Set free style internet address through API

Question

Is there a way to set the groupwise property Preferred internet address
through an API.
We like to automate the setting through an interface for every GW user.
Now we use <[email protected]> We will give our staff and students the
posibility to use something like [email protected]

I think the only 'active' interface for doing this, is via Novell's
DirXML / Identify manager product.
