPARTMENT_ID VARCHAR (20),
    ASSIGNED_DEPARTMENT_ID VARCHAR (20)
    Thank you

I can't test my statement, it comes back with the error if i specify system session variable. If i replace a group variable with the string it works.
I don't see how i can set the execution order - i only have one init block with row-wise initialization enabled. Basically followed
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2012/03/obiee-11g-security-week-row-level-security/
guide, and it does work for :USER but doesn't for :GROUP.
Thank you for spending time to look at the issue!

  • Override the GROUP system session variable within an initialization block

    Hi,
We're trying to override the GROUP system session variable and having no luck. We've created an initialization block to return the semicolon-separated list we're looking for but when a user logs in, it seems like it is overridden with the default. When we change the name of the variable to something other than GROUP, it works great and we get the expected value. Is there something we're missing with overriding the particular value?
Here is the query we're attempting to use for the variable:
    Select 'GROUP',
       ListAgg(OBI_ROLE, ';') Within Group (Order By USER_EMAIL)
    From CSS_OBI_USER_ROLE
    Where USER_EMAIL In (':USER')
    We also tried:
    Select
       ListAgg(OBI_ROLE, ';') Within Group (Order By USER_EMAIL)
    From CSS_OBI_USER_ROLE
    Where USER_EMAIL In (':USER')
We made sure that the variable name was 'GROUP' as well.
Not sure if it's important to note or not, but the returned values do correspond to existing applications groups already defined within OBI.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • System session variable USER

    Hi,
i have setup-ed the action links and used the USER variable for the EBS secuirty context init block as this
    EBS_RESP_ID
    EBS_RESP_APPL_ID
    EBS_SEC_GROUP_ID
    EBS_RESP_NAME
    EBS_USER_ID
    EBS_EMPLOYEE_ID
    USER
Now for the sso configuration in the RPD i need to use the USER variable again as per the document (section A.1.1 )http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/e10543/legacy.htm#BABFJEJF
    "To set up LDAP authentication:

Select Manage then Identity in the Oracle BI Administration Tool to launch the Security Manager.
Select Directory Servers from the left pane in Security Manager.
Right-click in the right pane in Security Manager and select New LDAP Server. The LDAP Server dialog is displayed.
Create the LDAP server by completing the fields.
Create an LDAP initialization block and associate it with an LDAP server. For more information. see "Creating Initialization Blocks" in Oracle Fusion Middleware Metadata Repository Builder's Guide for Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition.
Define a system variable named *USER* and map the USER variable to an LDAP attribute (uid or sAMAccountName)."
So how can i use the same user variable and assign it to LDAP init block as well the EBS security context init block.

  • How to make a BW system non-modifiable?

    Hello,
How do i do that? Also what if i have to keep only the infopackages open for creation?
    Regards,
    aby

    Hello Abhijit
To make a SAP BW system non-modifiable you have to do at least the following:
    1. TCODE SCC4 --> double-click on your client --> Changes and transports for Client-specific Objects should be set to “No changes allowed”.
    2. TCODE SE06 --> click on System change option (you have to have the necessary authorization, or else you can not see the button at top) --> Set the global settings to non-modifiable (Be careful here: <b>a.</b> Software Component <i>"LOCAL"</i> has to have the status modifiable – read more about it in the section about transports on help.sap.com. <b>b.</b> I will suggest that you take a snap shot of your settings before changing them to non-modifiable.)
    3. Regarding your question about InfoPackages I will suggest that you watch Luis Orama's e-learning session about BW transports on this site. But a quick answer to your question is that this is possible.
TCODE RSOR (Transport Connections) --> Click on "Object Changeability".
    Good luck

  • @variable and Operating system variables (Windows environment variables)

    Hi,
Has anyone experience with using @variable and Operating system variables (Windows environment variables)in XI 3.x Web Intelligence ?
Help gives the example of @Variable(NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS). Even with syntax correction @Variable('NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS') it does not seem to work.
It works fine for Desktop Intelligence. Environment variables added are read, after restarting DeskI. If already in an existing DeskI session, newly added (unknown) variable names give a prompt with the variable as prompt text as a result. This is the behavior in Web Intelligence, even for environment variables that are always set (like Path, TMP, ...)
Both WebI Rich Client and WebI via Infoview in XI 3.1 and XI 3.1 SP2 show this behavior (prompt instead of @variable behavior)
Are there settings that need to be made? other syntax ?
Is this a DeskI only feature ?
    Thanks!
    Raf

    Hi Abdellatif,
    Ok, that would clarify things.
You have an idea if this is documented somewhere?
Reason we ask:the "xi3-1_designer_en" guide, the specification for the @variable function states:
    "BusinessObjects system variables. ...
    Report variables. ...
Operating system variables. You can enter Windows environment variables in order to obtain information about your installation.
Custom variables. With Desktop Intelligence, you can use a predefined text file to provide a list of fixed variable values."
There's no explicit referal to DeskI only for OS system variables, like there is for custom variables.
    Thanks!

  • "Program terminated in remote system NONE: Logon failed" when adding a new table

    Hello,
I set up a replication flow from a SAP ERP 6.0 EHP7 with SAP ASE 16.0 source to SAP HANA 1.0 rev 82 target
I am using a standalone SLT system NetWeaver 7.0 with DMIS 2011_1_731 (with SP 1 to 7).
I have 100 tables to replicate.
I succeeded to set up replication for 57 tables. These tables are replicating properly.
Whenever I try to add a new one (with LTRC transaction, Data Provisioning -> Start Replication), the new table is marked as 'Failed' after a little while.
When I press 'Show Error Log' button I got an obscure error message:
"Program terminated in remote system NONE: Logon failed "
I do not understand this message. I checked both on SAP ASE source and SAP HANA target. I am still able to connect against both source and target.
Can you please tell how to troubleshoot this error.
    Thanks in advance,
    Christian

First thank you for answering my questions. I really appreciate your answers.
    I rechecked the documentation.
"Application Operations Guide SAP Landscape Transformation Replication Server Document Version: 2.3 – 2014-07-08"
    Page 29 - 30
    3.5.2.2 Data Transfer Jobs
This section explains the relationship between the number of data transfer jobs and the number of available background work process.
Data transfer and data transformation processing on SLT server system is accomplished by the background work processes of the underlying SAP NetWeaver ABAP application server. Each job occupies 1 background work process in the SAP LT Replication Server system. For each configuration, the parameter Data Transfer Jobs restricts the maximum number of data load job for each mass transfer ID (MT_ID). In total, a mass transfer ID (MT_ID) requires at least 4 background jobs to be available:
 One monitoring job (master job)
     One master controller job
 At least one data load job
 One additional job either for the migration objects definition, access plan calculation or to change configuration settings in the Configuration & Monitoring Dashboard
    Example
If you set the parameter Data Transfer Jobs to 04 in a configuration “SCHEMA1”, a mass transfer ID 001 is assigned. As a result, the following jobs should be in the system:
    1 Master controller job: /1LT/IUC_REP_CNTR_001
     At most 4 parallel jobs for MT_ID 001: /1LT/IUC_LOAD_MT_001_001/~002/~003/~004
When configuring your data load or replication scenario, consider the following:
 Do not define more data transfer jobs than the number of available application server background work processes. If all available background work processes are already occupied by jobs, any other job will have to wait until a free work process becomes available. This can lead to long wait times until a new activity (for example creating triggers) can start, and can also result in significantly increased latency times for data replication.
 The number of dialog work processes in the source system corresponds 1:1 with the number of data transfer jobs in the SAP LT Replication Server system.
 Besides the work processes allocated by the data transfer jobs you need to provide additional available work processes for controller and monitoring jobs, the migration objects definition, access plan calculation or to perform configuration changes, and so on.
Sizing for SAP LT Replication Server involves determining how many work processes are required to perform the initial load of data into the target system within an acceptable timeframe, and accomplish the change capturing and the transfer of data changes to the target system within expected latency times.
Ensure that you add enough additional work processes to allow other required SAP LT Replication Server jobs to run.
Finally, you map the number of required application server work processes to their system resource consumption (CPU, memory, disc space) using the formulas provided by the SLT Sizing Guide.
With the simple formula below, you can calculate the number of required application server work processes (WPs) on the SLT Server for each active SLT configuration.
The number of required work processes can be determined by adding
 The Number of required data transfer jobs ,
 plus one background work process for Central Master (Monitoring) Job (only one per system!),
 plus one background work process for Master Controller Job,
 plus 3-5 additional empty background work processes (recommended per configuration),
 plus approx. 3 dialog work processes (recommended for each configuration).
Note: A lack of available free application server work processes can negatively affect the data load or data replication processes.
To summarize everything, the number of 'Data Transfer Jobs' must be set depending of the number of source tables, it is not the actual number of tables.
Assume that for my 100 tables I use 10 'Data Transfer Jobs' :
    - The number of work processes on the SLT server would be 20. I took the simple formula of the documentation:
    10 data transfer jobs ,
+ 1 background work process for Central Master (Monitoring) Job (only one per system!),
+ 1 background work process for Master Controller Job,
+ 5 additional empty background work processes (recommended per configuration),
+ 3 dialog work processes (recommended for each configuration).
    - The number of dialog processes on the source server would be 10 ( equal to the number of 'Data Transfer Jobs')
    Am I correct ?
    Regards,
    Christian

  • How can I get "all my files" to recognize files in a non system drive?

I use a Mac Pro with four internal drives, OSX 9.2. My system drive is an SSD so I keep user files on another drive in an adjacent bay.
Files in my non-system disc are not displayed in the "all my files" finder view. If I copy a file from the system disc to my user disc, the copy is not recognized, and when I trash the original, of course, there is no reference to either. If I search, spotlight finds it. This behavior seems to apply to all files and is regardless of anything selected in the sidebar before "all my files". I have not marked any files, folders or drives as private. I presume I must have a set a pref wrong. I would really appreciate any advice.
    Thank you.

To change the program that .indd files default to when opened in OSX, right click on the .indd file > Open With > Other.
Then navigate to the version of InDesign that you want to open them with (I have CS6 installed but its the same for CS5). Make sure you have "Always Open With" selected.

  • How to Delete Non-System State Backups in Windows 2008R2

    Hello,
I am running a Windows 2008R2 server which uses Windows Server Backup to do the backups. We are using the backup-tool to create non-system state backups of the data-directories on this machine. The backup is done on a dedicated disk connected through iscsi
(to a Synology box). This backup disk has become too small and we have now replaced the Synology box with a bigger one. Here i created a new LUN again for the backup purposes.
Now for my question; The wbadmin.exe tool supplied with W2008R2 does not offer a way to delete the old backups. I know that in Win2012 (which we we also have running) I could add the new iscsi location and then (when enough backups are available on the new
target) use wbadmin.exe delete backup  to delete the old non-system state backups; e.g.
     wbadmin delete backup -version:08/07/2013-21:00
This (very undocumented) feature of Windows 2012 and higher works quite nice and is exactly what i am searching for on the W2008R2 machine; a way to delete the old backups (and under the hood delete the corresponding snapshots)
I've done quite a bit of research and it should be possible to do something similar in 2008 but then manually, The howto is described in the following link: http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2009/06/22/backup-version-and-space-management-in-windows-server-backup.aspx .
Basically it describes that you should use DiskShadow.exe to remove e.g. the oldest snapshot with a  command like :
    Delete shadows OLDEST \\?\Volume{7fc1871b-2e1f-11dd-a339-001e4fb7af35}
Windows Server backup (wbadmin) should then on the next run 'see' this deletion and update its list of available backups:
"You can perform the same steps manually to delete backups on demand. However, the backup catalog update cannot be done manually and it will happen instead during
    the next backup."
I've done this on our box and it indeed removes the shadows from the list. However, in the Windows Backup 'dashboard' it still lists the backups as available. Also after a new backup has finished (according the the article this is when it should 'update'
    its backup catalog). When I try to restore a backup from a date that i just removed it gives a nice message that this is impossible because the snapshot is not available (duh :)) ;
Unable to browse Local disk. The shadow copy of the backup stored on the backup destination cannot be found.
So it seems that the aforementioned method works; it removes the snapshot and frees diskspace, but it doesn't update the Windows Backup catalog. As a result the management tool (GUI) still lists the backups which are no longer available! How can i change
this? Is there any way to do this? I found one article which mentions that the Dashboard bases its screen on the Windows Logs and not on the actual VSS snapshots available:
http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php/topic/23757-start-afresh-with-server-backup/ (WHS) In my situation however this seems unlikely because i don't have any logs that date back as far as my backups go.
In my opinion this is a real bug and it leaves us with a in-consequent backup schema. Does anyone have similar situations or even a solution to my problem?
    Kind Regard, Martin

    Hi Mandy,
Yes! I think i got my answer and I now get how windows backup works in Windows 2008 :-) It turns out that I dismissed some suggestions a bit too soon. The answer lies in the command mentioned earlier :
    Wbadmin delete catalog
This command does delete all the backups from a perspective of the Windows Backup UI, but leaves the VSS snapshots intact. This means that the backups are still available, but you just can't restore them with the User Interface. In order to 'update' the
UI with the current available snapshots (which you can list with diskshadows list shadows all), you have to re-add the existing media on which the backups took place using the Wizard of the UI. It will then inform you that existing backups are available and
if you want to keep these for restore purposes. If you click 'yes', and THEN perform a backup ... All the current available backups will be shown in the User Interface :-)
So for my steps taken to change from one iscsi (iscsi1) to another (iscsi2):
    - Add the 2nd iscsi target with the Windows Backup UI
using Backup schedule , Modify backup -> [desired options] => Add more backup destinations -> iscsi2
    - Remove the 1st iscsi target with the Windows Backup UI
using Backup schedule , Modify backup -> [desired options] => Remove current backup destinations -> iscsi1
    - Run some backups on the new destination. Old restore points are now still available. When enough restore points are available on the new volume iscsi2 start deleting old data from iscsi1 as follows:
    - Run diskshadow
    diskshadow
    - list all the current snapshots
    list shadows all
    - remove all the snapshots of iscsi1  (repeat until all shadows are gone of iscsi1)
    delete shadows oldest \\?\volume{yourvolumeid}\
    - delete the windows backup catalog
    wbadmin delete catalog
    - Restart the windows backup UI and re-add your schedule on the new volume iscsi2. It will now ask if you want the keep the existing data for restore purposes; click yes.
    - After the next backup only the backups of volume iscsi2 will be listed and everything is fine !
I Hope my post will help others with similar questions. It was quite a search before I understood the way it works. Basically as long as your VSS snapshots are still available and listed by diskshadow you still have the backups and you will be able to get
this in sync with the steps above (delete schedule and re-add originating targets containing the snapshots). After the next backup the UI will update itself.
(In my case someway along the way I lost my originating snapshots, but because I already had my new backup set it didn't bother me; It kept me from having to delete all 510 old backups :) with diskshadow)
    Regard, Martin

  • Kernel_data_inpage_error & non-system disk error but everything running OK for a while

    Hi,
can someone please help me out since I have a deadline in coming up and need my laptop to work properly!
I have windows 7 64bit running on a HP ProBook 6550b. My PC runs fine for about an hour, after an hour the screen freezes for 10 seconds and then I get the KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. He reboots and then I get the message 'Non-system disk or disk error'
Then I just shut down my PC and start it back up and everything works perfectly fine again for about 45 minutes. Then again the same problem.
I have tried multiple things. I executed a chkdsk /f /r  This did find some problems. I tried and followed some instructions about changing the paging file settings. I ran a memtest. No errors with the memtest.
Finally I went in the BIOS and I did a HP harddrive test. This one failed almost immediately but I can just close the BIOS and start my PC and windows runs fine.
What can I do to resolve this problem other then buying a new harddrive. (I intend to buy a new laptop anyways in couple of months after I have passed my deadline and test period has finished. But for short term I really needs this to work.)
    Many thanks!!

The problem was due to my SSD M4 hard drive. There was a problem with the firmware causing hourly crashes after the disk has been in use for more then +-5200 hours. Upgrading the firmware fixed this for me.
