Set client var using javascript

i have a form where a user enters a line of info, and i want
to save that as a client variable without having to post the form.
is it possible to set a CF client variable using javascript?

You've inched away from your original question. It was about
how to use Javascript to save form data in Coldfusion without
having to send the form from the browser. The answer is, you can't.

You've not changed any Coldfusion variable at all. What
you've simply done is use Javascript to write a new cookie, which
Coldfusion then reads later. To see that, do this test.
Save and run the following code as the page

You will find that the "CF cookie" is dumped. The difference
in the result of the two tests shows that one cannot use Javascript
to change the cookie that Coldfusion sets. In fact, generally
speaking, you cannot use Javascript to modify any Coldfusion
variables. If you could, anyone would be able to use an HTML page
to rewrite your Coldfusion site.

Example of setting page item using javascript

Does anyone have an example of setting the value of a page item (hidden) using javascript? I have seen the following in the Forum but I am having trouble implementing it. If someone could show an example of a region it is called from, and the javascript (and where it is placed), that would be great.

you should really use a "Set Value" dynamic action for that, that's much more transparent than using the onclick definition in the button attributes.

I have list library with 2 columns. where as 1 column is people picker control and it is not mandatory filed .
When the user open newform.aspx and fill all the column values and submit it should show error message if user not enter any data in people picker control column though it is not a mandatory column.

JavaScript runs on the Client. ColdFusion runs on the server. They do not talk to each other or share memory.
The only way to get data from the client to the server is to make a request. The only way to get data from the server to the client is to respond to a request.
You can make that request by submitting a form either in the get or post scope.
You can make that request by sumitting a request with the xmlHTTPrequest() function, commonly called AJAX.
But somehow or the other you have to make a request.

This is not the best way to write JavaScript in Portal environment!
You can't be sure that a form is the first in the html source!
In Portal you change the order of your portlets, and also you can have several instances of the same portlet on the same page!!!
You should use qualified form and field names!

Also, I tried removing SP.SOD.executeFunc
from my code, but no success :(

CAML Query to get specific item in folder based on dropdown value using Javascript client object model

I am using the Javascript Client object model.
I have a custom list and a custom document library.
Custom list contains 2 columns - dlName , dlValue
The document library contains 2 folders - "folder1" , "folder2" and contains some images.
The image name starts with the "dlValue" available in the custom list
I am using a visual webpart and using javascript client object model.
I am trying to achieve the below functionality:
1) Load a dropdown with the custom list.
2) set the image based on the value in dropdown.
I have achieved the first option, I have set the dropdown, but not sure how to query the folder and set the image.
Below is the code i have used so far:

Add multiple people using Javascript Client Object Model

I am trying to add multiple people to a SP column of type Person/Group i.e. people picker. I am able
to add one successfully using their userId, but HAVE no clue how to do that for multiple people. Here is the code for one user:
