Set DNS to automatic across multiple NIC's

I have a client with 100(ish) computers. Whoever their IT firm was before us has manually set DNS on most of these computers. I would like to set all NICs on all computers to dynamic, and pull the DNS server address from DHCP server. The problem is I can't
use netsh because it would require the network adapter name. There are multiple NICs on the computers, some are named Ethernet, some are named Local Area Connection, ect.
Is there a way to script this with powershell? I know I can use
Set-DnsClientServerAddress –InterfaceIndex ? -ResetServerAddressesbut I need the interface index, which will be different across various computers. Can I pipe the output of get-netadapter (which shows if index) and input all of them?Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

If you define the DNS servers in DHCP the clients will use it.
With PowerShell you can set the client to use DHCP.  look in Gallery for numerous scripts that will do this.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thank you JRV for the prompt response! I have a script that forces all adapters to use DHCP, which does change them from static to DHCP, but this does not change the DNS servers. I was able to get the DNS servers reset to automatic by using
Get-NetAdapter | Set-DnsClientServerAddress -ResetServerAddresses
thanks to Jordan Mills in the Powershell forum. Also, thank you for the script, but most clients here are Windows 7, but I did not specify. Thanks again for the help!

  • Can ARD fetch reports automatically across multiple partitions, without being in a particular partition?

I'm trying to run reports across multiple client computers that have data on 2-3 partitions per Mac.  Is there anyway ARD can report to me data across partitions and not just the current partition the Mac is on?  What I have to do now is restart into every partition and get ARD data off, too time consuming.
Also, where does ARD store it's reporting data?

Partitions are... old school. And it will interfere with Startup Disk, with OS X.
You could have used Windows 7 entirely and no sign of OS X (which can be installed and booted from external drives).
I like to use multiple hard drives: boot drive for system, another drive for data, and also backup, scratch etc.
If you use Windows 7 system image backup you should be able to restore any system in reasonable time and manner.

  • How to set hierachy to drill across multiple dimensions?

    Hello
    I have a situation:
There are 3 tables: Credit Manager Dim, Customer Dim and Sales Fact
There are 3 columns: Credit Manager ID, Customer ID and Document Number (from sales fact).
The request is to create a hierachy so that the report can drill from credit manager to Customers (for that credit manager) and then to all the document numbers for that customer.
I think I will need to create one hierachy that uses these 3 columns in each of the level. However, the challenge now is that one dimensional hierachy can only accept columns from one dimension tables.
    Please advice
    Thank you

    Thanks for the reply Dbettinger.
For now I am ignoring document number part for testing purpose. In my credit manager dim, the lowest level is detail level where credit manager code is assigned under (Credit Manager Code is key enabled for drill-down). I have set the 'prefer drill path' of this level to point to Customer Dim- Detail level (where customer ID is assigned) as you suggested.
However, when I tried running the reports, the credit manager code column is still not drillable. I think it is because this column is already at the lowest level of credit manager dim hierarchy and BI server doesn't take the preferred path of deeper level (customer dim)..
This is where I am stuck.
Any idea on how to make it work?
    Thanks

  • I want to set up a home network to be able to watch my movies and litsen to music across multiple platforms without keeping my laptop connected.

I want to set up a home network to be able to watch my movies and litsen to music across multiple platforms.  I have movies purchased from itunes as well as movies from my DVD collection that i converted to an .m4v format.  I currently have these movies stored on an external harddrive. To watch a movie on my apple tv I have to ensure my external hard drive is connected to my macbook pro, then play the movie on my macbook pro and "mirror" it to my apple tv.
Ideally I would like to be able to watch movies from my collection without having to have my laptop on and work from that.  Is it possible to navigate my collection from my Apple TV and play it on my Apple TV.  My macbook pro is the machine I primarily use for work and school it is quite the protological nuissance to have to hook all that up everytime I want to watch a movie.
My thoughts are that I could take my old dekstop pc, attach an external hard drive to that and make that my "media storage".  If I were to do that would I then be able to watch movies as well as select which movie I want to watch from my library through my apple TV without my macbook pro being in the equation?  Or if I should desire to watch a movie from my library through my Macbook Pro, Iphone 4s, and ipad is that possible?  I basically want to set up my library to be accessible from any of my devices.
My devices are; the previously mentioned Apple Tv, macbook pro, iphone 4s, ipad 3. I also have a desktop PC running windows 7, xbox 360 and playstation 3 (the xbox and PS3 would be nice if they could too but wouldnt break my heart as they are my roommate's and not mine so I rarely use them.)
Thank you for any help/advice you guys may have!

atv's can only access media from
    1. a computer which is turned on running itunes
    2. the internet
    no other options
and NAS's which say they can work as itunes libs don't work

  • Newbie question about setting up iTunes to sync across multiple computers

    Hi,
Right now I am using iTunes primarily for listening to streaming radio. However in about 2-3 weeks after I move, I am considering importing all my CDs into iTunes.
So my question is this. What can I do before I start that will make my life easier for syncing my iTunes across multiple computers.
I don't expect the computers to connect to each via internet but I do have a 4 GB flash disk and 230 GB firewire drive that could be used. And since one of the computers is MacBook Pro, I could use it in target mode I think.
    Thanks.

Authorization only applies to computers. When you update a device any protected content on the device for which the library is not authorised will be removed. Otherwise no attempt is made to remove content that was added by a now deauthorised library.
There is a separate scheme permitting up to 10 devices (computers, iPhones, iPad or iPod touches) to be registered for automatic downloads of your purchases with a different mechanism for deregistering devices.
Once you have a file on your computer you can physically copy it to any other computer in the same way that you would copy any other file like a Word document, put it on a disk, email it if not too large, burn it to DVD, stick it on an external hard drive or move it over a network. You can use Get Info. To tell you where it is now and you can drop it into the library at the other end.
The user tip shows how to backup the whole library and then update that backup efficiently. Such a backup to a portable drive also provides a possible tool for transporting any content to another computer.

  • Can Windows Server Backup spread a single backup job across multiple disks if they are not set up as a virtual disk?

This may be a dumb question, but I can't seem to find any definitive information after having done many, many searches.  Short question is - can Windows Server Backup spread a single backup job across multiple disks if they are not in a storage
pool or some other RAID/JBOD structure?
    Background:
I'm running Server 2012 Essentials with all Windows Updates installed.  I have been backing up approx 2.8TB of data (Bare Metal Recovery, C:, S: (shared folders), and system reserved) for the past year+ onto a storage pool made up of two-2TB external
USB drives.  Backup is slow (takes approx 1.5 days to complete), but generally works.  Not surprisingly I was constantly getting capacity low messages so I decided to increase my backup storage pool by adding a 3TB drive and another spare 750GB drive
for a total of 7.75TB.  Instead of having four separate external USB enclosures, I bot a 4-bay enclosure - Startech.com model #S3540BU33E to simplify this (or so I thought!).
The first problem I had was adding the two new drives to the existing storage pool. I think that is because the Startech uses a JMicron USB controller that reports identical uniqueid's for all drives so only one shows up in the GUI interface for creating storage
pools. After doing research on this, I set up a new storage pool and virtual disk using all four drives via Powershell and thought I was good. However, when the backup ran, it failed after filling the first drive, saying there was no remaining capacity. In
reality there were three remaining empty drives and there storage pool reported almost 5TB of avail capacity. I assumed this was due to the identical uniqueid issue so I decided to try a different tactic.
Instead of using a storage pool that combines all four disks into one virtual disk, I just added each of them to Windows Server Backup as individual drives thinking it would manage them collectively. I.e., when a drive filled up during a particular backup,
it would just start using the next drive and so on. Apparently this was a foolish assumption because the backup failed again as soon as the first disk filled up.
So now I don't know if this is still an issue with the identical uniqueid's or if Server Backup actually can't spread a single backup across multiple individual drives that aren't in a pool or other virtual disk implementation. Hence, my original question.
My guess is that it does *not* spread them across individual disks, but I just wanted to get confirmation.
    Thanks

    Mandy,
Thank you for following up on my question.
Unfortunately the article you referenced doesn't address what I am trying to accomplish.
The article focuses on saving the same backup job to multiple disks and rotating the disks between on and offsite for enhanced protection.  However, it still requires that an individual backup job fits on a single disk.
What I am trying to determine is if a single backup job can span across more than one physical disk (during the backup process) without those physical disks being in some type of virtual disk implementation (e.g., storage pool, RAID, etc.).
    Thanks,
    Gerry

  • Matching across multiple character sets

Would like to know whether anyone has attempted matching across multiple character sets, for example, between English and Japanese: what are the pitfalls to avoid, what are the best practices, and what you would like to see from application/tools perspective as an ideal solution. thanks

If you upgrade to Logic Pro, you'll get WaveBurner as part of the package which helps you do this, including tweaking your pauses between tracks, fades etc.
If you have Toast, you can do it there too.
If you don't have any 3rd. party software, the work around would be to assemble all your songs in order, end to end in a new Logic file, and listen to all your tracks and adjust the relative levels between songs, then bounce out the individual tracks which have volume changes with their new volume settings. Finally you could then use any burning app such as [SimplyBurns|http://bit.ly/c1oglP] to create CDs or bounce them out in Logic with the additional .mp3 option.
Obviously it's important to listen to your material in order, in context, as some songs will be at the wrong subjective level depending on the tracks either side in the placement. This isn't really important in digital distribution where your material probably won't be listened to as a whole, but as individual downloads.

  • Single result set across multiple tables

Hi - what's the best way to perform a single query that can pull
a single result set across multiple tables, ie., a master table
containing subject details and child table containing multiple
    records with detail.
I know how to do this for two columns in the same table via
indexing, but how about across tables?
    Cheers,

I am not sure if I understood your question, but you can use
Intermedia Text with USER_DATA_STORE to create an index with data

how to delete forecast entries with zero current and original qty from a particular forecast set which span across multiple forecasts

    Hi,
There is no way to delete those records selectively from front end.
The best possible way is to delete the records from MRP_FORECAST_DATES tables from backend.
    Hope that helps!!

  • Creating multiple vlans across multiple switches

    Hi All,
How should I create multiple vlans across multiple switches?
For instance, I have two (primary/redudant) layer 3 (core) switches and four layer 2 access switches (Cisco 2960) for the hosts, and given these are the vlans/subnets to be created. Should I do it in the core switches only and it would just propagate through the access via VTP?  Just trying to practice and learn.. Any help will be greatly appreciated:)
    VLAN 100: [DHCP-workstations]
    172.26.4.0/24
    172.26.5.0/24
    VLAN 200: [Servers]
    172.16.1.0/24
    172.16.2.0/24
    VLAN 300: [Printers]
    192.168.129.0/24
    192.168.130.0/24
    VLAN 800: [Management for switches/routers]
    10.160.1.0/24

    Hi
You will have the SVI on the core. Set a VTP domain, make one of the cores as VTP server and rest of the switches as VTP clients. Once you do this, you won't have to login into each switch and create a vlan locally. The vlans will be automatically advertised from the VTP server to all the VTP clients.
    Thanks

  • Search across multiple libraries

Does Version 1.0 permit searches across multiple Lightroom libraries?

I've been playing around with V1 this afternoon with respect to keywords and metadata. I've been working with jpg files and writing the metadata back to the file automatically via the preference setting. When I run a spotlight search none of the new metadata shows up. I have confirmed that the keywords and metadata are present in the jpg file by using Bridge. If I then add a keyword using Bridge all of the keywords that I had attached in Lightroom are visible to finder and spotlight searches.

  • Can we share one single RDBMS security store across multiple domains ?

Can we share one single RDBMS security store across multiple weblogic domains? The idea is to utilize the same set of users and group defined in Weblogic Security Realms across multiple weblogic domains. Is it possible ? are there any risk ?
i am using Oracle WebLogicServer11gR1 (10.3.6) Generic with Coherence.

    Hi,
The document which you are referring is for WLS 10.0 and RDBMS security is introduced from WLS 10.3.0 onwards.
The reason why RDBMS security store should not be stored between two domains is RDBMS security store is used by authorization, role mapping, credential mapping, and certificate registry providers.
Once the RDBMS security store is configured in a domain, an instance of any of the preceding security providers that has been created in the security realm automatically uses only the RDBMS security store as a datastore, and not the embedded LDAP server.
It is just the replacement for Embedded LDAP.

  • Numbers vs. iCloud across multiple devices?

I'm confused.  I am a long time mobile me user and I consider my self a mac poweruser.  I just made the switch to iCloud and my main purpose was to use Numbers across multiple devices.  I have a MacPro, iPhone 4 and iPad 2, all running the lastest versions of iOS, Lion, and Numbers.  I understand that the Mac version can't sync seamlessly like iCal or Contacts.  I have to upload and download files with changes to work on them on the Mac.  However, I can't see any of the files on my iOS devices or in my iWork page on my iCloud.  If I make a file or make a change to a file in Numbers on an iOS device, shouldn't it upload that file to the cloud automatically?  Shouldn't the iOS devices "see" the newly uploaded changes from my Mac?  I got it to work once as a test right before Thanksgiving, but since then, nothing.  I've made sure all the correct settings are turned on, however, still no communication to the iCloud.
Am I expecting too much?  I'd really like to buy a MacBook Air to use Numbers at work, however, I can't justify the cost if none of these devices will talk to each other.  What I really need is for my iPhone or iPad to have up to the minute versions of my Numbers files which will be mainly edited on a laptop or desktop.  Any suggestions.  Thanks.

Your understanding of how iWork document syncing works is correct.
Have you enabled document syncing on each of your iOS devices. (settings > iCloud, and setting > pages > iCloud etc etc)
If you still can't get it all syncing try turning off syncing on all your devices and then turning it on all of them again. (you might ant to save any documents already on your iOS devices to iTunes for safety before turning syncing off)

  • MDNS/Bonjour switchs randomly between multiple NICs

    Dear Community,
I have a problem with a MacServer and multiple NICs...lets name it MSERV
NIC1 goes into the WWW (194.x.x.x) (Protected with ASA firewall)
NIC2 goes into LAN (172.x.x.x) (no firewall)
I need the WWW NIC for ProfileManager and also the LAN NIC for filesharing and TMB.
Both IPs are reachable from our LAN. DNS is good (nslookup shows up as expected) but mDNS/Bonjour makes some problems:
If I do ping MSERV.local sometimes it resolves the 194 and sometimes the 172 address.
This is a big problem for our time machine server backups! When clients choose the 194-path when they discover their backup target on the server, we generate a HUGE load on our ASA firewall.
How can I force Bonjour only to use the 172er LAN NIC.
Or did I get something dramatically wrong?
    Any suggestions?

    Tearjerker wrote:
    Thank you for your reply!
So you mean to disable Bonjour on the server and set up DNS name as TM target?
Problem is here: How can I do this? Only way I know to connect to my backup server on clients is
System Prefs. -> TM -> Choose Disk. And as far as I know is this a Bonjour connection, right?
When I disable Bonjour service on the server (already tried!) my clients are unable to connect to their target.
    Any thoughts?
You should not need to disable Bonjour. Bonjour aka. mDNS uses the .local domain suffix if you use a hostname like MSERV.local it will use Bonjour to try and find the TCP/IP address. (We will ignore the possibility someone might use the .local domain in an Active Directory setup.)
If your using a full-blown DNS e.g. server.domain.com then this is nothing to do with Bonjour and where it will point to is up to your DNS server. In this case you would point it to the 172.x.x.x IP address of the server.
As you want the same server to be contactable via the WAN interface as well for the rest of the work to access what you will want to do is have a 'split-horizon' DNS setup. With this the internal machines use an internal DNS server which points to the internal IP address of the server. You will also have the same domain hosted externally and the same server name but pointing to the external WAN IP address. What you do then have to be careful about is to ensure that all the external host names in that domain are defined also on the internal DNS server even if they are servers hosted externally. For example if you have a www.domain.com server hosted externally so it only has an external (public) IP address then you will still need to define this on your internal DNS server so your internal machines know where to find it, since your internal machines will be using your internal DNS server. If you fail to do this then while the outside world using an external DNS server may be able to access your www server, your internal machines would not be able to because your internal DNS server would otherwise say it does not exist.
